I've been wanting to try 220 for quite some time and finally got around to having it for carryout lunch. I liked the packaging with foil to help insulate the food. I ordered the 220 burger that came with fries. Price was about $20 which I was totally fine with. The food was very good. Lots of flavor on the burger. The various toppings worked quite well. My one knock would be the bun; it wasn't toasted so the burger lacked some structural integrity. That and the onion jam which seemed more like cooked onions than an actual jam. Overall, an A rating for a burger (2nd best tier). The fries were plentiful and had nice crisp. A little more salt could have boosted them even higher, but I was pleased with them. We ordered some shareables like the truffle fries, croissant bread pudding and the miso sea bass wraps. Along with a Caeser salad with chicken, mini lobster and shrimp rolls. The plating looked amazing. The truffle fries tasted great you can taste the Parmesan and the truffle flavor was light but fragrant. The croissant bread pudding was so nice, they had so much flavor but I wouldn't have called it bread pudding. It was a croissant with cheese but there wasn't any type of pudding other than a liquid sauce. The miso sea bass wraps were outstanding so flavorful in such a few bites. It was just ok. Interior/decor are a little dated and could stand an upgrade. It was pretty dead on a Saturday for brunch. They sat everyone in the back room unless you wanted to sit at the bar. I found this strange and a little sus. Food was ok. Truffle fries were overly greasy. Salmon was pretty good, but wish the potatoes came whipped instead of smashed/roasted. Had a first date here this evening. Ambiance was great and service was excellent. Our server, sophia (or sophie, my apologies on not having the exact name) was so hard working and helped us out deeply. I do think the miso sea bass could be marinated a little longer in the sauce because i was only getting a hint of that flavor. I will also note that the pepper on top was very spicy to me. I do have a low spice tolerance, but i can handle jalapeños, but this pepper took me right out. The rice was excellent. I did like this dish but i would try something else in the future. I came here to celebrate for my graduation, and I was looking for a place that was fancy but also had great food. 22 Merrill was the perfect in between. The outside and inside were beautiful and I loved the ambiance. I came with my family and we had kids with us and even then everyone was able to choose something they liked from the menu. The service was also fantastic, our server was nice, polite, and very attentive to our every need. The food was also delicious. Im a nerd. I make itineraries when I travel. TikTok and Reels both recommend 220 Merrill for brunch. Unfortunately, our Amtrak train was delayed and we did not get to the restaurant until after brunch was over. Still, it was amazing. My husband had the burger and I had the turkey club. So good. But... the brunch was on our itinerary. So... I had to go back the next morning to get it. Am so happy I did. I had a great mocktail and the croissant bread pudding. So yum. And the service.... We went to 220 for a girls' night out on Saturday night. Upon arrival, we are promptly seated in the bar area, which also has dining area separated from the main dining room in the back. The atmosphere was lively and loud but not in a bad way. Our waiter promptly came over and filled our water glasses and asked us for our drink selection. The service was prompt. We each ordered something different for dinner, but we shared the mushrooms as our appetizer. The mushrooms were good but the portion size was small. For dinner we had the Seabass, the Bronzino and one of the flatbread pizzas. The seabass was delicately prepared and very flavorful. I would definitely order it again. My friends also ordered desserts, which were impressive to say the least. They definitely were fit to be shared. The wines were delicious. I really enjoyed the Chardonnay on the wine list. Came here for brunch and everything hit the spot. The vibe is cozy but still stylish, and it wasn't too loud or packed which made it easy to relax and enjoy the food. Our server Basheer was great--super chill, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing. We tried a little bit of everything. The French toast was thick and soft with a really good cream drizzle and fresh berries on top. Definitely a must if you have a sweet tooth. The truffle fries were addicting and perfectly crispy. The strengths were the appetizers. Tuna Tatar was good. Calamari was very good. My Mediterranean chopped salad was great. They ran out of the MP Bone in Filet so I went with the NY Strip. The history of the building is so cool! Make sure to look up the details! Since being a restaurant, this spot has gone through 3 renovations. I can't compare to the past, but this one is cute. Definitely a girlie vibe, but lots of dudes come here too. My husband sat in the bar so we could people watch. Great location by the window (table for 2) and views of the restaurant, patio, and the outside area. We started off with a couple of cocktails. For dinner, we ordered the salmon, short ribs, and the wild mushrooms. Good flavors and portion sizes. We weren't offered a dessert menu to peak at but we saw others indulging and they are giant. Definitely Instagramable desserts! I probably would have ordered one for a few bites and a lot of pictures. We came on a Friday night. They only take reservations for 3 or more people. It was this past Saturday evening, and my friend Sloan picked me up from the airport ... My flight landed DTW at 7:30 and we were at a table meeting our friends Ali and Evan for drinks / dinner at 220 Merrill by 8:30. Thanks to Ali and Evan for scoring the table in the bar for all of us! It was a cold evening, so I so appreciated the valet parking situation (and the one working heat lamp outside on the tail end) too! I was amazed with how crowded the place was considering the freezing cold weather and darkness outside! It was a fun ambiance with great energy but it was super loud... I couldn't hear half the conversation that Ali and Sloan were having right next to me and I don't think Evan could hear half of what I was saying either! Service was attentive... we had drinks pretty quickly and food shortly after. Everyone enjoyed the food they had including a Greek Salad, Steak, Truffle Fries, Oysters and Shrimp Cocktail. Super pleased with my dining experience here! This was kind of a random choice for my friends and I but I'm glad we went out of the way to come here. They have a really nice outdoor dining area and it was great weather so overall it was really pleasant. Their drink options did all sound great but we weren't drinking during our meal. My friend and I split the half dozen oysters as an app and they asked if we would like west coast or east coast or mixed. We went with mixed and it was delicious! They serve it with dry ice for presentation purposes which is kind of cool. The oysters weren't grainy at all and tasted yummy. For my meal I had the Birmingham salad which was honestly one of the best salads I've had in a while. It was served with shrimp and calamari as the protein. The avocado really added a lot of substance to the salad as well. It comes with a Dijon vinaigrette. Actually SO delicious. I would eat this every single day if I could. The shrimp was marinated/seasoned perfectly and the calamari was breaded where it wasn't too heavy or greasy or anything. A great complement to the greens. Loved the Gorgonzola in it as well. It was pretty pricey overall but I guess that's what you are going to get at a fairly nice restaurant in Birmingham. read more

I am not sure why I keep giving 220 Merrill chance after chance but this place just isn't worth the hype. Sure the ambiance is nice but the food misses the mark and the prices are not worth it. Our almost $30 salads were drowning in dressing and lacking in the uncharged protein. The coffee at brunch was undrinkable. Our server kept calling us "the ladies" like what do the ladies want to drink, what are the ladies celebrating. It was so very strange. Our server also seemed unknowledable about gluten free menu items and had to keep coming back to correct the information. The tables are literally jam packed on top of each other which has to be a servers nightmare and as a guest it felt intrusive. I think I am done giving them chances. read more

Don't wanna say what it tasted like, disgusting Service was good, waiter was very kind. Some of the food tasted spoiled and over cooked. Started with the calamari that was good and tender. Everyone was happy with their meal. Lamb chops were cooked to proper temperature. Shrimp scampi was tasty and large. Pan roasted salmon was a hit.
