Stopping in here today, I will say, the hostess really was so pleasant and made my time here worth my while. The menu has a decent selection of dishes, while nothing remarkable, a great variety nonetheless. I decided on smoked salmon niri (5 of them) along with miso soup and a water. I did also get a small house salad with what I think was 1000 island dressing, which was okay albeit a little watery. The place has a nice decor to it, while nothing fancy, it is quite nice and well decorated. It was a Sunday afternoon so it obviously wasn't busy, and the waitress (who also doubled as the hostess) was fabulous. The niri was fresh, soup was tasty and my experience was wonderful. Sapporo Sushi is hands down my favorite sushi restaurant in Troy. I love coming here with friends and trying out a bunch of different specialty rolls. I haven't tried one yet that I don't like, and there's a huge selection of items of the menu so plenty to try on multiple visits without getting bored of the same items. The service is always fantastic and so accommodating, and the interior is really nice and sets a great ambiance. Highly recommend stopping by for sushi if you haven't been before! read more

Great experience! We went for an early Valentines dinner and were pleased to find the sushi fresh and delicious! This was our first visit and we will definitely go back. We settled on sharing the shrimp tempura and gyozi for appetizers, and let me tell you what, that shrimp tempura!!! The batter was so light and delicious--I could shower in that stuff!! I had the seaweed salad that was ok, just a little bland, needed something to make it pop. I truly love a reliable strip mall sushi place and Sapporo is just that. If I ever have an errand I have to do in the area, I make it a point to work in a visit here. It's off John R. Road, which I have a theory that that road is a lay lie for excellent food. I have been there four times now or so. I choose them over other fast/casual or fancy spots, especially for lunch as they have excellent lunch specials. Is the sushi the best I have ever had? No, but it is the best I've found in the metro Detroit area for the price. The last time I went, I think the shrimp and the tuna were a little meh, but the Esocolar and Salmon were excellent. They accidentally gave me the chicken katsu when I was there last and I ate it while waiting for my sushi special. I would put their katsu against Ima Izakaya, for half the price, it was at least as good. So... our friends picked this spot out for our chow down get together. It's definitely a fairly nice setting. One side is a dining area where the sushi chefs are in full view preparing the rolls, nigiri and sashime. The other side is the tables with the cook top set for KBBQ if needed be. Their menu was pretty basic. We picked out some things to share and eat. So here goes. Gyoza: Looked pretty simple with no pleat work. So immediately my mind starts thinking it came from a box. Tastes pretty meh, the sauce was interesting tho. One gyoza was a little burnt. Salmon Cheek: Broiled salmon collar, but not quite. It's more of the back side of the collar right by the under fins. You get a good amount of fish belly meat, but the sauce was way too much. Some might like that, I prefer my fish not smothered. Just some salt and pepper. Seaweed Salad: Can't go wrong with this. But these are surely came out of a baggie bag. But then again, all seaweed salads do come out of a bag bag. Sushi Rolls: I knew what I got, but didn't quite remember all the other ones my colleague and husband ordered. But they we all just ok. Didn't quite wowed me with the taste. Plus my spider roll was somewhat off. Ice Cream Tempura: It's pretty good,,, a lot of breading, but certainly very pleasing to the eye. Fried Bananas: Yes!!! This is a desert I can definitely recommend getting here. It's superb! The service was pretty good. Even though they got slammed because no restaurant ever expects to get a major rush on a Tuesday. But they did actually do a good job keeping up with the orders and such. This place is alright. It's not bad, but not actually the best either. Hence 3 stars. The prices here are a bit more expensive than other Jap/Kor restaurants around IMO but they're good and fresh, and they definitely don't skimp out on the meat or veggies.I've tried many things on their menu before. I've ordered Japchae before and wasn't a big fan. Gave it another shot and enjoyed it. Not overly salty and had a nice mixture of meat and veggies. Portion was good. The Sushi seems a bit smaller but it was fresh. Cravings satisfied! I had to drive pass 2 Jap/Kor restaurants to come here; worth it though. I've always had great services here. I adored this sushi/hibachi spot, it's in a strip mall with the Buffalo Wild Wings Arena but very visible. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. Food came out quickly and didn't disappoint! The sushi offerings are varied and there was a ton to choose from. We stuck with the traditional rolls, Spicy Tuna (Spicy!), Rainbow roll, BBQ Eel roll, and Philly roll. They also offer Korean BBQ. We ordered the beef short ribs with rice. The BBQ was served very quickly.. The ribs were tender and very flavorful. The sushi was fresh and tasty. The rolls were small, but very good. The overall service was excellent! The restaurant us set up to easily social distance. The tables in the side room allow for patrons to BBQ their own entrees at their table, but not during COVID. As a massive Otaku I've been looking for new Japanese places to try in the area and was pleasantly surprised with this one. My mom and I stopped in the other day and were immediately impressed with the hospitality of the employees and servers. They made us feel at home and the general ambiance of the restaurant does feel like you're in a restaurant in Tokyo or seoul. We ordered the yakisoba and it was definitely the best I've had in Michigan. My only complaint with the food was that the menu states they have chicken Karage, which is the reason I came here in the first place, but the Karaage they have on the menu is actually a chicken Katsu. Katsu being breaded chicken and Karaage being deep fried chicken similar to chick fil a nuggets. Because of that bit of false advertising I can't get full marks, lol. But if you want Japanese food or Korean food you will generally not be disappointed here. Place is ran by really friendly Korean people who are actually from korea. read more

I went to Sapporo for the first time just as an off the whim decision and it was delicious! There were lots of people waiting when we first got there, but we were seated extremely fast as long as the rest of the guests. The staff was very friendly and did a good job of serving the big crowd of guests that came in at once. We shared 4 rolls and they were all super tasty. Some of the sushi was different than anything I've had before, like The Big Beaver, which had coconut and mango. The other 3 rolls we had were pretty standard but had lots of flavor! The menu had a good variety of the standard and specialty rolls. Prices were pretty average compared to other sushi places. Current pop music plays in the background and sports flash by on TV. The restaurant offers a lot more than its name suggests. In addition to sushi, there are Japanese and Korean dishes; veggie ones are marked with green leaves. As curious as I was about the many veg sushi options, I couldn't resist ordering the tofu bibimbab. It was outstanding. The tofu cubes were fried delicately, neither mushy nor dry. The veggies were sliced thin. Both of these sat atop a bed of rice in a sizzling stone bowl that stayed hot throughout my meal. Side benefit: the crispy rice adhering to the bottom. The sauce was entirely separate, in a bottle. It was a great meal for a cold day. The staff at Sapporo Sushi was friendly and attentive. In addition to our waitress, a lady who was either the proprietor or the manager came by to check on us. This is a great place for an easygoing, healthy meal. One of my favorite go-to for casual Japanese food--especially for bento and set menu. They also have some Korean dishes. Their sushi selections looked amazing but I haven't tried much of the rolls. I'm looking forward to try it when I have the chance too. I got the Beef Teriyaki bento the first time which was served over a bed of stir fried vegetables with salad, california roll, and tempura. Generous portions! You may even split it into 2 meals, but I personally finish it in one sit. Carrot ginget dressing for salad was refreshing. Tempura was crispy without being greasy. Delicious. I'm impressed with the beef as they were literally giving cut steak. It was cooked to almost well done so it's a bit chewy, but still tender enough. Sauce wss great. Stir fried vegetables was still somewhat crunchy. It was quite filling. I liked it so much I convinced my friend to order it when I came back for the second time. I then tried the black bean noodle. As expected the black bean sauce falls more on the sweet side. It's rich with zucchini, onion, and pork meat. I'm not a huge fan of sweet meals so I won't be able to finish it myself. But for black bean noodle per se it is good. Also tried the sweet potato roll and tempura roll (ebi avocado) Both were delicious. Good price. Service is nice. read more

My friend and I came in here because we wanted a lowkey sushi spot. It was pretty good, but the drink menu was nonexistent. We ordered several different rolls: california, diablo, piston, crunchy, crazy day, shrimp tempura The piston and diablo were very very good like 5/5 good. The crunchy was good too! Probably 3/5, it had less flavor. The california was just your basic california, not much flavor of course (i'd say 2/5, but compared to other cali's 3 or 4/5. The shrimp tempura was good too probably 3/5 as well. I disliked the crazy day, my friend ordered it and I don't like too much cream cheese in my sushi 1/5. I also don't like deep-fried sushi. They had no drinks. We tried to get titos and they were all out. Literally nothing. We settled for fuji apple and lychee sake. It was pretty good, nothing special. I didn't finish mine. The service was pretty bad, but the older woman (I'm guessing the owner) was extremely kind. Their dessert menu was also very small, no mochi. Great new sushi spot in the busy Big Beaver area. Four of us went to dinner on a very busy Saturday night. We went a little before 7 and the place was packed, but they hustled with service in an attentive way, and it was appreciated. I should note that they don't serve alcohol yet. I'd highly recommend the shrimp tempura udon, can't wait to have this in the winter with the hot broth, noddles and shrimp. The sushi menu is wide and varied; I had the cherry blossom and fried salmon and avocado. We were a bit skeptical seeing this location is in a strip mall and when we arrived on a Saturday evening there were only 4 other patrons. But I'm so glad we stayed! Our server was so kind and knowledgeable of the menu. I'm gluten free and she informed me that her parents are as well so she had great recommendations for what would be safe to eat. She also made it clear the chefs were willing to modify anything for me. I had Kiss of Fire roll and it was outstanding! It was fresh, spicy and very flavorful. I could eat that all day long. I also had the salmon nigiri which was good but after trying the Kiss of Fire it pales in comparison. One of the things I loved about this place is that you get soup and salad with your meal. The sushi rolls tasted good, but not out of this world good. Prices are very fair ($10-15 for specialty rolls whereas most places are more like $15-20) but I also felt like they were only a bit better than AYCE quality. The service is also outstanding and efficient. I have not had a bad experience here as dine in or take out; and the food is just as fresh and hot when ordered for me to enjoy in the comfort of my own home. I did not come across the review of their ginger tea. I remember coming in with a nasty cough one day and plugged nose so the older lady asked if I wanted to try it and I have been HOOKED ever since! I am not a huge fan of ginger but I swear on this tea and wish I could have it on a daily.
