One star. Yep, I went there. First of all, whether purposeful or not, the fact that the place looks -exactly- like an In N' Out sets you up for a major disappointment. Then there's the wall, covered with interviews with big blaring quotations like "Focus on the Food," "Burgers are good again," and "Fries that don't taste like grease." Bzzzt, bzzzzt, and bzzzzzzt. Ok, definitely not the best burger place obviously. Really hard to win that dubious honor as a chain and all. Trying to convince anyone of the best burger place is also next to impossible as well because everyone has a different take on what a perfect burger is. But you know what five guys does best is allow you to customize your burger, to make it exactly the way you would want to eat it. And to be honest, isn't that the best way to make a burger that each individual can love? I think if you come here without the expectation of the best burger in the world mentality, you'll actually find a meal you'll enjoy. It's easy to tell if a place is good or not when you find yourself craving it, and with Five Guys, I find myself craving it from time to time. So that's 4 stars in my book. P.S. Well... I like to say it's not often I eat fast food, but at 38 years old i just started eating hamburgers & I was dying for a good cheap burger the other night. I heard good things about 5 guys so I grabbed my 14 year old son & my 72 year father and dragged them both out for a burger... My dad kept suggesting any other restaurant in Park Slope & my son (who also hates fast food) thought I lost my mind! We went in- we ordered: me- Burger, extra pickles, lettuce. tomatoe, mustard son- Bacon Burger all of the above minus pickles Father- little bacon burger with onions. 3 orders of fries! 3 drinks = $32 Staff very friendly & sweet... tennage kids. Food was DELICIOUS!!!!! The burgers come with 2 patties! I did not know this & felt like a cow, but OMG I finsihed the whole thing! YUMMYYYYY! The LITTLE burgers are not LITTLE, it just means they come with 1 patty...now I know! The order of regular fries are HUGE!!! We could have all shared 1 order. Basically, all Five Guys are the same, like all McD's and Wendy's and KFCs, so my review applies to all of them. I usually order a hamburger w/grilled mushrooms, pickles, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, BBQ sauce, no cheese, no bacon. Awesome! Better than McD's, not as healthy as Subway. Their cajun fries are a bit too hot for me, but the portions are big. However, my complaint with their buns is they are soft, and when you eat the burger it breaks apart. Unlike BK or Subway heros which are toasted so they are hard. If you are tired of all the same fast food, try Five Guys, but skip the fries. read more

I don't understand the Five Guys hype. The walls inside here are plastered with awards and honors, and after eating here all I can think is: What were all of these people thinking? Five Guys provides a solid portion of a burger with lots of yummy topping options, but at its core the burger is average, and not very flavorful. In terms of fast food, a Five Guys burger is lightyears ahead of places like MacDonalds and Burger King in terms of taste and freshness.However, in the burger landscape as a whole, it pales in comparison. The bun is soggy: I like mine crisp. The lettuce adds no flavor at all. The ketchup is watery. The beef is fresh but boring, with no spice rub or marinade added, nothing to add some flavor. You can drown out the flavorlessness of the burger somewhat with toppings, but ultimately you cannot dress a wolf in sheep's clothing. Or something like that. Go to Bonnie's on 5th avenue for a better, more flavor-packed burger. And in terms of fast food? Placed an order at 9:30 pm. Two milkshakes, two orders of fries, and two burgers. They only sent the milkshakes with the excuse the place was already closed. Not even a call to let me know about the situation, not even to allow me to cancel the order and give me some time to get food from another place. So my brother got real sick and had to visit him at Methodist hospital and ended up eating at this burger spot, conveniently located across from the hospital. This is how it went down. Well my feeling is that with Five GUys you know what you're going to get. Its a greasy but delicious burger, generous savory patty, lots of sauce, buttery bun, flavorful cheese, and crispy lettuce and tomato. The fries are very crispy, large cut, salted just right, and filling. They also have one of those Coca-Cola Freestyle Machines, so you can saturate yourself with all the Fanta, Cherry Coke, Mellow Yellow or Powerade taht you want. The problem is not the first time you get Five Guys, its the second or third or fourth time. See its very delicious and you might be tempted to go back, but believe me its like the law of diminishing returns. Its just not going to be as good the next time. The burger seems just a little bit more soggy, the fries just a little bit less crispy, and the soda just a little bit a lit watered down. But space out your visits, and hey it'll get the job done. Its a little bit overpriced, but hey if you get a burger, fries and a drink, I doubt you'll be hungry afterwards. Its decent and definitely better than McDonalds or Burger King. Think more on the level of Johnny Rockets. But is it as good as In N' Out or Shake Shack? Definitely not, a step below those. You can certainly find a better burger, especially in NYC. read more

Okay, so I love this place and it's fantastic. They recently decked out the place and added a glow billboard, new counter, milkshakes (must haves) and other stuffs. They are my #1 go to burger place. However, today, some insane lady worked the register. At first she thought that when I stepped next to a lady ordering (because I had my scooter), that I was budging in line. She told me to stand directly behind the lady (who was done ordering and paying at this point). I said that I'm fine and not budging in front of anybody. She looked like she wanted to shoot me dead. Then, I ordered. I ordered a small burger, fries, and a chocolate shake. She should've asked me if I wanted whipped cream or not, but this lowlife decided that asking that wasn't worth her time. Then, I gave her $17 (the order was $16.65) and she didn't take my money. She just stared cold into my heart, eyes, blood, being, and soul. I said "cmon, here's the money". No response. "Here you go. W-What's the problem? Take the money." Nothing. I was so close to snapping, but after staring back into her eyes, this lady took my money by SNATCHING it, then rings it up, gives me my change, and doesn't say a word. What a lowlife stupid idiot. Then, I heard an order being called, but forgot to look at my receipt where they put your order number. I realized that the order being called was mine, and took my shake. Lowlife says nothing but stares and pushes the shake AT me. Then, a sweet lady gives me my food, and I'm nice to her. I sat down with my food and heard this over the food being cooked between the chefs: "Mm, dumb kid is sitting by himself ain't got no friends stupid ass" GET OUT OF MY DAMN LIFE. Yet, this has never happened and I've came here a lot. Also, this lady didn't treat anyone else badly (I asked some customers). Last thing, Five Guys is expensive, but it's 100% worth it. Pros: wow their burgers are delicious! I finally popped my FiveGuys cherry and boy am I glad I did. I got the cheeseburger without bacon with mushrooms (yummy!!) pickles extra ketchup over an extra patty. The meat is so tender and very juicy. The bun, initially did not look too fantastic but actually complemented the overall taste very well. You get free peanuts as wait for ur order if you go in person ! Staff/cashiers at the 7th avenue Brooklyn branch are very patient and nice. The soda machine is self service. They have bottled water of all different flavors if you are interested. Cons: calling in during prime time lunch hour is useless - u will be on the line waiting for them to pick up and take u off hold forever. Also the lines are super long if you go in person during prime time lunch hours. The service is relatively average - not slow - but definitely not speedy. The Cajun fries are definitely not my favorite :( maybe it's the spice but it's overwhelming - it's a personal preference I guess. Next time I'll stick with the regular fries :) read more

Just as good as any other Five Guys in the city and outer-boroughs! Staff here are friendly and efficient. If they see you waiting around a while for your order, they'll ask for your ticket number so they can check up on it. The wait can be a little longer than desired because they grill the patty right when you order. Definitely worth it once you bite into that juicy burger! read more

The burgers are tasty and the cheese has a nice sort of meltiness to it. I was surprised to find a double meat patty in what I thought was a single cheeseburger, but who's complaining?! The produce tasted fresh and crisp and I appreciate not being charged more for toppings considering how the price of the burger as is. The fries were beyond plentiful but were a little greasy for my liking. And I was a little frustrated at the inability to hear my order number being called from one end of the kitchen to the front seating area considering it created the opportunity for someone to walk up and grab my order, creating additional wait time. My kid loves these burgers almost as much as she loves me, so I thought it would be nice to surprise her with one. I called it in because I was short on time & I had my dogs in the car with me. I waited 10 minutes before going to the store & waiting on line to pay. Blasted new law that forces them to post the calories so clearly. The burgers here are just wonderful. Cooked great, topping are fresh, cheese is wonderfully melted and everything just comes together nicely. I have gone back twice now, and really you can skip the fries. I was really excited to hear that Five Guys was coming to Park Slope, having lived within walking distance of the original Five Guys during grad school. The Park Slope Five Guys is a mixed bag. On the plus side, they offer the same delicious burgers and cajun fries as the original Five Guys. Beware -- the regular burger is two patties and the little burger is one patty. I find that one is plenty. The service is also quick, probably even quicker than the original. However, the downside is that this Five Guys lacks all of the personality of the original. You can't help but feel like you're walking into a McDonald's. The bright lighting and stark white (and red) walls make for an unpleasant dining experience. So, I'll continue to go to Five Guys, but from now on, I'll get my food to go. read more

Fast food, done right! All the workers seem genuinely happy, and cheerily greet you when they take your order. At first it weirded me out a little, but they're actually happy. How weird! Everything else is pretty solid for a Five Guys. I have absolutely nothing to complain about here. Nothing is too slow, they are stereotypically generous with fries (even a small is good for 2 people). Having the mobile app to order while you're walking towards this place is great. Well this place is pretty cool, I mean really cool like the air conditioning in the back by the grill is awesome. Stopped by and ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger, with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and ketchup. Ooh and the fries were huge! Well I could barely finish what you think was a simple meal, plus you can get free sugar refills at the Step Right Up and become a diabetic machine. Well I like soda but it doesn't let me finish my meal, guess its the bubbles. And yes I sat under this glorious air conditioning on a hot summer day this was the icing for me. Cool your heels and enjoy comforting air conditioning. Aaaaaahhhh I love air conditioning and it was really cold were I was sitting. The burger is a burger no frills and I didn't expect anything miraculous, so not a bad spot and they make the burger fresh. You can see the grill as you wait for your meal. read more

The fries, which have always been served to me HOT, are fantastic. A one patty burger (w/toppings) and fries would satiate me for several hours. I've been wanting to hit this place for about a year, and recently had a burger and fries there this week. This place is super clean, the staff is friendly and efficient, and the customers run the range of socioeconomic class, race, age and gender. It's fairly accessible by train or bus, and is in a great location. Not too far from Prospect Park if you want to picnic. There are two sizes of burger and i went for the small bacon cheeseburger which was 650 calories. To give you an idea of the large, the regular burger with no fixins is 700 calories!! The burger itself was okay. Not juicy, not dry and the presentation of the cheeseburger was unflattering. The bacon was DELICIOUS! The spicy fries were amazing and tasted much better than regular fries. I only went there once, so i haven't tasted the whole menu. I was interested in the hot dog, so maybe I will try that. They offer a wide variety of drinks, but alas, no shakes! :( read more

This place is great! The service I received was excellent. The cashier was very nice and actually smiled as our orders were being taken. She was through in explaining the one question we had. Food is delicious as expected and I love how they have the vinegar containers for the fries! This particular five guys has one of those electronic coke machines with the screen that allows you to choose hundreds of different flavors. Not sure if others have the same (I didn't see one at the one in midtown). There's also a decent and clean bathroom to use at this location. This may have been my favorite burger since I moved out to New York. I remember thinking it looked interesting as they were moving into the Park Slope area when I first came out here, so yesterday, we made the trek out to Five Guys through the blistering cold (5 degrees with the wind chill). However, after having the burgers, the trek was worth every second. In addition, there were quotes from various magazines and whatnot on the walls mentioning how great the fries were, so I figured I would try some - while I am not normally a fries guy, these were very tasty... every fry perfectly crispy, just like they should be and never are anywhere else. The atmosphere was also pretty cool - most noticeably, we saw this board where people posted funny notes about how good Five Guys was. While this is no In 'N Out - this is as close as it gets and it was delicious. Lastly, the menu throws you off a little - the baby burgers are actually single patty whereas the regular burgers are with two patties... it may be worth it to get the baby burger considering the number of calories in the burgers... definitely fatty and oh-so-tasty! read more

After playing a game of Delivery Versus™ and on the suggestion of my friend Mike, we ended up walking here for food instead of getting some atomically-correct wings delivered straight to our bellies. What a wise decision. The small cheeseburger is 1 patty, the regular is 2. Clearly I got the regular with bacon, since I love bacon. I think i got some grilled onions and mushrooms and cheese as well, but I am not sure because all I was focusing on was bacon. I also got a hot dog with bacon. I think I got onions and mustard as well since that's what I usually get, but again all I can remember is that I got it with bacon. Mmm. Sorry. I kind of lose it for bacon. Oh my goodness, I need to go here every time I visit New York! In San Diego and other parts of the west coast we have In-n-Out which is good, but not great in my opinion--I know others would beg to differ. After a long day in Brooklyn my friend and I needed food and we didn't really find the pizza place we were looking for and she suggested Five Guys. I had never heard of it and she sad it was great, and Obama made a point to visit it when he was going, i forget where she said he went, so I was down for trying it. So many condiments to choose from! I added jalapenos to my burger...hottest jalapenos I've ever had! The burger was delicious and so were the fries. I was ordering the fries and I was asked if I wanted spicy or regular and I excitedly chose the spicy option. Delicious! I ordered a small fry i think and they loaded that little carton up! I had fries all over my bag which made me very, very happy. And apparently there is one in San Diego which I will have to visit very soon. Good to know I have one in my neck of the woods. read more

I am going to die of a heart attack because they opened a Five Guys one block from my apartment. At least Methodist Hospital is across the street. Went to college in DC and am thrilled that they've expanded northward. Burgers are made to order, juicy and delicious. I love their choice of bun but that's a personal preference. Fries are crispy and perfect for my taste. Tips: - The fry orders and huge. Get one for two people and it will still probably be too much. - The standard burger is actually a double. Go for the "mini" or whatever they call it unless you're very very hungry. The mini is a normal sized, single patty burger. read more
