Folk is a James beard nominated restaurant in Detroit known for their breakfast and brunch menu. Offering vegan options and low cost sustainability features. Came to Folk while visiting Detroit because many people had mentioned to me how great it was, and when I saw the menu has gluten free and vegan options I was sold. I did make reservations but there were open tables when we arrived at 1030, less so when we left. The restaurant is small, but it is very cozy with a great ambience. Service was super attentive and fast. We both just got drip coffee which was always kept full. I couldn't decide what to get because there were so many options for me and luckily the waiter helps me decide to get the frittata with the side of tempeh and the gluten-free waffle. I wasn't sure about the gluten-free waffle but man I am so glad I got it because it is the best gluten-free waffle I've ever had hands-down. Didn't even taste like it was gluten-free , and there was lots of cinnamon on it which I loved. It was absolutely delicious my friend got the vegan crunch wrap and really enjoyed it. The salsa Verde that came with it was delicious. Would definitely come back here to eat when I'm in town. I will be dreaming of that waffle for a while.
Why did I wait so long to visit this special place? Had heard good things and they are all true! Easy street parking. Inside and outside dining options. Friendly staff. Plant based options. Local ingredients. A shop inside the restaurant with loads of local wares, wines, and food goods. They have wine, coffee and teas but I didn't partake in beverages today. Came in for Sunday brunch and ordered the vegan crunch wrap. Yum, yum, yum. Ingredients like The Brinery tempeh and a tortilla from Mexican Village. Served with a spicy tomatillo sauce. Excellent. While it was a quick visit today, I can't wait to be back again!

I was searching for a Restaurant that Truly supports a GF person So many say they are yet ( pre read their menus and nada) This was a test visit for guests that ARE ABSOLUTELY GF. I called for a Reservation. Oops no same day Res, yet I was told there was one Res left for 12:30 ( if We didn't make it the wait would NOT be long. We were a bit late yet our table was waiting for Us... This is a cozy scratch kitchen restaurant with a Greenwich Village vibe. Table seating for 16 bar seating for 3 Yet it didn't feel crowded. We were asked if it was our 1st time? Yes. Menu was fully explained and even b4 I could ask I was told what was always prepared GF and for other dishes what could be substituted...I purposely chose the GF waffles. May I say AWESOME. I had 1 suggestion....add the Tart cherry crafted jam that came with my husband's biscuit as an additional add on with the syrup. with the waffles I blended syrup and jam and. Then my Latte. I asked for a Hot cup. It was creamy smooth. If You can't have dairy ( and they asked) there's options. I signed up for the Rewards program and already have points and my next visit is already reserved.
Stayed in the corktown area of Detroit and found this place five minutes away from our Airbnb! So happy that when we walked there it was nice enough outside to have the option to sit outside! The interior was beautifully decorated and also seemed to have lots of merchandise on sale. The lady who we spoke to when we walked in came out to bring us menus and waters. We all grabbed some caffeine and I loved my miso caramel latte! Oatmilk is an option as well! We were told the biscuits are homemade which had me scouring the menu to get something with a biscuit! I tried the Biscuit Brekky and got bacon as a protein. Besides the homemade biscuit, it also came with an egg frittata and a salad. The bacon was really thick and I loved the flavor. I devoured this entire dish! The whole thing felt incredibly balanced with veggies, proteins, carbs, and fats. Really wish I knew what dressing was in the salad because it was refreshing! The bills came out automatically with a service charge for the tip which we were told about. You could pay the normal way with cash/card but they did have the QR code option as well which we all did. This was a really great stop for brunch and I'd be happy to eat here again! Truly hit the spot and get me satisfied the whole way back to the west side of the state. Worth a try if you're in need for brunch in this area!
Went to Folk for the first time last Sunday and I was blown away by the flavors and perfection of their food. Perfect balance of textures, citrus, salt, and protein. The service was great as well. My only complain is that the gluten free sandwich bread is WAY too small compared to the regular bread. I think you should get three slices for the whitefish open face sandwich. Otherwise, you really are not paying for the same thing. The pic of the gf sandwich is the one without onions. Can't wait to go back! The white fish sandwich was to die for!

Yummy! My hubby and I came maybe a few years ago and enjoyed our meal then so we came back today since we were in the neighborhood. Based on the reviews, I decided to get the Vegan Crunch Wrap (So good!) & my hubby got the (regular) Crunch Wrap which he absolutely loved! The salsa verde is soo delicious (pretty good spice level, like a medium!). Yes, it does have a nice crunch (from the crispy tostada inside;) We were able to sit inside (maybe 7-8 small tables in their small indoor space). Service was excellent and I love all the products they sell! We will return soon! Thank you!
Returning to Folk on a weekend day morning and they are remain just as good. It was much quieter, and easier to grab a table in the very small restaurant. The space is cosy and bright, shelves with wine and books, big windows letting in light. The service is friendly and quick. They do offer wine and breakfast booze. I had a great coffee, my friend enjoyed her mimosa. We each had one of the basic breakfasts, each comes with a side of fresh greens. The thick cut bacon is fantastic as is the biscuit. If I had a complaint, the jam was very thin, the taste was great, but you could not spread it, we ended up dipping. The prices have gone up since my last visit, which they noted. Remains one of the best breakfast in Detroit.
I have been to Folk a couple times and this was my first time dining in. I usually just get a latte - and I will say I super appreciate their baristas and all the fun syrup flavors on their menu. The miso caramel is to die for -- it is the ideal balance of sweet, salty, and umami that perfectly balances out the espresso bitterness. I love the vibes inside, it is truly a community hub and has so many locally sourced goods, there is so much to choose from. The space is small so finding a table can be difficult. I got a breakfast wrap and as you can see it was very full and loaded, but I wish there was some more sauce as it was dry. I just didn't find it to be something super special especially for the price. All in all, I would be curious to try something else from their menu as I feel like there are so many redeeming qualities for folk.

Food and space are great. I find the prices reasonable for the quality of the meal and beverages. Service was prompt, unobtrusive and professional. I was however disappointed that when we were presented the bill with a convenient QR pay code, no mention was made that a 20% tip was included. The server ended up with a nearer 50 % tip....
Folk is a quaint breakfast spot with friendly staff, a nice outdoor seating area, and a stylish interior. The menu is small and everything tasted very fresh. The espresso quality was solid and the latte was very flavorful. The crunchwrap and farm sammy were also very good and had great textures. The portions for the price, however are far too small.

Loved this food and place! Cute, quaint inside with amazing, fresh options. We got the farm Sammie and biscuit brekky. The biscuit brekky was a great option for having a little bit of everything for breakfast. We also got the cinnamon roll, which was fantastic and they warmed it up for us. Of course, I arrived ridiculously early for our reservation since I always worry about parking. I parked farther away just to be assured of a spot. I need not have worried; there was parking closer by. Oh well. The restaurant is tiny. And it maximizes the space by lining its walls with colorful bottles of wine, chic and cher containers of olive oil, and pots of artisanal honey hiding here and there. My friend pointed out the breathtakingly beautiful bouquet of dried flowers hanging over our table. I should have taken a photo when I had the chance. I started with the spiced brown sugar latte, made with oat milk. Delicious and sweeter than I thought. Even though the menu is small and curated, I could not decide between the nosh plate, the biscuit brekkie, or the quiche, which was the special of the day. So I ended up with the quiche but added the biscuit and bacon - I did not want to miss out. The crust of the quiche was fine, but the custard-like filling was divine, more like a savory crème brûlée or flan. Service was quick and efficient. Our reservation was made for one of the predefined 90-minute blocks, so the staff was on top of getting and delivering our meals and bussing tables as soon as they emptied to make room for the next group of guests. read more
Phenomenal!!!! It was quality food, vibes and superb service from the manager Kaitlin! We all got the Biscuit Brekky. Kaitlin highly suggested the chicken sausage. I feel like a lot of waiters and waitresses have the worst suggestions and just say everything is good. She was on point. I did get bacon instead of chicken sausage like my mom and sister did. I tasted my sisters and it was excellent I'll be back! The plate was light but filling. The salad was perfect addition and left feeling not guilty about a biscuits. I've been by this place numerous times while shopping next door but first time stopping in. It's a small but inviting spot. I sat myself after grabbing a menu. Service was quick and food was good. I ordered the Everything sando and a chai latte. They offer local food items and a wide variety of wines for purchase. Give them a try. Just as a heads up - gratuity is added to your bill. read more

This is a cute little breakfast place! I definitely recommend making a reservation because it's a pretty small space. The food was yummy here and the workers were nice and attentive! Even though it's a smaller menu, they have a pretty good variety of breakfast foods as well as some seasonal options. read more
Pricey but absolutely worth it. Crunchwrap is great, but I recently came for traditional brunch and it was amazing. My friend got the parfait and it looked exquisite. The Nosh plate is everything you could want on a morning plate: house made biscuit, jammy eggs, bacon, greens, cornichons, pickled onion. Phenomenal food and service. We loved the attention to detail with our meal, pastry (coffee cake), and drinks. I loved my cappuccino. While my man prefers space, that simply isn't a priority to me. The table close next to us emptied before we ate our whole meal. I look forward to seeing a greater selection of wine by the glass and bottles to enjoy there (perhaps for a corkage fee). So yummy! Tiny place so be prepared to wait for a seat on the weekends, but worth it. You can order anything to go though. The biscuit brekky is delicious- a mini quiche, and yummy biscuit (and I added bacon). Everything tastes very farm to table. The ambience is nice and they have an assortment of preserves for sale. Fresh, intimate, and progressive. The menu is seasonally inspired and gives one a lot to think about when selecting. The idea of the crunch wrap smote me. I mean, frittata, tostada, spicy jack, chipotle aioli, and salsa verde sound like a resounding YUM, and I guarantee that it was! I paired it with a masala chai. I should note that I modified the Crunch Wrap to be vegan. I appreciate their intentionality with their menu, pairing their food items with drink items so you can craft and enjoy a gastronomic experience! I also appreciate their mission and commitment to low food waste, which is an inspiring model for the food and beverage industry. I'm not that keen about the commitments restaurants or cafes are pledging, so I appreciate knowing that when I choose to support Folk, I'm not just giving my tastebuds a treat but also helping this cafe support a valiant mission. I also find their events are opportunities to weave community, so I recommend attending one. read more

This spot is small, but absolutely beautiful. It's worth doing an early brunch with a reservation. I would not attempt to eat here on the weekends without one. I also think it's important to note that the inside (in my opinion) would not be comfortable for larger people for people with mobility aids. Especially when it's busy and people are in line to order. I got the BLT and a blueberry latte. Both were so good! The aioli on the BLT was so 10/10. The only thing I wish the latte came in a glass instead of a plastic cup. I also love all of the local products they have on display. read more
A friend recommended this spot and I couldn't really wrap my head around the concept when looking at the website, so it wasn't super high on my list. That was silly and I'm so glad we ended up there sort of randomly after searching for a spot near Mink, where we were going later on that afternoon. There was plenty of street parking available when we arrived around 10 am on a Saturday. Seating inside is very limited, but luckily it wasn't busy yet and we were able to grab a cozy table near the window. Folk is a cafe + market concept that feels very big-city. I don't think I've ever been to a spot quite like this before. Our main focus was breakfast, so I ordered the miso caramel latte and kimchi melt with bacon, and Nate got a French press and the crunch wrap. The owner took our order and was very kind and helpful. It was fun to browse the market area of the shop while we waited. They stock unique and interesting gourmet products and ingredients from diverse providers. Each item had a placard indicating if the business is LGBTQIA owned, female owned, APPI owned, immigrant owned, Detroit based, etc. I really enjoy supporting these types of businesses, so this was great to see. We ended up getting some holiday gifts, like salmon chips and Momofuku chili oil. They also had tea, coffee, chocolate, cookbooks, olive oil, spices, candles, fancy salts, and more. I love cooking and food in general, so this was right up my alley. I always love when places have items I've never seen anywhere else as I tend to visit these specialty/gourmet shops whenever I can. Our food was brought out and it was presented nicely. The kimchi melt was gooey and delicious. I liked that the kimchi had a kick to it! It was pretty messy to eat but we were given the perfect amount of napkins. I do wish it maybe had a little more cheese, and next time I wouldn't spring for the bacon - it didn't need it. But overall I really liked this sandwich. Nate really loved the crunch wrap. They also have coolers with grab and go food items as well as beverages, fridge staples, and other treats. I'm so glad we checked out Folk and can't wait to visit again. read more

I came here on a Sunday morning, and the first and most prominent thing about this establishment is it's size.... it is tiny!!! We were greeted and sat ourselves at a small 2 person table, where we were quite literally elbow to elbow with adjacent customers eating. Now, outside of this school-cafeteria-level lack of space, Folk is pretty hipster and filled with expensive looking decor and cute items & packaged goods available to buy. NOTE: there is not a parking lot! I came here on a Sunday morning, and found this establishment to be cute but small. Small to the point you must be elbow to elbow with other customers!! Perhaps this was because I came at a busy time, but just know, you should expect to be in VERY close quarters during brunch time on weekends. If you're willing to put up with this very packed restaurant, this food was pretty darn good. I ordered their breakfast crunchwrap, it came with a small salsa, and it was delicious! This is the kind of restaurant where you order at the counter however they did still bring the food to our table. They include the gratuity in the bill- you should expect to pay around $20 per person here. read more

Inside and outside seating is available and there is an overall general store vibe. We ordered a biscuit brekky - comprised of small fritta like egg w/herb & butter, biscuit & rhubarb jam, two slices of bacon (extra cost) and some local greens. Drink selections included brown sugar spice latte w/ oat milk and iced blueberry flavored matcha tea latte w/ whole milk. The cost was pretty steep as the bacon was an additional cost and service charges are added automatically. Overall the meal was fresh and satisfied my appetite but was a bit underwhelming and the coffee and tea weren't as flavorful as they needed to be. read more
A super cute market-cafe with lots of vegetarian options and a great mission to reduce food waste. Everything was delicious - waffle, farm sammie, and folk farm plate. The jam was incredible. Everything had the perfect amount of salt. I got delicious cornichons with my farm plate but the person next to me got a huge pile of truly amazing looking pickled carrots. The space is small (but bright and has super fun market items) and they are very strict about reservation start time (though not length). Service was great. read more

Yum! A great place for vegetarians - the menu is very veggie forward, though there are options to add meat. I ordered the bahn mi - I actually thought it was vegan, but apparently not due to the aioli - it was delicious! The textures were perfect and the mushroom spread on top is divine. Perfect bread, so yummy. Mom had the roasted asparagus melt which was also fantastic and a little different. Everything was so fresh and yummy and all the food going by us looked amazing as well. They have really good coffee and tea and I look forward to returning. A great little patio in Corktown for a quiet bite. read more
We stopped by for brunch one Sunday. I had the waffle, and my wife had a biscuit. The waffle was very good and the biscuit was very good. They sell candles, olive oil, cookbooks, and wines; kind of an odd assortment and most pretty expensive ($42 small candle). Very small inside, and you have to order at the register. read more
