My husband and I came in for breakfast on a Wednesday and the restaurant was decently busy! We ordered huevos rancheros, voodoo Benedict and the Cinnamon bun pancakes with cream cheese frosting. Food was very good, portions were big and service was quick!

Drunkin Teddy

My wonderful girlfriend Val brought me to Hudson Café for my birthday, and wow--what a great choice! The inside is clean, modern, and super inviting. Now, when I go to brunch, I can never just order one thing, lol. So we went all in: the Bacon Jam Omelette, two orders of the Strawberry Shortcake French Toast, and cheese grits. For drinks, we both tried the Drunkin Teddy. Let's start with that omelette... absolutely incredible. Perfectly cooked, and the flavors of the bacon, cheese, and habanero jam were something completely new for me--unique, delicious, and something I'd happily eat again (and again). Val has been to Hudson Café before and always orders the Mexican Omelette, and even she said this one is her new favorite. That's saying something! The French toast? Oh man. Total treat. I thought it might be too much, but it was actually perfectly balanced--not overly sweet, with just the right mix of fruit and dessert vibes. Very much enjoyed. The cheese grits were solid, though not over the top. I couldn't finish them at the table, but they were good enough to take home for later. As for the Drunkin Teddy, breakfast cocktails aren't usually my first pick, but it sounded interesting, so we gave it a shot. It definitely has a kick--strong for me, but to be fair, it was before 5 p.m., lol. Still tasty and paired well with the food. Overall, I'll definitely be returning... and I'm already thinking about that omelette!

Bacon jam omelette with pancakes

I was in Detroit for the weekend and Yelp helped me identify The Hudson Cafe as a place to grab brunch. Per the reviews, on the weekends it's best to make a reservation so that is what I did, and I am glad as I didn't have to wait and I was seated immediately. Julius was my server and he was charming, cool, and knowledgeable! He suggested I order the bacon jam omelette. I also ordered a mimosa. My meal came and wow--it was a huge portion! It came with the omelette, breakfast potatoes, and two pancakes! The bacon jam omelette was surprisingly delicious! It was savory and sweet. It was way too much food for me to eat it all but I did my best! If in Detroit, check out Hudson Cafe!

Florentine Benedict with Cheesy Grits $15.00

The service here was really wonderful. We opted to sit at the small bar and the bartender was happy to offer suggestions and chat with us. We shared the Florentine Benedict with Cheesy Grits. The grits were the star, which is such a strange thing to say. Everything was fresh and hot. I'd return here for a delicious meal in a heartbeat.

The Traditional w/ house potatoes, scrambled eggs, ham, and buttermilk pancakes

I dropped in for a quick breakfast before a day at a conference. I arrived minutes after opening and there were already a handful of tables occupied. My only option was to sit at the bar. The server was nice enough, but was also trying to enjoy her breakfast between serving. I ordered the traditional with house potatoes, eggs, ham, and pancakes. The pancakes were soft and a little sugary, the eggs were cooked well, and the ham was juicy. I wasn't a fan of the potatoes. They were cooked fine, probably fried, but they were tasteless. I ate my leftovers during my lunch break and most of the food held its texture and taste, except for the potatoes. They were like leftover fries - soggy with no flavor. The food is really good here, just stay away from the breakfast potatoes. If I return to Detroit for another business trip, that'll be my game plan.

The moment we walked into the restaurant, we realized how important it is to have a reservation because they were PACKED! So, my main recommendation is to make a reservation, and to make sure you get there on time/slightly early. There isn't a lot of standing room inside the restaurant to wait to be seated, so don't arrive super early. Also, you WON'T be seated until your entire party arrives, so make sure your chronically late friends gets there on time, or you'll be forced to stand aside until they arrive. We were seated inside the restaurant but saw there were some outdoor seating available as well. The inside is lively with conversations and people. I think the restaurant is well lit and creates an energetic and bright environment - just what you need with your morning coffee. We had a wonderful and fun waitress. She made the ordering process very smooth and easy. We also felt like we received our food very quickly - or maybe we were deep into conversation and that made time pass by quickly. The food was delicious and very filling. My partner mentioned that the Huevos Rancheros was really good, spicy, and large enough for him to have some for later! And, I enjoyed my traditional breakfast with cheesy grits. The flavors worked so well, and the highlight of my plate was the cheesy grits

The Hudson Cafe in Downtown Detroit

Reservations are recommended for The Hudson Cafe located in Downtown Detroit near the former location of the famous Hudson store. I'm thankful we had reservations for our party of ten. We were seated right away although the restaurant was bustling for a Friday morning. Even some DPD staff were taking timeout for a good breakfast/lunch. The restaurant is pretty large and accommodating for our large party. They also have patio dining available on the sidewalk of Woodward Avenue for a view of the bustling downtown area. The food was great! No one in our party ordered the same meal. We had tons of food on our table. I had the plain french toast, bacon and a caramel latte. The warm syrup decanter and plenty of butter made it way more than just plain. Tip: Park in the Metroplis garage. You scan for your validation at the hostess station for 3 hours of free parking with the parking garage just south of restaurant and around the corner. Note: If you plan to visit other businesses, you will forfeit your validation after the 3 hours. Although other businesses offer validation, Metropolis garage does not allow stacking of validations. So park accordingly.

This place is always packed and I know why, the food is amazing and service is very good as well. It has a cool Detroit vibe to it and a really cool bar area too right when you walk in to the right. They have great selections of drinks too. I've been here several times and I never leave disappointed.

Cinnabon pancake side for an up charge

Outdoor dining where a dog was welcome was hard to find (maybe because it is a national holiday.) Table service was not available outside but I was able to order food to go and sit on the front patio. Named for the former Detroit based Hudson department store across the street. My parents ordered a vegetarian omelette, it came with a side of cottage potatoes, and a pancake both they did not want. Perfect for me, I chose to make that my meal but up charged to the Cinnabon pancakes and added a side of bacon. Very tasty and very busy with every table full, and constant turn over of happy customers.

Churro French Toast

Since its inception in 2011, Hudson Cafe has been one of the more popular brunch spots in the Metro Detroit area. The original location is in Detroit on Woodward, but there are also locations in Northville and Troy. There is usually a wait to dine in. Outdoor seating is an option during the warmer months. I've had the cinnabunn pancakes, churro French toast, and blueberry burger. The pancakes were huge, and topped with a cream cheese frosting. Upon trying them, my wife said they were the best she's ever had. The French toast is my favorite of the 3 dishes. It came with caramel and Nutella for dipping. Of those, I preferred the caramel. The burger and the waffle fries it was served with were both standard. The blueberry sauce gave the burger a unique flavor that made it worth trying. To me, the highlights here are the downtown vibes and the portion sizes. There's plenty of intriguing options on the menu I would like to try, so I look forward to returning in the future.

First time I went, they were too crowded & we could not be seated. So, I was really excited to be able to finally try it this time. It's a casual breakfast spot, nothing fancy but still nicely decorated on the inside. We were seated and our waitress was Dee. She seemed to be in a rush because she kept coming back every few seconds rushing us to place our order. Also, she was not the friendliest even when we were trying to be engaging and understand different items on the menu; Very cut & dry. However, the food made up the lackluster service. We ordered Gluten Free pancakes with bacon, and bacon jam crepes. We also ordered the fruit cup, chicken tenders & fries for my niece. I can't forget about the drinks. We ordered the mango mimosas & some featured cocktail with strawberry & gin. The drinks were delicious and well-made. The bacon jam crepe was surprisingly good. I wasn't sure about the combination of ingredients but it worked out well. It was the perfect balance of sweet & savory. Almost tasted like a bbq rib. lol I know, but it was good. The gluten free pancakes were huge, but just okay, nothing special. Overall, I would say a solid 3.5 stars. I will go back just to give it another shot & try more items off the menu.

The food here is excellent!!! SO delicious!!! I took my boyfriend here because breakfast is his favorite meal and he loved his corned beef hash with a side of pancakes. My Huevos Rancheros were fantastic!! Definitely a nice spicy kick to them, especially with the salsa verde and chorizo. Friendly and attentive service. Spacious interior and good vibes. They have a full bar too. I definitely want to come back and order more things.

The menu is minimal but mighty. I felt genuinely nourished after a vanilla bean latte, parfait, biscuit (Red Lobster-esque cheddar biscuits) / egg sandwich, and greens salad. The eggs were expertly fluffed how I like them. My friend had the lentil soup along with a tofu scramble on focaccia. We ate it all! The espresso was strong, you get real silverware and clayware/bowls. Wow! I was taken aback. And for what you're getting, the prices aren't all too bad. They could definitely be higher (don't make them higher ) I encourage any coffee shop loiterer, vegan/vegetarian, or city dweller, student, etc -- to try this spot. There are a wide variety of books in the room connected to the dining area, with book shelves filled with zines and art pieces. Also a stage? What goes on in here!? Keep up the amazing work, this is a great addition to my favorites!

1st Shout out to Yelp, I read reviews b4 going to a restaurant. In this case I learned gratuity…read moreis included. I would have missed that Now... I was searching for a Restaurant that Truly supports a GF person So many say they are yet ( pre read their menus and nada) This was a test visit for guests that ARE ABSOLUTELY GF. I called for a Reservation. Oops no same day Res, yet I was told there was one Res left for 12:30 ( if We didn't make it the wait would NOT be long. We were a bit late yet our table was waiting for Us... This is a cozy scratch kitchen restaurant with a Greenwich Village vibe. Table seating for 16 bar seating for 3 Yet it didn't feel crowded. We were asked if it was our 1st time? Yes. Menu was fully explained and even b4 I could ask I was told what was always prepared GF and for other dishes what could be substituted...I purposely chose the GF waffles. May I say AWESOME. I had 1 suggestion....add the Tart cherry crafted jam that came with my husband's biscuit as an additional add on with the syrup. with the waffles I blended syrup and jam and. Then my Latte. I asked for a Hot cup. It was creamy smooth. If You can't have dairy ( and they asked) there's options. I need not have worried; there was parking closer by. Oh well. The restaurant is tiny. And it maximizes the space by lining its walls with colorful bottles of wine, chic and cher containers of olive oil, and pots of artisanal honey hiding here and there. My friend pointed out the breathtakingly beautiful bouquet of dried flowers hanging over our table. I should have taken a photo when I had the chance. I started with the spiced brown sugar latte, made with oat milk. Delicious and sweeter than I thought. Even though the menu is small and curated, I could not decide between the nosh plate, the biscuit brekkie, or the quiche, which was the special of the day. So I ended up with the quiche but added the biscuit and bacon - I did not want to miss out. The crust of the quiche was fine, but the custard-like filling was divine, more like a savory crème brûlée or flan. Service was quick and efficient. Our reservation was made for one of the predefined 90-minute blocks, so the staff was on top of getting and delivering our meals and bussing tables as soon as they emptied to make room for the next group of guests.
