My girlfriend had the combo beef, and I really didn't hear any chewing, but she was definitely morning a lot. We barely said a word to one another while feasting, but we did share a small bite of each other's food. the staff were professional, quick and efficient. I come here pretty often since I live close to it. I think it's a very solid Chi street food joint. They even have Merkts cheddar, which is a total win in my book. It was late and we were hungry. I was shocked to find a real veggie burger on their menu! It was actually delicious!! The food is reasonably priced and tasty. They also have their own drinks you can try they remind me of kool aid. 1.25 for a side of cheese I thought was high but hey I was in Chicago so I went for it. Fortunately, The Hat was walking distance from the bar I had exited out of with its bright neon sign shining like a beacon of drunk food hope. The menu was quite overwhelming, not because I was tipsy, but because there were so many good Chicago street food staples, it was hard to choose what I wanted. When I saw that the hot dogs were grilled instead of boiled, I knew there was no turning back. I ordered Polish ($6.99), which comes with free fries (I switched to garlic $0.50 extra) and the can sprite (written $1.85). She charged me $11.49+tax. I went and asked her nicely that there was a mistake with the order made. She replied that it was a combo. She basically charged me for the fries because I ordered drinks. I tried explain, she just kept saying that it is the combo, so she charged me $10.99. She even said the can pop is $2.17 when it is clearly written $1.85. I did not want to keep arguing so I said never mind and she replied "Then why are you keep talking?" First time at The Hat Chicago and I must say I am throughly impressed. We ordered a number four which is a cheeseburger and fries, and a number twelve which is chicken wings and fries. We substituted the fountain drinks for shakes. One peanut butter and banana and one strawberry and cherry. And cheese for both fries. The first thing I tasted was the shake! It had fresh bananas which made it so delicious. My fiance says his shake was great too! The burger was nice and juicy, with a nice and soft brioche bun. The chicken wings were perfectly crispy with a nice zesty kick. The best part of it all by far was the cheese fries. I've come across a lot of restaurants that weren't salting their fries, along with that nasty store bought cheese sauces. But at The Hat Chicago the fries were crispy, salted and delicious.
