Small sized restaurant with lot to offer when it comes to great meals. I really like their menu and lunch specials here. Last visit, I got the shrimp bisque and Lobster salad BLT sandwich. Both were very good! You get complimentary bread and butter with your meal and it's really good bread. The prices weren't that bad for a seafood restaurant in Birmingham. My lunch and soup came to around $15. Most meals were around $10 to $20 for lunch. They have outdoor seating. Service is good and the ambience is cozy. read more

Always go for the chalkboard special! I had the black grouper this week with rice noodles, carrots, red peppers and a curry sauce. It was amazing and a large portion. I do think their cocktails are $3-$5 too high (priced around $18) but the food is remarkable. I love every restaurant in this group. read more

Tonight I stumbled upon this nice little spot in Birmingham, and I will be back. I wouldn't recommend arriving with a party of 5 but for a group of 2 and maybe even 4 this is a great spot. I started off with the bisque of the day (crab and corn bisque). I think of myself as somewhat of a "soupy" and thought this bisque was delicious. The taste was outstanding but my only beef was that lack of lump crab you seem to find 2 or 3 helpings of in most bowls. The crab was mostly shredded and spread throughout. Overall though, I would get it again. Next I went with the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes. I really enjoyed the black bean and corn salsa that accompanied them. Here there was no lack of crab, plenty was packed in there with not a lot of filler. I would have to say though, I normally like my crab cakes to have a little more crunch. I was really tempted to order off the menu but the specials of the day looked too good to pass up. I decided to create a hybrid and mix the swordfish with a chipotle corn salsa that was originally being served with the Ono. I really liked the piece of swordfish, thought it was seasoned perfectly and the choice to adjust the side and sauce was the right one. The corn appeared grilled and was shaved off the cob which was a plus. I can't wait to go back and try their AhiTuna. I think this would be a great place to spend an evening with a significant other and enjoy some well prepared seafood and some drinks. read more

Lovely chefs special with rock shrimp, Cajun grits, onions and peppers. Fresh shrimp with amazing ingredients and flavors. With a hint of heat enough to keep you going! Wine was great, I also like that they opened till 11pm so that I could eat late, avoid the crowds while still have great food. Oysters were super fresh. From Washington and Maine. This is my favorite restaurant in Birmingham by far. I love the casual and friendly atmosphere and amazing menu. The service is impeccable and I always feel super welcomed. This is one of my favorite areas in Michigan so I like to come here for a late lunch, dinner, and drinks. I think this spot is great for date night, girls night, boys night, or fam night. Absolutely terrific, from the food, to the drinks and service, I was very impressed. This is a small restaurant, with a bar as soon as you walk in, and seating in the back. It is a bit cozy in there, but still enough room to move around. i would suggest if you have more than 4 people to call ahead to make sure you don't have to wait too long. Came here with my boyfriend after work to grab dinner. We were greeted and sat right away. Our waiter was very attentive. We started with the buffalo shrimp. This is a must! It was delicious, the shrimp was cooked perfectly with a little bit of crunch on the outside. Rolled in buffalo sauce, but not too much. It was a great way to kick off the meal. I had the whitefish topped with crab, delicious doesn't even begin to explain. It was amazing, I could eat it everyday. It was paired with asparagus and yummy roasted potatoes. Perfect. I love to come to this place for food & drinks but tonight I was absolutely disappointed with the service. It would have been a total of 3 but only 2 of us were here there at the time. The hostess went and asked the manager if she could still seat us without the 3rd person she came back after a few minutes and said sorry we can't until the other party comes. I explained to her that we would still be ordering prior to the other person coming we just want to be seated to order because we are starving! She didn't care and said "sorry but Incase your other person is a no show you'd be holding up a 4 person table". Very disappointed! read more

Absolutely best dining experience in a long time- service was excellent, helpful and engaging- lobster bisque had yummy sweet chunks of lobster- delicious dinner rolls- served warm- my husband's salad was tasty- He had the walleye and although it was good - it wasn't his favorite fish to eat- I had skatewing ( stingray) and it was delicious! We stopped in for dinner on a Sunday evening, and were seated right away (maybe the holiday crowd was already up North?). As others have mentioned, though, there are still a few kinks to work out - our server had trouble getting the drink order right, the air conditioning was set a few degrees too cold, and the food took just a bit too long to arrive. When the food did arrive, though, it was worth the wait! The SO had the scallops, which were very very good (and large!), and I had the perch topped with crab, which was simply fantastic. The perch was prepared just right, and the generous topping of crab with lemon and butter added excellent flavor. When the front of the house catches up to the back of the house (and I'm sure they will soon), this will be our place to go for seafood in B'Ham. read more

We went in today around 730 and received horrible service. When we asked to speak with the manager, heather taylor, we saw her send over a waiter posing as the manager. After telling the waiter we wanted to speak with the manager he insisted he was the manager and ignored us completely. When we left we saw heather pointing at us and talking to the waitress serving us. She was extremely unprofessional and ignored all complaints we had. My friends and I all work retail as store managers so we understand what a bad customer is. We had a simple complaint and it was ignored by the General manager. Normally this place has excellent service and food but we definitely will not be coming back any time soon read more

Only went here once so far, but I would go back for sure. The greek calamari was the best I've ever had. I also enjoyed the buffalo shrimp. The scallops I ordered for my entree were a little bland, but good. My friend got the tuna steak and loved it. I really do think that Streetside is the best seafood in Detroit. We don't have much access to fresh fish around here so it seems like the fish selections at restaurants usually consist of salmon...which gets SO boring! Streetside has lots of different kinds of fish and they prepare it all perfectly! I don't think I've ever had a bad meal at Streetside. I would go there more often if they were a little cheaper and didn't have a ridiculous wait every time I try to go. So, lets start off with the bread. WOW! It may be the best bread around...warm with parmesan cheese and butter, yum! It comes to every table, so no worries- you will be able to try it! For the appetizers, I've had the calamari with feta and peppers which is always delicious. I've also had the seared rare tuna appetizer which is super tasty as well. I remember having a fried oyster appetizer with sea beans as well, it was a special and it was amazing! For my entrees I always order one of the specials. They always sound so good that I cannot pass them up and I just forget about the regular menu. I can't remember exactly what they were, but I can tell you that every single special I have ordered has been amazing. I do remember ordering the soft shell crabs when they were in season (for the really short couple of months they are in season) and they were the best I've ever had! My waitress mentioned that people call ahead asking about the soft shell crabs for months because they wait all year for them! I think it is sometime during the summer. Streetside is a great place to go for a special occasion or just for some really great seafood. I have never been disappointed! Just make sure you are prepared for a wait, or go really early! read more

What I was particularly disappointed in this evening is the fact that me and my friends showed up at 6:30 PM and waited over two hours and 15 minutes for a table while other people were seated before we were. I was born and raised in Birmingham I've had these bartenders and servers work at my house over the years. Incredibly disappointed that three women were told the wait would be 90 minutes yet we watched everyone get seated before us who arrived way later. So far the only Bill Roberts restaurants that I found to be subpar. Typical Birmingham fare and guests who care more about being seen than the taste of the food. Case and point the tuna burger was just bland. I was surprised because I have been enjoying his restaurants since moving here last year. I have been all over the US and Canada. Salmon is my favorite entree. Simon's & Seafort's Saloon in Anchorage, Alaska is the only place that comes close to Streetside Seafood. The salmon is really that good. My friends tell me that there are even better dishes here, but I can't come here and eat anything else. The staff is excellent and very attentive. Mike the bartender is a great guy. This is a very small place - people crowd the small bar area on the weekends drinking or waiting on a table. We always enjoy watching the cougars that frequent the Streetside bar. These are the women who come here to sniff out the wallets of the men who can afford to stay at the nearby Townsend Hotel or wealthy locals- very amusing. It is very common to see a celebrity at Streetside Seafood because of the proximity of the Townsend. Any sports star, musician, or actor coming to Detroit will stay at this hotel. The only possible negative to this restaurant is that it is pretty small - and can be tough to find a table on busier nights. Anyway, great seafood, awesome bread, great experience. Now that I work in downtown Birmingham, I'm tempted to check out some of the restaurants within walking distance. I can't do it that often, or I'd be wasting the money that I'm now making -- the money I so desperately need. But I'm a sucker for what my brother and I affectionately call "a nice sit-down." A nice sit-down is exactly what it sounds like -- a nice meal at a sit-down restaurant. Not fast food. Not carry out. Not cafeteria style. Hence, Streetside. I strolled a lovely, sunny half block in the high-heeled boots that are de rigeur at my new job and got a cute little table for one at Streetside. I only ordered water to drink, since I saw that lunch prices started around $14. My sautéed perch for $15 was actually not that pricey considering I got at least 4 (maybe 5?) pieces of delicious perch, a whole mess of steamed broccoli (if I'm paying for a nice sit-down, I better get my greens), and a very nice portion of wild rice. But wait!!! I haven't told you the best part, yet. Before my meal arrived, I was presented with a chic metal basket lined with paper and filled with two plump breadsticks. This was a surprise, since I don't usually expect a bread basket at lunch. Now, I was feeling conflicted, because I've been trying to lose weight, so I should probably eschew bread. But, beside the fact that I wanted to get my $15 worth out of this meal -- these breadsticks were brushed with butter and sprinkled with parmesan cheese!! They tasted like upscale Crazy Bread!!! Delicious. I can't go back often unless I get an insane raise, but I think I'll be hitting up Streetside for a Crazy Bread-accompanied lunch at least once a month for sure. read more

This is our favorite seafood restaurant in the metro detroit area. We've never had a dish we didn't like. Their constantly rotating specials are the attraction, and we've had excellent dishes such as skate wing, monkfish, and halibut cheek. Their specials are always paired with tasty and interesting garnishes and side items. I don't think we've ever had the same preparation twice. The calamari is awesome and it's always tough choosing between that and the lobster cakes as an appetizer. Their house salad is one of the best we've had, and the walnut bourbon pie is unbelievable. They don't take reservations, so expect to wait 15 minutes to an hour or more on busy nights. Service is always excellent, but understandably slows on busier nights. read more

I grew up in the Birmingham/Bloomfield Hills area and I only make it home every now and then. For those of you from the West Coast, Birmingham is to Michigan as Palo Alto is to Northern California. Streetside Seafood is one of my absolute favorite places to eat in Birmingham. The seafood is really good and the service is also great. The lines to get a table can be long, but there is usually room to stand or sit at the bar while you wait. The bartenders there make great drinks. Another huge plus for me is that Streetside has a surprisingly deep and interesting wine list for a "mid-priced" (by Bham standards) restaurant -- last time I went I was able to get a few wines that I generally cannot find outside of California and a few other favorites that went well with seafood dishes on the menu. read more

It blows my mind that I haven't reviewed this place before! We've been going here for over 2 years now and it is still by far top 3 restaurants for me. Every time we come, the service is top notch. I love how they take their time and don't rush you - but they're still there checking up on you constantly. Their breadsticks are absolutely heavenly. Sprinkled with a little bit of cheese, they melt in your mouth and make you wish for more. But pace yourself!!! It gets better. The clam chowder? Re-DONKULOUS. Thick and creamy, loaded with clams and potatoes. We usually stuff ourselves so much with bread and clam chowder that we can't even eat our dinner!! Unfortunately after an unrelated clam chowder incident while in California, I no longer eat this soup...but if I did, it would be Streetside's that I crave :) Every single meal I've ever had here is just the cats meow. HOWEVER. The most amazing meal to date has been the blackened catfish tacos. Doesn't sound like much, but you get 3 small tortillas loaded with blackened catfish - perfectly tender and flaky. There is a coleslaw on the bottom and a fruit salsa on stop, along with a spicy dipping sauce. I changed my mind to the tacos at the last minute and I'm still thanking my lucky stars!! Of course, we always get dessert, we're fatties and we love it. BOURBON NUT PIE. Get it. Holy hell people! I can't even explain it. Even if I was deathly allergic to nuts, I would still order this - I would go to the hospital for this dessert!! Just get it and thank me later. Now of course there is always a ridiculously long wait, but that's part of the fun! I love elbowing my way through the bar and ordering a drink from the surly bartender. The drinks are nice and strong, and the people are great. It's tiny, cozy, and super inviting, so check it out!! read more

Maybe it is me and my standards are set too high but I expect any restaurant that charges near to $100 for a four coarse meal to provide a wait staff that is a few notches above Flo of Mel's Diner. Is it too much to ask that the waiter or waitress: a) listen and get your order correct; b) not walk up to you when your mouth is full; c) timely clear dishes after a coarse and not make you sit endlessly for what is next; d) remember to offer coffee or tea with dessert and then actually serve it. I couldn't tell you if the food was any good. With how bad the service was it wouldn't have mattered. This was a ZERO tip night and that doesn't happen often. read more

Here is what makes a really, really good meal for me. *Being shown to our table relatively quickly; *Place quiet enough for me to have a conversation with my husband without having to scream; *Prompt, attentive, friendly service, not cloying, without gimmicks (don't refold my napkin while I'm in the ladies' room, don't speak Italian to me, don't write your name upside down on my table, and most definitely don't try to make me ride a toy horse); *Food so good it's obvious that I can't prepare it in my kitchen. I have to say, Streetside Seafood hit all of these perfectly. We did have a later meal(around 9), but in Birmingham, a late dinner is by no means a guarantee that you will be seated with any sort of promptness. We were immediately shown to a table in the back, and were served by a very friendly polite, professional server. She was thoughtful enough to tell me that the scallops dish that night was about to run out and offer to hold the last plate for me. Anyone who has ever ordered a dish just to be told the restaurant was out of it will appreciate this. The food was absolutely wonderful. Delicious melty crab cakes, wonderful chilled crab-cucumber soup and yes--those SCALLOPS. Maybe one of two or three yummiest plates of seafood I have ever had. They were serves with very smooth, tasty grits (and I don't even like grits!) and some sort of a vegetable melange, and it all went together perfectly. My husband, a Northern Michigan guy, had a plate of fried lake perch and declares it top-notch. The only so-so dish was the key lime pie for desert, but that wouldn't be enough to take away a star. The bill for an appetizer, two soups, two entrees, desert, one glass of Riesling and a soda was about $95--more than fair, considering the experience. Hmmm. Not bad. Not excellent either, so with the price tag, Im gonna have to give SS a solid 3. We came to celebrate a "win" at work....it was our first dinner out as a married couple too. So I took a little extra time getting ready and selecting a nice spot to dine. First impression: whoa, looks packed. I hope the waits not too long. By a miracle, we ended up with a decently close (2 blocks away) parking spot and a zero wait for the open-air 2-top. Feng shui wise, it was off. We were one of three 2-tops wedged in this odd space between the doors. Matt was dining al fresco (and commented that the inside reminded him of Gusoline Alley (bahahha)... I was inside, looking out at the sidewalk and patio. Made for great people/yappie dog watching. No draught beers? Hmmm. $7 for a bottle off Founders?! Not surprised, but come on... we each got a beer and ordered 16 oysters in all four varieties. Oh by the way the waiter read the specials and took the orders of us and the couple next to us who apparently knew the chef and sipped champagne. (Were they also celebrating or is this their standard drink..??.) Way to make it an awkward non-double-date. Neat! The oysters were bomb. They did come out at least 10 minutes behind our neighbors oysters (order taken simultaneously), which was slightly annoying. They were fresh as hell, all very unique flavors. We sipped our beers and compared tasting notes. I did have to pour a significant amount of water out of a few them.... The seating is really tight as randoms and waitstaff scurried between our tables. The accoutrements for the oysters were limited. Shallot/vinegar did NOT belong on the oysters. We mulled the specials (only 1 out of 3 remained, but it was 8:15.....) all in all, I enjoyed the oysters a lot. I ordered "crispy calamari salad" because it appeared on the menu to be super fresh; full of kale, cabbage and apples with "ginger" in the dressing. I was sold. Nutrition does count, almost as much as flavor. My husband ordered the salmon with golden beet/celeriac root puree and some slaw. It DID sound great... We ordered a glass of wine for dinner....pretty nice pour. My salad was huge! It delivered on the dark greens and plenty of calamari. Dressing was scant. Calamari not exactly "crisp" but kind of what you'd expect from a salad mixed with calamari. I am not even a dressing queen, but ordered more just so I could taste any flavor. salad was much improved by the extra dressing. Smooth and gingery with a bit of sweet. Matt's salmon was cooked medium rare, per the chef, and it...was...fabulous. Such a crispy finish that we wondered if they torched it a la creme brulee? Or maybe broiled it suuuper hot? done to perfection. The puree...was just ok and the slaw was minimal. It looked pretty, but just a fairly small portion. I didnt see any noticeable herb oil that was raved about by our server. Concensus? While the food was good, it was still overpriced, and while we can hang......the crowd was about 20 years our senior. Atmosphere was kinda bleh, server was good but not great. Our waiter must have worked here for years because the way he recited the daily specials it was like he was saying it for the 100000 time. I usually enjoy my meal here but you can't win them all. We've gotten lucky every time we've gone and never had more than a 15-minute wait for a table... of course, we've also never gone on a weekend, which might be part of it... Service has always been friendly and attentive, food has yet to disappoint. The Greek Calamari and Char Grilled Sea Scallops are really, really tasty. The highlight of the current menu offering to me is the Nori Dusted #1 Tuna Sashimi. It's served with a bit of seaweed salad, sushi rice and a delightful ponzu sauce. The Seafood Saffron Risotto is a solid 3-out-of-5. I think I'd enjoy it more without the chorizo... not really sure what to suggest in place of it, but something about it kind of marred the dish for me. The bartenders are amazing! They totally indulged our over the top request for a Caipirinha, the national drink of Brazil. Oh. My. God. Perfectly made! read more
