Visited this restaurant over the weekend with some friends and it was such a wonderful dinning experience. The restaurant is beautiful inside with cool vibes and great lighting and comfortable seating throughout. It was a last minute decision to do dinner here the restaurant was very accommodating getting us in for a last min reservation. The menu was definitely not what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant and was intimidating on what to order. We were very lucky to have a server who had excellent insight on the menu items and guided us in the right direction. The food was excellent but I would say for the price the portion size of some of the items was disappointing. I would go again but with the knowledge of exactly what to order. The fish and seafood dishes were the stars of the show. The muscles, the tuna tart and the snapper are well worth the visit. If seafood isnuyour jam and you are expecting traditional Mexican food this place might not be for you.

Thank you Michael for a tour of your menu!! LOVED the food and dining experience. Our favs were the whole fish and beet/fruit salad! Yah gotta have the chips and salsa. Finished the meal with tres leche cake!! The bomb! Best tres leche cake I have ever had!! The chefs are creative geniuses! Definitely make reservations! Great ambience

Really nice spot, but I just can't justify the prices... I think everything we ordered tasted good... the crudo, the tostada, pollo, pescado etc. there weren't any bad dishes... but I wasn't blown away nor full. The Tres Leches cake was in a raspberry milk, that was different and enjoyable. In all I can only recommend coming if you have money to blow, you could also pull up to the bar for drinks and the nice vibe, 4 drinks will get you to a nice little bill by themselves.

Highly recommend making a reservation. Very dim lighting and I found the atmosphere rather loud. Make sure you have a light for your table. The menu was a tad bit hard to see without the lamp. The chips & tortillas are made in house. The guacamole was perfect; topped with greens.. never had that before but I enjoyed it. The fish comes in 2 different sizes. We ordered the largest to share. It was perfectly cooked and had an amazing flavor. I love how they put 2 different sauces on each side.

I wanted so badly to really love this place but I was just...underwhelmed. Maybe my expectations were too high based on feedback I had received from other people that had been there but I was wasn't impressed, especially since it's on the costlier side. Nothing was bad. It just wasn't very memorable and I don't think the cost justifies the experience. The restaurant itself is cute and cozy, definitely giving date night vibes and the bathroom were cute as well. Parking was also a hassle since there isn't a dedicated lot or place to park. It's a really busy area and you have to fend for yourself with street parking. I definitely had to drive around for several rounds before I found someone coming out and could snag a spot a couple of blocks away. Everything combined, it's not somewhere I'd be rushing back to but that was just my experience.

This was my favorite new restaurant of 2025 in Detroit (I think also Restaurant of the Year, if I'm not mistaken). It's got an amazing interior and ambiance, incredible service, and the food is inspired and innovative. It's halal friendly, which is an added bonus. It's definitely meant for sharing, so I would recommend coming with a small group of friends to order a bunch of menu items. We ordered across the menu and shared everything as a group of 4 people. We ordered about six dishes total, with 4 of the smaller plates, one larger protein main, and a dessert. Highly recommend and can't wait to come back!

The overall vibe is good. If yelp allowed half stars I would give 3.5 because I feel the price is a bit high for the quality and level of service. Out of the dishes I tried, the pork belly and the tuna tostada were my favorite. The Papas con Rajas wasn't what I expected. I thought there would be more of a crispness to the potatoes. I really enjoyed the Strawberry Tres Leches; my partner said it was just okay.

The place is a vibe from the moment you walk through those heavy curtains. Our server Maricela was excellent and recommended the herbal spicy marg cocktail. My favorite dishes were the chicharron de pulpo and the divine tres leches with toasted coconut. Looking forward to coming back.

We've been twice now (after our first time, we booked to come back two weeks later so we could try more dishes) and Vecino is sooo good! Drinks are super interesting (I really love the "spicy margarita" which is called Picosa Verde), the El Clásico was pretty good but tasted too lime-y. You can order food at the bar also so it's an option if it's all booked up! The first time we went, we had the Sikil Pak which was only okay, it was a complex flavored dip maybe too salty (& they don't give you enough crudite) but they are happy to pack any leftovers, Tuna Tostada= delicious and the Fish=a favorite! So delicious! It's market price so yes, it can be $$$$ but you can't find anything in Michigan like it! I love Vecino! Service is excellent and the ambiance is great! I love this for Detroit!

Vecino was a great spot for a private event. The drinks were on point and I ordered a mocktail margarita that was excellent. They really took their time crafting each drink. The Mexican food was delicious and the chips and salsa were fresh and flavorful. There is a nice courtyard area in the back that is perfect for dining and fellowshipping. I will definitely be back to explore more of the menu and enjoy the full dining experience.

This is a beautiful restaurant with a great vibe. I especially appreciate the curtained vestibule to keep the cold out. A very cozy touch. The service was absolutely phenomenal - they take your coat when you arrive and hang it up for you, the seating is very comfy, the lighting and candles are really pretty, and our server was excellent. She described menu items knowledgeably and confidently recommended great cocktails and dishes. They've got the details right here, down to the exceptional water glasses. To drink, I ordered one of their non alcoholic options, and I'm so glad they have many selections to choose from. Our server was great at explaining the flavors of several to us, and I went with the phony negroni which is a sweet, red, pretty cocktail that is prepackaged. My friend ordered one of their regular cocktails, just without alcohol, and she loved it. It was made with lots of fresh citrus juice, a house made Squirt, and a spicy gummy candy stick. A very fun cocktail I will get next time. As for food, we shared the octopus dish, 2 of us ordered the duck enchiladas, and one of us ordered the talyuda with chorizo. Our favorites were definitely the enchiladas, the chorizo on the talyuda was amazing, and the octopus was cooked very well - it was tender - and we really liked the pineapple, but it needed a little salt and the spice rub was a little on the bitter side. A beautiful dish, but I think I'd try the venduras en mole next time. Overall, a good meal; the masa is the star of the show here, especially in the enchiladas. The corn has the most amazing flavor that really shines just as much as all the other delicious ingredients with it. The tomatillo sauce was absolutely delicious - smooth, almost creamy; so tangy and well-seasoned. I'd definitely return just for those enchiladas. The chorizo was also memorable - it had such a great texture and flavor. Overall, the menu is a bit sparse, but everything on it sounds interesting. The prices are also fairly high, even for downtown, but the flavors are elevated, the plating is beautiful, and the service is top-notch. Even if you just went for their chips and salsas and cocktails, it would be a nice time. A perfect date night or girls night spot.

Seriously; I had to use some napkins on the tortilla because it was just soaked in grease. Not great. I got the steak. It was very good. Tender; no chewy bites and pretty good flavor. Good portions throughout the burrito. That was the highlight along with the guac. A chunky guac done well. It was fresh and just what I was looking for. Unfortunately, half my burrito was lacking in sour cream and cheese to the point I thought they forgot about it. The second half had better portions of those items, but more cheese would've benefited this. Finally, the fries were a joke. No seasoning and no crunch provided for a very unmemorable bite. A shame. Perhaps this was an off day. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing. It was fine, but nowhere near what I was expecting. I might try this again, but need some time before I do that. Very good steak and guac. Everything else was lacking.

But, later we asked if we could take pictures of the food and we were told yes. So not the biggest deal but something to note for other reviewers. So, the tortillas from the chicken tacos were cold. The waitress kept coming back and lingering to take our order, and rush us out. She even made the comment "you guys are slow eaters." It felt very uncomfortable. We usually like to go to lunch we order appetizers (ceviche and soup), then an entree (tacos). Usually we get dessert and drinks but due to the waitress we decided to skip on these and just leave. We were sat upstairs so I guess she didn't like to keep going up and down. However no one else was dining in at the time so I'm not sure what the rush was. The waitress even made the comment that she was the owners sister in law. She came up to me and asked me if I was his neighbor and stated my last name and asked if I was related to another restaurant owner. She took my phone number at the beginning, I'm not sure why there was no wait. So I am unsure if that's how she got my name because I didn't give it to her. Which was just uneasy to me. As others have mentioned, seating is somewhat limited, but that only adds to the excellent service and intimate experience. I wish I remembered the names of our server and the manager because they were incredibly kind, accommodating, and helpful throughout the evening. One example of the thoughtful service: I was torn between two white wines, and since my partner ordered one of them, our server offered to bring a small sample of the other so I could compare and choose what I liked best. We also mentioned that we had never tried caviar before but didn't want to commit to a larger portion. They suggested a "bump" for $5 each, walked us through how to enjoy it properly (on the hand, letting it warm slightly), and made the experience feel fun and approachable. We were seated at the bar, which gave us the opportunity to chat more with the server and manager and watch the team prepare dishes for other tables. It genuinely felt like sitting at the chef's table. We both opted for the tasting menu, which changes from time to time, and we were very happy with the selection. We also added the lobster roll, and our server thoughtfully timed it so we could enjoy it alongside the warmer course. The meal began with two different oysters, one topped with caviar, giving us another chance to enjoy it. Next was the shrimp cocktail, which included wasabi--but not in an overpowering way. The flavor was present yet balanced, allowing everything else to shine. The escargot course was especially creative and delicious, paired with basil oil, pepper jelly, and hints of balsamic. While it might sound unusual, the flavors blended beautifully. I expected the pepper jelly to dominate, but it was surprisingly subtle. Next was the potato pavé served with a scallop. The textures were remarkably similar, and the scallop was cooked perfectly. The lobster roll was very good, though I personally found the bread a bit denser than I prefer--I usually like a more buttery, Texas-toast style--but my partner loved it. The turbot followed, accompanied by a chestnut beurre blanc that was incredibly silky and flavorful. It paired wonderfully with the king trumpet mushrooms, black truffle and the fish. The final tasting course was the petit fours: three small cakes--matcha, red velvet, and ginger molasses. They were slightly dense, but still a nice way to end the meal. We also added the house-made basil ice cream (because the basil oil earlier was so good), and that was an excellent decision. Although my birthday had been a few months earlier, once the staff heard we were using a birthday gift card, they surprised me with vanilla ice cream, sprinkles, and a candle--such a thoughtful and unexpected touch. They also treated us to a small glass of dessert wine. By the end of the night, we knew we had found our new favorite place to celebrate. The overall experience is absolutely worth the price point, and I only wish more places were like Mink. We can't wait to return.
