    Grand Trunk Pub, Detroit

Way too hot to be walking the streets of downtown Detroit in July. I let Yelp point me to a nearby drinking establishment with great reviews. I was not disappointed! Warm service sitting at the bar where I managed to crank out a few Yelp reviews while enjoying their very find air conditioning, two frosty (LOCAL MICHIGAN!) beers and a place of fried pickles. Quite a lot of them and they were excellent. Rounds, not spears. Lightly breaded and plenty hot. There were enough here for three! A wonderful spot with a fab history. Originally built in 1879 as a jewelry store, the building became a Grand Trunk Railway ticket station in 1905, featuring a vaulted ceiling and ornate plasterwork to reflect the elegance of train travel. In 1935, it was transformed into a bar by the Metropole Hotel. [Round number 400 in Michigan - 693 of 2025 - 24254 overall]

Started with the spinach dip and... yeah, that's a no from me. Not something I'd come back for. One friend got a taco and loved it so much she ordered a second. Another friend tried the chicken bites and said they were good. Drinks were decent. The staff? A little all over the place. I couldn't tell who my bartender actually was or who my tip even went to. Overall, not sure this spot is worth a return trip for me.

The food here was delicious, especially the crispy fries and cheese curds. The service was excellent and friendly, and the ambience was absolutely amazing. We had a great experience and will definitely be back!

I had a the Reuben with fries and my bf had the chicken and waffles. Everything was delicious. We come here a lot and everyone is always super nice. Elise is amazing!! It's a quiet pub to have good and watch the game.

Stopped in again as we were downtown for Xmas skating and festivities. Had some beers as they have good selection and just love the ambiance of this place. Our server was super nice as well, as always.

This wonderful and wildly fun place is great! We loved the beer options of Kosst lager on tap or the Grand Trunk beer itself. Both cold and crisp and fantastic. These preztel bites were amazingly good. We suggest ordering two of them. The bartender Chris was wonderful and she knew all about art history as she studies this and got her degree on this. Was so nice to chit-chat about Diego Rivera and Frieda so nonchalantly. Shawn was also a standout bartender and made us feel so included and was welcoming to us! We chose Detroit to vacation from LA for places just like this that make you not only feel good but like a local! My husband and I can't wait to be back.

Very awesome Irish styles pub with excellent food like their spicy salmon sandwich and you can also swap out the fries with orzo. They also serve a very nice hibiscus tea drink and exceptional tomato bisque soup. Great service and the interior is super stylish and historic looking. Highly recommended!

This was our second time here. It's a pub. So it's a little rustic, and nothing fancy. But the drinks are great as is the service! We've thoroughly enjoyed it both times. This time I had the loaded bloody mary with mini grilled cheese sandwiches. While the grilled cheese sandwiches were cold (not the greatest), the other garnishes were yummy, and the bloody mary came in a much larger size than the.regular. Worth the money (especially if they could heat up those grilled cheese!)

We stopped in to this friendly, lively local bar. Which may or may not be a dive bar. The service and staff were always very friendly. We would have beers and ordered a couple apps to munch on. We split the cheese curds that were deep fried. And we tried the beet hummus dip. Both came a large portions, easy to split with 2 people. Very fun place for a drink if your Downtown Detroit. Did I mention it was an old train station? Yep it's cool

    The Irish stew was good!

I liked how you used a part of the train for the table, and the atmosphere is very old school Detroit. They take pride in their train history!

We came in sat at the bar and got our drinks in an instant. Our server was quick and got the job done. I ordered a whiskey and Coke 10/10 because Maker's Mark and Coke don't miss. Very disappointing first experience…read more My companion and I visited McShane's in Corktown for the first time and sat down at the bar. We waited approximately 3-4 minutes while the bartender talked with other staff and lingered nearby. During that time, he never acknowledged us, never made eye contact, never said "I'll be right with you," and never asked if we wanted anything to drink. He was close enough to know we were there, and we were clearly new customers sitting at the bar with no drinks in front of us. After waiting without even a simple greeting, we decided to leave and try the outdoor bar instead. I asked the bartender outside if he was the bartender, and he said yes. He remained seated, continued talking with a group of women, and again made no effort to ask what we wanted or explain how service worked. I even mentioned that we were new there, but that didn't change anything. At that point, we decided to leave altogether. As we were leaving, instead of trying to help or understand why we were walking away, the interaction became dismissive and argumentative. I don't expect instant service, especially if a bar is busy. I do expect the basic courtesy of being acknowledged. A simple "I'll be with you in a minute" would have been enough. Instead, we were left feeling unwelcome and ignored by two different bartenders. We took our business elsewhere, and unfortunately, our first impression of McShane's was that new customers simply weren't a priority.

But if you know crowds are coming when shows let out... you've gotta be ready for it. Two bartenders for a packed bar just wasn't cutting it. I waited about 20 minutes for a drink and eventually just gave up, which is frustrating when you're trying to enjoy a night out. And the one drink I did get earlier honestly looked like a sample cup. The place felt kinda dirty and weirdly quiet (before the rush)? Like super dark (which I get, dive bar) but no music or energy to balance it out. It just felt off. I've been here a few times now hoping it would hit different, but it hasn't yet. If you're the owner reading this, I'd just say plan for those post-show rushes. Even one more bartender and a little boost in atmosphere would go a long way. I'll probably still swing back because of the location, but man... I'd love to actually enjoy it next time.

My sister had the Honest John's hard cider that was on draft. It wasn't as sweet, but it was good as well. I had the grilled johnny john sandwich -- chicken, swiss cheese, tomatoes, lettuce on grilled pita. It was very filling; I only ate half! My sister had the chicken Caesar wrap, with the same result.
