First time customer and during a pandemic. I ordered carry out because I work right down the street and wanted a quick snack. They blocked off the inside of the restaurant so when you walk in you can't go much further than 4 feet to pick up your food. I ordered 2 California rolls at about 3:30pm they told me it would take 20 minutes, I arrived early because, why not? And my food was ready in 10 minutes! It was awesome! The food was good and quick. I have no complaints! Easy and delicious! I'm looking forward to trying more!

Went there the other night as a new customer. Sushi was amazing! I got the ramen/sushi combo and both were great! Bf got two sushi rolls and he said it was one for the books. We will be going back soon for sure!

Great value and tasted fresh. Aqua painted walls inspire a feeling of exotic land by the sea.

I came in during the pandemic shut down for take out. I called my order in and they even called me to let me know it was ready! When I went in, they have basically a plastic bubble set up for customers to wait in. I paid for and got my take out all from the bubble! It was great! I got home and tried the sushi. I probably think the is the best sushi I've ever had! I'm a huge fan of this place!

I'm new to sushi so my review is less about the food and more about the experience. The food overall was good. First thing... this place is old-school Royal Oak. It's not shiny and new nor sleek and sexy like many of the other restaurants that have opened in the past five years. It's incredibly outdated and can desperately use a facelift. There was only one person working when we visited, which attributed to a very, very long dinner. Thankfully we were with friends and had nothing going on the rest of the night, except a need to run to the meter to put more money in. The menu is HUGE and convoluted to the core. There's a paper on the table you write your order on, but a lot of the things on the menu aren't on the paper order sheet, but there's also no blank space to write them in. Kinda annoying. A lot of the sushi on the menu did not have descriptions, either, which was frustrating for a newbie like me. My dining companion ordered spring rolls. It seemed to take quite a while to get them, and once she bit in, it was still frozen on the inside. She checked the second one and it had the same issue. We told the waiter, and he apologized and dropped new ones in for us. The sushi took a long time as well. Between the four of us, we had seven rolls, and by this time, more people had come in, so the single server was stretched thin. By the time we were ready to cash out, it took the server a good 15-20 minutes to give us our bill after we requested it, then another 10 to give us boxes we'd requested much earlier. Overall, I'm not sure I'd come here again. The prices are about the same as most other sushi places I've visited (give or take a buck or so) but the service was stretched way too thin and the atmosphere left much to be desired.

my friend and i have been strolling Royal Oak the pat week or so and have stepped randomly into the restaurants in the downtown area. Today we walked into Tokyo Sushi. The owner greeted us with a smile and served us with patience (as my friend embarrassingly wanted to make his order difficult) and they got both of our orders correct and fast and most importantly HOT. One thing that annoys me about most restaurants is the speed at which they refill my beverage and Tokyo Sushi was fast with that as well. All in all, it was a good meal and a nice first experience. Would recommend the Pad Thai, as that's what we both got and both enjoyed it.

I have loved Tokyo Sushi for over a year, yet I've never actually had their sushi until this last trip. We met friends here before the normal Saturday Royal Oak crowd was out so we ended up being the only patrons for about half our time there. The service is always attentive and friendly, and this time was no different. The server was kind enough to give us a bell to ring if we needed him while he went in back to prepare food and do other tasks. We never needed the bell because he was so prompt still. Edamame (8/10): Plain with salt. No garlic so not perfect, but very tasty still. Enough to share, though I believe the portion could be a bit larger for the price. Still, order size is not too small. Spring roll (7/10): Veggies packed into this deep fried roll. Two per order. When we noticed one was a bit cold inside still our server immediately made another full order for us. Very cool of him to do. Tofu Roll (8/10): Tofu was cut so thin I wasn't sure I'd like it, but that just made it even crispier! Great flavor Extra Crunch Veggie Tempura Roll (7/10): Definitely crunchy enough, lots of flavor. the pieces were huge so they kind of fell apart after the first bite (kudos if you can somehow fit that in your mouth in one bite). Avocado Roll (8/10): I've been really enjoying these simple rolls lately no matter where I go. Fresh tasting avocado with a nice touch of sesame. No worries about the seaweed on the outside of the roll (some prefer it inside the rice, I know) as there was no added fishy taste/smell. Fried Rice (9/10): This is what I normally ordered but I got it to-go this time. Would've been a 10/10 but it wasn't the pineapple fried rice I ordered (I didn't check until I was at home so not an issue they could fix this time). Still, tofu was very crispy. Rice and veggies had excellent flavor. it was also not as spicy as I asked for, but since it was so good I'm not deducting anything. Finally, I loved our server. From the earlier fixing our spring rolls to being attentive, he was also funny! Another party of four sat near us and asked "What's the difference between the 'sunrise' and 'sunset'". He immediately answered "one rises, one sets" and I burst out laughing. Go here, try the extensive menu, relax, and have a nice "old" feel that you can almost never get in Royal Oak.

Ordered take out from Tokyo Sushi after restaurants re-opened. They weren't open for dine-in, and set up their restaurant to box off the entrance with plastic where customers can stand and pay and get their food. I think they are being really smart since the virus is still spreading, even though neighboring restaurants are open for dine in! The food was pretty good! I'm a big sushi person and really enjoyed the Royal Oak roll. I always order gyoza with my sushi and I wish Tokyo Sushi's gyoza were a little warmer/softer when I got them, but other than that they were tasty! The wait was slightly longer than anticipated. Service was friendly!

left the dancing sh roll and right is triple hitter!

I liked the question "what Spicy level do you want ... (mild/medium/spicy)" for each dish. Decent sized portions and tasty food. The many and varied Pad Thai plates beckoned and we tried the omlette Pad Thai which was delicious and piping hot. Chicken Tom Yum soup and shrimp fried rice also were pleasurable. The atmosphere is really casual - the layout is more of a cafe than a formal dining room. I would definitely return and with friends.

To start, we got moo krob (deep fried pork belly) which is the Thai version of Chinese siu yook. I have to say, I like siu yook so much more - it's a lot more flavorful having been marinated with five spice and served with delicious sweet hoisin sauce for dipping. The pork here was bland and the sauce (fish sauce based) was pretty one note. For my entree, I got rad na (rice noodles with gravy, Chinese broccoli, carrots, and choice of meat - I got pork) which was one of the best I've ever had! They used fresh rice noodles and sautéed it properly to give it the "wok hei" (wok-seared flavor). The gravy was deep and flavorful and the portion size was very good. If everything else was as good as my entree, I'd give this restaurant 5 stars. Unfortunately, my mom's Kao mun gai (steamed chicken with rice and "special sauce") was awful. She asked if the dish had any spice because she can't do spicy, and the server said no, so she decided she'd try it. The chicken was way overcooked and dry, with no flavor at all. The sauce, the only thing providing flavor and moisture, was spicy so that she couldn't eat it. We asked if there was any sauce she could get instead that wasn't spicy, and they said no, but they can give us a bottle of soy sauce. So my mom used some of that, and also took some of my rad na gravy. But because the chicken was so dry and bland, it was beyond saving. My dad got the Thai basil fried rice, mild spice. It was definitely hotter than other Thai restaurants' mild, and my dad said the spice overwhelmed the other flavors. I tried some of it and it was not bad, but nothing remarkable. They told us that traditionally, it's served with the rice on the side, which was strange to me because then it's not fried rice - it's sautéed meat and veggies with rice on the side. I am curious about how some of the other dishes taste here, but it's a shame that 3/4 of the things we ordered were mediocre to downright bad. While I enjoyed my entree, I felt bad my parents didn't enjoy their food.

Far East Chinese & Thai Food is FAR OUT and double good!…read more My office ordered lunch here for me and my boss' birthday today, and not only was the restaurant easy to communicate with regarding the large order, but the food was super dope as well. I ordered the Pad See Yu, and it was stupid good. The sauce had a hint of sweetness to it, and a healthy portion of beef, shrimp, chicken and pork. I didn't feel "cheated out" on anything like many other restaurants leave you feeling on combo dishes like this (see the photo). The dumplings come in 6, and we ordered both the steamed and pan fried. I failed to procure a photo of them, but these are the old school pot stickers - thicker dough and well made. Depending upon your mood, I could suggest either the steamed or the fried, but steamed is probably my fav. The egg rolls were crunchy and were not overly oiled, which means this restaurant cares enough to change their fry oil, ensuring that the guest has a better meal, rather than trying to stretch every last drop of an oil batch. I don't remember what everyone else got, but there were no complaints from the varied dishes I DO remember - Beef & Broccoli, Shrimp Egg Foo Young, Kung Pau and more. I'll most certainly be coming to this establishment again in the near future, and couldn't recommend to you more ordering here yourself.
