We started with Manchego y Membrillo, Aceitunas Mixtas and the BEST Tostada de Almogrote!!! We also enjoyed the incredible Patatas Bravas, flat iron steak, the Champiñones en Salsa Verde and their only available on Tuesdays Paella. The Paella had excellent flavor but ours only had two pieces of chorizo and no shrimp by luck and was a little disappointing. Excellent dinner at La Féria! Luis provided great service. We had a bottle of the house Cabernet which is a good value. Ordered the mixed salad, the grilled calamari, the baby octopus, the steak, and then chicken. All were excellent with great flavor. The bar side is extra cozy with a cool vibe. I'm a very picky vegetarian but I love a good Sangria. Last night we went to a play at the Hilberry Theatre and had an hour to kill. I knew exactly where I wanted to go! I've wanted to try this place for years as I'm acquainted with the owner, but the menu is not what I'd normally eat for a dinner. A snack, however, was absolutely perfect! My friend and I shared the Patatas Bravas and the Berenjenas Fritas and each has a glass of Sangria. Everything was amazingly good. The potatoes had the perfect amount of kick, the eggplant paired with the honey very nicely, and the Sangria...oh, wow, it was probably the best I've had. The food service an ambience of this location is absolutely charming. I love the fact that all of the dishes are of appetizer sizing and created to share. It has been quite a while since I've been here, but the one dish that they had that I have ordered on multiple occasion are the white fillet sardines. They are absolutely fabulous. My husband was born in Sevilla, Spain so while visiting Detroit and we saw the name of the restaurant we knew we had to visit. Truly authentic Spanish food. The Spanish wine was fantastic too. Our server was very kind and as we got to talking we enjoyed hearing his Mom started the restaurant and he has family in Sevilla. We enjoyed discussing visiting Spain and the culture. He was very kind and attentive and had great recommendations for food. The shrimp were amazing with a great sauce to dip bread in. I'm actually really surprised by the rating of this place. I ordered a pitcher of sangria that was 5 servings, two slices of baguette with cheese and ham. And a tapa of chicken and potatoes. Don't get me wrong, the flavor was tasty and it was yummy but I almost just stopped at Mcdonalds because I'm still hungry. The waiter was really great. He was very attentive but the bill was over $40. I don't mind an expensive dinner when I leave satisfied. I should never spend 40 on dinner and then want a $2 cheeseburger for substance- please note my photos have 1 order of the chicken and potatoes. 1 Spanish omelette, and 2 orders of the toast with various toppings. Not only in Detroit but maybe worldwide because I just got back from a week long trip to Spain and didn't have anything nearly was good as what you can get on a random weeknight at La Feria. Their standard menu is great with the highlights being the shrimp, steak, pintxos, and fried eggplant. Ask about the weekly special because it's usually not posted online or in the restaurant but often it's fantastic and worth coming in just to see what it is. As others have said, look out for the auto-grat and processing fees. I prefer to sit at the bar when I come but it's nice to come with a few people because then you can try more of the menu. The almond cake is a sleeper hit for sure if you like a more savory dessert. Salud! read more

Stopped here because it was on the way to a concert and close to our Airbnb while we stayed here in Detroit! The idea of getting some tapas before a concert was appealing so we decided to check this place out! One side of the place seemed to be closed off for a private event but when we walked in we were able to sit at a table almost immediately. Our server was very kind and attentive all night long:) We started off by ordering drinks and both had the Margarita with a salt rim and it was strong and delicious! The first tapa we ordered was the Tortilla Española which is a Spanish omelette, fried potatoes, onions, and roasted red peppers. It's on the cold tapas menu but was more room temp. We definitely liked this for the flavor and tasty level but wondered if we would like it more if it was warmed. Still a yummy dish! The second tapa we tried was Gambas Al Ajillo which is seared shrimp in spices and oil. They served it with four tiny pieces of bread which came in handy with the flavored oil. My boyfriend felt like there was a bit of heat with the chili flakes but I still think the flavor was absolutely delicious regardless. The Patatas Bravas were our safe bet for tapas because we all know you can't mess up a potato. These came with ketchup and garlic aioli drizzled over top and tiny toothpicks to grab the potatoes with :) loved that honestly. For dessert, we ordered the churros! I make a habit to try churros at any restaurant I can to find the most perfect churro and this churro came close. Love the ridges, the crunchy level, and the fact that it was served with only chocolate. Felt authentic and I could eat several of these so it's wonderful there were only four. At the end of the night our bills were accidentally messed up with another tables but thankfully that transaction was cancelled and ours went through normally. Not a big deal but thought I should mention it since the server was very apologetic and kind through the entire process. A truly special experience this restaurant is. If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would. I went here with my parents on a Tuesday evening to celebrate my 26th birthday early. It was my first time trying tapas, and probably my mother's 100th time since she just returned from a 3 week trip to Spain. We didn't eat a single dish that we didn't like. My favorite was the shrimp in garlic sauce, but the paella, garlic chicken, almond stuffed + bacon wrapped dates, and the salsa Verda sauce topped mushroom were all phenomenal. The music and decor were wonderful, and our server was just absolutely amazing. He made us laugh and made great conversation, checked in on us very regularly, making sure we had enough water, napkins. He was helpful with recommendations about the food and drinks, and even was as kind as to give my mom a complimentary glass of wine on him. It really touched my heart! I'm really big on service during a dining experience, so I can't thank our server enough, he made my birthday celebration there special. A big thank you to the owner/head chef as well, Pilar, since she is the mastermind behind all the delicious food. I'm gluten free due to food allergies (so many gf and vegan options here btw!) and our waiter even explained that the almond flour for the cake is handmade in house by her. I love a good tapas joint, and this is a very, very good tapas joint. The food is spectacular and fairly priced. It is located on a strip of hot, trendy restaurants surrounded by the standard Detroit mixture of urban blight and restoration. As I was just a visitor to Detroit, it's strange to see a mix of 5 star restaurants surrounded by abandoned buildings in various stages of decay. Kind of sad if you love that old northeastern architecture. Anyway, the only reason I'm taking a star off is because of the snooty host. I had gone to the Motown Museum, and called to see if we could get in. He said he could accommodate us in an hour. So, I asked if he wanted my name for the reservation. What ensued was an Abbot & Costello "Who's On First?" routine about what a reservation meant semantically. See, after much obfuscation, it turned out he wasn't telling us we could get a reservation in an hour. He was saying come in, and he'll try to get us in if he can, but it would most likely have to be at the bar. I explained that I had a 13 year old with me so could not legally sit at the bar, and he said that we would indeed need a table, but to come in when he said and maybe we could get in. It was a needless run around. Thankfully, when we showed up, the guy was slightly nicer while still being kind of stuck up and did get us a table in a reasonable amount of time. Would have been better if he just made a regular, normal reservation for us or said there are no reservations so you can come in but it could be thirty minutes or 2 hours wait. At least then we would know what we were up against. Anyway, on to the food. Everything we had was delicious. Service was fast and friendly. The TG Pollo al Ajillo or garlic chicken was excellente! The TG Sabor de Espana charcuterie Board was good & filling. We like charcuterie boards but rarely order them, as they are usually large and costly, but this one was reasonable and fit nicely into the meal. We got the two steaks. The Steak con mojo and the steak pimienta. They were ordered medium well but came out medium to medium rare. Of the two sauces, we liked the pimienta way more, but both were good. We ended up getting a second pimienta, which was cooked to the proper ordered temp this time, after we stressed the cook we wanted. The TG Gambas al Ajillo, or shrimp in garlic sauce, was okay but surprisingly kind of bland for a garlic sauce. Never had it at a tapas place or Spanish restaurant be this boring. Would not get that again. The Calamares Fritos was excellent; not greasy or oily. Finally, it was all paired with an $18 carafe of sangria. If four people were dining, you could each manage one glass out of the carafe. It's not expensive and it's not large. It also could be made with a stronger wine. It needed more of a kick or you need to drink a lot more of it. Considering I drank all four glasses alone, it clearly was weak. But, you have to have sangria with your tapas. They also supposedly have a paella night. I believe it is Tuesday, but you should check on this. I wish they offered paella every night, as I would've ordered it for sure. Then again, I guess they don't have the manpower for that every day. Shame! Still, I highly recommend this place for the food. It's also good for a first date kind of place. Kind of romantic though not terribly so. Just go early or late and otherwise expect to wait unless you can get a real reservation. I still can't tell you whether they take normal reservations and didn't have one available or whether it's just first come, first serve for everyone. Either way, it can get busy. The last time I was at La Feria + Cata Vino was in Winter 2019 for a dinner with work colleagues. Nineteen months later, all of us fully vaccinated gathered again, and it was wonderful to return to some semblance of normalcy as we enjoyed our dinner on the outdoor patio. As this is a tapas restaurant, we shared a variety of plates from the menu. My favorites remain the same but everything on the menu is delicious and worth a try. It is best to bring a large party so you can try a bit of everything from each category on the menu. I highly recommend the Tostadas de Almogrote, Berenjenas Fritas, Patatas Bravas, Gambas al Ajilla, Chorizo, Tocino Relleno de Datil, Champinones en Salsa Verde, and Sabor de Espana charcuterie board. All very shareable and delicious. Eat it with an order of sangria and you'll feel like you're in Spain instead of Cass Avenue. Service was excellent and staff still wear masks. The atmosphere when we first walked in was amazing. It felt like an old little restaurant in Spain even though it is in a newer building. The staff was very friendly. We had a table by the window, so we could see the city go by. The food was amazing. I can't list everything here, but every tapa we tried was delicious. We went on a day when they had paella. I highly recommend getting it if you can. The only minor downside was that because it's a small restaurant, the end of our evening was a bit rushed. They had another large party that needed our table. It was understandable because we were a bit slow and one person in our group arrived about 15 minutes late for the reservation. That was the only part of the night that didn't feel like a true Spanish experience. I definitely plan to go again when I'm back in Detroit. read more

I've been to La Feria before and after a life-changing trip to Spain's Basque country, with their equivalent of tapas ("pintxos"). And bar none, it is one of the most authentic and best ways I get to relive that trip over and over. While our food culture in the U.S. is starkly different from Spain (food laws, sourcing, etc.), La Feria does a very good job at transporting you away for a couple hours. In Spain, the tapas are served in bars plentifully, made with hyperlocal ingredients and it's a Cheers type experience. Red wine, white wine and alcoholic cider flow freely. While curated through servers and a menu instead (it's self-serve and an honesty policy in Spain), at La Feria, this holds true. On the menu are perennial favorites of boquerones (white anchovies), patatas bravas (fried potatoes), and for the slightly more daring, morcilla (blood sausage, just try it!). Ever since they expanded into their extra space for Cata Vino, they've increased their footprint and the complete space is beautiful. Just like any shared meal experience, do yourself a favor and go with some friends, order a bunch of food to share and enjoy the smiles on each other's faces as you eat, drink and tell some stories. It'll be the most affordable and efficient way to experience Spain. Funny story, La Feria still regularly makes Eater, Detroit News, Hour Magazine lists, but its staying power means those chasing the newest restaurants don't blow out their reservations to a two-month wait. And that makes it what it should be: an awesome, unique, accessible neighborhood dining experience. I have past by this several times and was invited to this place without planning it myself and I must say I was very impressed with the quality and flavors of the food. It appears more fancy from outside than what it is inside. So expect it's more casual inside with wood chairs and tables. We sat at the bar which is always nice so you can get recommendations for drinks. My top favorite was the morcilla sausage. I thought about it for days. They definitely give you really small portions for the way it's priced. So don't be surprised how small the order is when you get it, I suggest getting two portions especially if you go with another person. The bartender was amazing. They went and asked about the fryer being separate when cooking the home fries without me asking to ask chef which was really thoughtful. Because they didn't use same fryer I was able to eat the delicious homefries that were guaranteed to be gluten-free. I also ate the squid steak that was delicious. We reserved a table for 4 on an early Saturday evening for a pre-concert meal. Surprisingly, there were plenty of open tables in the two room establishment. We were seated at a lovely table near the bar. The atmosphere was alive enough to feel the energy, but quiet enough for conversations. Our server arrived with a couple menus for sharing and water, and then it was a while before we saw him again. He would appear, and ask if we needed anything to drink or if we had any menu questions, but there was no effort to explain the concept, the food or drink selections. Don't get me wrong. He was pleasant and professional, but he seemed somewhat hurried; not forthcoming with which menu items and chef specials were currently available, and what was not unavailable i.e. the Albariño on the menu and the grilled sardines, for instance. When the charcuterie board arrived, again no effort was made to identify the meats or the cheeses. We ordered our food, and everything was delicious though. The soup-of-the-day was a distinct winner for me: Squash Soup garnished with pumpkin seeds. It was served steamy, thick and full of flavor. Raves from everyone! The stuffed mushroom dish was great too. It was not until we were nearly finished with our meal when a member of our party recognized that the grilled asparagus wasn't coming. Upon trying to get attention, it was only then we noticed the poor guy was serving nearly everyone there: two rooms of guests plus those dining outside! The delayed order appeared to get reordered, and it was excellent as well. We did not try desert options because we were not offered desert. Know that 20% gratuity is automatically added to the bill along with an extra 3% "processing fee". That said, our server received a total of 33% because he was working hard and fast, and i cannot fault him individually for not being trained in food service and table presentation. When we asked about it, server said they likely ran out and would check and then never went to go check, so we just got our check and left. Remember this place being better than this.
