This restaurant had a nice ambiance and great staff. I was greet upon entering and seating by the hostess immediately. My waitress was amazing, I wish I could remember her name so that I could give her credit but unfortunately I forgot. I ordered a lemon drop martini which wasn't the best, it was really bitter and over powered by alcohol. For my entree I ordered the stuffed Shrimp which I felt could've been bigger, since they were being stuffed, it seemed more like they were topped instead of stuffed. However they came with green beans and a baked potato. I was able to swap out the baked potato for mashed potatoes which were good. I dropped my fork and before I could even get out of my chair there was a server walking by who picked it up and replaced it immediately. I went during the daytime so it was well lit, but I happened to return after dark thinking that I left my jacket there and the lights were dimmed. Oh my. Where do I even start? Grab a cup of coffee--this is going to take a minute. Our recent visit to Fishbones in St. Clair Shores, MI, was an absolute disaster when it came to the food, drinks, portions, and prices. First, let me give credit where credit is due: our server was fantastic. She was probably the most positive, energetic, and genuinely pleasant server I've encountered in a very long time. I only wish I could remember her name because she deserved every bit of praise. Unfortunately, that's pretty much where the good news ends. My friend's Bud Light arrived warm and flat--apparently Fishbones has decided beer is better served at room temperature with a side of disappointment. Thankfully, they replaced it with a bottled beer, which was fine. My two drinks were okay, but WOW! The prices were something else, even for Happy Hour. And here's a fun little challenge: try finding the drink prices before you go. It's almost impossible to find the regular drink menu, and the Happy Hour drink prices aren't exactly advertised front and center either. I actually had trouble getting ChatGPT to find the current prices. What are they hiding? Oh... wait. Maybe they're hiding the prices because they're ridiculously expensive! The edamame appetizer and calamari were satisfactory, so I'll give them credit for that. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. My friend was craving the chicken gumbo with andouille sausage. When it arrived, she was shocked at the portion. The bowl was small, containing two tiny slivers of sausage and a few small, chewy pieces of chicken that she initially thought were dumplings. Two slivers of sausage. In chicken-andouille gumbo. Apparently the sausage was there on a witness protection program. My wife ordered the char-grilled chicken with rice and vegetables. What arrived was, and I am absolutely not kidding, a piece of chicken that looked to be about 4 ounces. Four ounces. For a dinner entrée. Is chicken suddenly an exotic luxury item? You'd think that for a dinner entrée, an 8-ounce portion wouldn't be an outrageous request--especially considering chicken isn't exactly made from gold. Then came my meal: the linguine with shrimp and crab, described on their menu as a New Orleans favorite and a "crowd favorite." Well, apparently the crowd wasn't there that night. There was NOT ONE PIECE OF CRAB in my entire dish. Not one. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Just about 15 shrimp, several of which were undercooked. So I paid New Orleans prices for what essentially amounted to a bowl of undercooked shrimp pasta. The crab must have been on vacation. Then came the bill--and that's when the evening reached its grand finale. An automatic 18% gratuity was added to our bill for a party of only three. And then, just for fun, there was another tip line asking if we'd like to leave even more. Our server absolutely would have received 20% or more from me based on her excellent service. She earned it. But when an automatic gratuity is already added and you're then presented with another opportunity to tip, it left me pretty irritated. And yes, I understand that the automatic gratuity wasn't our server's fault. She was actually the best part of the entire experience. Unfortunately, by the time the bill arrived, I was simply too annoyed to feel generous. So let's recap: Warm, flat beer Extremely expensive drinks Tiny portions A 4-ounce "dinner" chicken breast Gumbo with sausage measured in slivers Linguine with shrimp and crab--with NO CRAB Undercooked shrimp An automatic 18% gratuity And then another tip line What a bargain! And if you want to see the menu and prices before you go, good luck. Finding the current menu with actual drink prices is almost like participating in an escape room. "Find the Fishbones drink prices and escape with your wallet intact." Needless to say, I will NEVER go back to Fishbones. Our server deserved better. Unfortunately, the food and overall experience did not. If you decide to give Fishbones a try, that's your choice. But my advice? Buyer beware--and maybe eat a sandwich before you go. read more

Met some out of state friends who remembered fishbones from years back and wanted to dine there before going to a concert at ford field. It did not disappoint. Huge restaurant right in the middle of downtown Detroit, and close to the stadium. We went in for dinner on a Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised how big this restaurant was. From the outside it certainly doesn't look like it could be two restaurants. We were seated on the side where live music is offered, however it was a little empty too. But I was not complaining because the waitstaff was on top of their game. We ordered a seafood pasta and salad. The food wasn't a 10, but I could come back for a visit and recommend the restaurant. This location is a bit hard to get to. There is construction all around it and some roads are closed off on the side of the restaurant. Once inside, it has a nostalgic feel but also is big and open with plenty of seating. The service was lovely for our group of 4, our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. This place is HUGE! I was a bit weary, due to some other reviews but I am so glad we went. Jessica was our server and she was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful! I got the braised short rib and it was perfect. A nice portion too, giving me leftovers. Pricey, but SO worth it. My husband got, étouffée, seafood gumbo and jambalaya. He loved the jambalaya the most, and the others were not too bad, he said he wished he would've gotten a larger jambalaya portion since it was so tasty. Went here opening day 4/4/25. It was an average experience. The management should've been better. All the food was cool. Drinks were fine. I loved my deep eddys lemon drop. Was disappointed that they didn't have the chicken & sausage gumbo. Especially after I had sat there waiting once ordered it. Thats the only reason i went there in the first place. UPDATE: The owner has responded claiming this is a "bogus review" because their cameras supposedly did not show anyone who was "visibly pregnant" and because they claim we were not seated near the front door. I was in fact seated right next to the area where we entered the restaurant. I was also 11 weeks pregnant at the time of our visit. At 11 weeks, pregnancy may not be visibly apparent, so using surveillance footage to publicly question whether I was pregnant is inappropriate and completely irrelevant to the service and food issues I described. My fiancé did not receive the second drink he requested, despite telling the server he wanted one, and our server was not attentive. I cannot medically prove what caused my illness, but the timing made me concerned about the meal as it had been the only thing I had ate in hours before my proposal... Fishbones Rhythm Kitchen Cafe (West) was the recent dinner destination in Southfield. It had been a long time since I dined here. Probably not since the national pandemic shutdown. It is great to see they survived the storm when many restaurants closed their businesses. My book club gathered in their French Quarter private dining room. Everything was nicely setup for us to dine and discuss our book selection. The mounted television also played soft music for us. Our book club host hand everything prepared for us in advance. Our food selection for the evening was chosen and setup by our server. She was excellent! She was also very accommodating for two members that were doing the Daniel Fast by bringing them baked potatoes and veggies. Our spread was excellent and plentiful! We had catfish beignets with remoulade sauce, chicken, Orleans pasta, garden salad, and bread followed by chocolate cake. Our beverage options were in our room and anyone wanting a cocktail could go order one at the bar in the restaurant. The surprise of the evening was the live music which is there every Saturday night. The music was great! Just note the private room is not sound proof so you are definitely going to hear the band. I would love to comeback to really enjoy the band! PSA (posted signs): 18% gratuity is added to all guest checks and 20% for parties of 10 or more; No separate checks for parties of 6 or more. Went to Fishbone on a suggestion. The establishment is really nice and historic, but man the service is SHIT. Grabbed some fish and chips (cod and fries) that was, how can I say this, I've had way better. This is one of those spots that is making it on the name. One of my favorite things to do is order a plate of oysters on my walk home after a night out. Typically it's $20 or so. Tonight it was $60. I had no idea I would be charged that. I come here so often, I was sure it was just going to be $20 or so... so I didn't even ask to see a menu, and I got charged $60. So when I got home I looked up the menu just to check the price... a plate of oysters is still $20 or so according to the menu, but I got charged $60 tonight. The salad that I paid $25 for was on a plate that was too small with baby shrimp and not good at all. Our group of 12 waited over an hour and a half for food, only to be given inconsistent explanations by the manager--first claiming there were multiple fights, then changing the story to a medical emergency. Communication was essentially nonexistent. After we raised concerns about the delay, we were told they would no longer be bringing out the rest of our food because we complained. Hadn't been to location in over a decade and my has the quality of the food changed sadly. Cleanliness was also an issue. Entered the women's restroom to wash our hands before dinner an awful odor hit us. The bathroom had napkins and other trash on the floor, trash on the floor in 1 of the stalls and what looked to be urine on the floor as well. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been attended to or freshened up all day. The seafood gumbo which I loved since being a young girl, stopping by the restaurant after a day of shopping with my grandmother who was originally from New Orleans, LA now resembles a gravy flavor as if it's no longer made fresh. It was very sad. The gumbo was bland and had no flavor. The shrimp were very few. My southern fried cat fish came out hot and fresh. The red beans and rice were ok. My husband ordered the burger well done but it came out very medium rare with having quite a bit of pink inside. Our waitress saw this error and apologized. She then took it back for a remake which took some time. My children burger/slider plates came out with very few French fries and with salt on them, which we asked for no salt on any of the fry orders, so the waitress offered to bring out more fries for each of them. Upon receiving our bill, we were charged a 20% auto service charge but the menu listed an 18% service charge for all parties of 6 or more so we were charged more than advertised. Our waitress had the manager come over to speak woth us about the error and he made claims that the hostess should have informed us about the service fee and the fee was also listed on the website but we found no evidence of this. 18 or 20% are HEFTY SERVICE CHARGE FEE amounts. BEWARE if you have a larger party. Not a very good visit since my husband and I were there last time. Saddened & disappointed as this visit did not resemble the memories I had in years past of Fishbones. read more
