We came here for a dinner date and I was so excited that my partner made the reservations ahead of time. I quickly glanced at the menu before we went to see what the menu was like. Within 3 second I k ew I would love anything I ordered. We were seated at our table quickly and we ordered an espresso martini and a l'envers cocktail. Both were unreal! I really enjoyed the flavors of the l'envers cocktail. We ordered some great appetizers and wow - flavor overload. We had the shrimp cocktail, escargots and the wild mushroom tart. The wild mushroom tart was my favorite. The flavors sent me back to France. We ate all the appetizers and our main entrees came out. I ordered the lapin and pasta - the rabbit was perfectly cooked and the flavors and items non the plate was insanely delicious. This is now one of my top 3 restaurants in Detroit.

Go here almost every time I'm in Detroit for work with colleagues. We love the atmosphere, the food, the drinks, and the service.

Amazingggg service. I wish I remembered our servers name but she was so kind and attentive, she really added to the experience for us! As for the food, the burger was surprisingly one of the best burgers i've had. I love a good cheeseburger, and theirs looked good but to be honest I didn't expect it to be my favorite dish just because it's a french place but wow they make a VERY good burger and the french fries were also to die for. The profiteroles for dessert hit the spot. Perfect amount of sweetness, not too sweet and the chocolate sauce was great. Overall great experience, ambiance and food. I would definitely come back and recommend others to try this place too!

The ambiance is unmatched! Truly feels like a little French restaurant. It was bigger/louder than I expected but all the details of the restaurant were perfect. Dinner was beyond delicious, portions were small but filling. Service was great! Couldn't recommend this place more! They even gave us desert wine for my husbands birthday!

Why 4 stars? Because we had a solid overall experience here. --- --- --- As part of an annual trip my friend and I take every year, we always end up finding one place to splurge on steaks. Detroit was an interesting city for this, in that there seemed to be hardly any actual, traditional steakhouses. A lot of places would have a steak or two on the menu, with a bunch of other entrees, usually with some sides you don't typically find at a steakhouse. Lots of beets. But we eventually settled on Le Supreme - they had a filet and steak frites on the menu and that was enough to pull the trigger. I ordered said filet and thought it was a perfectly 4-star steak. Certainly enjoyable, but not one I'd be screaming from the Michigan mountaintops about. I did really enjoy the pommes frites that came alongside it. And our server, Myron, was about as charismatic as a person could be. This ended up being a great place to catch up with my old Detroit area resident friend and his wife that I'd never met.

We've visited Le Suprême a few times now and are definitely fans. The vibes are great, and the food even better. The wild mushroom tart is a highlight from the hors d'oeuvres menu, and this last time I went all out with the côte de beouf and wasn't disappointed, it was amazing! I'll only say that speed and preparation aren't always a virtue. We showed up for our reservation and had to wait ~20 minutes, not awful but not ideal. And both visits we've experienced the service to be on the slow side. Overall a great option for dining, we'll definitely be back.

In Detroit for a visit and followed son's suggestion for Le Supreme for a brunch spot. It was spot on and worth the little bit of a wait to get in. It has an old world charm to it, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. My son also suggested (almost insisted) I have the french onion soup. He knows I love a good one, so I took the advice. It was AMAZING. Not just good. I'm so very happy I had it. It truly is a meal in itself -- rich deep broth and cheeses and onions and bread -- every ingredient was intertwined and delicious. Spouse had the croque madame, son had the lyonnaise salad and son's partner had the white fish salad. We all savored each selection. We will return someday and will have to try out some of the spectacular things on the dinner menu.

Everything we ate was perfect. The French cuisine and attention to details made us feel like we flew to France for dinner. The ambiance is romantic and lovely. Our service was amazing. I want to say her name was Sierra maybe. We will absolutely be back, and I'm so happy we picked here for our anniversary. My boyfriend and I have been on easily over 100 dates by now lol we've been together for 7 years. We both agreed this was like in one of our top 10 dates of all time.

*Updated review Detroit is a French city, and Le Supreme is a really lovely French bistro. It's one of the very few restaurants in the States that actually feels as though you have stepped into a Paris cafe. This was my third visit since they opened, and first time for brunch. We had a small group for a friends birthday. Raven was our outstanding server, she was friendly and took good care of us. I also loved that we were seated at the back corner table, it was a late brunch, we had space and a nice view of the restaurant. The one complaint I've had on previous visits, is some of the tables are a bit tight (though also true to Paris). We started with several appetizers to share: the pastry basket, oysters, cheese plate, (and my selection) the mushroom tart. I have had the tart before based on others reviews, it's not an item I would have thought to order. But it's amazing, and every friend that has tried it was also positively surprised. Incredibly flaky, rich and creamy, I recommend. The oysters were good, I like that they do have mignonette not enough paces do, but not the best I've had in the area. We all shared bites of the pastries: chocolate, regular croissant, banana bread, lemon, and a blueberry muffin. It was all good, I did ask for butter, as their butter is amazing, and it just makes the banana bread and muffin. One friend ordered the French onion soup and the burger, another the pancakes, and two of us had the steak frites. The fries are the shoe string version, great balance between crisp and potato. My steak came true to order, perfect medium, but with such a good sear. We all agreed everything was fantastic, no missteps here. Our only misstep was we were too full for dessert!

Ham and brie sandwich... just all right for me

Great service, lovely place. One of my husband's favorites. I think I may be challenging with French food. The butternut squash soup was FANTASTIC. One of the best things I've eaten in the last year. The cocktails were great and the tartar was good. The jamon and brie sandwich and the escargot were a bit bland for me. That said, we enjoy it here and will be back (with focused ordering!)

Perfectly located downtown with safe parking. My wife and I have twice dined in the beautiful decorated restaurant. The service of the staff was friendly and very helpful. Our waitress and waiter were both exceptional. The bread and food were delicious! After dinner I recommend going to the rooftop for the scenic views and after dinner drinks. Your server will give you easy directions through the interior back exit.

Deviled eggs and wild mushroom tart with croissant.
    Cassandra B.

I came here for brunch with a friend. The atmosphere is bright and inviting with plenty of light from the big windows. The deviled eggs were delicious and perfectly cooked. The bacon added a layer of texture and saltiness. We also had the wild mushroom tart. It was savory and the tart was flaky and fresh. I had the burger du maison. Unfortunately, it was extremely greasy and messy. I couldn't finish it because the bun was falling apart. The manager was nice enough to comp the burger, which was nice of her. I would definitely return when I visit Detroit again!

    Kelly B.

First of all this restaurant is so cute inside. The decor is great. Service was good. I would get the deviled eggs- they were so tasty. Had the filet en crout and honestly it was so worth it. It's a special just on Fridays. Perfectly cooked filet wrapped in bronzed puff pastry. Like it's so expensive but for a special night out I would DEFINITELY recommend it.

Do they have anything gluten-free on the dinner menu?

I'm not sure about gluten free, but they were very helpful with my dairy and nut allergies. They check with the chef if you have any allergies. I imagine you'd be fine with a few of the entrees and starters, but probably not safe for celiacs.

Nate and I stopped in on our most recent visit to Detroit and had a lovely experience. The space is tucked away but had a surprising amount of outdoor space--we were there in January but I'd love to come back in the summer. We were greeted right away and given a spot near the bar. The menu includes cocktails, lots of wine, and several tasty food options. It was quite busy inside, so it took a bit of time for our server to come over to us, but we weren't in a rush. They had ten cocktails on their list and I tried the bullet proof soul and Nate got the negroni alla perra. The ingredients list for some of the cocktails include things I've never heard of, but at a place like this, I just know it's going to be good. Our drinks were perfectly balanced and very tasty. We also ordered the mortadella sandwich to split--this was delicious. It was pretty messy, but worth it. It was perfectly toasted and full of mortadella. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and I would love to try more of the food options. Can't wait to visit again!

Downtown Detroit definitely feels different now, and the crowd has shifted a bit, but none of that took away from what The Standby is. That alleyway magic is still there. Walking in honestly felt like a little blast from the past, and it made me really happy. It ended up being a highlight of my trip home. The food was phenomenal. The crab was so buttery, the waffle situation was amazing, and the overall execution across the menu was impressive. We ordered a lot, basically half the menu and everything hit. * Short rib plate: delicious, rich, and comforting * Chicken schnitzel with curry mustard: WOW. Juicy, crunchy, fresh, perfectly seasoned. The curry mustard was everything, and that little pepper on top? 10/10. This was hands down my favorite dish. * Drinks: They had brand ambassadors for Wild Turkey, giving out free Old Fashioneds, which was honestly the perfect touch. We also had a small ounce pour of a mezcal that was beautifully smoked, super aromatic and smoky in the best way. Service was great too, we had two different servers, and both were attentive and kind. The only miss for me personally was the pastrami salmon toast. I wanted to love it so badly because I love salmon and I love smoked fish, but it just wasn't for me. I actually sent it back (which I felt bad about). I think the slight sweetness, (possibly from the tomato jam)threw it off for my palate. I was craving something fully savory with a bit of acidity. I think a thicker, crunchier toast and a more umami-forward, citrusy or pickled element might have taken it where it needed to go. That said, I know pastrami-style salmon is a thing right now, it just didn't work for me. Everything else? Truly amazing. The Standby will forever be a place I come back to when I'm home. I'm excited to return, see what's new on the menu, and relive that magic again. Highly recommend. 10 out of 10. Will absolutely be back.

Between the two of us we had the beet salad, burger and steak tartare. Burger was good, but not the best smash burger that I've had. Beet salad was fine, however the cream cheese was a bit overpowering against the orange oil. It was dying for some citrus. Steak tartare was a bit dry, meaning that a small dab of olive oil would have added to the richness and overall mouth feel. I did not really taste the egg although I did see a dab of yolk on the tartare. Needed a bit of salt also to enhance the taste Menu was small, but it did cover a cross section of French bistro dishes. All in all, I thought it was a bit overpriced.
