Way better than the sushi that has become inconsistent AF from noble fish! This is my family's new go to the price is fair and the sushi is fresh! We ordered 4 rolls and they were excellent and fresh! The spicy sauce was also excellent! read more

Came in here with a Nift gift car and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food and the service! We got really lucky with getting a seat in here as there's room for only 4 people at one small table. Nonetheless, most that were coming in were getting carry out anyways. But the owner was sitting out there with us after the food was prepared working on some things and we chatted a bit about the food and the history of the location. He is so friendly and sweet! Definitely happy that we stopped in here! read more

I ordered through UberEats while staying at the Westin Southfield for a work conference. The driver took a bit longer than expected (not the restaurants fault, it was also the tail end of rush hour), but the food still tasted fresh! Since it's sushi, I wasn't concerned about the temperature. I ordered the chirashi bowl and the dragon roll. The portions were very generous! The tuna and salmon were just OK quality, but I really liked the yellowtail. This definitely hit the spot while I was in town for work! read more

Pre pandemic this place was great but I've ordered a couple times since in hopes of enjoying what it once was but those days seem to be over now. The quality and flavors seem to have gone downhill. I had 6 rolls that I used to get from here all the time for me and the family along with a couple non sushi entrees and we loved it but I'm not sure if they changed owners or not since everything tastes so different- specifically anything with cream cheese or crab salad in it. Not necessarily inexpensive either so a total bummer. Much better options in the area, I won't be coming back unfortunately. read more

We catered some Poke bowls here for lunch and the food was absolutely delicious. High quality ingredients and really friendly staff as well- we got to chat with the owner a bit! Definitely looking forward to dining in and trying more food soon. read more

Amazing sushi and quick service. Would recommend this place to anyone grabbing a bite to eat.

I order carry out with some friends from here. The sushi was just so so. Nothing special. Out of the 3 rolls I got, the firecracker was the best. The rest were mediocre. One of the people I was with order the hotdog. It barley had any meat, it was mostly just fried cheese. I would not hurry back here anytime soon. read more

Ordered two rolls and the shrimp tempura for my first visit and I thought they did a really good job. It was delicious. Their store doesn't have any room for dinning, so it's all carry out. The tempura was served with some sauce, maybe soy sauce, and I would have enjoyed it more with like a spicy Mayo or something. I imagine I could make that happen next time I order. For the 2 roles and the tempura it was roughly $20 which is OK when it comes to price for this quality of sushi. I say that, but honestly I don't Frequent a lot of sushi spots these days. read more

I've been here many times - the owner is very nice and if you sit inside and eat it is better. We've never had hibachi just the sushi which is fresh and good. I think they loop little tape balls on everything which seems a little odd to watch, but it sure is nice when you get home and the sauces aren't spilled all over the place. It is good. read more

Our regular sushi place was closed on Sunday so we decided to try California Roll Sushi and we were not disappointed. Ordering on their website was very easy, I was happy to see that they offer vegan mayo on some rolls. It was valentine's day so they were extremely busy, very nice lady called me after I placed the order that they are running behind so my order will take 10 more minutes than indicated. When I arrived I was told another 15 minutes. They were very apologetic. I wasn't happy but I get it. Sushi tends to be a staple for Valentine's dinner and with so many sushi places closed on Sunday they were definitely overwhelmed. We ordered vegetable gyoza, Seaweed salad, Spicy Tuna Roll and Shrimp Tempura for my husband and Sweet Potato Tempura and Buddah's Harvest for myself. I also got Inari Sashimi. Everything was delicious and very fresh. We will definitely order from them in the future. read more

Had Alaska roll, some sashimi, and med spicy ramen. Sushi was fresh, not filled with rice. The content to rice ratio was about 70:30 which I appreciated. Sashimi x 4 was also good - had the melt in your mouth effect. Would say quality was mid-tier, which was on par for this local, small, business. It met my expectation and did not go above or below. The ramen noodles were overall good, but noodles were not hand-made and tasted like it came from pre-made packaging. The soup base, although had good heat, seemed like it was from a packet. Like shin ramen. Not bad, just not "real". I did not expect more though, and the quality of the ramen again matched the "quality" of the restaurant. read more

I got a groupon for this place as a gift and it was such a good deal!! I am SO glad I was able to check this place out. They don't have a menu posted inside anywhere but there are plenty of menus available online and in paper format at the store. They have all the standard rolls you would expect from a sushi place (California roll, spicy tuna, veggie rolls) but they also had a bunch of super fun ones too. We tried one with pineapple which was super tasty. There was also one with mango which I want to try next time. The Philadelphia roll was my favorite! Ordering was super easy and it took about 10 minutes to make 3 rolls around 6pm on a Friday night, which is super fast. The cashier estimated 15 minutes. They seemed to have quite a few takeout orders and doordash orders lined up. Parking is super easy as well with plenty of spots available in the back when the front spots on Woodward fill up. read more

I was warmly greeted on the phone. I requested a carry out. I got two house salads, spicy California roll, California roll with cream cheese added, a double California roll minus the Masago, a caterpillar roll and a Kayla's special roll. I I realized after I got off the phone, that I may have ordered too much food. I'm extremely hungry and haven't eaten all day. We'll figure out a way to get it all down, somehow. All these rolls sounded so good when I ordered them. The total came out to be about $58.30. The carry out order will take about 20 minutes to pick up. As I headed out the door. I completely forgot that the unofficial Woodward dream Cruise is today. The route to get there is not direct. It's taking me on a detour to try to avoid Woodward. I was suddenly regretting ordering from here tonight, just because of this unofficial cruise going on tonight. The detour wasn't too bad in the end. It had me take some back ways and avoided Woodward completely. I parked in the back. It's located next to Floyd's barber shop, where Jimmy John's used to be if you park at the back. The back door still shows the jimmy sign on it. It's impossibly slow to navigate Woodward at all. Ended up taking me the back way and taking me through the alley to get to a parking spot. The house salads are quite big. There's somewhere between an entrée salad and a side salad, as far as size goes. The house salad wasn't bad. I do like the added avocado in there for certain, it goes well with the ginger dressing and gives the salad creamy smoothness, it doesn't typically have. The keyless special role is interesting. It's not bad. Spicy California roll is fairly tasty as is the the California roll with the added cream cheese. Then again everything is better with cream cheese, right? The caterpillar roll here is pretty good. It doesn't taste too fishy from the Unagi, which is sometimes why I shy away from ordering us. The double California roll is good and nicely executed, as is the caterpillar roll. They do a really great job of wrapping the avocado and crab or just the avocado delicately and neatly on top of the roll. read more

A+ for sure! Some times Sushi restaurants can be a little bit intimidating. This is a small take-out place. There is one 4-person table so if you don't want to eat in your car there IS a place to sit. REALLY friendly, gracious and pleasant for sure! I was just a walk-in, as I was next door at the AT&T store waiting for a phone and got hungry. :) As I'm trying to cut down on animal products for health reasons, I was surprised and happy to find LOTS of great veg choices here. I ordered a "Buddah's Harvest" roll "AAC" roll. Both were more than ample portions and tasted great. Order was up and ready quickly. I got a chance to look at all the other menu choices while I was waiting. They have a lot more than just sushi and nigiri on the menu. Some of their "Special Rolls" look like they would be fantastic. The prices are a good value for really good, fresh ingredients and well made sushi and right in line with what you'd expect. Looks like they are set up for online ordering on their website. read more

Got the chicken and steak hibachi with fried rice. The steak tastes microwaved and chicken has no flavor. Just bad ingredients and little flavor. Not to mention I paid $29 for it read more

Worst sushi i think ive ever had. The yellowtail nigiri tasted very fishy and off, and the spicy tuna roll was just terrible quality compared to the countless others I've tried. The salmon nigiri was also not fresh. They either have no clue what they're doing, or deliberately using low quality ingredients. 2/10 read more

This is definitely a place to get your sushi craving fix, they're really fast with carry out orders and I appreciate that being busy all the time. I've tried just a select few of their sushi rolls and my favorites are the fire cracker baked, spicy California, spicy salmon, volcano, and amigo loco. I get fire cracker with every order it's so good! When you get sushi and can't stop eating the pieces one after the other, that's a sign it's fresh and well made. Well done! I love this place and will continue to order my last minute dinner here! I can't wait to try more! Def recommended. read more

So I just ordered the egg, shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, shiitake, miso soup and vegan dumplings and omg everything was disappointing. The dumplings tasted the way I imagine cat food would taste. The sushi rolls didn't taste fresh, the rice crumbled apart and was not very sticky. The egg and shiitake were way too sugary sweet and the tuna tasted off. it tasted like refrigerated grocery store sushi and I specifically wanted fresh. The proprietor was super defensive and told me all about how special his rice is, but it doesn't really matter if you have special rice if you don't know how to cook it. I am not a sushi snob at all, I have very pedestrian tastes, but if you can't do the basics right how are you going to do anything right? I have always been pretty loyal to Nobel Fish, they're a little more expensive but they never disappoint. Serves me right for trying something new just because it was on the way. Needless to say I will NEVER come back here. Just disgusting and rude. read more

Maaaan, we were so bummed about this place, especially after seeing the high reviews. Maybe this review can serve a purpose for sharing what *not* to order if we happened to just order all the wrong Started with seaweed salad, which was your traditional sweaters salad. No complaints. We also ordered the spring rolls, which tasted like they were pulled from a freezer bag and warmed up. Mushy inside and not fresh. We ordered a few different rolls, but they were a little extra fishy and didn't taste fresh either. Do NOT order the fried noodle bowls. WOW. I am one of those people who my wife fondly describes as her "human garbage pit." I can eat almost anything, but I couldn't get through more than two bites of the chicken noodle bowl. The flavor was like dog food and inedible. So bad! Learn from me and maybe go for some different sushi rolls and some other apps or entrees! read more

Absolutely loved every....single... thing! We ordered takeout so apologies for the pictures. We started with the Spicy Tuna Rice Cake, yum! Definitely unique, I haven't had anything like this before. Crunchy on the outside full of spicy tuna inside and topped with eel and spicy mayo. We also had the CRS Burrito. WOW! KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK ON THIS ONE! I've been searching for a place that does a sushi burrito with a soy wrapper. Finally found it here and stuffed full of delicious crab salad, spicy tuna, shrimp tempura and avocado. Ask for a side of spicy mayo and yum yum for a little something extra. Sushi Burrito For sushi we had a spicy tuna roll that was EXTREMELY fresh and great flavor. We also had the crunchy roll and loved it too. Shrimp tempura, spicy Kani, and cucumber topped with delicious sauce and lots of crunchy bits. California Roll Sushi, where have you been all my life? I started going to the owner's fathers' restaurant many years ago. Kayla, the owner of California is an absolute gem. When she was working at her dads restaurant the food was always so fabulous. She is consistent at what she offers. Anyways- the true review... I have eaten at so many sushi places in the past few years. Although they are always good, California is my go-to. (Truth he told- I use to go to her dads place at least twice a week!) I always get the "Mimi" roll. It has everything I love!! Cream cheese, crab, yum yum sauce, and eel and it's tempura!! I feel like I'm forgetting another component but I'm not sure. I know my sushi. By far, Kayla knows what she is doing, even if you call to have custom sushi made. I have, and will continue to tell anyone near or far how much love I have for this restaurant. Kayla is my MVP! read more

I need to say this: I HATE SUSHI!!!!! I never liked seafood or the idea of it. Lately everyone around me has been craving sushi putting it in my head hmmm maybe I should give it another go. First of all: I'm vegan so luckily I can skip the fish but!!!! Most other places just have a boring avocado roll and that's all. Here stuck out they had vegan Mayo and other fun rolls. So like I said I hate sushi. This place boosted the hell out of my serotonin and the sweet potato roll is the best thing I've ever had. Very fresh. Won't lie, I came here on a basic tip because I got wind that sell a sushi burrito. They do. It's madd fly! They make it swiftly. They also give you this container of eel and spicy Mayo sauce that enhances the magic that is shrimp tempura, crab salad, rice, avocado, and wasabi wrapped in a rice paper and decorated in sesame seeds. Honestly that's the only thing I've purchased from there because it is a solid choice! They have about 40+ types of sushi on their menu and be careful when heading to the place because it is small enough to accidentally miss on your first trip but I promise you won't make the same mistake twice after you have eaten from there. My food recommendation is obvious but feel free to try some of their staple items (perhaps the roll they named their business ‍) read more

Ordered take out (delivery through GrubHub). Food came on time and was spot on. Been enjoying various rolls from different place because it's what's specific to each place. Had Signature Roll (which had pretty impressive explanation) and sweet potato tempura roll. Enjoyed both. Decent portion. Neatly rolled. The flavor combination of the Signature Roll works well so props for that. Sweet potato tempura roll has been a guilty pleasure of mine because it's carbs on carbs, BUT I never regret it ever.
