So this is kind of like an upscale dive bar if you thought about a '60s type of style to it. If that makes any sense. We have a lot of retro vibe going on, but it has a little hint of modernness though with the history. You'll come in and and you'll hear music playing in the background and it's a little bit aged, but it's a really chill vibe and it's not going to be the party kind of music you're looking for. Which is okay if that's not what you want! I have no issue with the service and everybody was pretty cool. The waitress was super friendly, especially when I couldn't make up my mind because there are so many options lol. It's tree pockets so you have to park on Michigan Ave but there is plenty of it. Depending on what kind of day or night it is though. But just be aware you have to pay for parking. Seasoned fries - the fries come very seasoned and super crispy. You get a ton of them as well. You may not even need ketchup actually. French onion - this burger was good. Came with some onion rings kinda on the side. It was cooked medium and they got it pretty right with the temp. The cheese was melted well and it was seasoned pretty good also. Blt - this was a good BLT and it was very stacked. I'm not sure if you can make it out from the picture but it had plenty of everything on here. The bacon tasted great. Tots - they came out really hot and super crispy and actually gave you a heck of a lot of them too so that definitely helped but these are really good and you didn't even need ketchup. read more

We were in town for the weekend and trying to check out some iconic Detroit items. Per my research this was a good place to try a Boston Cooler (vanilla ice cream and vernor's ginger ale). We were nearby after brunch and walked the few minutes down to Mercury Bar's corner. Given the weather outside, we would have taken any place that had four walls and basic heating but the aesthetic of MB was fun, kinda like a retro diner. We took a seat at the bar. Since the Boston cooler was already decided, we just needed to pick out a beverage. I briefly considered trying one of their draught beers but then remembered that would not be good for the bladder and we were a ways from the hotel. They have creative cocktails so that made it easy. We ordered both the (and this is from memory because they savagely don't have a cocktail menu online) cherry poppins (cherry whiskey, neither of us remember what else was in it other than the chardonnay float which was very interesting) and a basil ?italian margarita with blackberry. Both were very strongly flavored, not for child-like palates. The Boston cooler, btw, was BETTER THAN SEX. Good thing that shit isn't anywhere near where I live that could be dangerous. We didn't try any of the food but it looked delicious especially the pile of fries I saw on some plates as they were coming out for other patrons. This was probably about our 3rd time here but it had been probably almost 10 years since we here last. I'm happy to say the food - burgers and fries were just as good as I remembered. Tried this place out before a show at the Fisher Theatre. Has a cool old-school diner feel. They do have outdoor seating in the back for when the weather gets nicer. Our waiter was nice, but the service could have been better. My friend said that the best part of her meal was the milkshake. They have a lot of milkshake options - specialty and classic flavors. The French onion burger was alright, but nothing special. I upgraded my side to fried pickles, but they were mostly batter. We came here on a super snowy frigid Sunday for a bite to eat before the Pistons game. This place isn't that big and most of the tables were occupied, but the bar had plenty of seating available so that's where we sat. My honey had been RAVING about their fried bologna sandwich. I am not a bologna person at all but he made me want to try it. He was absolutely correct, the sandwich was delicious. I had them hold the onions but other than that got everything it came with, along with fries and a s'more milkshake. The also offered boozy shakes and had a s'mores option for that but the liquor in it was either bourbon or whiskey and I wasn't in the mood for either. My honey got one also with onion rings. Our food came super quick and everything was piping hot. The sandwich was amazing, the djionaise on it really set the flavor off along with the toasted Texas toast bread. It came with smashed up better made plain chips on it but honestly it didn't need them. The sandwich was enormous, I had to cut it in half to tackle it. It also came with a cup of pickle slices, very tasty and tangy. My toes were abundant, hot, salty and crispy. The milkshake was huge and soooo good! Very creamy and decadent and the toasted marshmallow on top was the perfect touch, so gooey! Wait was supposed to be 35 min but was much shorter. It was cozy inside but a bit of a draft whenever people opened the door. Waitress was fast and attentive. I used to come here fairly regularly when I worked nearby, so I'm kind of surprised I had never written a review. We visited on a beautiful summer day, so we wanted to sit outside on the spacious patio. It's nothing fancy, but it was perfect for our needs. At first, there was some confusion over which server was covering our table, but after that was resolved, we were well taken care of by Hannah. I went for the French Onion burger, which is exactly what it sounds like and was quite delicious. My wife is an olive lover, so she went for their Flint burger. I've wanted to hit this place up for years. I found out about their grilled bologna sandwich. Order the sandwich with no sides but I did add Mayo. When it was served I honestly was underwhelmed. It looked small and sparse. I didn't Oder any sides or add ons. WOW! So delicious and satisfying. the thin slices of bologna are crisp like bacon. My friend had the not a burger salmon burger and said she would drive from Downriver again just for the sandwich. I had the California turkey and it was seasoned to perfection. Not the salt laden seasoning that many places offer. My granddaughter had the cheddar burger and absolutely loved every bite. Onion rings were great and the chili cheddar tots were very good. The tater tots, however, tasted dry (maybe a bit over cooked?), which was a bummer. Drinks were good. I like Mercury. I hit this place up about once every couple of months. This time, it was around 3:00 in the afternoon for a late lunch/early dinner. They have a limited selection of draught beer, but they usually have one or two unique ones on the menu. I ordered the Maurice Salad. I have been on a roll lately with Maurice Salads. This one was very good and large. It was a perfect size since I wasn't planning to eat dinner. The dressing was really good and they had chopped hardboiled eggs (which is normal, but so many places either serve it as 1/4s, or sliced - I like them chopped). No one came to take our order, when they did after being told to the waitress still went to and took orders at another table that came in after us then came to us. I brought my mom and my grandmother here after a 4-hour drive from Toronto. It's located right in Corktown. There's a really nice patio with heated lamps for the fall nights. My mom really loves hamburgers so I decided to bring her here. This is my second time here, but the 1st time I actually sat inside the restaurant. We really enjoyed everything. I had the BLT, chili cheese fries and a vanilla milkshake. Everyone else had some type of burger. There was complete silence at the table and absolutely no complaints. I think the only thing that we were upset about is that the kitchen ran out of of onion rings prior to our arrival. At any rate, I highly recommend this restaurant if you are craving burgers, chicken sandwiches, chili cheese fries and/or milkshakes. read more
