Streetside Seafood is a narrow and cozy restaurant with a boisterous bar and when weather permits limited patio seating. When we worked nearby, we would come here for lunch as a lovely change of pace from our usual go-tos. I like the aged brick walls where all manner of fish and fishermen are displayed. The fish motif carried to the fun "fishy" cutlery. The meal started with hot, crispy and chewy bread, nicely flavorful from a light dusting of cheese. The tuna tartare appetizer featured chunks of meaty tuna in soy-yuzu sauce on a small mound of smooth, creamy guacamole. It is served with crispy tortilla chips. As entrée, I had a delicate and flaky whitefish, complemented with crab meat, celery, and bay seasonings (additional). It was served with tender roasted potatoes, wonderfully caramelized onions, and grilled asparagus stalks. Service was quick and professional. My Dad picked this place to go for dinner. I have nothing against Birmingham but it's where rich people go to die, young wealthy families go to hang out with their lucky brats, and/or this would be actually an ideal date spot if your date is well off. I only had a glass of Chardonnay but it was delicious. I should have gone with an entire bottle since Daddy was paying. But lesson learned. We started with the oysters which the menu doesn't even list the price of. I apparently took the best one of the 6 and it was delicious. No regrets. I'm not an oysters person but it tasted really fresh. We also split the greek style calamari, which isn't really my jam. I like calamari but not with feta cheese , peppers, and olives. The breading on it was super lite though so the calamari in itself was good. The best app we ordered though were the jumbo buffalo style shrimp. I have never seen shrimp this huge in my life and I eat out a lot at restaurants in New York. These were so epic and awesome. GET THE JUMBO SHRIMP for the love of god. For our entrees we pretty much all ordered two of the same thing since I guess our family has a similar taste for things. My brother and I went with the blackened shrimp tacos with jicama salsa, black bean puree, and manchego cheese. They were solid. I liked the guac on the side. Shrimp was again large and well seasoned. They were tacos. In hindsight I was thinking maybe if I wanted a true authentic experience of what the restaurant has to offer I should have gone with a fancy fish but I wasn't feeling having a fancy fish kind of day. My dad and sister went with a pasta special that involved a lite butter cream wine sauce with mussels, clams, and razorback clams I believe. Maybe I'm missing a seafood somewhere in there. Personally, I liked it minus the razorbacks. I've never had these in my life but they look like clam penises and they were chewy and tough and tasted like what I would envision the aforementioned would taste like. I'm sorry for my brash brevity. I'm not sure razorback clams are the type of food for me. My sister said the clams tasted frozen but I disagree . . . those were pretty good and the mussels were great as well as the sauce it was soaked in which I wish there was more of inside of a fettuccine type of noodles. It was enough though to set my over-bearing father to lecture a hard-working waiter that had no idea what he was talking about. I was sheepishly looking away because it was really overall a pretty great meal. The staff here was amazing and the food was good (not great) but good. My lobster roll was good so was my wife's crab cakes. But they felt like they were missing something. Like salty, or obay seasoning. Like nothing had a flavor that really stuck out. It was all just really ok. However the environment was really nice. I wish it wasn't sooooo much construction or it would have been great. The wait time was long, and where u had to go to even check I was weird. But I'm pretty sure this is all due to Covid. Overall great food, get the raspberry point mussels (east coast) they are DELICIOUS. The bisque was good, loved the streetside mixed greens. Wasn't impressed with the fish tacos they were dry and not seasoned well. Oven roasted whitefish with crab meat smeared on top wasn't that good either, I would definitely get the cheeseburger instead next time. The best dish was tied between the bouillabaisse and oysters. Second best was the calamari and after that was the pan roasted norwegian salmon. I would give 3 stars but because of the oysters the restaurant deserves 4. I'll be coming back for the salad, bisque and oyster. read more

I went to this restaurant during restaurant week. It's a nice restaurant, themed in a nautical way. It's small so I definitely recommend making reservations. For the appetizer I had the lobster bisque which was phenomenal. It tasted sooo fresh and flavorful. For the second course, I had an arugula salad that was methodically though out of sweet and tart flavors. It has pieces of grapefruit and pistachios. For the main course, I had the mahi mahi, which was on top of beans that had a spicy flavor. Overall, a very tasty meal. To top it all off, I bought the chocolate creme brûlée......and it was to die for!!! The dark chocolate custard is topped with a crisp taste of burnt brownie and sea salt. It tasted soooooo good. I highly recommend it for my fellow chocolate lovers. Overall great place, but pretty pricey on an average day. read more

I think the food needs to be worked on a bit. I had a large dinner Caesar and topped it with some jumbo buffalo shrimp. I was sick for the next 2 days, something with the shrimp and I haven't touched shrimp since. It might have been a fluke, but I had stomach poisoning from the shrimp on my Caesar, that it was the raw egg in my dressing. Not the greatest experience for me. read more

The dim lighting and small space made it an intimate experience perfect for a casual date night. If you are in the mood for seafood but want to try something different from the usual, this resturant creates a new take on signature dishes. The tuna tartare, albeit a standard dish, stood apart from others being made with honey lime vinaigrette and malanga chips gave the dish a Spanish twist. Just from the Pan Roasted Salmon I would visit again to order this meal but many more items on the menu caught my attention. This salmon was served with lentils, tomatoes, shallots, and aged balsamic to make a nice dressing and bed for the salmon. I wish I could have finished it but between the lentils in this dish and the appetizer I was getting quite full. There is a specials menu so there's always something new to try. Just when you thought you had it all there is always something new. There's actually something on their specials menu right now I need to try, the Barramundi literally everything in that dish sounds amazing. read more

I had a fantastic lunch here, great marks all around. It's a cozy space, but never got too loud. The clam chowder of the day was Manhattan-style, and it was delicious. The decision was made to split crab cakes and buffalo shrimp. The crab cakes were full of great meat, very little filler. The mustard sauce that came with them was really tasty and added to the already great taste. The shrimp were enormous -- some of the biggest I've ever seen, and perfectly cooked. And don't skip the bread basket, it's some really tasty stuff (we could have eaten seconds). The service was also on-point, not overbearing but also checking in regularly and making sure our drinks never went empty. The prices are also reasonable given the quality of the food. Next time, I think we'll try dinner for some of the delicious-sounding options you have then. read more

We came here for lunch during Restaurant Week. I was surprised at how small the restaurant is. It was 2:30pm, and they weren't busy so we didn't have to wait for a table. We ordered from the RW menu. The lobster bisque was good but could have been warmer. It had gotten cold before I finished. The arugula Caesar salad was just okay. The anchovies and parmesan were almost nonexistent. I'll pass on that next time. I chose the blackened swordfish as my entree, and my friend chose the salmon noodle bowl. Of course I tasted the other dish and liked it better than mine so we switched. Don't get me wrong the swordfish was good and cooked perfectly, but I liked the flavors of the noodle dish so much better. Our waitress was great also. She suggested two martinis for me which aren't on the menu. I had a coconut martini and a pomegranate martini, and both were delicious. This experience was more 3.5 stars, but I'll round up to 4 stars. read more

This place is small and has great atmosphere (think rustic vibe with great music). The calamari was above average - lightly breaded and very tender. The clam chowder was above average with lots of clam bits in it. For dinner I ordered the cioppino and requested spaghetti to be thrown in. It was tremendous. Street side has become my favorite "go to" restaurant. I highly recommend trying out the oysters. I'm a huge fan of the oysters at Street side. The burgers are excellent and the staff is very friendly. The staff knows the menu very well, and they're always a great help. Excellent service. We were seated pretty quickly and given recommendations on the more popular dishes. We got a mix of calamari, oysters (hint hint the west coast is way better than east coast), and the whitefish. All of these dishes were exquisitely made. They servers were very nice and helpful. This place makes me wish I lived next to the ocean. The walls are adorned with fish in various forms, as a pisces constellation, a metal fish hanging from the sky lit ceiling, a photo of a fish freshly caught by a kid half the fish's size. Streetside is a reminder that there's a fish culture out there in ocean side towns enjoying fresh fish in ways I never thought possible. And although there's nothing better than fish caught moments before you eat it, Streetside makes up for the geographical handicap quite well. They are serious about fish here, folks. For my entree I ordered the Whitefish with Lump Crab. The dish came as a very generous portion of whitefish, paired with pan fried potatoes and asparagus. The fish was deliciously light and fluffy and the lump crab sauce on top was just enough flavor as to not overpower the fish but added a subtle richness. I was very satisfied with my dish, every bite was delicious. I could have done without the pan fried potatoes though. I felt they took away from the dish. It was the one part of the dish that took it down from a 5 star rating. It seemed strange to put greasy diner-esque potatoes with such a lavish dish. It was a party crasher so to speak. Just not welcome. I say this, and I LOVE potatoes. But they have their place and it's not on my plate of whitefish and lump crab, it should have saved itself for my eggs and toast...it was just too heavy of a pairing. The wine list is long and diverse enough to suit most any wine snob's tastes. I got the Gascon Malbec and was very pleased. For dessert: the Bourbon Walnut Pie, topped with fresh whipped cream. This dessert nearly stole the whole show. It was that "one upper" friend that everyone has. Just when you think you have this excellent meal, it comes in and tops it. I'm talking pure dessert bliss! Stopped in for dinner last night. Streetside doesn't take reservations, but our wait was only about 40 minutes, which we felt was very reasonable considering the small size of the establishment. We grabbed a drink next door while we waited, and enjoyed the weather. Once we were seated, everything was fantastic. I gave this wonderful restaurant 4 stars in an old review, 6 years old. I've gone here so many times since then and didn't realize that I hadn't updated it. Well, this is my favorite restaurant in Birmingham hands down. Great atmosphere, cozy but not cramped. Great service. And most importantly great food!! Went tonight and had the oysters Rockefeller, which are the best anywhere. Lots of cheese and bacon. Yummy. Paired with the best bread in town. Warm and buttery. I had the seared yellowfin tuna. Was in Birmingham and craving fish and have been to other awesome restaurants but never this one and now I know better!!! It is a small but intimate dining area, definitely perfect for date night! Loved their menu, I have to go back and order off of it because I was so torn with 2 menu items and 2 special items. We both ordered off the daily special which was nearly sold out and for a reason! They were both absolutely delicious! I believe one was a snapper over cannoleni beans(?), which was amazing and wish that was a staple on the menu!!the other was Barramundi fish. The ambience and the food was delicious. I don't like that I arrived and the place was crowded with only seating at the bar. I let the host know that I wanted a table for one. A woman came in about ten minutes after me requesting a table for two. When a table opened up he sat her before me. I asked him what is the difference between sitting a one top and a two top, since there are not one person tables. He did not have a good response. That left me with a bad taste. If not for my initial seating issue, I definitely would have rated this place higher. read more

Best restaurant in Birmingham. What you ~sea is what you get. Streetside has amazing service, delicious specials, and a solid menu. The atmosphere is top notch. You could say I'm ~hooked. Always have to split a bottle (let's be real, bottles) of wine here, along with fresh oysters and the spicy buffalo shrimp for appetizers. You can't go wrong with their Great Lakes Perch if you are looking for something that's always on the menu.
