The perfection that is Avalon. Went in with a large group after a run and Avalon didn't miss a beat. Selection is great, prices are typical, coffee and drinks are great, food is excellent and customer service is off the charts! Appreciate the team at Avalon ensuring we had quick yummy food with a smile!
Avalon Bakery in downtown Detroit was a hit! They had a large menu, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, baked goods, and QR code for free parking discount for the metropolis parking structures. So nice! The Avalon Breakfast Bowl was amazing! A great balance of protein, fiber, and delicious flavor. The portion was large enough for leftovers the next morning! If you are in downtown Detroit looking for a nice breakfast, then look no further!
The last time I went to Avalon was maybe five years ago. On my most recent trip, I went in with a clear mind and a very hungry stomach. Was it better? Eh. I got the strawberry shortcake pancakes, flavor wise good but came with too few strawberries. My partner got the smoked salmon bagel which was not good. The salmon pieces were so thick, it felt like chewing through a sushi roll; we both tried a bite and tossed it out right after Drinks were fine, strawberry matcha is a bit sweet for my taste and I don't remember what coffee we got but it was fine. Avoid the Lox!
I was in town looking for a breakfast sandwich close to the hotel. Found Avalon Cafe & Bakery on Yelp. The number one option here for me was they had Gluten Free bread. This is an order at the counter spot and they bring your meal to the table and you pick up your drink at the counter when ready. The service here was not memorable, it was not bad or not great. Just a transaction that you'll never remember once you go on your day. The dinning area was clean, our food came out hot and fresh. I would return when in Detroit again. Plenty of unhoused people on the street asking for money. I offered the gentleman outside of the restaurant a meal instead. With my upbringing and having the ability to buy someone in need a meal. I would help every single time.
After a walk along the riverwalk, I wanted something to tide me over for the rest of the afternoon. I saw Avalon was popping off and looked like a pretty trendy place. I decided to order the sausage, egg, and cheese muffin. It was pretty tasty and was a nice light meal. My only real complaint is that the service seems a bit slow for a breakfast place.
The salted chocolate chip cookies are amazing! Chewy, with a very slight crisp on the edges, chunks of chocolate, with flaky salt! Get some!!
Stopped here for some coffees for a work meeting with my team. Super spacious place and not too busy around lunch time. Drinks were good and espresso had a great flavor. A couple of us wanted to try their pumpkin spice, but they were all out which was a bummer. Definitely will have to come back to try out some of their food menu, everything looked really good.
Got the house drink brown sugar chai with almond milk and added lavender it was absolutely delicious and then I had to satisfy my sweet tooth with a vegan carrot cake and that was the icing on the cake that literally sealed the deal 10/10 would highly recommend and they have a nice selection for vegans to enjoy !
Really cute cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. Vegetarian and vegan options too. I had the wild mushroom avocado toast. Generous portion. The mushrooms were a bit salty for my taste and it overpowered everything else and I couldn't taste much avocado, but I enjoyed it overall. The steel cut oats bowl was tasty. Excellent service. Fun and colorful decor.

I loved the outdoor seating options. We were super disappointed that both the French toast and pancakes were out when we got there, but we found alternatives and our only complaint was that the bread on the avocado toast was over toasted. I also tried the honey nut oat latte and let me tell you... as someone who does not drink coffee that drink... that drink could convert me. I actually skipped out on a portion of my training a few days later just to go get another. It was like a hug for my soul. This place has a real chill vibe and is good for one on one or group dining. I actually suggested this as a spot to group dine for next year's training. See ya next July!

You're downtown so it's gonna be busy. This place got a lil bit of everything. It's nice inside. Food is good but it's a lil over priced. Come prepared & treat yourself.
Solid 5/5! From a non local review, food and service were great! Come here if you're looking to find delicious food with a chill atmosphere all at a good price. Tuna melt with chips (or salad) was delicious. It's an open face sandwich style. While visiting Detroit for a few days, I walked from my hotel to try this cafe for breakfast. Place looks super chill - gives me a hip Brooklyn-ish vibe, except way larger in space. Priced accordingly too (not cheap at all!). Because I'm on vacation, I went ahead and tried something I usually don't get: the Breakfast Hash. What I liked with this was that I got an assortment of vegetables with it. Not the typical eggs, but perhaps a balanced, hearty breakfast. I also got a vanilla cold brew. Good, albeit a bit sweet (good for me, maybe not so good for my other half!!). But I had a fun time here. It was worth the wait and eating peacefully. This has become a easy return place for a different bite to eat Avalon opened before many of the current eateries downtown We enjoyed an Italian Beef sandwich on their amazing bread. The team member taking our order evidently noted we only ordered 1 sandwich ( running short on time) When she brought the serving out She it separated onto 2 plates it's the extra without the ask that I appreciate as a dinner That's why along with tge great taste Welcoming Vibe unique drinks and menu Avalon Bakery will continue to be on my list read more

Looking for signature barista drinks? What about a delicious breakfast? Well, this is definitely the place. When i came, the line was out the door and for good reason! The food here is fantastic! I ordered a cortado and it was made perfectly. Not too much milk nor was it steamed too much. I then got a chai latte and let me tell you... It warmed my heart up to capacity. Makes you feel good inside. I had the appetizer of the Fall Harvest Chili and man... It truly hit the spot. I finished my experience with an avocado toast and i was very surprised (and pleased) with the portion of this meal. 10/10 recommend. I would try to and avoid the weekends if i came back. This is a order at the counter and self-seating place so space is very limited. Accommodating large groups to dine in may be difficult. I almost did not eat here since the line was out the door but ended up being enticed by the smells of the fresh baked goods. read more

$35 for barely a breakfast meal and dirty lettuce? Not good and kinda disgusting. It was probably our mistake to come here early in the morning the day after Thanksgiving. Not on point today! The egg and cheese sandwiches were ok, a little salty, but edible. The potatoes were not good. Very bland and not to my liking. The coffee was ok, nothing special. What I really didn't like was not having an option for a custom tip (after ordering at the counter), so no tip. I can't justify 15-20% on non-sit-down service. Sorry, not sorry. We'll never be back, mostly because we probably won't be back in Detroit anytime soon. If we are, likely not coming here again for breakfast. Maybe lunch...? read more

Over priced and not very good. I got the eggs Benedict. Hollandaise sauce super water and zero flavor. Eggs were over cooked as well. Won't be back. Also potato's lack flavor. They don't bring your drinks to your table. The cashier did not tell Us they are left on the counter. read more

Went here because all of the brunch places had an hour wait. Felt like a whole foods- restaurant only vibe. Everything they had was organic and ethically sourced etc etc. I think its a bit more expensive, because of what I just mentioned above. But the food was good. I got the brunch burger which was good. The breakfast sandwich was good. The latte was good. It wasn't limited to coffee and tea, they also served alcohol! Finding a table is the difficult part. We just waited until someone left for a table of four as the others waited in line. read more
Got caught in the rain and dipped in to Avalon and it was quite good fortune. I had the avocado toast with salmon and hard boiled egg (SCORE). Also their chai latte was fantastic too. I'd say the vibe was that of an upscale, extended bakery. Nice food, lots of great big goods and wonderful coffee/cappuccino area. there was lots of seating, and a very clean layout of the dining room. There was also seating outside which was nice...right up until it started raining. It's the type of place that you walk in grab a menu, then order then go to your table and wait for them to bring your food so there's not much in the way of service, but they did get my food to me in a timely manner. I'll definitely come back here when I'm in Cleveland again. read more
Really enjoyed Avalon Café!! The eatery is set up where you order your food at the counter by the main entrance, then you take a number and the servers will bring your food to you! They have an assortment of breakfast and lunch options, along with alcoholic drinks and baked goods. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the ambiance was clean and lively! read more
Avalon was my last stop on my 24-hour Detroit foodie tour. It was my only brunch spot while in the city, and I truly enjoyed it. The scene was eclectic and relaxed and the service was straightforward and efficient. I especially enjoyed the patio seating. I enjoyed the chicken sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit with a side salad and avocado. Delicious. My sandwich came out good and hot and my salad was fresh. My only critique is that I prefer my biscuits on the fluffier side. However, the flavor was all there. My beverage of choice was the iced dirty chai, which was perfectly balanced and so good. I had heard such rave reviews about this bakery so I came in with high hopes. I ordered the chicken sausage, egg, and cheese roll and an iced chai latte. The sandwich was not mind blowing and honestly not work $15. The side salad was the best part of the meal. The chai latte was great and I was happy with it! We also got an iced London Fog coffee with lavender cream foam, unfortunately there was a hair found in that drink so that was off putting. I hate making bad reviews, but I just wasn't impressed with my experience here for the first time other than the iced chai latte. read more
Excellent craft food for breakfast, brunch or lunch. You order everything at the counter and they deliver it to your table. They offer a full cafe including coffee and espresso drinks (with seasonal specials too!) plus brunch cocktails like bloody Mary's and mimosas. They're brunch offerings are my absolute favorite. I love their Sausage Biscuit and the Sausage and Gravy. Their portion sizes are great too- you will not leave hungry. I also love that they offer a takeout option so you can order online and pickup at your convenience. Must try! read more

Egg and Cheese: 5/5 - toasted bread was soft and fluffy while toasted just right. The eggs were scrambled well and fluffy. The cheese melted right in and was delicious. Not too salty either. The salad was extra but I felt like there wasn't enough dressing. Banana Nut Chai: 5/5 - my go-to drink here every time. I enjoy sweet drinks and it tasted very similar to a banana nut bread. Potatoes: 4/5 - Potatoes were seasoned perfectly and weren't too salty. Only wish they were a little softer but that's just a personal preference. read more
This place has a wonderful atmosphere with soft lighting and relaxing instrumental music. Semi small inside, but plenty of tables to choose from. Take note that it is more of a cafe style place where you order at the register and find your own seat. I love the location, but parking is a bit difficult. Street parking is available all around it and there are parking lots and garages within walking distance. It just depends on how busy it is at the time whether or not you'll be able to find a close spot. Overall, the food was really good! I think our whole order costed us $35. We were going to get mimosas but those were $10 each, so we decided to skip the alcohol there. The food was definitely worth the price, perfect portion sizes, and very filling. The food and drinks are so good here. The staff is pretty nice but doesn't listen very well and messes up my order often. The sandwiches are delicious but so expensive. Even a BLT is like $15. They do come with chips luckily. The salted caramel chai latte is sooooo good but the pumpkin chai and banana bread chai taste very fake and artificial. It is very busy during the weekends around brunch time and the line is out the door. There is not a ton of seating inside but they do have sit down service. read more

Excellent cafe in downtown Detroit. A variety of vegan and vegetarian options, making it difficult to choose. The mushroom toast was excellent- bread was just the right degree of crusty and the savory mushroom sauce was divine. The tomato soup was a bit disappointing- bland and a little bit salty, but the rest of the meal made up for it as did the Bloody Mary! Highly recommend as a lunch/brunch/breakfast spot. read more

Great place for breakfast - huge dining area - pay for the food and grab your own table. They will bring the food to you. The coconut latte was delicious with lots of coconut shavings. I had the biscuits and gravy which came in a unique style but delicious. My friend had the breakfast sandwich with chips and the chips were delicious! Haha I need to highlight the BBQ chips it came with. read more

I had a London Fog that came out great and then I got a special Avalon Brunch Burger that honestly was one of the best brunch burgers I've had in awhile. I'd definitely recommend this for anyone grabbing brunch in the area read more
