Been to this place a few times. This last time the experience was a little lackluster than what I remembered. The food was not as flavorful and over all my experience just didn't feel the same. Celebrated a birthday, mentioned it on the reservation and when I got there and no one even uttered happy birthday , thought not necessary, it would've been nice to be acknowledged. WOW...that's a LOT of 5 star reviews!... which seems a little suspicious after my experience here. I came in midweek right around 5:20. We were two of the first to arrive. Every table (every seat, really) was marked "Reserved" but they promptly sat as at a booth and the bartender came straight away to get our drink order. The menu was was pretty concise giving me the immediate vibe that this is more of a drinking establishment rather than a dining spot. That said, my counterpart wanted to try their short rib dish which was why we came here over the China Cafe next door. BTW, they're not connected to each other, at least not by menus nor kitchens, per our server...however, they seem to share a website?! We ordered our food, and our drinks followed quickly. I will say, that the ambiance is warm and borderline romantic with nouveau accents here and there. The tiki decor doesn't really fit. It was pretty dark once you're inside. The pics make it look far brighter inside than it is, fyi. My guest ordered the short rib with white rice and a side of the Rosemary Garlic fries. The short rib was a great dish, nicely plated and an ample portion size for $44. I liked the hint of Five Spice powder in the braise liquid! This was the dish of the evening. The fries were what you'd expect from seasoned fries and an oddity to see on an Asian Fusion menu...they were OK. I ordered the Five Spice Calamari appetizer, the Spicy Shrimp dumplings, and the Firecracker Prawns for an entree. The calamari was maybe the best I've ever had from a texture and freshness aspect. It didn't have any Five Spice flavors, which was a disappointment, but overall a really impressive dish, the inaccurate description notwithstanding. The dumplings were fine and came nestled in a bowl in a soy based sauce. The apps were $16 and $14 respectively. I'd forego the dumplings at their price next time. The calamari is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, however! The prawns were huge! I was hoping the portion would be impressive and it was. I'm guessing there were 5-6 VERY large shrimp that were panko breaded and fried. They were just a little underdone but they were beautiful. Unfortunately, the "sweet Thai chili sauce" they were resting in was akin to anything you could get at Kroger. It was overly sweet and honestly, ruined the dish. At $36 for shrimp in sweet and sour sauce it was also a disappointment. We had also ordered their edamame at the recommendation of posted Yelp reviews. At $9 for edamame you'll want to forego them! The tab before tip for my two apps, the entree, the soy beans and a 10 oz beer was $87. Seemed a little steep...with service that was above average. read more

And the whole atmosphere was incredible. It was busy the entire night but we were seated in the only area where more than four people could comfortably be seated. Nice long bar, we didn't have reservations but they accommodated us on a busy Saturday night since we only came for a drink (although the food smelled really good). I had the Purple Rain (tasted good, not strong) and my hubby had the Old Fashioned (which was good). There is plenty of parking since it's in a small strip mall. There are several Asian restaurants located here so you could always get dinner elsewhere and then swing by for a drink! read more

The minute you walk in you are pleasantly surprised. It's very well decorated, cozy, romantic and a perfect spot for a first date. I must say it was a bit loud though. Jia Lounge is a cool spot for grabbing a drink or dinner for a date night. I'd lived in Novi for years without ever even knowing it existed! It's right next door to China Cafe and affiliated with China Cafe as well. The place isn't huge and provides a cozy atmosphere just due to the limited amount of folks that are ever inside at any given time. I especially appreciated that they take reservations, something that can make or break your evening plans! Added bonus, they take reservations over text! Big pro in my book. The drinks themselves are good, but perhaps not the best drinks you'll ever have in your life. The ambiance and experience make Jia Lounge worth a visit, but I wouldn't expect to go there and get your socks knocked off by the drinks alone. read more

So sad that I didn't know about this place before! The cocktails were excellent and the food was excellent quality and delicious. The server was courteous and balanced food delivery and checking in with giving us space to chill. The music added a lot to the chill ambiance. I love the details in the decor, like the downlighting on the raindrop-textured walls and the beautiful textured winter forest wallpaper and fresh flowers in the restroom. Time for a cocktail? Well, Jia Lounge makes some yummy ones. We tried 4 different cocktails at the bar and every single one was delicious! My favorite was the dreamsicle. Tasted exactly like eating a dreamsicle but with alcohol for the win. Simply delicious. Plus, service was top notch and the atmosphere is delightful. We didn't have any food while we were there but I did see some rolls that our fellow patrons ordered and they definitely looked well done and delicious. Oh my gosh! I am so excited for this new lounge/small plates, relaxing bistro! I have enjoyed China Cafe for years and they have now opened Jia! Jia is thoughtful, calm, serene and it has a great, relaxing, but fun vibe. It is an oasis in this Novi community. The ambience and decor are all sophisticated, polished, but still comfortable and welcoming. The alcohol and libations were chosen with care and presented to the patrons with respect and beauty! There is a huge wine selection and craft beers are plentiful! They are offering a nice little menu of small plates which they plan on expanding. We were told about upcoming plans for offering sushi, have wine pairings and their scotch collection is excellent. They have Japanese whiskeys as well. The service is great and the owner's touch is everywhere! They are great people! I will definitely return and plan to spend an evening. One of the best cocktail bars in the Novi area. Great food and not very crowded. It has a very private entrance with a speakeasy appeal. It is part of the same building as China Cafe but the menu, wine, and cocktails are unique from the menu at the China Cafe. The staff is amazing and attentive! I have been remiss in not reviewing Jia yet. This and partner China Cafe are by far our favorite restaurants in the Novi area and we were just at Jia the other night! I rarely give 5 stars however they definitely deserve it. Susana and Kelly should give lessons on how to run a restaurant. Let's start with the front. Susana and Kelly have created a cool vibe for adults to hang out. Susana is the epitome of a hostess. She is a natural at making everyone feel welcome and a part of the family while running a busy front of the house. The drinks are great and now have an expanded bourbon offering that will definitely please those that enjoy a sip or three. I am a huge fan of small plates and Kelly has designed a menu that. It gives you a chance to taste various offerings from the kitchen and see what they do best and Kelly doesn't disappoint. I have been here quite a few times now and I have to say there isn't anything on the menu that I wouldn't recommend! For first timers definitely try the smoked salmon dip. It has a great balance of smoke and salmon flavor. Another starter to try is the spicy Korean wings. You won't go back to Buffalo. For seconds, you can't go wrong with any of the tacos, the shrimp tempura being my favorite. If there is only one thing you get off the menu, make sure it is either the short ribs or the lobster roll if available. They are both out of this world good. read more

The second time we came here, it was a couple of months later and the host remembered us down to what we ordered. Love the 2 ladies that were running the place both times. Our first time here tonight. Mid-week and we went right at opening so they weren't busy. First of all, it is BEAUTIFUL inside....super clean, modern but with Asian touches.
