Absolutely beautiful place, the waiter/host was helpful and made recommendations. I finally tried tamago for the first time and that was incredible. We only got sushi and a few nigiri. The sushi was very fresh, the prices were reasonable and because this is not something I can readily make at home, I do not mind paying extra for it. During our visit, there were several carryout happening and they all seemed to be regulars at this spot and it's definitely a spot worth stopping by.

Got basic sushi for quick snack so it was pretty basic and nothing special. The service was standard as well. Clean place and plenty of seats. They didn't have any chilli sauce. They charge for spicy mayo and sircacha!

Excellent food! Loved the S&T roll. Not a big roll but very high quality. Great balance with the citrus flavor from the lemon slice on top. Ramen is also decent. Meat is very tender. Soup had good flavor and not overtly salty. Also got their bibimbap (not pictured). Nothing special but nothing to complain about. I would stick with the Japanese dishes though. Environment was good. Small but clean and neat. Service was excellent! Our waiter was super attentive and super friendly! Would definitely come back for their lunch box next time!

Wow. Melt in your mouth sushi. Came here for the yellowtail special and didn't even get a chance to a picture because it was devoured so quickly! One of the best I've had in a while staff was really nice as well!

I've been here a handful of times since they first opened and let me tell you - this place has the best bento boxes in town. Today just confirms it once more! Talk about consistency through the years. My wife got the salmon bento which is my favorite. Crisp skin on the bottom salmon glazed with a teriyaki sauce. I got the chicken katsu which is fabulous as well. The most amazing side(s) in the box is probably the tempura. The crispiness of the battle is unbelievably. When you take that first bite, you feel, taste, and hear a crunch that is rare for tempura. You get a piece of shrimp, Korean sweet potato, regular sweet potato, zucchini (or courgette if you're English), and dumpling all deep fried in this fantastic batter. Other small touches you don't see elsewhere are the picked cucumbers and what I'm told onions on the side too. Overall, best place in town or in the general area for bento box lunches and boy do I like my bento boxes! PS service and ambiance was on point as well! Love how they give you a full cup of beautiful large ice cubes for you to pour water over. Never need to ask for more water this way haha.

Shrimp Tempura Roll and Beef Bulkogi Roll

This place was carryout only when I visited, which was fine because that way my coworker and I could just eat the food at the office. First, the positives: they have friendly staff working there, and they left a good impression despite limited interaction (since I just went in to get my food). It's nice that the meals came with miso soup at no charge. We ordered a couple shrimp tempura rolls to share, which were decent - the shrimp was not too greasy. My friend seemed to enjoy her spicy California roll. Unfortunately, I found the sushi rice to be bland overall, lacking sufficient vinegar seasoning. The tamago I ordered was interesting, because it wasn't attached to sushi rice like I'm used to (but since the rice wasn't great, it doesn't matter too much). The flavor of the tamago was okay, but nothing noteworthy. The beef bulgogi roll was weird - the two do not go together well in my opinion. With so many other places in Troy to try and existing favorite restaurants, I don't see myself choosing this one, although I wouldn't be opposed if someone wanted to eat here.

Food was good. Price for rolls are expensive! 4 pieces for 8-13 bucks. I would not recommend.

    Do they have vegan options?

They have few been friendly rolls, but this is basically it. They can accommodate few dishes but options are VERY limited if you want something different than sushi

Does this restaurant still offer Korean food like bibimbap like the Tokyo Seoul restaurant that occupied the space until recently?

Yes. They still have some of Korean food.

There is no ginger or wasabi so I track down someone to get it. The sushi we ordered was actually tasty. Fresh full of flavor and presented well. Maybe this server is new and just not comfortable in the role. It truly showed. We felt rushed, unwelcome and felt like server wasn't with us. This SERVER was the ultimate turn off and why we will not be back.

I had a pineapple suju, which I think was way cheaper at the grocery store, but that is okay, it went well with the meal. They have many things on their menu, and they give you an ipad to order, but not everything on the menu was on the ipad, so I ordered a couple things in person with the waitstaff and thus did not pay on the ipad (I image you are able to, but we needed a paper bill since a couple items were not included). I love the serve yourself bonchon, their items were so good. The kimchi was pretty sour, the fishcakes and kimchi pancakes were my favorite. I love the cucumbers, especially the one with sliced jalapeños. Those were so good. We got a couple sushi rolls, some black bean noodles, spicy pork, soy garlic popcorn chicken, ramen, and a chicken bao. The only thing I was not overly impressed with was the bao, it was just the popcorn chicken and not worth the price. But they rest, I felt the prices were great and the portions were big. They also had tea, which was nice. This is a great place and I look forward to visiting again soon.

This place absolutely delivers. The service alone is worth noting. Our server explained that the owner makes the myun (buckwheat noodles) fresh in house, using the ultra thin style that absorbs the broth if you don't eat quickly. That detail alone told us we were in the right place. The hwe naengmyun (spicy cold noodle with raw fish) was exactly what I was hoping for. The fermented, salted raw fish had that sweet, sour, spicy, deeply umami flavor I missed, with a chewy texture that pairs perfectly with the icy, refreshing broth and noodles. I'd give it a 4.5/5 only because I personally love it even more aggressively fermented, but that's purely preference. At the end of the bowl, adding yuksu (hot beef broth) is the move. It softens the sharp vinegar edge and adds a deep, savory warmth that rounds out the last few bites beautifully. We also ordered mandu guk (dumpling soup), which is pure comfort. A milky, rich beef bone broth with hearty dumplings, perfect for a Michigan winter day. This is an easy 5/5 when the broth is this good. The bindaetteok (mung bean pancake) was another highlight. Crisp on the outside, soft and savory inside, and cooked just right. A solid 4.5/5. Sambong is a place I'll happily return to. Not just for the food, but for the connection to traditional Korean dishes that are hard to find elsewhere in the area. This spot feels special.

After working out at a nearby gym, my friend suggested Sambong Korean Restaurant for lunch. I was…read moreinitially hesitant. Since I live in an area with plenty of Korean restaurants, I don't usually go out of my way to eat Korean elsewhere -- especially not in the most corporate area of Troy. That said, I was hungry, craving meat, and my friend insisted that Sambong was worth trying I kept my expectations low. The restaurant is set up cafeteria-style and completely self-serve, which means no tipping culture. We ordered at the counter, found an open table, and grabbed utensils and napkins from the self-service station. There are also two large jugs, one for barley tea and the other for beef broth, available to enjoy throughout the meal. While waiting for our food, my friend and I sipped on the piping-hot broth. It leaned a bit too salty but was incredibly soothing given the windy, chilly weather. COMBO: MUL NAENGMYUN + PORK NECK BBQ - 21 (after tax) My tray came with a large bowl of naengmyun and a sizzling plate of grilled, marinated pork neck. I started by tasting the cold broth on its own, which was lightly sweet and tangy. While I prefer a tangier broth, adding a good amount of mustard and vinegar helped intensity the flavors. The buckwheat noodles were plentiful, chewy, and soaked up the icy broth nicely. The pork neck was incredibly tender with a delicious marinade, though definitely on the fattier side. I was able to enjoy a piece of pork with nearly every bite of noodles and broth. The contrast between the cold, tangy noodles and the warm, sweet-savory meat was extremely satisfying. Overall, I definitely recommend this combo, as it was delicious, filling, and reasonably priced. Yum! After we finishing our meal, we returned our trays to the designated stand, completing the self-service experience. This is a great spot for comforting Korean dishes, especially in the Metro Detroit area. I'm shocked to find such a solid Korean restaurant in Troy. I ending up drinking three cups of the beef broth, which was addictive. Even on a Monday afternoon, the restaurant was more than half full, and there were quite a few older Koreans diners, which is always a good sign.
