    Shrimp Poboy

Six of us arrived right at opening time with a reservation and were met with amazing hospitality right away. The host was so nice and accommodating to give us just the right table that suited one of us who uses a cane to get around. Zoey soon appeared to provide exceptional service. We ordered grits, the seasonal Shrimp Poboy, Burnt Ends, Kale salads, fried chicken and cocktails. Everything was AMAZING. Kale is really nothing to get excited about, but this salad was fire! So, so good just like a Neil Diamond song. The grits were very tasty as well. The vibe is very positive here with a charming ambiance. The experience was so great that my sister enjoyed a solo lunch the next day here. Definitely a highlight of our trip to Detroit!

Perfect place to walk to after a DSO show. Went for lunch after morning show. Had reservations although probably didn't need and was seated immediately. The service was great and fast. Introduced entire menu to us. The hush puppies were outstanding. The sauce they serve with was so good, I asked for some with my chicken. I would go back for this dish alone. Fried chicken is good. Green beans were okay.

Stopped in for lunch with a few friends. Service was excellent. Quick, attentive, and friendly. Cool vibe in there; not busy when we went. Now onto the food. I had high hopes for the chicken, but it fell flat. I ordered the drumsticks. Almost zero crisp to the coating was disappointing. Additionally, it needed a bit more seasoning. It was fine. It was not bad at all. It just didn't stand out and I wanted some crisp. I also tried the chicken sandwich. This was a bit better, but again, the chicken was the worst part. The honey was great (didn't detect any heat though). I also ordered the spoonbread which was a bit dry, but had pretty good flavor. The best bite I had was from the green beans which was very very good (highly recommend). Overall, the food was fine, but nothing special.

Quick find close to our hotel in heart of Detroit. So glad this meal was everything a very hungry gal needed! The chicken sandwich with and order of fries was handed over freshly made, hot! The piece of chicken was plump, juicy, crunchy and bursting with such seasoned flavor! I typically need more spread on a sandwich but ther was more than enough spicy mayo with the slaw that meshed well. The slaw wasn't no ordinary topping either.. spice no tang! Oh and those garlic herbed doused fries with aioli ... hand- dipping crazy delight!

How many reviews will I end up giving this very Welcoming Restaurant..... We are beginning to know the staff. First A friend of ours is Moving and a few of us "ladies" wanted a " gonna miss You " dinner. Actually girls night out....Eagles was the ONLY Restaurant in Downtown Detroit that was willing to offer private seating and... ( this is HUGE) give individual checks. That worth 10 s alone. The way staff was Welcoming, Travis and personally steps in to let Yiu know You are important. Travis leads a Good Team....our group was kinda "askie" yet Shira our Waitress went past anything expected to make everyone feel special Because there were 11 of us she confirmed everyones order. The Bar tender the Staff that cleared the table did everything " just so" My only fear in posting this review is that everyone will go,and I won't be able to get back in... Oh the food Well see the photos You can't go wrong, GO

Very good with lots of flavor .. if you love flavor you will love this comfort food. Reasonable prices and savory. I'm a sit a the bar girl so great interaction with the bar tender so love the service from Govan.. Ambiance very nice booths and plenty of seats to enjoy the people watching on Woodward.

We were quickly seated and greeted which was wonderful for a busy Friday night. Our drinks were just okay -- we ordered a pitcher and when it arrived it didn't taste like much of a cocktail so we sent it back and just ordered cocktails. Our dinner was good. I especially enjoyed the burnt ends that came with a delicious ranch dipping sauce. And the spoon bread is a must to accompany the fried chicken with the hot honey sauce!

Holy moly this food is incredible. We ordered 1/4 chicken-dark meat, spoon bread, collards, and shrimp and grits. Where do I start-the chicken was so well seasoned and when hot honey is added it is out of this world. The shrimp and grits were savory and spicy and a bite of collards cuts through the richness and adds freshness to the spread. The spoon bread was absolutely incredible as well. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We will absolutely be back.

Stopped in here last night and had heard such great things about it. We had a reservation and were sat quickly. Unfortunately, our drinks took about 20 minutes (2 lemonades) to get to our table and our appetizers came out at different times. The hush puppies were fresh and hot. Once we got our entrees, one of the appetizers came out with it but majority of the food was cold. I got the chicken sandwich, which was probably the best meal out of everyone's. For the sides: -Mac and cheese lacked flavor -The biscuits were thick, which was nice -The fries were cold Our server was nice, which helped the other issues. Overall, it was an okay experience but I wasn't fairly impressed.

The service was good but I can't say I loved the food. The place is conveniently located on Woodward so you can grab a bite to eat before you head out to any event going on downtown. They are a sister restaurant to Bakersfield's, which is located across the street just down one block. I inhaled my food only because I was starving. The chicken is chicken and the Mac and cheese is plain noodles with a cheese sauce spread ontop with some bread crumbs. I came here during happy hour. It was empty so I easily grabbed a seat at the bar. The bartender was attentive and helpful. It's a spacious place with plenty of seating and TVs to catch any game you'd like to watch. I paid my bill and left my drink on the counter. Would I come back? Nah! One star for the service and another one for the cleanliness of the restaurant.

The Eagle Detroit located on Woodward Ave Downtown Detroit, MI Food: My group ordered two (2) chopped Cobb salads and the Spicy Chicken Dip. The dip was delicious, I wish they had larger portions nevertheless delicious! The Chopped Salad was delicious also full of all kinds of veggies and a great dressing. Service: Great service, friendly and accommodating. Ambiance: I loved the wooden accent throughout this establishment. Large bar area and plenty table seating.

You expect the food not to be lukewarm if you're the only patrons! Manager didn't supply the happy hour menu and it was 3:45, happy hour starts at 4. Ambiance was cozy and walking distance from LCA

Stopped in however didn't have reservations. We were able to get a seat but they asked that we keep it short. We were willing to do so since there was reservations for the table in an hour. The wait staff was polite and helpful. The food was great. Not sure you can get bad food here. The spicy honey sauce was amazing. The Mac n cheese is creamy. It was all good. Not a huge place but felt like it was the perfect size. They do have a large bar as well. Great stop! Get reservations on the weekend.

From the second you walk in, it's obvious this place isn't just another bar -- it's a neighborhood hangout with serious personality. The rustic-brick interior and laid-back energy set the tone perfectly for a night out with friends or a chill stop before hitting other downtown spots. The menu is packed with attention-grabbing comfort bar food that goes way beyond typical pub grub -- think flavorful sandwiches, crispy fries, and dishes that pair insanely well with a cold drink. One of the best parts? Wednesday night trivia. It's the kind of event that turns a midweek night into a destination night. Trivia kicks off in the evening and runs until the fun's done, complete with drink specials (like discounted pitchers and fun cocktails) and a crowd that's all about playing hard and laughing harder. Whether you're a regular trivia team or just looking to make new friends, it's a blast and a perfect reason to mark your calendar every week. The drinks lineup here is solid too -- from craft beers on tap to creative cocktails -- and the bartenders know what they're doing whether you're asking for something classic or bold. AMBIENCE - definitely a hip spot, not too dark, not too light. the hosts were very friendly and accommodating as we hit some traffic on our way in and had to switch our reservations to 40 minutes later. We ended up being placed on the "veranda" which was an enclosed space with about 4-5 tables. They had heaters, but fortunately, it was warm enough that they were not needed. SERVICE - my friend made it well known that we were there for my birthday, but I'd like to think even without the birthday drop, we would have gotten great service. Our server was friendly, attentive and made a number of recommendations to help guide our dining experience. MENU - Grey ghost has a rotating menu, with a few items that our consistently featured (I'll talk about my burger later). An interesting array of starters including brussel sprouts and coconut shrimp as well as a great variety of main entrees. I feel like there was something for all tastes at this place. They also had a good variety of cocktails and mocktails. FOOD - We started off with shrimp tempura which had a tropical salad of some sort served with it. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the tropical salad really complimented it very well. We also decided to try their home made Rock and Rye (their take on Faygo's marquee drink of the same name). The Rock and Rye was decent, but if you want rock and rye, nothing beats the original. For our main dishes, a number of things caught our eye. including the lamb and ribeye, but we ended up going with their burger and a side of fries and their wild boar pappardelle. I've heard Grey Ghost has one of the best burgers in Detroit, and it did not disappoint. And you know we had put an egg on it and it was rocking. I don't know what the burger sauce they put on it was, but it seemed like a much, MUCH better executed big mac. The fries were great as well. The pappardelle was good, nothing mind blowing, but a solid entree in it's own right. I was curious how the burger here compares to the one at their sister restaurant (Little Ghost) and the host said the quality of meat used in the patty is better at Grey Ghost than little ghost. Guess I'm going to have to go there as well. OVERALL - definitely worth a visit. I'd say a good spot for a first date, or some other sort of special occasion. I won't wait as long to make a trip back to this place, that's for sure. CELEBRITY RATING - Collin Jost

Lauren took great care of us and encouraged us to order whatever we were craving. Dangerous advice, but we happily accepted . Warning - the ratings are real. They're not a mistake. We started with our usual cocktail, the Instant Karma (5/5). It is the perfect balance of citrus and salt with a light cucumber note. Clean, refreshing, and it pairs well with everything. The roasted sweet potato (6/5) is one of the best vegetable dishes in the city. The caramelized exterior gives way to a soft interior, and the crispy quinoa adds a subtle light crunch that plays against the creamy texture. The salsa macha brings a smoky, nutty depth without the heat, and the crema ties it all together. I had to physically stop myself from scraping the plate (actually they had to take it away ). The tagliatelle (5/5) with beef bolognese and parmesan was flawless. The pasta has that ideal handmade chew, and the bolognese is rich without being heavy. The parmesan blends perfectly into the sauce and stands out in every bite. The potato pierogi (10/5) were the star of the night. Soft potato-filled pillows with horseradish crema, apple, and crispy shallot pieces create this perfect sweet, tangy, creamy, and crunchy bite. Each forkful felt intentional and balanced. I felt guilty, because in my head, I didn't want to share with my wife, but I did anyways . The cruelty of having to split an odd number of pierogis...well played...we should have just ordered another one. We also ordered the smoked potatoes and the pan roasted half chicken with sauce au poivre (always 5/5 for both) The smoked potatoes, with raclette, and crème fraîche, are always a must. These winter variation was just as good! The chicken remains one of the most consistently well-executed mains in the city. I have tried recreating it at home with the cold pan method and it never comes close. Every time we dine here, it feels like four or five different dinner experiences in one evening. Selden Standard continues to set the bar for us in Detroit. We love the staff, the food, and the memories tied to this place. Cheers to many more amazing years to come!

My husband surprised me with a birthday dinner here, and I'm glad that we got to experience it. We arrived in advance of our reservation and grabbed a seat at the bar. The bartender brought us a glass of wine while we waited. It took about a half hour, but we were shown to our table for the night and promptly greeted by our server. All of the food looked amazing, both on the menu and with what people were ordering at other tables. We chose a variety of dishes - cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, squid ink orecchiette, octopus, mushrooms, and scallops. I would recommend all of them, but the standouts for me were the Brussels sprouts and the scallops. Flavors were unique and textures were especially on point with those dishes. Service was good, but we both felt like it was slow. There was a slight glitch in the beginning of the night where the host stand didn't mark that we had checked in when we actually had, which probably contributed to the half hour wait at the bar. Aside from those points, it was an impeccable night!

So this is kind of like an upscale dive bar if you thought about a '60s type of style to it. If…read morethat makes any sense. We have a lot of retro vibe going on, but it has a little hint of modernness though with the history. You'll come in and and you'll hear music playing in the background and it's a little bit aged, but it's a really chill vibe and it's not going to be the party kind of music you're looking for. Which is okay if that's not what you want! I have no issue with the service and everybody was pretty cool. The waitress was super friendly, especially when I couldn't make up my mind because there are so many options lol. It's tree pockets so you have to park on Michigan Ave but there is plenty of it. Depending on what kind of day or night it is though. But just be aware you have to pay for parking. Seasoned fries - the fries come very seasoned and super crispy. You get a ton of them as well. You may not even need ketchup actually. French onion - this burger was good. Came with some onion rings kinda on the side. It was cooked medium and they got it pretty right with the temp. The cheese was melted well and it was seasoned pretty good also. Blt - this was a good BLT and it was very stacked. I'm not sure if you can make it out from the picture but it had plenty of everything on here. The bacon tasted great. Tots - they came out really hot and super crispy and actually gave you a heck of a lot of them too so that definitely helped but these are really good and you didn't even need ketchup.

We were in town for the weekend and trying to check out some iconic Detroit items. Per my research…read morethis was a good place to try a Boston Cooler (vanilla ice cream and vernor's ginger ale). We were nearby after brunch and walked the few minutes down to Mercury Bar's corner. Given the weather outside, we would have taken any place that had four walls and basic heating but the aesthetic of MB was fun, kinda like a retro diner. We took a seat at the bar. Since the Boston cooler was already decided, we just needed to pick out a beverage. I briefly considered trying one of their draught beers but then remembered that would not be good for the bladder and we were a ways from the hotel. They have creative cocktails so that made it easy. We ordered both the (and this is from memory because they savagely don't have a cocktail menu online) cherry poppins (cherry whiskey, neither of us remember what else was in it other than the chardonnay float which was very interesting) and a basil ?italian margarita with blackberry. Both were very strongly flavored, not for child-like palates. The Boston cooler, btw, was BETTER THAN SEX. Good thing that shit isn't anywhere near where I live that could be dangerous. We didn't try any of the food but it looked delicious especially the pile of fries I saw on some plates as they were coming out for other patrons. Good spot I'm glad we parked here for some of our afternoon.

Fantastic! Enthusiastic staff and perfect food. Cornbread can be hit or miss in general. This…read morecornbread is perfection. Crispy, soft, sweet, buttery. The lamb chops were top tier (that's what I ate) but the fried chicken that my wife had was mind blowing. I'm not generally given to hyperbole. Seriously: try this chicken. I purchased gift cards during Covid to help support local restaurants during shut down, and I was pleasantly surprised that we could still use them in 2026! We had tried to use them in 2022, but were told the restaurant was small and could not accommodate our party of 8, even early on a Sunday. Fast forward 4 years! We made a reservation for a party of 4. It would've been nice to know the restaurant was on the second floor with no elevator, but perhaps that is my lack of inquiry. We were warmly greeted. Our server was absolutely fantastic! She made wonderful recommendations, and our meal was delicious! We had the crab dip, cornbread muffins, fried chicken and catfish entrees with yams and collard greens. Our family is from the South (KY, NC, TN, VA, MS, & AL) and we cook southern food on a regular basis. The yams were perfectly cooked and sweetened. The collard greens had just enough density, not runny or too salty. YUM!!! The chicken was tasty and moist. Catfish was seasoned and prepared perfectly and absolutely delicious also. Served with Frank's! We finished it off with the skillet cookie dessert, shared by all. A great way to end a really wonderful meal. The restaurant wasn't busy, so food service could've been a little faster, but we enjoyed a leisurely early dinner. My only other comment is that with glass top tables, you almost have to use Windex when tables turn over. The water streaks on all the glass top just make it look more like a greasy spoon or diner and does not do justice to the great service or the quality of the food. I don't usually do catfish at home, so we will be back for more!
