The filet was incredibly tender, with a bold pepper crust and rich port wine mushroom demi-glace, served alongside Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. This is one of the best seafood restaurants in Birmingham. Their food is always fresh and tasty. During my last visit, I got the tuna poke bowl and it was delightful. I love the complimentary bread, it's served fresh out of the oven and covered in Parmesan. The service is friendly and hospitable. My server made sure my water was always full and she frequently refreshed my wine. The space is on the smaller side but there is plenty of seating. Disappointing. I picked up takeout (the young woman helping was great. I ordered salmon medium and lentils. The salmon was definitely medium well (at least) and the lentils were hard with a strong vinegar flavor. If I had eaten in (and glad I didn't because it was noisy), I would have sent the lentils back. read more

So I must say that I did not enjoy the lobster bisque. I did send it back. It was salty and did not have that bisque cream taste., However my partner thought it was salty, but it was able to enjoy it .. Then it seemed like it took a long time our food, but oh my God when the food came, it was well worth the wait. our waitress Julia was very gracious and kind and was able to accommodate all our needs . Everything was delicious from the bread to my beautiful lobster and filet mignon and I had a pasta dish with spinach and shrimp and beef and a cream sauce. I mean I was impressed with the food. I had a really nice meal here with my parents celebrating my mom's birthday last weekend. I'm still thinking about how delicious my salmon salad was...we had east coast oysters too and having lived in Maine for years I can assure you these are the best I've had outside of New England...so fresh and delicious and the house Mignonette is wonderful. Tom and Julia were excellent servers, gave great recommendations, prompt professional and friendly service and they checked in often. So conflicted since we love this place but after the last visit on Friday I feel like it's gone down hill. Service was good with Matt. He tried his best to give us bread as we waited about an hour to get our food ... it was 4:30 pm and not busy. The food was blah. My seafood salad was so sad. It's my go to as well. Shrinkflation maybe played a part like cutting 2 shrimp in half and trying to sell as 4. The rest couldn't see because of all the lettuce. My friend's he said it was ok but looked like they just chucked the asparagus and potatoes on the plate. Almost like they were walking out to give it to us and reeled the server back in to put the on the plate. The cucumber soup was good. I can't wait to return! I wanted fresh seafood for my birthday dinner and Streetside Seafood did not disappoint. The complementary bread was served buttery and coated with Parmesan. Our appetizers were outstanding --the oysters (4) were fresh, savory and the perfect blend of cheese, spinach and bacon. The crabcakea were pure crab, no added fluff or bread crumbs--just as they should be! The entrees are portioned well--a full plate of food, so much that we took to-go bags home. My lobster tail was gigantic and cooked perfectly. The paired vegetables were delightful as well, particularly the roasted potatoes. I sampled the Panko crusted chicken and I would be open to ordering this if I was not in a seafood mood--but the seafood was such a great experience, I would barely change what I order upon return. Initially got seated at a hightop table across from the bar In a poorly lit area between the bar and dining area. Requested a seating change which they were able to accommodate. Overall, very solid selection. Went on a Friday evening and the place was packed and the wait about an hour...and a true hour at that. Unfortunately, the no reservations makes for a long wait. But, I will say, if you're in the mood for some really good seafood, the wait is worth it. As the first stop on our food crawl, the spicy buffalo shrimp and crab cakes were the choices for the night. And the stand out for the night was by far, the spicy buffalo shrimp with the bleu cheese dip. So much flavor. Perfectly cooked. Memorable. Please try it if you haven't. The crab cakes with tartar sauce were tasty as well. For dessert, we had the dark chocolate crème brulee with sea salt. It wasn't my favorite dessert but you could tell it was very high quality ingredients. The chocolate was rich and the sea salt definitely added dimension. The service was good. Don't bring a kid. Place has good food and pretty good service,aside from not having a drink menu which is odd... The real issue I have is they told us we couldn't have the stroller in the restaurant because of a reservation that was going to be at the table behind us. Which made sense. I did find it odd because we were at this point approaching 9PM and the restaurant was starting to look empty. Now all of this seemed fine but then literally not one table joined after us. Even though we had to take some of our entrees home, we still ordered dessert to split, the dark chocolate crème brûlée. So good- warm dark chocolate custard with a perfect caramelized sugar topping. My girlfriend and I were ready for a night out on the West side, and she picked a place across the street from Streetside Seafood. I took one look at it and said, "BYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEE." And as my temperature began to rise it was just as quickly brought down to neutral when I realized that Streetside was just across the street. Being 100% Sicilian I am a veracious seafood eater, but admittedly I eat most of my seafood at home. Last night my gf and I decided to try the place that I've heard so many great things about for so many years, and I am SO incredibly thankful that we did. After being sat by the affable hostess, Jason, my waiter approached. A brief prologue before the rest of this paragraph: I am a super outgoing guy when in public. That being said, I am somewhat particular when eating out. I like things a specific way and done how I ask. I am not demanding when ordering because I'm nice and make jokes, but I think that I also relay the seriousness of my decree at the same time. With that in mind I must say that Jason was great. BEYOND great. He gave great suggestions and took my order with ease and grace. He joked, but just enough to let you know that he has personality and pizzazz, and not too much where he was the star of our visit. I'll get to the night's star performer, but I'll start by saying that the bread given was damn good. Whether warm or room temperature, most places serve crap bread. This bread was warm and delicious, and I could have easily eaten more than the one piece I had, but I wanted to save room for what was to come. And what did come? How about 8 raw oysters to begin with! I tried 4 varieties, and while I cannot remember all of their names, the one from Washington was THE BEST. It had just a hint of saltiness and the sweetness followed. Truly the greatest gulp I've had. Then the Buffalo Shrimp. Fried and slathered with a mildly-spiced buffalo sauce. So good I ate the tail and all! The the calamari was seasoned amazingly well, with just enough salt and pepper to not over power the lightly floured mollusk. I tried the sauce that came with it, but if you're a real seafood lover you will not need nor want it. And the goodness didn't stop there. Jason, with his well-manicured beard and jolliness, quickly became to me a non-fat, much younger version of Santa Claus, because he kept bringing us delicious culinary gifts! The next gift were the Oysters Rockefeller. They were fantastically toasted and served without too much bacon, which can, and has, quickly bastardized this dish for me in the past. Speaking of bastardization, we took a BRIEF detour on the road to perfection when we tried the Lobster Bisque. This soup was the only bad thing, and even when Streetside does bad that go all out. The soup wasn't just bad, it was SO bad that I cannot even begin to fathom what happened. The soup was so weirdly flavorless, that I can only guess that MAYBE the chef makes each cup/bowl from scratch, and he was somehow distracted and forgot to season the soup. It was as if there was no seasoning at all. The little bit of lobster I tasted was the only thing that I could discern other than the cream. BUT, because everything else was so F'ing beyond my expectations I will still bequeath SS a 5 star review. Why? Read on! The Swordfish Tacos were easily the very best fish tacos to have ever passed these lips. While I am still a "newbie" when it comes to fish tacos (I'm only entering my 2nd year into eating them) I cannot imagine that they can ever get better than the ones I had here. The swordfish was blackened and served with manchego cheese, sweet corn apple slaw, and a black bean puree that was to die for. DOPE AF! To finish off the evening we had the Pan Seared Sea Scallops. I'll be honest - I've NEVER been to a place that serves food with crazy beautiful designs and accouterments, but this dish had it, and it tasted SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOD. The english peas were served on top of a cauliflower puree that was to die for. There were also baby carrots and mushrooms (I couldn't tell what kind) with watercress and a lemon vinaigrette, which were all sublime. I've got to tell y'all... I. Have. Never. Had. A. More. Well. Cooked. Scallop. In. My. Life. These scallops were so well cooked that I literally thought I was dreaming. These were the best scallops of my life and I fear for the next person to ever cook me a scallop ever again. Is Streetside a place I'd go to once a week? Maybe if I lived closer to it and made more money. But IS it a place you should go to once a week? YES. If you have the means and love seafood you need to come here and eat the best seafood in Michigan. And when you do go, be sure to ask for Michigan's Jolly Elf, and tell Jason that Cosimo says, "Hello." read more

My wife and I went here for a Father's Day dinner, it is a quaint bar/restaurant. I had a dozen fresh oysters that met all my expectations. They were fresh and crisp served with two sauces. I had their mussel appetizer and the mussels were fresh served in a wine and garlic butter broth with a grilled piece of toast for your dipping pleasure. He's very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and pairing options. We started with oysters, they're always fresh here. They were very good, as always. Had an opportunity to eat here the other night. Things are definitely opening up a bit and we arrive in the area after some rain. The sky had opened up and things were blue again. Plenty of people were out and about and we waited an hour for a table, or the bar. Denise waited on us. We came on a rainy Wednesday and there was only a half hour wait. Actually, we were seated in 10 minutes. It was a busy night as all the tables were full including the bar. I noticed they had many carry outs. Our server was prompt and we ordered A bowl of clam chowder and raw oysters for appetizers. It came quick. There was a bit of wait for the dinner but our orders came all together - scallops, salmon and Great Lakes Perch. We were all satisfied with the dinner. We would come back again, during a week night. I visited Streetside Seafood again last night and was not as impressed as I have been before. I decided to get the Striped Sea Bass which was one of the specials. I like that the lobster was on top and not mixed in so you could see it. Their arugala caesar was interesting. It was good but would have been better with romaine in my opinion. Hands down, the GREATEST meal I've ever had. You know the show "best thing I ever ate" my meal would be it. My husband and I were hanging out in Birmingham and it was relatively early. The restaurant didn't open till 1 but we hadn't checked prior to walking over to it. One of the staff saw us walk up and realize they were closed (it was about 12:45, so just 15 minutes to opening) he called us over and told us to come on in and it's no worries. When we worked nearby, we would come here for lunch as a lovely change of pace from our usual go-tos. I like the aged brick walls where all manner of fish and fishermen are displayed. The fish motif carried to the fun "fishy" cutlery. The meal started with hot, crispy and chewy bread, nicely flavorful from a light dusting of cheese. The tuna tartare appetizer featured chunks of meaty tuna in soy-yuzu sauce on a small mound of smooth, creamy guacamole. It is served with crispy tortilla chips. As entrée, I had a delicate and flaky whitefish, complemented with crab meat, celery, and bay seasonings (additional). It was served with tender roasted potatoes, wonderfully caramelized onions, and grilled asparagus stalks. Service was quick and professional.
