We were a fivesome and always hesitant to bring young kids out with us but this place exceeded our expectations and even held on to a baby bottle that we left at our table. I had high hopes for the chicken, but it fell flat. I ordered the drumsticks. Almost zero crisp to the coating was disappointing. Additionally, it needed a bit more seasoning. It was fine. It was not bad at all. It just didn't stand out and I wanted some crisp. I also tried the chicken sandwich. This was a bit better, but again, the chicken was the worst part. Six of us arrived right at opening time with a reservation and were met with amazing hospitality right away. The host was so nice and accommodating to give us just the right table that suited one of us who uses a cane to get around. Zoey soon appeared to provide exceptional service. We ordered grits, the seasonal Shrimp Poboy, Burnt Ends, Kale salads, fried chicken and cocktails. Everything was AMAZING. Kale is really nothing to get excited about, but this salad was fire! So, so good just like a Neil Diamond song. The grits were very tasty as well. The vibe is very positive here with a charming ambiance. Quick find close to our hotel in heart of Detroit. So glad this meal was everything a very hungry gal needed! The chicken sandwich with and order of fries was handed over freshly made, hot! The piece of chicken was plump, juicy, crunchy and bursting with such seasoned flavor! I typically need more spread on a sandwich but ther was more than enough spicy mayo with the slaw that meshed well. The slaw wasn't no ordinary topping either.. spice no tang! First A friend of ours is Moving and a few of us "ladies" wanted a " gonna miss You " dinner. Actually girls night out....Eagles was the ONLY Restaurant in Downtown Detroit that was willing to offer private seating and... ( this is HUGE) give individual checks. That worth 10 s alone. The way staff was Welcoming, Travis and personally steps in to let Yiu know You are important. I actually liked the food here. I recommend the chicken sandwich (the basic one not the one with bacon) but ask for a side of the sauce that comes on the other one. I also enjoyed the biscuits. Yummy! Don't recommend the cheese grits. They're not bad but don't taste like true southern grits. They have a bit of tangyness. I would go back. Holy moly this food is incredible. We ordered 1/4 chicken-dark meat, spoon bread, collards, and shrimp and grits. Where do I start-the chicken was so well seasoned and when hot honey is added it is out of this world. The shrimp and grits were savory and spicy and a bite of collards cuts through the richness and adds freshness to the spread. The spoon bread was absolutely incredible as well. Stopped in here last night and had heard such great things about it. We had a reservation and were sat quickly. Unfortunately, our drinks took about 20 minutes (2 lemonades) to get to our table and our appetizers came out at different times. The hush puppies were fresh and hot. Once we got our entrees, one of the appetizers came out with it but majority of the food was cold. I got the chicken sandwich, which was probably the best meal out of everyone's. For the sides: -Mac and cheese lacked flavor -The biscuits were thick, which was nice -The fries were cold Our server was nice, which helped the other issues. The service was good but I can't say I loved the food. The place is conveniently located on Woodward so you can grab a bite to eat before you head out to any event going on downtown. They are a sister restaurant to Bakersfield's, which is located across the street just down one block. I inhaled my food only because I was starving. The chicken is chicken and the Mac and cheese is plain noodles with a cheese sauce spread ontop with some bread crumbs. I came here during happy hour. It was empty so I easily grabbed a seat at the bar. The bartender was attentive and helpful. It's a spacious place with plenty of seating and TVs to catch any game you'd like to watch. The Eagle. To start this review of this pure, elegant and masterpiece-deserved establishment, we have to direct the downright awful hypocritical Karens and "Michaels". You foos. That's why you don't stay in them streets too long so you don't inhale what the streets are smoking because apparently they be messing you up in the head. Our waiter, the sweetheart she is, was one of the most kind and loving waiters I have ever experienced. She really added to the vibe of Southern antics and culture. AND THE FOOD. After not eating for 8 hours and stopping here was an experience. The chicken, the lemonade, the HOT HONEY, even the pickles were perfect. AND PLEASE BUY THE HUSH PUPPIES. Our whole party tried these first and it all brought us to tears. Please go even if you have plans to enter an establishment such as HopCat or McDonalds. You are disgusting. Was reached out by the restaurant after my first experience didn't go that well and they generously comped my friend's and I's meal! We ordered SO much: fried chicken BLT, fried chicken, southern chopped salad, spoonbread, collard greens, fries, and homemade biscuits. We stumbled upon The Eagle because we were fleeing downtown Detroit due to a concert at Ford Field. I really didn't want more fried food but the kids were getting restless. We walked in without a reservation and thank goodness they had seating for us. Menu was based around fried chicken with many great sides. We ordered a half bird with collards, sweet potatoes, hush puppies and shrimp & grits. A few bourbon cocktails to start and we were ready to dig in. Our kids loved the puppies, grits and chicken. We all enjoyed the chicken and I really loved the collard greens. The sweet potatoes with the caramelized marshmallows was like a dessert. The chicken was so moist with a light flavourful breading and the hot honey added additional complexity to the chicken. Food was fantastic, service from Tristen was amazing - only downside was the music was a bit loud. But then again it was an upscale bar geared towards a different crowd maybe without kids. I came here with a large group. There's no private area, but they were able to accommodate with a large table near the bar. The servers were attentive and handled us well. Blackberry lemonade - This is the non alcoholic version. It came garnished with a slice of lemon. It tasted like Minute Maid lemonade with their blackberry jam added. Pretty delicious! Spicy chicken dip - This came with tortilla chips which were oversalted. The chicken was pulled in chunky shreds which made it easy to scoop. There was a nice heat, although I am weenie when it comes to spice and so I suspect most people would find it very mild. The blue cheese was not very noticeable so don't let it scare you away if you tend to not be a fan of pungency. Pimento cheese plate -  This came with a whole sleeve of Ritz crackers. The pimento cheese is better than a standard dip from a grocery store, but it's more processed. The blackberry jam is the same one that comes with their biscuits, and is delicious on the crackers. I didn't try any of the pickles. Hush puppies - They come 6 to an order. They're fried to a nice crunch to the outside, and the inside is studded with pieces of vegetables inside. There's enough seasoning and moisture to not need the comeback sauce. Definitely a favorite! Fried chicken - I have had their fried chicken before in a previous visit and was underwhelmed as the chicken was soggy. This time was better, but the chicken wasn't fried to a hard crunch like you would find at a chain fried chicken place. The breading has a lighter touch and doesn't crisp up as much. The chicken inside is moist and tender with a brined flavor. Fried chicken BLT - They use boneless chicken breast, but in contrast to their bone in fried chicken, it was drier on the inside. The outside does have generous breading that was crunchy. The bacon in the sandwich was cut into pieces so it's evenly distributed with every bite and it was well rendered-no soggy bacon here! There's generous slices of tomato, and the avocado relish and spicy mayo serve to adhere the mixed greens to the bread of the sandwich. I did think it was on the salty side. White cheddar grits - These were smooth and creamy, with a rich cheesy flavor. The pickled peppers add a nice kick to cut the richness of the dairy. I would get this again. Shrimp and grits - The same white cheddar grits serve as the base of this dish, but it's topped with more items. There's a lot going on- the blackened shrimp compete with the andouille sausage and gravy. All of the components were delicious but it seems unbalanced since each component had a strong, heavy flavor. Mac and cheese - The cavatappi noodles are slightly past al dente, which are the perfect texture for the cheese sauce to cling on. I would get this again. It's creamy and so flavorful. Spoonbread - For the uninitiated, it has the same core ingredients as cornbread but in different proportions so that the final product has a soft, rather than crumbly, texture so that it's served and eaten with a spoon. This preparation is tender and finely textured without pieces of corn kernels. It's fairly sweet due to the maple butter. The inside is fluffy and there's a slight crust on the bottom from the cast iron which gives it a good textural variation. Coleslaw - Standard coleslaw with the usual ingredients. It's not very tart and slightly underdressed. The pungent cruciferous vegetable flavor really comes through. Succotash - A great rendition with an improvement - the addition of bacon. Everything was tender. No complaints here. Collards - Tender with small pieces of bacon. There is no hint of bitterness at all, and there were no stringy pieces. There is excellent flavor from the pork. This is one of the best collard greens I've ever had.  Sweet potato crock - Smooth and tender mashed sweet potato meets a top layer of mini marshmallows that's been torched. I couldn't detect the addition of any spices, which really puts the spotlight on the torched, crisp marshmallows on top. It's unfortunate that the fried chicken offerings are lacking, but the sides steal the show. I found myself eating a lot of the sides while ignoring the fried chicken and the fried chicken BLT. read more

I'm a big fan of The Eagle, and this was my fourth time there - I've been twice at its flagship location in Cincinnati, and this was my second time at the Detroit location, although the first time was comped as an influencer. This time we were there for their "Days of Giving" promotion, which was also very generous of them. We had four of us and the restaurant let us order two "snacks" (appetizers) for the table, one entree each, and one side each. We ended up ordering four entrees and SIX sides, and I saw on the receipt later they had comped all of them, which was very nice. Drinks were at our cost. I tried the Bourbon Punch this time, instead of my usual Blackberry Lemonade, and it was huge and very good. We ordered the Pimento cheese plate to share and the hush puppies. The hush puppies were great; I'm not a big Pimento fan so I didn't try that, but I DID try the pickled green beans, which were interesting ... I like pickled foods in general. I had the 5-piece drumsticks ($12; reasonably priced) for my main course and ordered the mashed sweet potato. I love the mini marshmallows on top but I do find it odd that they put (cooked) peppers and other things in the marshmallow. We also split the spoonbread (delicious), biscuits with jam and honey butter (also tasty, but I recommend the Southerner in Saugatuck, on the west side of the state, for their honey butter biscuits), collard greens, mac and cheese, and a few other sides. The reason I am deducting one star is for the waitstaff - our waitress only had two tables, but the other one was apparently a large party (about 8 to 10 people), and I think she only checked on us like three times max. This left us waiting on water/soda refills; I drink a good amount of water and my fiance had to share some of his water with me at one point, since we were still waiting. She did apologize for the wait but only near the end of the meal. That being said, the Eagle's chicken is phenomenal, so I will definitely be back at some point. It's only like a 5- to 10-minute walk from Little Caesars Arena, too, if you are attending a show there. We found street parking this time and it was only about $2 for two hours, also - it's on the North side of the building, off of Woodward. read more

All the food was really good: the spicy chicken dip had a good kick and the blue cheese added an interesting flavor, the pulled pork was tender and juicy, the Carolina gold sauce that came with it was tart, the BLT was delicious very crunchy and great ingredients, the honey cornbread stole the show- it had a layer of corn at the bottom and almost tasted like a pancake or griddle cake! I was not impressed with the food, but it's suitable as a fancier dining option off Woodward Avenue. I ordered chicken, mashed potatoes, fries, hush puppies, biscuits, and grilled cheese. A lot of the food wasn't consumed and ended up being thrown out. When I tried the chicken, I was thinking there were a dozen other places with better and crispier chicken at half the price. My friend thought the chicken was too tough and the biscuits were too hard. The best dishes were the grilled chicken and the jam that comes with the biscuits. Nothing else stood out for me. The service seemed friendly. They forgot a drink with my order, and when I returned about ten minutes later, I was given a refund for the drink. read more

The Eagle has super convenient online ordering. So we ordered a bunch of stuff for pick up and brought it home. The size of the menu isn't crazy large, but I don't think that's bad thing. They've got a focus on Southern comfort style food and they execute it well. We got a good variety of sides: - Shrimp & grits - Mac & cheese - Horseradish mashed potatoes - Collard greens I would say all of them were very good. Yes, even the collards. Some of the people with me were not into the collards but I think that was a them problem and not any fault of the actual collards. I stand by opinion that collards go perfectly with fried chicken and the ones here are no exception. As for the fried chicken itself, it's also super good. There's a good amount of spice in the batter however there wasn't much of a crisp, but this may be because we got it to go and it sad in a covered bucket for too long. As for the meat, I'm more of a fan of dark meat but the white meat was not bad. It was pretty juicy and it seemed like the chicken is brined. Met up family here for dinner around Christmas time. When we went to the bar to wait for the rest of our group the bartender did not greet us for a while but eventually came over. Once we were sat, our server was nice and helpful. The chicken was juicy and pretty good, although I wish it was a little more crunchy. Not sure if it was just because we were ordering for 10 people. The chicken can be on the spicier side but I enjoy that and really like their hot honey on top. Also the first time I have tasted oregano in the breading which was different but not bad. The hush puppies were probably some of the best I have had. Usually they are dry and bland but I really like theirs. The mac and cheese was very creamy and cheesy. Although my uncles on the other side of the table was on the dryer side so it seemed to be hit or miss. The burnt ends were also a good way to start. The Eagle was a splendid decision right before enjoying a DSO matinee, IYKYK! We were greeted warmly for our late afternoon reservation, which didn't appear to be necessary as only a few other patrons were dining at that time. Overall the food was great! We elected for the half chicken with greens, spooncake and mashed potatoes for our main course. As an appetizer we selected the pickled green beans. Here's how the rate: Green beans: 5/10, I'm sure those who enjoy sweet or bread and butter pickles can appreciate these more than we did. We each ate one and left the rest on the table. Spooncake: 8/10, a must have, super delicious and the texture from top to bottom is great. Chicken and hot honey: 10/10, this is probably the best restaurant fried chicken we've had. From the seasoning, to the crispness, to the juices! Excellent! The hot honey is a nice accompaniment and even went well on other items to jazz them up a bit. Greens: 7/10, they were just ok. BIL wanted to come here after a Tigers game for some fried chicken. Was a group of 5 of us and we got seated quickly. Our server was over quickly and brought us waters while we were figuring out drinks, which was much appreciated after the walk there. We all ordered various things and everyone was generally happy. The 9 year old was raving about the fries, to the point of trying to convince her parents to get another order to take home. 3 of us split a pitcher of the bourbon punch and that was delicious. My one big complaint were the salads. I got the summer chopped and my BIL got another one. Both came pre-dressed and neither of us could finish the salads because the dressing was just overwhelming. I generally get salads because I really, truly enjoy them. But having every single bite coated in ranch, a weirdly sweet ranch, was just really off-putting. I ate some of it because I was just that hungry but it was really disappointing. My BIL had the same issue with his salad. Just downright drowning in dressing. I typically stay away from chain restaurants, but I was very impressed with the eagle. The interior was pretty plain, but they do have a lot of available seating and a prime location on woodward. Our waitress was amazing and provided so many recommendations, you could tell she loved the food which got us excited for our meal. We shared a whole chicken and ordered nearly every side. The fried chicken was so juicy and well seasoned. For sides we got spoonbread, fries, sweet potatoes, mac n cheese, collard greens, and shrimp and grits. The spoonbread (corn bread) was so good and the crispy edges from the skillet were amazing. I was also surprised by how good the fries were, I really liked the seasoning they used. This place was interesting right off Woodward In Detroit. My son ,family and I stopped here for dinner . We ordered the chicken blt. My son ordered the grill cheese with a lemonade . I ordered the southern chopped salad with fried chicken breast chopped up on top and I must say it was delicious I also ordered the spicy chicken dip it was tasty to me but very spicy .
