I want to start by saying how amazing this joint is! It is one of the real deal Detroit feels for a bar. I came here for an event and loved it. They have non-alcoholic beer and that is perfect for me as I do not drink. My sister had a drink and it looked great! The space was nice and perfect spot to go and have a drink. The service was amazing and the staff were helpful with placing drink orders. I definitely would come hang out here if in the DTD area.

I visited this spot inside the Indigo hotel with a group of Yelpers for a Halloween event. The Trolley Room was a good size, featuring a space for a DJ, and the staff were very pleasant. A special shout-out to the bartenders--they crafted generous drinks. While the decor could use some improvement and the small hors d'oeuvres were just average, the space could be made cozier. However, the location is fantastic, so if you're in the neighborhood, it's definitely worth a visit! 4 out of 5.

Cool menu!

Located in the indigo hotel. Went there for opening day. The menu reflected the day. The food was tasty, but I didn't care for the nachos. Service was decent for how crowded they were. I had to wait quite a bit to get a drink, but the place is fun and had a lively atmosphere.

Jenise and Jazmin were wonderful. Great bartenders and servers! Chicken sandwich was amazing, and fries were perfect. Local bar vibe in a hotel, which feels like a unicorn.

I liked the space, I would definitely recommend if you're staying at the hotel. There was plenty of seating and it was comfortable. The bartenders were great and the drinks were strong and then menu was good. It seemed like most of the cocktails were rum or bourbon based which isn't my preference, but the rose cocktail was good.

Quick service out of the kitchen and the bar. The chicken sandwich is legitimately the best I have had. It topped the salmon.

Probably didn't write a review sooner because I never thought it needed it, but I want to really give them their roses. Yes, it is a dive bar. But it is two levels of fantastic. Reasonably priced drinks in a world gone so mad that an old fashioned is $20 nowadays, really good food (try their burgers, very good or their wings, booyah!) and while I should give them 1 star for this, the only bad thing about them is that it's a spot for Arsenal supporters (Go Blues!) LOL. One of the best parts of the bar is that they offer shuttles to the major venues for their events. Why I usually start here before every Lions or Tigers game I go to. Regarding service, the bartenders are usually fun, and I am a fan of all of them. They provide great service even when they are packed. If you go in wanting fun and a good time, you won't be disappointed.

I walked up not sure if it was even open but a haggard looking woman carrying a bunch of shit popped out and carried on down the road. I knew it was open. When I walked in I was greeted by a friendly bartender with glasses and a handlebar mustache. There were maybe 3 or 4 other people at the bar I could see. A couple more in the back patio. This is a real great bar. They have a pool table, full bar, and great beer selection. Not a huge selection but a good one. Plus it was a gay bar and I couldn't even tell. Great place welcoming everyone. Support local! Cheers!

But if you know crowds are coming when shows let out... you've gotta be ready for it. Two bartenders for a packed bar just wasn't cutting it. I waited about 20 minutes for a drink and eventually just gave up, which is frustrating when you're trying to enjoy a night out. And the one drink I did get earlier honestly looked like a sample cup. The place felt kinda dirty and weirdly quiet (before the rush)? Like super dark (which I get, dive bar) but no music or energy to balance it out. It just felt off. I've been here a few times now hoping it would hit different, but it hasn't yet. If you're the owner reading this, I'd just say plan for those post-show rushes. Even one more bartender and a little boost in atmosphere would go a long way. I'll probably still swing back because of the location, but man... I'd love to actually enjoy it next time.

I thought the saloon-type entry doors were a fun touch. I liked the atmosphere, too. The menu is wide-ranging, from breakfast any time to burgers, salads and sandwiches. I don't drink alcohol often, but I noticed they had a good selection of hard cider. I decided to get the one that was on the top of the menu -- something with pineapple. It was sweet but very good. My sister had the Honest John's hard cider that was on draft. It wasn't as sweet, but it was good as well. I had the grilled johnny john sandwich -- chicken, swiss cheese, tomatoes, lettuce on grilled pita. It was very filling; I only ate half! My sister had the chicken Caesar wrap, with the same result. We ordered some plain fries to share. Those weren't anything special. All in all, I liked the restaurant and would go back.

The kind of place where you can show up for brunch, dinner, or just drinks and know you're going to have a good time. I ordered the pattie melt, and let me tell you -- it did not disappoint. Perfectly cooked, juicy, and loaded with flavor, with that golden grilled bread and melty goodness that makes every bite better than the last. It's comfort food done right. And the frozen mimosa? So good. Refreshing, smooth, and dangerously easy to sip. It's the kind of drink that makes you want to stay for "just one more." Between the food, the drinks, and the fun atmosphere, Honest John's is a whole vibe. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to -- and bringing friends with me next time.

Other amenities including a fully operational porcelain sink in the middle of the bar for patrons that need a quick rinse (something that I didn't realize was super convenient. Why has this not been adopted elsewhere?), and a giant metal still of fresh water readily available for thirsty patrons (if you can't get it to shut off, plug it with your finger and ask a regular before you really off the bartender, which is to be expected). A perfectly priced order of a beer with a whisky chaser, along with a can of red wine, and an order of fries was the perfect way to celebrate the occasion. Rehashing, once again, our unconventional story led to us trying to figure out what was happening within the different social circles of the room. This was both entertaining and worrisome at the same time (obviously none of our business, but we left hoping the best for everyone involved lol). Not sure if the reincarnation of Log Lady is a regular, but I am pretty sure I heard her say "it's happening again" from the corner of the room. 10/10 recommend after a major life purchase. 4 stars. This is an update to my previous review of HopCat Detroit…read more I still love the food and the lively, energetic ambiance here. The fresh, flavorful meals and the downtown vibe make it one of my favorite spots to grab a bite or hang out with friends. That said, I want to elaborate on my not-so-great dine-in experience from before. One night I decided to eat in, and while my waitress was genuinely nice and attentive, the experience took a weird turn when my meal was brought out. The guy delivering it just walked past me, dropped the plate on the table with a loud clank, and didn't greet me or even acknowledge me at all. It was jarring -- not only did it feel careless, but it completely broke the warm, fun vibe I'd come in expecting. On top of that, I had the app downloaded to earn rewards points, but my waitress never added them, which was frustrating enough that I ended up deleting the app. That one visit definitely stood out as an exception in an otherwise positive history with this location. Since then, I've had better experiences with staff, and the food and overall energy of the place continue to shine. Despite that one odd incident, I still highly recommend HopCat for the atmosphere, creative menu, and fresh food. I'll continue coming back and will share more updates (and pics) along the way.
