Baru was really nice!! From the amazing variety of cocktails to the delicious starters and entrees, my friends and I enjoyed ourselves from start to finish. Service was awesome and the waitress did a good job explaining all of the ingredients and portion sizes. The ambiance was really nice and inspired by the islands. I look forward to going back!

My wife and I came here for Valentines Day and it was a really cool space. We ordered the oysters and yellowtail crudo as starters, both of which were incredible. I ordered the short rib as my main and my wife ordered the grilled whole seabass. I really enjoyed the short rib and loved that they came with plantains and brussel sprouts. The seabass was also packed with flavor. We finished with the tres leches bread pudding, and it definitely delivered. The service was great, especially on a busy night. Definitely recommend for a date night and there's a cool speakeasy underneath as well!

A group of about 15 of us gathered for brunch here on Super Bowl Sunday. My friend whose birthday it was spoke to the owner or manager before we came in so we were expecting a great experience. Almost everyone got a bottomless drink and they kept refilling the same cup. After so many refills we would have to request new cups. We were not aware of the charge for condiments for the tacos that were very bland. Most of the table complained about the food and left still hungry. We were given the wrong food or it just wasn't made right. They should go back to the drawing board for brunch and really train the staff for it. I would say that maybe brunch isn't their strong suit but they are a great place for lunch or dinner.

Came here to Baru for happy hour on a Friday -- happy hour runs until 7 PM, which is great. They have an awesome selection with $12 cocktails and $8 apps. I really enjoyed my drink. I ordered the empanadas; they were okay, but not my favorite. I absolutely loved the décor and atmosphere -- super cute. The wait staff was great, too. Overall, I'd definitely come back!

Tried this fairly new eatery (kiddie corner to Fixins') w my mom on a Sunday afternoon. Perfect weather to sit outside with a slight breeze. I can appreciate the fairly spread out arrangement of chairs, couches, and tables. The patio is lower with lots of things to look at all-around. I don't drink, so I can't speak for that, but I did try the chicken empanadas, guacamole, and sliders. They serve brunch till 3PM and were out of the avocado toast - good sign. Food did not take long, with surprisingly filling portions that seemed small at first. Everything was hot and crisp. I like that there were trees surrounding the patio as this helps with sun beating down on the tables without umbrellas. Service was awesome and he recommended a few things, no physical menu just yet, but staff are obviously working out the kinks of recently opening. I would definitely return here on a nice afternoon/evening for a few shareable places and ambiance! I can't wait to see what their lunch is like and how they manage with more of a crowd. The music was nice, too!

My tacos sadly were a 6/7

Baru is beautiful! The attention to detail is very impressive. No expense was spared to create a great space! I wasn't the biggest fan of my fare. The salsa wasn't winning,, my shrimp taco was a 6/7 but my husband says his short ribs were amazing.

The service and ambiance were superb. We went during the summer so the outside doorstep were completely open. It reminded me of being in Miami. The food was really good and it's also right on the strip with other bars in the area so you can barhop!

Bright vibe-beautiful mural in main dining room. Pride themselves on providing fresh ingredients. Limited vegetarian choices -out of the watermelon salad. Dean, our server was very personable and attentive. Very small portions of food. One small slider with a side of french fries $18-never was presented with one slider. Very delicious corn tortilla chips, but provided one small bowl for the order of guacamole. Requested a second bowl and charged us $2. Accommodating to my vegetarian guest and prepared vegetable tacos: two very small tacos for $16 (see photo).

We went to the soft opening a couple of weeks ago. I have been so busy that I haven't had a chance to review. We got to Baru right when they opened and managed to secure a spot at the bar. Within an hour this place was hopping. The bartender made drink suggestions and we were both very happy with our choices. We then asked for food recommendations and the fish tacos came highly recommended. We got the fish tacos and watermelon salad. Both were delicious. The ambiance was what really got me though. It is a beautiful location. I was sad that the speakeasy wasn't ready, but that just gives us an excuse to come back! Check it out.

At first glance this place is really cute, we were able to get bar seating without a wait. The staff is friendly and eager to please. I had the lamb chops with garlic mashed potatoes and broccolini, it was delicious 10/10. My sister had the slider with fries and it was equally amazing ( I tasted it). For our drinks we had the gilded peach, although they were out of fruit it was delicious.

You could definitely tell they recently opened and still have some things to work out. I'm so happy to have another restaurant added back to Harmonie Park and to see outside cocktailing!! The service was great, staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We followed the recommendations of the server for our drinks and wing choice. So the food was great and the drinks did not disappoint at all. Now you could tell that things are still getting ironed out when I received a dish twice ( tuna nachos) and the bill took about 15 minutes to come after it was requested -ended up with a free shot of tequila. I'm curious to see what they do in the winter and if they will expand. It definitely gives Miami was the inspo for the interior and the 20% service charge was definitely giving Miami . Cute and I would return again.

Soft opening. Gabbi was wonderful as I got a tour upon walking in and letting her know I was a local. Reso on open table needed. The bartenders have no idea where anything is and still learning the ways and sways of the restaurant. Also, they have belts on with suspenders. Low key hate that. Outside had a complete facelift. Opens early on the weekends and dog friendly, beautiful!! Ordered two apps. No real napkins or extra plates were provided: we went through 20 bar napkins but these are soft opening-figure-it-out-moments. Our empty plates were cleared almost immediately. This was appreciated. The food was fresh and delicious. The chef is out of Birmingham and cooks to his background. Very focused and thoughtful menu. Everyone is beyond excited and proud. For Baru to be open. I spoke with Mel and he was very proud, happy, and informational. The music isn't loud. It's comfortable to bring a date or a friend. You can dress up or dress down here. The vibe is chill but more dress up- if you visit. Parking is valet. Z lot or good luck on street. The drinks weren't strong for 18 a pop but Miguel was absolutely wonderful and made corrections. I will add everyone is good looking. And the bartender was too busy talking so he did forget the food and the short ribs took forever. Would come back. I encourage everyone to try and come support, everyone was excited for the opening once dissolved hopefully the small details work themselves out bc I think we all can agree that's what's matters the most, Doris approved 8/10

So many cool photo ops in this place- this one is located downstairs by the restrooms.

Nate and I stopped in on our most recent visit to Detroit and had a lovely experience. The space is tucked away but had a surprising amount of outdoor space--we were there in January but I'd love to come back in the summer. We were greeted right away and given a spot near the bar. The menu includes cocktails, lots of wine, and several tasty food options. It was quite busy inside, so it took a bit of time for our server to come over to us, but we weren't in a rush. They had ten cocktails on their list and I tried the bullet proof soul and Nate got the negroni alla perra. The ingredients list for some of the cocktails include things I've never heard of, but at a place like this, I just know it's going to be good. Our drinks were perfectly balanced and very tasty. We also ordered the mortadella sandwich to split--this was delicious. It was pretty messy, but worth it. It was perfectly toasted and full of mortadella. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and I would love to try more of the food options. Can't wait to visit again!

There were friendly patrons all around and we chatted with other bar admirers. We checked out the coffee shop, Warda, but didn't purchase anything then, but have had several of their desserts since then and they did not disappoint. The atmosphere is wonderful, indoor/outdoor bar, great outside seating - not sure how this will work in the winter? They also have very pretty stone paths with multicolor stones mixed in for a very peaceful beautiful look. It inspired me to add some multicolored stones to my garden! I can't wait to return.

Downtown Detroit definitely feels different now, and the crowd has shifted a bit, but none of that took away from what The Standby is. That alleyway magic is still there. Walking in honestly felt like a little blast from the past, and it made me really happy. It ended up being a highlight of my trip home. The food was phenomenal. The crab was so buttery, the waffle situation was amazing, and the overall execution across the menu was impressive. We ordered a lot, basically half the menu and everything hit. * Short rib plate: delicious, rich, and comforting * Chicken schnitzel with curry mustard: WOW. Juicy, crunchy, fresh, perfectly seasoned. The curry mustard was everything, and that little pepper on top? 10/10. This was hands down my favorite dish. * Drinks: They had brand ambassadors for Wild Turkey, giving out free Old Fashioneds, which was honestly the perfect touch. We also had a small ounce pour of a mezcal that was beautifully smoked, super aromatic and smoky in the best way. Service was great too, we had two different servers, and both were attentive and kind. The only miss for me personally was the pastrami salmon toast. I wanted to love it so badly because I love salmon and I love smoked fish, but it just wasn't for me. I actually sent it back (which I felt bad about). I think the slight sweetness, (possibly from the tomato jam)threw it off for my palate. I was craving something fully savory with a bit of acidity. I think a thicker, crunchier toast and a more umami-forward, citrusy or pickled element might have taken it where it needed to go. That said, I know pastrami-style salmon is a thing right now, it just didn't work for me. Everything else? Truly amazing. The Standby will forever be a place I come back to when I'm home. I'm excited to return, see what's new on the menu, and relive that magic again. Highly recommend. 10 out of 10. Will absolutely be back.

Between the two of us we had the beet salad, burger and steak tartare. Burger was good, but not the best smash burger that I've had. Beet salad was fine, however the cream cheese was a bit overpowering against the orange oil. It was dying for some citrus. Steak tartare was a bit dry, meaning that a small dab of olive oil would have added to the richness and overall mouth feel. I did not really taste the egg although I did see a dab of yolk on the tartare. Needed a bit of salt also to enhance the taste Menu was small, but it did cover a cross section of French bistro dishes. All in all, I thought it was a bit overpriced. So I will have to consider returning for a full meal. I would come back for a burger and beer at the bar.
