If you're looking for a quick yet hearty breakfast this is the place. I LOVE a bagel and the number of bagel sandwiches that can be made vegan is amazing! I wish there was more/covered seating outside, but regardless the bagels are tasty!
Really enjoyed my toasted bagel with lox and cream cheese. I appreciate that you can make your own sandwich instead of defaulting to their sandwich options. The black sesame garlic bagel paired so well with lox. It was perfectly toasted while the cream cheese and lox kept its cool. The cafe itself is also super cute. It was tastefully decorated with lots of seating. Coffee was a bit on the pricey side. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area.
Stopped by for breakfast on a Saturday morning. They were less that half full around 8:45. Staff was friendly and service was fast. I enjoyed a fresh Cinnamon roll which was excellent. It was perfectly cooked through the middle without being dried out on the edges. The cream cheese frosting was nice and light and complimented it well. Will definitely come back again if we're in the area.

Let's talk about interior first, you can see from all the pictures that it is comfortable and welcoming. Coffee and food. They make their own coffee so I expected to pay more than usual, but not $5 for a cold brew. My little sandwich is another $10. Sandwich is made of fresh veggies and fresh bread, I think. I don't know who James Oliver is, but he is not famous enough to overcharge regular items. Service: Slow and unigeneric. The two Asian female cashier feels like they don't want to be there. I had ordered a bagel too and takes like 20mins to come out. Who is doing all the hiring.
One of the best bagel sandwiches I've had. The bagel had a great chew and flavor to it. I had the rosemary sea salt bagel but they have a variety of other bagels as well. It was a filling sandwich. I can't wait to try the other ones. The ice matcha latte was also delicious.
Really cool and inviting space. Beautiful and spacious venue. A variety of different seating areas. The food is excellent! I had an avocado, cheese, and egg breakfast sandwich on a jalapeño toasted bagel and it was the best breakfast sandwich I've had in a long time. The bagel was phenomenal, the eggs were perfect, and the avocado was fresh and delicious. I really enjoyed my chai latte too. The cardamom pistachio cake was tasty too. The peanut butter cookies were so good too. I definitely recommend the sandwiches and pastries here. Fast and friendly service. Free parking lot in the back. Outdoor patio too. Located in the historic Corktown neighborhood, I look forward to returning soon.
My first time here for a breakfast meeting.. Great vibe, good service, and wonderful experience.. I ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese and an orange juice. This is a perfect place for a meeting. Come do some work on the computer. They have free Wi-Fi plenty of parking in the back street parking is available as well.
I was really excited to check out James Oliver after seeing photos of the interior because it looked exactly like my vibe. Parking was easy with plenty of street spots available (there was a lot on the back/side of the building), and even on a busy Wednesday morning there seemed to be lots of seating inside as well. I chose to sit outside by the fire pit which gave me an amazing view of the city and Corktown. I do not get to come to this area often and it reminded me how gorgeous the location is. Inside the atmosphere felt relaxed with a mix of people working and chatting. The outside patio was gorgeous (the lavender was massive and smelled amazing). There were plenty of chairs and a few picnic tables, as well. The baristas were super friendly and helped me pick out beans to take home. I went with the Florentine espresso roast and I am excited to try it. I would love to come back later in the day when it is probably quieter to sample their Italian sub. I ordered an iced dirty chai with whole milk. They use Calder's dairy which I really appreciate since I grew up near one of their storefronts. I personally wished the chai flavor came through a bit stronger but the cinnamon on top really boosted the taste compared to places that do not add it. For food I had the chorizo, cheese, and biscuit sandwich but skipped the egg since I am not a fan of egg patties. The barista was kind enough to ring it up differently so I saved a little money which I appreciated. The biscuit was fluffy and the sandwich overall was delicious although I would have liked the chorizo patty to be a little thicker. I spent around eighteen dollars in total which was more than I expected but it made sense considering I added a shot of espresso to my drink and the sandwich portion was generous. Overall I would give this spot a solid 4.8 out of 5 mainly because of the chai. I think if I try their cold brew or drip coffee next time that might bump it up to a full five. Great spot with a welcoming atmosphere and definitely worth checking out.
I love a good coffee shop, especially ones that have breakfast. James Oliver Coffee is close to the Godfrey hotel, where Nate and I stayed recently. We stopped in for a quick breakfast before getting on the road. I got a latte and a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich. Nate got the veggie bagel and a coffee. The space is bright and airy with lots of natural light and varied seating. The latte was perfection, super creamy and delicious with my oat milk. The bagel was good, but to be honest, I am just not a big fan of bagel sandwiches. I noticed they had some other sandwiches on sourdough, so I wonder if I could've gotten the breakfast sandwich on that instead. Still, it was very tasty and Nate loved his (very messy) veggie bagel. Service was friendly and patient, which I appreciated as the menu board is handwritten which can sometimes take me longer to figure out.
Love the vegan cream cheese options and all the yummy sandwich options! Baked good options all on display and a lot of locally made candles, textiles and other goods on display and for sale too - very cute and cozy. Lots of seating options but I'm sure it gets busy. The parking lot could use a refresher - esp to mark handicap spots.
If you're looking for a place to grab a drink and relax this is a cool spot that has a good vibe. They have a nice outdoor seating area and a nice indoor seating area as well. The coffee is good along with their other drink options. One of the main reasons I enjoy coming here is because they also offer vegan options for some of their sandwiches and will usually have a sweet treat too. I have had their vegan blueberry muffin and breakfast bagel sandwiches and they are great. Overall the service that I've had has always been pretty good. The baristas work quickly and even though they often have a line of people due to the popularity they are pretty quick to take your order and get it to you. My only knock to say would be that due to the places popularity parking can sometimes be tight.
Fantastic local coffee shop! Their food and drinks are really good, and the shop is a great place to hang out or work. I got the Guatemala pour over, which was a steal at less than $5. It was rich and robust, with a chocolate flavor. I loved it. I also ordered the heirloom tomato sandwich on a Mediterranean bagel with goat cheese and honey. This was delicious, and the bagel had a perfect chewy texture. The service was great - prompt and very friendly.

James Oliver Coffee Co. in Corktown is one of my favorite places to work remotely. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance--comfortable, welcoming, and professional without being overly quiet or distracting. The coffee is consistently excellent, and they offer a great selection of sandwiches and food if you're planning to stay for a few hours. Unlike some coffee shops that can get overwhelmingly loud, James Oliver maintains a noise level that makes it easy to focus while still feeling lively. What really sets it apart is that you can comfortably take meetings here without worrying about excessive background noise, and it's equally great for getting work done between calls. If you're looking for a coffee shop in Detroit with great coffee, good food, and a productive work environment, James Oliver is definitely worth a visit. read more
The first couple of times that I went here and ordered from this location it was perfect. The food is so good, customer service is great! But this recent visit to Detroit I have ordered Uber Eats from here two days this week and both times my order was wrong. The first time I ordered an avocado, egg and cheese on a bagel and got egg and cheese on a bagel. Uber Eats refunded me $.83. Today I ordered a bagel with cream cheese (kind of hard to mess up, so it was safe) and a latte with white chocolate sauce and oat milk. Instead I got a regular mocha latte. Extremely bitter and unpleasant. I would definitely go back in person again to order so I can check my orders, but I will never order Uber Eats from here ever again. read more

Stopped in with a friend on Saturday morning around 11 AM. It was pretty busy. Service was fast. Food & coffee were yummy. I enjoyed sitting outside. Weather was nice, a little noisy because it's so close to the freeway but still a cool space just to hang out. read more
James Oliver is a stylish coffee shop in Corktown that is serving up great drinks. Our iced latte was smooth and not too sweet. The interior had a nice seating area that was good for working or socializing. The outdoor seating area was the main highlight, however. This place is a must visit, especially when the weather is nice. read more

I just discovered this place recently and I really like it! I love bagels and a cheese bagel can be hard to find, so I'm thankful for their jalepeno cheddar and spicy asiago options. This cafe has a lot of options for different cream cheese flavors and coffee flavors. They also have an array of pastries which are not bad. To me, the bagels are pretty good, not the best I've had, but I'm a repeat customer so that says enough. The best thing to mention about James Oliver is that they have a large sitting area, so it seems like a nice place to chat with a friend, read, or work on your computer. Because it's quite social, it can get a bit noisy so keep that in mind when you come check it out! read more
What a cute and stunning design! I was obsessed with the industrial appeal indoors. The menu was quite extensive with so many delicious options, it was hard to choose! I opted for the lox bagel on the jalapeño cheddar and I'm still drooling over it. My gf got it on a the rosemary sea salt, which also looked delicious. I got a matcha but wish I did espresso. My gf got oj and that also looked delicious. The staff is quick and does a great job. Such a fun spot to come chill and check out local vendors too. read more

my mom and partner got a coffee at honest john's this morning that was so good we had to find the source - james oliver coffee. since we already ate and got drinks we stopped in to buy some coffee beans and check out the space. i saw multiple vegan options on the menu - vegan egg, bacon, cream cheese, cookies and bagels. i was told all the bagels except the ones with cheese were vegan. i got a vegan cookie and jalapeño pretzel bagel for the road. the cookie was chewy and buttery. the bagel was soft and i loved the jalapeño and pretzel flavors. my partner is looking forward to trying the signature blend coffee beans he picked up. read more

Yelp didn't disappoint!! Was looking for a breakfast spot that wasn't a greasy spoon. We got Vegan bacon egg and cheese sandwiches. Wow---- doesn't even cover the flavor profile. It had a spicy kick that I couldn't place... We ordered ahead and it was ready as we pulled in lot. My matcha was ok but the cookies and pistachio bread more than made up for it. Collegey vibes, with people typing away on laptops or reading actual books. Would definitely revisit but this area has so many cool spots and I'm only here for short time read more

This coffee shop is really nice. There's a lot of options for food and drinks. I went here a couple of days ago to finish dictating my notes I like that there's tables, couches, and a bartop area with multiple electrical outlets. I had this hot tea. Can't remember the name and a BLT. BLT was amazing and flavorful. I will definitely be utilizing this place as my new "get work done " location. read more

Enjoyed great breakfast sandwiches, coffee and chai lattes during a recent trip try Detroit. We were staying at an air bnb in Cork town for a family event. Reviews and menu choices drew us in to James Oliver. Friendly with service at the counter, reasonable wait time and everyone enjoyed their breakfast and drinks. read more

My DC daughter said that while we were visiting Detroit, we must stop at James Oliver Coffee and pick up a few pounds of ground. We couldn't do that without something for ourselves so we enjoyed some sweet treats and coffee. The pastry counter was well stocked and everything looked great, it was hard to choose. I picked a lemon-blueberry scone and my wife a lemon drizzle pound cake - both were excellent! The fresh brewed coffee complimented a great breakfast. The vibe was fun, relaxed and the playlist was great. Service was great as well. I'm glad we made the trip. It was a great recommendation that I'm passing on to you. read more

Newly employed Jay was very confident in her suggestion of my first time coming. I ordered vegan tuna melt, cut in half. Peanut butter cookies and matcha latte with almond milk and Strawberry cream cheese on rosemary bagel. Food was so good that I came back in to get 2 more cookies and another drink. Come check them out. Ambience was relaxing and outside seating. Tell them Mark referred you! 10/10 read more
