Was looking for a breakfast spot the other day, and Google led me to Effin Egg. I know the area well, but had never seen it for some reason. A gem was in view without realizing it. Upon entry, I knew I made the right decision. I was greeted immediately after entering. I was happily surprised to see the number of food and beverage options available as I waited to place my order. While waiting for my order, I even noticed the cleanliness and how the staff interacted with their regular customers. Everything I ordered was delicious. The brisket and queso effin grits though were !!! I was able to briefly chat with the owner's sister before leaving and promised to share a review. I will definitely be visiting again now that I know about them. read more

I haven't physically visited Effin Egg. However, I did order breakfast via Doordash. The order was made quickly, therefore arriving to me prior to the approximate time stated. I ordered the OG, bacon, eggs and cheese on a soft bun, and naked tots-- cause I'm basically a Plain Jane when it comes to food. Both items were hot fresh and delicious. The thick cut bacon on the OG was the standout. The eatery uses quality ingredients...the sandwich was effin good! I plan to stop by in-person soon. read more

Nice cozy little establishment, friendly service. The food was just ok. The chicken was hard, the eggs and sauce was the best part, the tater tots were OK. The honey bun latte could use some improvement as well. I ordered 2; one tasted like water, the other tasted like milk and sugar... The grits were not as comforting and creamy as described. I'd suggest maybe cooking them a bit longer and slower to get rid of that super grainy texture. I feel like I should blame Yankees catcher Austin Wells and his burrito rankings during the 2025 baseball season for my recent breakfast burrito cravings... leading to me ordering from Effin Egg on a whim after having a craving one morning. It wasn't just a breakfast burrito in my order, but a honey bun latte and a couple other items (to split with my travel buddy) as well. Unfortunately, the side of thick cut bacon that came with my takeout order was pretty much burnt... womp womp. While the honey bun latte was quite tasty, I also found the steak & eggs burrito that I ordered to be lacking some flavor. I had asked for a couple sauces on the side (because I wanted to taste the burrito on its own first), but I found myself using up the sauces pretty much entirely after finding that the burrito itself was lacking flavor. And while the effy sauce was supposed to be a spicy mayo-base sauce, I just didn't get any spice... and that's saying something, because my tastebuds are delicate little things. Service was pleasant enough, though I only wandered in to get my takeout order and head back to the hotel. Small-ish inside and covers the basics. It's a nice option to be able to order from a kiosk/station and not necessarily have to talk to anyone (let's be honest... we all have those days where we don't want to talk to anyone! Haha). TL;DR If I'm ever traveling through Detroit again, I might go back and try some other menu items. That said, what I did try most recently was pretty "meh", and there are plenty of other options around Detroit to try out a good breakfast. read more

This spot! So. So. Good. Effin Egg had welcome-back-to-Aunties-house vibes. You're be welcomed by the modern, comfy atmosphere. You can expect to order at the counter with friendly staff (who have fantastic recommendations by the way) then find a seat until your order is called out for pickup. I tried the Nashville Hot as a burrito. Super delicious with that salsa verde. My daughter enjoyed the Jax Sausage and Egg sandwich on the GF bun. (Yay they have that!!) She liked it so much she thought about ordering a second one. If you're local, please try it out. Worth your time for sure!! ALSOOOOOO, consider donating towards their giving board. Literally my favorite breakfast spot in Detroit! I will always recommend it to people. I had the burrito this time and it was super flavorful and filling. I've also tried the breakfast bowl before, and that was just as good. Honestly, you can't go wrong at Effin Egg, everything I've had has been delicious. The restaurant itself was charming and fun. I loved the seating along the window. The food was priced reasonably and was very good. They were out of GF buns when we went, but we were able to order a bowl (normally comes as a wrap) on their electronic order board easily. The food took a little while to come out. But it was worth the wait and the restaurant did a great job keeping all the orders coming out in the order of people arriving. They appeared to get a lot of online orders considering all the people that came in from Door Dash and other food carriers. That means we need to come back and try more dishes! This was my first time here. I came for brunch and I liked that you can order at a kiosk. The food took about 10-15 min to come out and I sat inside. There isn't much seating inside as it's a pretty small. I ordered the mama burrito with vegan chorizo and it was pretty good but My boyfriend ordered the Javier burrito and I really liked that one! we also ordered the donut balls and they were soooo extremely sweet that they weren't enjoyable sadly. I've visited this place about 3 times and it is consistent. I've gotten the "side chic" , a chicken sammich, and a few other things. Disclaimer: this review considers that the place just opened and there are signage forewarning customers that everyone is in training. I was very excited to try this place when I seen it was replacing Treat Dreams. One random lunch run I seen they were finally open and I went to peek! The interior was well spaced to offer dining in and there was a separate kiosk from register so that people can order without interaction as an option. The biggest wow factor for me was they have this thing called a "giving wall" where people can pay it forward with up to a $10 order and post it on the wall and, after registering with the employee, a customer can "take" from the wall and redeem it once per week! The food itself was tasty and what to expect for a breakfast sandwich and THEY HAVE GLUTEN FREE AND VEGAN OPTIONS. Now for the concerns... 1) Cost...in my opinion, the food is pricey for breakfast and I have the same complaint with their downtown competitor but this is different. At this place, the breakfast sandwiches with just egg and "The OG" (egg sandwich....with Bacon!) is the same price. Imagine not taking to that or you just want egg and cheese and it's all the same price. That's not fair. 2) presentation...the OG was pretty fully looking. Tasted great but as you can see from the photo the food isn't made instagram ready and for enough people, that matter. Again, they are still in the training phase during this review so ultimately this is just for transparency. I would go back. I also predict that my rating will increase when the establishment gets their bearings. I'm very optimistic about this spot and hope they stay a while. Not everyone can squeeze into downtown for an "eggy" sandwich. But there is free parking opportunities to this place and their biggest gimmick is "breakfast all effin day" so give them a shot! read more

Came in on a Sunday afternoon. The staff was bickering at each other in front of everyone. Ordered the Brisket sandwich, one of the most expensive sandwiches on the menu. You would think the cooks would know an egg comes in the sandwich since the restaurant is named Effin Egg. I asked the staff where my missing egg was and they complained about fixing their error. Needless to say I requested a refund immediately. This place is a joke, and the joke is on you if you pay for that BS! read more

First off the waffle fantastic. As someone who is from the south I know a good waffle as we have Waffle House everywhere. This is almost just like it. The fried chicken on the waffle. Fantastic just a tad overcooked but great flavor. The bacon amazing. The hashbrowns they need some work. They were undercooked and need some oil so you can get a good crisp on them. the indoor atmosphere was nice, however, our food took an HOUR to get to us after ordering some of the simplest things on the menu. the food was in plastic containers with plastic utensils and plastic cups. we had to remind the workers to make one of our drinks 3 times until they finally got it to us after 40 minutes. all of our food was extremely soggy and had little to no flavor. only came into detroit for two days to have a short getaway and had wanted to come to this place since i saw it. i was excited about it all night, then woke up and looked forward to it only to be extremely disappointed. read more
