    Ranchero New York Steak

This place is such a great "hidden gem" for dinner! Authentic, delicious, relatively high-end Mexican food. The last time I visited, I split the table side guacamole with friends and had the Ranchero New York Steak as my main course. The guacamole is the best in town, and the steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked. A great feature is that you can BYOB (wine and beer) -- I brought a nice bottle of wine from my cellar, which paired perfectly with my meal. Service is friendly and quick, even on a Saturday night. Not gonna lie, though -- the place could use a bit of a facelift, particularly the bathrooms. I hadn't visited in a couple of years and it's definitely starting to feel a bit tired, though it's still comfortable and enjoyable. A must-visit for sure!

What a cute and small restaurant! Me and my family were seated immediately and very well taken of. The waitress was attentive but quick with our orders, which were all delicious. I ordered fish tacos. They were overcooked , but seasoned well. My favorite was the calamari, which isn't pictured. I say order it for an appetizer. Sooo good!

El Asador is like a hidden treasure of delicious Mexican food. I was very pleased with a recent visit and will definitely return. They have a parking lot in the back and to the side of the restaurant with security. We made a reservation but it turned out it wasn't really needed. Staff were efficient and courteous. We ordered a queso fundido (gooey melty cheese with chorizo and warm tortillas for dipping) appetizer. It was delicious but could have used more tortillas - it came with three and we had a party of three. I ordered the chicken mole and it came with choice of soup or salad. I selected the salad and wow am I glad I did because the salad was an absolute star - lots of fresh ingredients, definitely a step up from your standard garden salad, and an absolutely delicious Caesar dressing. It was so good, I've been thinking about getting just a Caesar salad the next time I visit. The chicken with mole sauce was excellent and substantial. The sauce was layered with flavors and the dish came with some excellent green beans cooked with tomatoes, and seasoned rice. I had leftovers for lunch the next day. The other members of my party ordered enchiladas and chiles rellenos and were both very pleased with their meals. One tried the soup instead of the salad and they thought that was great too. Our waitress overheard that we were celebrating a birthday and she brought out a tres leches cake for dessert with a candle as a nice surprise. The tres leches cake was also excellent. El Asador is an upscale Mexican restaurant in a humble setting. We enjoyed it and hope you will too!

El Asador is a quaint spot located on Springwells, close to I75. We dined in for lunch, the service was prompt & friendly. The food was amazing! We definitely need to come back for dinner, there are many dishes that caught my eye. El Asador is perfect for an anniversary or a birthday, or even a first date. It has only 14 tables, making it exclusive and cozy. There are many seafood dishes available. The chef is well known. Be sure to check this spot out!

My colleague and I went for dinner on a Tuesday evening. We made reservations ahead of time for 6:30, and we were certainly glad we did. The place was packed...every table full. We were seated right away and greeted by our server. Then we waited...and waited...and waited...a good 30 minutes before she returned to take our order. She was friendly and pleasant, just not anywhere to be seen most of the time we were there. On to the food, which was excellent. I had the New York strip, cooked perfectly and topped with a red sauce. It came with green beans, grilled jalepenos & peppers, and refried beans. Very tasty. We finished our meal and waited again, another 30 minutes for our server to come by so we could ask for the check. Aside from the disappointing service, the food was great and moderately priced. I had heard so many great things about this restaurant that I had to try it for one of my birthday meals. I was pleased with the private parking lot which is monitored by a friendly security guard and a cute black cat. Upon entry, I was seated immediately as the Friday night crowd hadn't arrived. While waiting for my dinner companion to arrive, I chatted with the waitress who informed me that it gets really busy on weekend nights. She also explained that diners are welcome to bring their own libations to accompany their meals. There is no corking fee. The food is authentic Mexican cuisine. I ordered steak and chicken fajitas. All entrees come with two sides and a choice of salad or soup. I opted for soup, which was a creamy poblano and corn soup, potatoes and vegetables. Everything was great. My company ordered calamari which he immediately commented was light and fresh, and an appetizer dish with a variety of peppers and chorizo. He loved it all. We had a very enjoyable time. The restaurant is dark and romantic. It was quiet and inviting on my visit. A definite must-try!

We are greeted upon entering restaurant. Plates, glasses and rolled silverware are already on the table. The lighting is appropriate for the setting. The decor is traditional colors. Plates had dust on them and the glasses had finger prints on them. We didn't let that bother our meal. We just switched items. The soup was creamy and had a little kick. The salad was green and fresh with the house garlic dressing. Everyone said their meals were delicious.

There was a 2 top table at the back that we were seated at - we could have sat at the bar also - and it was a great spot. We ordered the tasting menu and WOW, every course was amazing. I'll post pics because the presentation was gorgeous for each item. They have a small cocktail and wine and beer selection, but that was fine. My son got their Shrub Mocktail and I got the Shrub with Sake. Both were delicious and so interesting. I can't pick a favorite item because they were all so good, but the Torched Mackerel and Poached Bosc Pear were tied for #1, followed by the Salmon, Oysters and the crazy good Blood Orange dessert. The shrimp toast was just ok for me, not bad, just not as good as everything else. Additionally the service was outstanding. For a tiny place they did everything right. They explained each course, brought out fresh utensils for every course - YEA! - and made sure we had good pacing. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly and enhanced our meal. I really want to come back and try the oysters and some of the tinned items. I'm so excited I found Mink and will be back for sure.

If everything is as good as what we ordered this time, I can't wait to try more! Firstly, the natural lighting in here is just fantastic, and I really like the layout - you have a bit more space than some of the other downtown restaurants, and it's fairly quiet. Nice cozy booth seating as well as chairs. The gated parking lot is also a huge plus downtown and service was absolutely excellent. We came on a Sunday to try their all day happy hour, and it did not disappoint. $2 oysters meant that we ordered 2 dozen, and while the east coast varieties tend to be our favorite, their west coast selection was also top notch. Just lovely, salty, briny fresh oysters with a great mignonette. We also both ordered dirty martinis, and they're perfect for $8. We also had the focaccia which comes with this amazing tomato pesto - it tasted like pizza concentrated into a sauce. Yum! And the focaccia is perfect - the kind of bread that makes you remember why bread is so good. Pillowy and soft inside, toasted crispy outside; an amazing app. For dinner, we had the squid ink and seafood pasta, the wild striped bass and the lamb. Everything was absolutely so delicious and perfectly cooked. They split the pasta for us, which was very nice, and I just can't get over the delicious unique flavor of that dish. Outstanding. This pasta is the kind of pasta you want to order when you go out. Lots of yummy seafood, perfectly seasoned al dente pasta, savory sauce. The bass was the most perfectly cooked piece of fish I've had in a long time - crispy skin, tender moist flesh, buttery sauce. And lastly, I was super impressed with the lamb - it was tender yet crispy on the edges, savory and satisfying. If a seafood restaurant is doing lamb this well, I've got to see what else they have to offer. Can't wait to try the tasting menu. Even hubby was impressed and had zero complaints about anything, and he's tough to please. What a gem of a restaurant.

My first impression: Noisy! Lots of hard surfaces. Difficult to hear the hostess, server and my wife. The tables were appropriately spaced for diners and servers to work with no bump & grind. We started by sharing a dozen oysters and the pear/walnuts salad. The oysters were a bit small-ish; but otherwise, excellent. Server took a drink order from my wife, but skipped me. Eh? I flagged down another server to order a Pino. It took a surprisingly long time to arrive. On the plus side, I was offered a taste to insure it was satisfactory - it was. The pear salad w/walnuts was excellent. The pears were sliced paper-thin. One of the joys of eating a properly ripened pear is the juicy explosion and thinly sliced pears defeat the juicy explosion. If the pears were fully ripe, perhaps cube them? Weirdly; the two sides (mushrooms, potatoes) were served before the entrees. The server noticed, seemed surprised and withdrew the sides, returning with our entrees (lamb shoulder, steak). Then the side returned. Both entrees were warm-ish and the sides were hot. The 14-day, dry-aged steak was ordered medium-rare and was seasoned and prepared as ordered. Again; warm-ish, not hot. I expected better beefy flavor for a dry-aged steak. One end was a bit chewy. Tenderness improved as I got to the other end of the steak. I ordered it with horseradish. I will admit to being a weirdo who loves spicy horseradish (and wasabi) that will clean the sinuses - this was "Ohio-spice'd" horseradish ... not creamy, but less spicy than Arby's Horsey sauce. The mushroom and the potato sides were served hot from the kitchen. Both were excellent, no complaints. The presentation of the steak needs improvement. It was a properly prepared, lonely lump of brown, served on a white plate with cracked ceramic glaze. The lamb shoulder was the better entree. For some reason, my wife was expecting Middle Eastern seasoning. The menu did not mention Middle Eastern seasoning and she did not ask, so that's on her, not the kitchen. I thought it was excellent. Gripe: After the entrees arrived, our server did not return to ask if the entrees were satisfactory. She did return later to ask if we wanted a second round of drinks. We did ... We were offered dessert and ordered, but never asked if we wanted coffee or an after dinner drink. Both desserts were excellent. Will we return? Probably ... not. With tip; dinner for two was $286. At this price point I expect better: Less noise, better beef and flawless service.

Starting with the maître D, carried over to both the waitress and our table server, everyone was polite, courteous, and very attentive. Looking over the list of appetizers, we went with the calamari. About 10 minutes later, it showed up and as it turned out, the portion was good for the four of us. The calamari was not rubbery, but prepared exactly how you would want it. It has a bit of a kick to it, but not so much as to be overwhelming. Before the calamari they brought us a bread basket with four types of breads for us to dip into a bowl of delicious tasting sauce. Because this was a pregaming event, we had to include a cocktail with our dinner. Two of us went with a Woodford reserve old-fashion made to perfection. There's quite a few choices of entrées to choose from and being this is a seafood restaurant I went with the servers recommendation and chose the "Dover". As part of the experience, they fillet the fish right in front of you. A nice touch. The fish was out of this world good. Flaky white meat, with enough there to fill you up. Even with the filleting experience, they did miss a bone. But that happens. No problem. With a choice of sides I went with the steamed spinach. A rather small portion, but it was very good. For the price you would've expected more. Beautiful view of the water looking over towards Canada. If ever in town again, this is a place I would return to.
