I appreciated an article written about the dress code and fine dining attitudes of this establishment. I purchased gift cards during Covid to help support local restaurants during shut down, and I was pleasantly surprised that we could still use them in 2026! We had tried to use them in 2022, but were told the restaurant was small and could not accommodate our party of 8, even early on a Sunday. Fast forward 4 years! We made a reservation for a party of 4. It would've been nice to know the restaurant was on the second floor with no elevator, but perhaps that is my lack of inquiry. We were warmly greeted. Our server was absolutely fantastic! She made wonderful recommendations, and our meal was delicious! We had the crab dip, cornbread muffins, fried chicken and catfish entrees with yams and collard greens. Our family is from the South (KY, NC, TN, VA, MS, & AL) and we cook southern food on a regular basis. The yams were perfectly cooked and sweetened. The collard greens had just enough density, not runny or too salty. YUM!!! The chicken was tasty and moist. Catfish was seasoned and prepared perfectly and absolutely delicious also. Served with Frank's! We finished it off with the skillet cookie dessert, shared by all. A great way to end a really wonderful meal. The restaurant wasn't busy, so food service could've been a little faster, but we enjoyed a leisurely early dinner. My only other comment is that with glass top tables, you almost have to use Windex when tables turn over. The water streaks on all the glass top just make it look more like a greasy spoon or diner and does not do justice to the great service or the quality of the food. I don't usually do catfish at home, so we will be back for more!
Visited on a Sunday evening for dinner. Highly recommend reservations as it was very crowded. Dark, dimly lit but lively atmosphere. Very date night vibes. I ordered the shrimp and grit and collard greens. The food was fantastic. The shrimp and grits were so flavorful, warm and delicious as well as the collard greens. However I do notice that the restaurant was dirty. My appetizer plate has dried food on it (thankful I don't need it), the table wasn't the cleanest and my silverware had a hair in it when I unrolled it. The table was also a glass top and my dish that was glass was sliding all over the place when I was trying to cut from it. They automatically add 20% gratuity which takes them down a Star in my opinion. 3.5 stars, rounded down for cleanliness unfortunately. The food is very good, but they could use some improvements.
This was my 2nd time here n as usual it didn't disappoint but in 1 area!! But we'll get to that!! The ambience was good but it was crowded, so we decided to order everything at once! We ordered a Kale Salad (really good) didn't get the pic cuz we was hungry then into the main course: my son has the Times Square Lamb (which should of been cooked medium but wasn't) but he still enjoyed them, he also had the Cheddar Risotto I had something I never tried b4 at my son n the bar tender's suggestion I had The Whole Red Snapper n then had the Vanilla Crème Brulee for desert (no pic of that either) but it was delicious! We will be back but it was very busy so we sat at the bar n enjoyed 2 drinks each
So we were here when it first opened back on June 8, 2016 (photo of me, my now wife and our cousin), now we're here again 9 years later ( just me and my wife this time) and let me tell you the food and service is on point. We need to continue to support our local black businesses in the City of Deteoit and everywhere. The dry rub wings were very flavorful and the catfish fritters are cooked to perfection. My wife ordered the 24 Hour Lamb Rack which was amazing and I had the Whole Red Snapper. Our server was kind enough to bring out a bigger one as the first one looked like a kids meal. Asante was perfectly suited to serve us and provide a home like setting during our visit. Thank you for all that you suggested and provided. It was amazing. If you have not been here, make sure to come on out and support.."U won't be disappointed!!!"
SavannahBlue came really highly recommended from different forums online as well as from reviews, and I definitely see why! With this in mind, my first recommendation is to make sure, regardless of which day and time you're planning on dining - make sure you have a reservation! And if you have a reservation during peak time, be prepared to have to wait a little before being seated. Now on to the fun stuff - the FOOD & DRINKS!!! Everything we ordered was delicious, seasoned to perfection and presented well. Overall, we were all really impressed with everything we ordered. I had the SB Jerk Burger, and asked for it to be light with the jerk - and it literally came out absolutely superbly seasoned and cooked medium as I had asked! I tried the Mac and Cheese that my father-in-law ordered, the Catfish fritters and the Kale Caesar & it was all 10/10!! The drinks were also really delicious. The ambience in the restaurant definitely gives grown and sexy vibes. There's a grand piano in one of the main dining spaces, which leads me to believe that they have live music on particular nights - which I'm sure would elevate the entire dining experience.
I came here 8 years ago for my birthday and I remembered it being so much better than what I experienced and Im disappointed. Where do I start, the service was extremely slow, we barely saw our server and this type of establishment the gratuity is included which is the issue the issue that service is typically not matched with the amount of gratuity you have to pay. My guest ordered a mocktail lavender lemonade it came in this small glass for $14 and it tasted average. For this to be an upscale soul food place it doesn't even include a cornbread I have never been to a social food place that dinner include cornbread. I wanted to order one to enjoy with my meal but the only option is to order a basket for $3 my guest wasn't eating. It was a rip off for one person, i didn't need that many for me. I ordered the catfish which is was pretty good hot and fresh but that's where it stopped the greens and fries were cold. The Mac and cheese was missing something but at least that was hot. I'm very disappointed that the food and service was nothing liked I experienced in the past.
Good food, great service and loud but lively atmosphere. We had our first experience at SavannahBlue this evening. Loyale was our server and she was delightful. We started with the side Caesar ( note: it is Kale) and the Cherry Green salad, with homemade cherry vinaigrette. Delicious. Neither salad was cold, which was a misstep. We asked that these be brought out first and unfortunately our entrees arrived before we could finish the salads, a big no, no. The ox tail was "fall off the bone" good and the shrimp and grits were tasty and plentiful. Both entrees were hot. A few notes: no valet parking There are 2 sets of stairs to climb to get to the hostess stand and this area is tiny. The dress code is enforced If you want great soul food give them a try.

Visited while in town with friends for a quick weekend trip. The hostess was very nice and our party was seated very quickly. The music was extremely loud, making it difficult to have conversation. The tables were also really close together. At one point as the songs were transitioning, we could hear the kitchen staff arguing about tickets. Our waitress wasn't very attentive and we had to keep flagging her down to order food or ask questions. From a food standpoint, the catfish nuggets were great; however, that was the highlight of the dining experience. The oxtails were severely overcooked and we had to send that back. The catfish entree had a different seasoning and flavor from the nuggets that was very underwhelming. The salmon dish was swimming in sauce and not pleasant to eat. We left disappointed as we had heard such great things about the restaurant. If we decide to go again, it would be during the weekday when they're not as busy.

The wait staff was knowledgeable of the items and very friendly. I will plan on coming back.
$9 for fries. Not truffle fries or anything special they made in house but just regular fries. The burger was meh I've had it before and it was really good! My aunt got us a gift card so I'm going to use it. Service was cool. Ambiance was not $16 for a burger and no frites to go with it. My partner enjoyed his meal and I'm happy with that.
Spectacular! I had a large party and they accommodated us at the last minute. Shout out to Miss Lisa for making it happen. The real star was the food!!!! The hot sauce was ridic. The fried catfish, yams, greens, fried chicken, dark maple hot wings and anything that hit the table was exceptionally tasty. With classic tastes like grandma used to make, but with that extra touch of love. Inside the dining area was super clean and upbeat. Gorgeous artwork and a speakeasy type vibe. Met chef Aisha and she was wonderfully sweet. So were Miss Lisa and Brandy. Huge shout out to brandy as she was the mixologist. That Mr Bowie was the best! read more

OMG- I lived in the metro- Detroit area for 15 years and never turned on this street ever. I wanted to try a restaurant that I had not been to and saw this one on FB and decided to do something different. I have never been so disappointed in a restaurant before. First, the restaurant is up two flights of steps and there is no elevator. I injured my knee and walked up the stairs. Second, when I was seated and shown the menu, I was shocked at the very limited options. They only offer white- meat chicken, no rice or plain sides. I was going to try the greens but the server said they put vinegar on them which I don't care for. The Brussels sprouts with corn is a hard pass. I had no other choice but ordered something that I would never put together as a meal: fried catfish, sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts with corn. The fish was fried hard and needed seasoning and the sprouts were forgettable. They brought out hot sauce on the side assuming all people want hot/ spicy food. I wanted tartar sauce and they didn't have a traditional sauce- they had a " Cajun- style sauce." My friend had a crab cake for $25. When I called about parking, the hostess mentioned the cash lot behind the restaurant and.a parking structure across the street. She didn't mention that it was extremely expensive, I paid $24.49 for 1 hour and 6 minutes in the structure. Oh, I almost forgot that they added a 20% gratuity automatically for a party of 2! So, overall, my catfish dinner, 1 crab cake appetizer, and $2 up charge for the Brussels brought my bill to $74. Plus, the $24.49 for parking was a $100 night with no liquor only to have to leave and go eat elsewhere as what I wasted money on left me hungry and unsatisfied for sure. read more

Found this spot thanks to Yelp... Thank you! Located behind the Detroit City Apartments. Reservations recommended, but there is first come, first serve bar seating. We were greeted downstairs before heading home the stairs to the restaurant. Intimate setting. Super cute since it's decorated for Christmas. We started with cocktails - Smokey Robinson and Ida B. Wells. Love the names and the cocktails were yummy. We started with the warm crab dip with crispy wontons. The perfect start to our meal. For dinner, my husband for the seared salmon with shrimp jambalaya and I got the shrimp and grits. The flavors were on point! If you love NOLA, this gave us the food from the city we love. Complimentary cornbread muffins come with dinner too. Those ended up in my belly before I could take a picture. We were too full for dessert, but the bread pudding was recommended. Just means we have to come back soon! Everything was sooo good. read more

It was a slow night, so there was one waitress working the room. The food exceeded my expectations. The Lamb chops were the best I've had in the city, and it wasn't close! The sides were good we had the catfish, yams and greens everything was delicious. I've come here in the past years ago but this was miles above. 10/10!! Good music and vibes as well. read more

I wanted to love thos place but unfortunately it was a miss for the most part. The wait to be seat even though we had a reservation was about 20 plus minute with no waiting area as about 5 different parties were all crowded on the staircase. I was excited when the food finally arrived at the table but unfortunately the fish was over friend and dried our. They took 25% off but the fish itself was not edible, which was the most expensive this on the plate. I will say our waitress was amazing which is why I didn't make a fuss about it. I enjoyed my food! I had the whole red snapper and it has a mustard sauce on top that reminded me of the fried fish with mustard my grandfather used to give me when I was a kid. Good food that brought up good memories! read more
Came here for a work dinner, and it was truly an amazing meal! My coworkers had really been hyping it up, but it exceeded my expectations. The starters were what really blew me away -- every item was such a hit. We got the Crab Dip, Hummus, and Roasted Cauliflower and they were incredible. The Crap Dip is an absolute must-order dish! As for entrees, I opted for the Catfish Plate. The catfish was delicious and perfectly crispy, and I really enjoyed both the collared greens and sweet potatoes. They did not skimp on the portions! The restaurant is a bit more upscale and chic but still as a down-to-earth quality to it. It's actually a very large space, though we sat at a larger table near the bar. I've been wanting to visit SavannahBlue for too long and finally made it today! We walked from Detroit Opera House in a drizzle, totally worth it!! Absolutely delicious dinner with enough for leftovers! They provided cornbread muffins with honey that were delicious!! We both got fried chicken that came with collard greens with ham and candied yams better than I've ever had at any Thanksgiving!! Friend wanted black eyed peas we shared some of it with her taking that home too!!! We arrived about 5p and first table but, over an hour later the place was packed. This place is special and already look forward to going back to try the next item-unless it's time for more fried chicken!!! read more

Really a 4.5. Upstairs location is very nice with the feeling of a jazz club. Please honor their dress code. Very southern vibe to the menu. We waited much longer than expected for our food. We go there just after open and it seemed like the kitchen was not quite ready. Once we got our food it was AMAZING. Spiced perfectly, great portion sizes and interesting flavor combinations. All in all it was a lovely evening. read more

This place will always hold a special place in my heart. My grandmother who's in her 80s doesn't have much of an appetite but everytime I bring her here she eats almost all her food. The food is absolutely amazing, I personally love the oxtails but the catfish is my grandma's favorite. The ambiance is get for all occasions, whether date night or a girls night. The service was good it did seem to not be many servers but our every need was met and I have no complaints. The bread pudding was a good ending to our meal, though more dessert options would be amazing. read more

Love this place! I came here with some girlfriends and we started with drinks at the bar. The drinks were so good (and strong). I got the ida b wells and I loved how balanced it was. Our bartender was great. Super personable and definitely made the night better. I ordered the jerk burger and truffle fries and wow they were so flavorful! The burger was a bit messy but wow I would definitely recommend. The way the dining area and bar are set up make the space very intimate and great for small groups or a date night. I loved the music too. This is definitely somewhere I would take people from out of town. read more
The feel of the building is low key and chill. They are located up stairs. There is a doorman that greets you when you walk in. Once you enter made it to the second level you are greeted by the server who can assist with your reservations. There is an older crowd although there was a mix when I attended. Good music. Great food. I was here for a date night and the scene was nice and romantic. The music is urban. And the staff was amazing. read more
