I think I found my new favorite Japanese restaurant in Michigan. This little gem is tucked away at a corner of a strip mall. Aptly decorated with Japanese theme with cozy and warm seating arrangements, we were absolutely blown away by their fast service and refreshing Nigiri's and delicious appetizers. I went on a dinner date with no reservations. Luckily there was no waiting list so we got seated quickly. We started with some drinks, spicy garlic edamame, and Gyozas! Next we got the Spinach salad thing with couple of Nigiri's. Of all the items the edamame was the only item we didn't care for as it was a little bit on the sweeter side. Man the seared Macarel and Tuna Nigiri was too good. It just melted in our mouth. Trust me the seafood was FRESH. No joke! The spinach salad thing was a refreshing item something we had never had before. It tasted like some type of Kimchi with easy on fermentation! The service was fast and welcoming! Our server the young lad took really good care of us. Took his time to explain the menu and help us! Definitely going back again. There's no reason why we wouldn't. Really impressed by Sushi Hana! A friend wanted try Omakase and found this spot. It was easy to find availabilities and make a reservation ($25 per person deposit required). I also needed to push back our reservation by 2 weeks and they responded promptly via email. Upon arriving, I didn't expect such a cute lil' spot - really felt like Japan kinda vibes. We were seated and then we began our 16-course omakase adventure! The chef found out we loved Uni so definitely gave us lots of uni. He also checked in to make sure we were full and offered even MORE food. But all in all - I'm really impressed with Omakase here. I will say that not every bite was my favorite (e.g. could do without the handroll - seaweed was kinda soggy and the negitoro, squid (?), takuan was overall pretty mid), but all in all - a great experience as I did have some really special bites like beautifully done pink shrimp tempura, negitoro with quail egg, seared hamachi, salmon belly, wonderful cuts of blue fin tuna! I love Sushi Hana, the have great sushi that you can taste is fresh. I always get the crunch roll and a shrimp tempura roll with crab salad on top....BUT when did it become so EXPENSIVE!! Those two rolls were over $30 and for the crunch roll to be a specialty, it was the size of a small traditional roll, which is not very large for that price read more

We visited a cozy Japanese restaurant with friends. We ordered a Sashimi sampler, an 8-piece sushi set, Nagasaki Champon, tempura platter, and donkatsu. The Sashimi sampler included ahi tuna, octopus, calamari, shrimp, fish roe, and scallops: 4/5 rating. The tuna and salmon were fresh and delicious, earning them a 4/5 rating. The Nagasaki Champon was a standout dish. It was not spicy and one of the best Champon soups we've ever had. We gave it a perfect 5/5 rating. I've only been here twice, and both experiences have been great. Don't let the sushi part fool you into thinking only the sushi is good. The other non sushi dishes are also very good! If you're coming for lunch, I definitely recommend getting one of the lunch bentos because it offers a little bit of everything. I've also tried their bibimbap which is amazing as it comes out in a stone pot where the rice on the bottom gets crunchy. I went to order carryout of the Dragon roll around 1230 today. The restaurant was freezing so I asked if I could wait directly in front of the restaurant and they come to the door when my food was ready, they agreed. I paid $20 and waited. After 30 minutes, no one came and got me. By the time they realized my roll was sitting on the table; it was cold as well. How do you serve warm food in a frigid environment? We came here with some friends tonight who are in town this week. To preface, I'm not a huge sushi person but there are some I like. My fiance and I split the Beauty and the Beast roll and the Caterpillar roll. I think I liked both equally; they were pretty good. Our friends got bowls and one got a tasting platter. These came with miso soup and ginger salad, which I wish I had known beforehand, because I love ginger salad and the sushi didn't come with any. We also ended up ordering the kaarage (sp?) appetizer, which was also good - it was fried chicken with katsu sauce. I believe they closed at 9 or 930pm tonight; around 933pm they asked us, politely, to leave. If they did indeed close at 9pm then that's fair, but Google and also their front door said 930pm. I'd come here again for sushi if in the area but probably wouldn't make a special trip for it. read more

The most amazing Japanese food we've had since moving from San Francisco to Detroit. The restaurant is amazing inside and reminds us of our many trips to Japan. The atmosphere had great elements to make you feel right at home. Honestly it made me miss Japan and we started talking about planning our next trip at dinner. I think this place has pretty solid food, ranging from the soft shell crabs to the special rolls to the takoyaki, everything tasted like what I expected it to taste like. The o toro was definitely very tender in texture and flavorful in taste, which was a great plus! The price was very expensive, though. We had 4 pieces of o toro and were charged $54 for it, while the rest of the sushi cost about half of the price for 5 pieces, per the menu. I am attaching the receipt as well for reference. One thing I was a bit unsatisfied with was the pork in the katsu don. The crispy outer skin on the deep fried pork culet was compromised by something, maybe the fried egg on the top, and therefore tasted soggy. The meat itself also had a weird taste and the inside tasted plain. But texture-wise overall, the crisp was still there, so the katsu don still tasted okay. For those around the Bloomfield Hills area, this might be one of the few options for Japanese food, but overall I would recommend regardless, even for those who may be driving from Detroit. read more

We carried out from Sushi Hana again today. They require you to give them your credit card number when you place your order over the phone. They do not let you pay when you pick up the food. Now I know why. 15 minutes after calling in an order and giving them my credit card, I had multiple fraudulent charges attempted on my credit card. Fortunately, my card company blocked all the charges and sent me an alert. This was my only use of the card today. I called Sushi Hana back and the same woman who took my order answered the phone. I asked her for the manager's name and to speak with the manager. She said no manager would be available until Wednesday, and she would not give me the manager's name. I asked her for her name, and she would not give me her name. I told her it was an important personal matter. She then told me the manager's name was "Jean", and her name was "Sally". I will call "Jean" on Wednesday. Be very careful giving them your credit card information. read more

When we arrived, we were seated immediately. We asked for tea (not free), and two cups had lipstick on them (gross!). Our server apologized and swapped the cups right away. We ordered agadashi tofu, sake don, chirashi don, four nigiri, and fresh wasabi. The agadashi was fried perfectly and the sauce was flavorful. Good portion size. The amount of sauce is not necessary though. Both dons were fresh and tasty. There is sesame oil on the rice which we didn't think was needed. The nigiri was very good too! My first postpartum sushi this year!! we had it delivered to the hospital after I had my baby and it was all kinds of amazing! We ordered the firecracker, salmon on the beach, Hana special, and volcano rolls. Each of these rolls tasted fresh! They were well packaged. My only complaint would be that some of them did stick together and trying to pull them apart was deconstructing the piece. Sushi Hana is a restaurant that is part of a small plaza. It's a bit hidden so it is easy to accidentally pass it when you're driving there. When I walked in, I noticed a warm japanese vibe with all of the decorations. You can tell that the owner paid attention to detail to make sure everything goes well together. Even the wooden tables and booths match the aesthetic! I always order the same thing when I stop by --- the Chirashi. Chirashi is an assortment of fresh fish over a bed of seasoned sushi rice. One thing I love about Sushi Hana's Chirashi is that they use different ingredients every time based on freshness. It generally does come with salmon and tuna, but everything else may change based on the chef's decision. It is a bit on the pricey side, but you get really fresh sashimi in return. The sushi rice is seasoned well, the tanginess from the vinegar complements the umami aspect and the warm rice. The salmon is fatty and melts in your mouth, while the cut of tuna is more lean and less oily. I have not had one chirashi bowl from there that I was disappointed with. The portion size is good for the price and the variety of fresh fish? Plus the feeling of anticipation when you order Chirashi because you don't exactly know what type of sashimi you might get. It gets me excited for sure. The service is good, I've had a couple of different waiters and waitresses since I come by once in a while. They're all very nice and pretty attentive. They stop by to refill our waters when its running low. Overall, it is a pricey restaurant but the quality of the fish makes it all worth it. I definitely recommend checking it out. read more
