The design of this restaurant is amazing it gives you a warm and inviting feel. The overall atmosphere feels great for a family meal out, fun with friends or even date night. The food was ok! I went for the fried chicken because the pictures I've seen were amazing. I was disappointed I was expecting crunchy and mouthwatering fried chicken. The chicken was good the best thing I had rivaling only the fries. The chicken reminds me of kfc original chicken but way more juicy. The Mac and cheese was bah, it was bland and needs some soul poured into it. The greens were not cooked long enough and whoever made them didn't make pot liquor first. The server recommended the spoon bread over the biscuits and I should have listened these biscuits were sooo dry. The best way to describe the service we received would be "unwanted step children". The server was overwhelmed with a party and basically ignored us we had to ask for everything and it took forever to come. We asked for hot sauce and got it when we were ready to go. We were never offered a refill on our drinks, no one asked how the food was. I would probably not return unless I have a coupon or it's free. Save your money and time and go to Gus. read more

Spur of the moment order. I didn't even know this restaurant was there....the entire area has been revitalized. Ordered the fried chicken. Food was great, wish I would have ordered more. I really enjoyed their cocktail lemonade, it was so delicious! The service was really great, the appetizers were taking a little longer than expected but the manager came up to us and assured us that they would be out in no time! New kid on the block and he's a big boy! I originally went to the grand opening about a week ago and it was a solid experience. If you've ever been to a gastropub where it looks like they sell more drinks, all you gotta do is add fried chicken (sandwiches) and rural vibe and you are inside the restaurant mentally. The owners were available that day, obviously, and both them and the servers checked in and followed up often enough. Now for the food. Any fried chicken there is going to be " fried hard" and it's moderately seasoned with a noticeable kick of spice. If you want to add fun to the chicken, pour some of their hot honey on for sweet heat just hot enough to explore their variety of beers, cocktails, and flavored lemonades. I was mildly disappointed in the sweet potato casserole. Some cinnamon sugar can easily fix the dish. Overall, I enjoy the category and this restriction adds to the midtown area which is already full of diversity from international, upscale, and even the 24 hour guilty pleasure one block over. Chicken is currently king in the food market and it's great that Detroit has a spot for chicken sandwiches within its college district. read more

Stopped by The Eagle after a DSO performance. Thought it would be quick and delicious. Quick it was not. Service was a bit slow though staff was pleasant and attentive. Went for the chicken and ended up ordering the spoon bread (served in a cast iron skillet), collard greens and horseradish mashed potatoes with gravy. The chicken was seasoned well, clearly brined with a skin that lacked some crisp. The spoon bread was a highlight with roasted corn kernels as the base. ALMOST 5 stars. The Eagle takes pride in their chicken but it was my least favorite part. The chicken's flavor was spectacular but the texture was not a hit (seemed like it came from an older batch). Fantastic southern style food. This was my favorite restaurant when I lived in Columbus, and I'm so happy to see it in Detroit. Great prices, so you can try a lot of menu items and not break the bank, and still take some home for later. The service here is unmatched. Everyone on staff seems to really care about your experience and works to make everything perfect. Our server, Jordan, was the nicest person and so good at her job. I love The Eagle, and frequent the Bardstown location in Louisville. This was my first visit to the Detroit location. I loved it! I was visiting Detroit for the first time in 20 years, and was astounded by the revitalization. Great to see an amazing restaurant like The Eagle added to the city's comeback. Our meal was superb (the Fried Chicken BLT was to die for), and the ambience was great (there was a birthday party going on that had the whole place jumping). Our server Maria was excellent (the best I've had at any of the three Eagles I've been to), and the manager came over and chatted too. All in all, an excellent time in an excellent restaurant. Smooth, velvety sauce and spiral pasta and moist tender corn bread with a delicate maple butter, both cooked and served in a cast iron skillet. Our waitress Ashanti was great, super positive and helpful when ordering! The menu is on the smaller side, but mainly because they know what they can do, and they do it well. We got two drinks; the blackberry lemonade and the mint and rye. The blackberry lemonade was a 9.5/10, just the right amount of sweetness and not too strong. The mint rye was a 7.5/10 a bit bitter but a nice twist on a classic whiskey and rye! For main courses we indulged in the fried chicken sandwich, the fried chicken BLT, and the braised pork sandwich. The fried chicken sandwich was MOUTHWATERING. perfectly crispy chicken paired with a soft rustic bread. The chicken BLT you can't go without! The avocado relish was the icing on the cake. The braised pork sandwich was like butter, and melted in your mouth in one bite. For sides we ordered the spoon bread, mac and cheese, and French fries. The spoon bread has the crispy sides and pieces of caramelized corn bits in the middle, all topped with a melted maple butter. The mac and cheese had almost a bacon kick to it. It was amazing! We liked how it appeared they took al dente noodles and took their famous 5 cheese sauce, spread it on top and garnished with a healthy helping of garlic breadcrumbs. The fries were fried beautifully and had a house seasoning on it. Make sure to ask for a side of their lemon thyme ranch because it was a great combination with the fries! What a great new gem we found! My husband is from southern VA and I try to find places that offer some good southern food and finding The Eagle made him so happy. Not only was everyone so friendly, the food was the closest we've gotten to yummy southern food. They just opened this location in September, so everything inside still looks clean and inviting. Tonya was so sweet and walked through the menu with us. The grilled cheese did not disappoint but that pressure fried chicken that they do, is amazing. Still has some crisp to it on the outside but man is is juicy on the inside and the brine they use is fantastic! They have a really nice long list of yummy sounding sides. The seasoning of the succotash is great, the shrimp and grits had an amazing flavor to them as well (shrimp were overcooked) but our favorite was the collard greens. Cooked with ham hocks and ACV it was salty but tart with the perfect touch of Smokey. Hands down best southern dish we've gotten up here and we will for sure be coming back! read more

Saturday afternoon. it was at maybe 1/3 to 1/2 capacity. they sat 6 adults and 2 kids at a small table. needed double the table size. no big deal. took forever to get us waters. after ordering beers and drinks, took FOREVER to bring them to us. we ordered the kids food with drinks to get them in, kids were starving. hinted twice that they were starving. still took forever. our meals took FOREVER and we were starving after an event at LCA. food was really good! The service was great. We arrived at 4 pm when they just opened and they seated us immediately without a reservation. The chicken was well seasoned, and the hot honey served as a great compliment. The macaroni and cheese had undercooked noodles and did not bake long enough. The sweet potatoes had diced potatoes that were undercooked as well. The cornbread was good. I had an apricot martini which was very good. Our server Eli was very attentive, and constantly checked to make sure we were okay.
