From the moment you walk in, you know you are in for a treat! For a first timer, it doesn't get any better. I loved everything about this place! It's cute but cozy, with plush seating aside from the bar. The bar has it all. And the bartender John made some of the best cocktails I've had! Everyone we came in contact with was really nice and welcoming. For the food, I now know where the best burger is, and it's not even in the menu! No burger will ever compare! And you have to have the lyonnaise potatoes with it. They melt in your mouth. Honestly, I don't think I'll ever be able to go and not get the burger! We're already planning our return & I can't wait!

Duck confit cassoulet

My wife and I were in Detroit for a long weekend and decided to have dinner at Bar Pigalle. We are fans of French food. Our server was very nice and was thorough in explaining the menu. The dining room is intimate and nicely decorated. For dinner, I had the duck confit cassoulet. The duck was very tender with a nice, crispy skin. The cassoulet was chock full of bacon. My wife had artichoke gnocchi. I tried the gnocchi and it was very fluffy! For dessert we shared a creme brulee, and some apricot and saffron sorbet. I really enjoyed the sorbet. If you're looking for a nice French restaurant in downtown Detroit, you should definitely visit Bar Pigalle.

Upon entering the music is nice r&b, the servers are amazing a d supper attentive. I had a regular old fashioned and a late checkout which was amazing 10/10. For food I had the fries and 1/2 roasted chicken which was delicious 10/10. Will definitely return

This place was amazing I had never been here or heard about it but I'm so glad I was able to try it out the ambiance was amazing the food & service were excellent they offered complimentary gated parking across the street. The only negative was the Gnoki was sold out, I was w my vegetarian friend so this was really the only option they had for entrees not good and they ran out kinda of a turn off. It's obviously good but to not have it we were highly disappointed.

Best restaurant I've been to in Detroit in a long time!! The food was all super tasty - every dish was truly good. We ordered several apps and not one of them was disappointing. The steak entree was also excellent. Our service was great and the overall space was quite nice too. Top of my Detroit restaurant list.

So this restaurant is kind of hidden, almost like a speakeasy. Its inside a building that looks residual. Luckily we saw the huge doors with the restaurant name above it and that's when knew we made it. Once inside, we were seated in no time in this beautiful teal booth. The interior is very warm and cozy. Looking at the cocktail menu, I absolutely had to try the 'home by dark'... and it was such a great choice that I ordered another one before entrees were served. For appetizer we ordered the steak tartar. I usually love tartar, but this one was not a top contender for me. But I will say the sardines on top gave it the saltiness it was lacking. For entrees we got the black tiger prawns and the mussels. Everything was cooked great, I just personally think French cuisine is not for me. The unique flavor just isn't for my palate. Or maybe I should've got the duck and had better luck. As for dessert, the watermelon lime sorbet was yummy.

Made a reservation two months ago for my aunts birthday. Called twice and spoke to a person for 45 minutes. Party of 15 showed up to a locked door. Ive eaten here before. The food is not good enough to chance being treated like that.

We were really looking forward to visiting Bar Pigalle, as most of the things we've heard have been excellent. Unfortunately, the meal was disappointing across the board. I don't mind paying for bread service, but it better be good. At $8, the bread was not warm and instead of regular butter, it came with an unusual Korean-inspired compound butter. The whole thing was salty and weird. I really enjoy steak tartare, and was eager to try theirs. It was fine, but nothing special. We wanted to get the lyonnaise potatoes, but were told it would be impossible to order them without onions. Instead, we got the hand cut frites which come with malt vinegar aioli. When we asked to substitute it with a garlic aioli, the waitress replied: "Chef said no." The steak frites were fine, but at $69, pretty underwhelming. The first bite of the roasted half chicken was dry, but got better after that. At $250, the meal just wasn't very good. On the plus side, the service was good, the vibe is great and it was very busy while we were there. Maybe we're the weird ones.

This is a 3.5 star review. Ryan was our server and he and his colleagues rock! The bright spots on the menu that over-achieved: - Duck confit - Prawns - Beet salad - Fries The just-okay items; but probably would not order again: - Oysters; plenty fresh and tasty, just small - Rusty nail cocktail is one of my favs, but this one was off. The under-achievers: - Steak frites. Perfectly cooked medium rare, but insufficiently tender, not tough, and lacked beefy flavor and any hint of seasoning. Dry-ish. This was a substantive disappointment. Chef Norm is a master of flavors and seasonings. When I inquired if he was in the kitchen tonite, I was told, "No." Sigh ... - Parking lot was overflowing and others were parking crazily, blocking others in. Will I return? Perhaps.

This cozy, extremely cutely decorated spot is excellent. We were in town visiting and staying downtown and happened upon it for a spot to have dinner. The servers are super friendly and patient. We started off with cocktails (both alcoholic and NA). They were delightful and well balanced. We started with the bread course which comes with an incredible compound butter that has just the right amount of garlic. Both the beet salad and petit salad are quite nice. I opted for the sea bass. Friends got duck confit and mussels. For dessert we got a poached pear with miso ice cream. This was not too sweet and a perfect way to end the meal.

Restaurant

Really beautiful, classy, upscale chic French "bar." I had the Steak Frites and my husband had the trout - both were excellent. I had mentioned in our reservation that my husband tries to avoid dairy and I am sensitive to gluten... and they thoughtfully prepared menus for us in advance. As in other French restaurants I have seen, the tables are much too close together. That is one thing I strongly dislike, but thankfully we were on an end and had nobody next to us until the last third of our meal. The music vibe is new-agey club, which is not my favorite honestly but it worked with the venue. Service was excellent. Ambiance and food were great. Free parking across the street. It was a great dinner!

Some of the best cocktails and ambiance around the area. Great service with knowledgable staff. Fries are fire...

From top to bottom, their menu is superb. And it gets a ton of praise, but in my opinion, it's the best burger in metro Detroit.

They charge $10 per person to make reservation. Does charge come off the invoice? Does reservation…

It gets refunded to you after. I kind of like it this way because then people don't have to pay you back if you made the reservation for a group.

Nate and I stopped in on our most recent visit to Detroit and had a lovely experience. The space is tucked away but had a surprising amount of outdoor space--we were there in January but I'd love to come back in the summer. We were greeted right away and given a spot near the bar. The menu includes cocktails, lots of wine, and several tasty food options. It was quite busy inside, so it took a bit of time for our server to come over to us, but we weren't in a rush. They had ten cocktails on their list and I tried the bullet proof soul and Nate got the negroni alla perra. The ingredients list for some of the cocktails include things I've never heard of, but at a place like this, I just know it's going to be good. Our drinks were perfectly balanced and very tasty. We also ordered the mortadella sandwich to split--this was delicious. It was pretty messy, but worth it. It was perfectly toasted and full of mortadella. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and I would love to try more of the food options. Can't wait to visit again!

There were friendly patrons all around and we chatted with other bar admirers. We checked out the coffee shop, Warda, but didn't purchase anything then, but have had several of their desserts since then and they did not disappoint. The atmosphere is wonderful, indoor/outdoor bar, great outside seating - not sure how this will work in the winter? They also have very pretty stone paths with multicolor stones mixed in for a very peaceful beautiful look. It inspired me to add some multicolored stones to my garden! I can't wait to return.

Downtown Detroit definitely feels different now, and the crowd has shifted a bit, but none of that took away from what The Standby is. That alleyway magic is still there. Walking in honestly felt like a little blast from the past, and it made me really happy. It ended up being a highlight of my trip home. The food was phenomenal. The crab was so buttery, the waffle situation was amazing, and the overall execution across the menu was impressive. We ordered a lot, basically half the menu and everything hit. * Short rib plate: delicious, rich, and comforting * Chicken schnitzel with curry mustard: WOW. Juicy, crunchy, fresh, perfectly seasoned. The curry mustard was everything, and that little pepper on top? 10/10. This was hands down my favorite dish. * Drinks: They had brand ambassadors for Wild Turkey, giving out free Old Fashioneds, which was honestly the perfect touch. We also had a small ounce pour of a mezcal that was beautifully smoked, super aromatic and smoky in the best way. Service was great too, we had two different servers, and both were attentive and kind. The only miss for me personally was the pastrami salmon toast. I wanted to love it so badly because I love salmon and I love smoked fish, but it just wasn't for me. I actually sent it back (which I felt bad about). I think the slight sweetness, (possibly from the tomato jam)threw it off for my palate. I was craving something fully savory with a bit of acidity. I think a thicker, crunchier toast and a more umami-forward, citrusy or pickled element might have taken it where it needed to go. That said, I know pastrami-style salmon is a thing right now, it just didn't work for me. Everything else? Truly amazing. The Standby will forever be a place I come back to when I'm home. I'm excited to return, see what's new on the menu, and relive that magic again. Highly recommend. 10 out of 10. Will absolutely be back.

So then we decided on round two of cocktails the plate of chips, avocado toast and another round of pork belly! Again, divine. Although I will admit, everything got dipped into the pork belly sauce. Was tempted to do a round three to try the highly recommended lobster rolls but decided to save something for the next visit because there will be one. They executed all the small plates exceptionally well. And the cocktails were top quality! Only complaint was the seats are very low to the ground. I'm short and my legs were aching. I can only imagine how uncomfortable those with normal legs feel after dining. BTW my daughter and her friends had a wonderful birthday celebration but ended up leaving us adults there because we were having such a good time!
