I was so disappointed in this place a few friends had recommended it to us unfortunately the food was not great. It started strong with the chips and salsa. The salsa is nice and has a little bit of spice but Everything else was lacking flavor and salt. The veggie fajitas only came with tortillas, no rice beans salsa, side salad nothing. The torta did not have beans in it. The enchiladas were lacking flavor same as their rice and beans Liz we asked for side sauce and the gave us green tomatillo sauce but again not much flavor. They never came to offer refills on water and even when we asked for it they never brought it. I think that was more of an understaffed place. The ambiance was great it is a lovely well decorated space and their shop next door is great we got some churros that were fresh and warm. I really love La Jalisciense. It's my go to Mexican restaurant in detroit. Service is typically great, salsas are great, and the food is delicious. I came last night and it was really busy. I ordered a carnitas burrito, one of my favorites. The food took over 45 minutes to come after we ordered it. Our table ordered 5 tacos and a burrito.... 45 minutes is outrageous. Once it finally came, my burrito was about half the size of what it typically is (posted a photo of my last burrito from here for reference) Then, they cut the burrito and there were pieces of foil all in the burrito (pictured) really not okay. The worst part, there were three massive bones in my burrito!!!!! When I complained, they said that carnitas has bones in it... I've never had bones in my burrito. They asked if I wanted something else and I said I want the same burrito but without bones and they told me that if I got the same meat it would probably also have bones in it so they didn't remake it for me. If I bit down on it I could've broken my tooth or choked. Really really disappointed with my experience last night. I'll be back because this isn't "normal" for them, but I'm really disappointed. Stopped by La Jalisciense for lunch and really enjoyed it. The sauces they bring out with the chips were one of my favorite parts because they all had different flavors and were really good. The food was delicious, the portions were generous, and everything tasted fresh. La Jalisciense has been on my "want to go" list for so long because it's probably the pinnacle of Mexicantown food and it was totally worth it! I ordered a ton more off of their menu given that everything sounded so delicious! I got the gordita (yum!), beef tripe tacos (literally so delicious and perfectly fried, probably my favorite item I got), the fried pork greaves to start, horchata to drink (a little watered down), and some churros to end it. Everything was incredibly delicious and so flavorful! This spot is so authentic and lively and shares the same building with their supermarket too, which sells so many Hispanic essentials, I definitely stocked up! So we have tried the Taylor location and it was really good so we decided to come to this location and try this. I have to say that the food doesn't taste any different and the menu isn't any bigger or smaller. Now with that being said don't think I'm knocking this place cause I'm not. It is THE BEST Mexican food in the state of Michigan. All I'm saying is if you are in Taylor this location is just as good and you don't have to waste the gas to come all the way out here but if you are closer to this location go check them out. The food is PHENOMENAL, the staff is AMAZING and the building is quite a bit bigger. You can never go wrong with ANYTHING on the menu, The market was definitely different, they don't have that at the Taylor location and their selection of candy, chips, pop is like none other, it was cool to see all the snacks I used to have in my house when I lived in San Diego. I've been coming here for years, and I've never left this disappointed. A simple mistake, a completely wrong Paloma made by someone who clearly wasn't trained behind the bar should have been easy to fix. Instead, I was met with eye rolls, muttering, and then ignored until my entrée arrived. Mistakes happen. Bad service is a choice. I work in hospitality, so I know the difference between an honest error and a complete lack of professionalism. I've recommended this restaurant for years to guests and friends because I believed in it. After today, I won't be recommending it to anyone. If this is how loyal customers are treated, the standards have clearly fallen. The environment depends on the mood of the employees sadly. read more

I have been to this place three times and unfortunately each time it is mid for me. The good: I came for a yelp event and while I enjoyed the event menu, other things I did not. The Gordita was very good. I liked how they were able to make it red, but it didn't taste artificial. I would come just to order the normal one again. Their horchata is very good too. A little more sweet than I like, but once my ice melts a little I enjoy it. Their carnitas are the best I have had from a restaurant to be very honest. The meat is so tender and flavored well. I come back for this meat itself. I have had their shrimp and I did enjoy that taco too. My disliking: I do not like their other meats. The pollo seems too dry and the flavor isn't there for me. The asada has a great flavor and chopped well, but it's just too dry also. Their rice is not my favorite. I always seemed to get rice that is burnt a little each time I've eaten it. I do not like the salsa. It tasted more oniony and wasn't spicy. I probably could have asked for a different salsa so that's not a reflection of the restaurant I will say. Service: their service is hit or miss. Our waitress forgot our drinks for a little for some of the people at our table. One of the staff did not speak enough English which was hard for some at the table who can't not speak/understand Spanish. Fortunately I can, but when I was away there was a serious language barrier. We did have one girl checking on us very often so that was nice. Overall the staff were pretty friendly and helpful. The grocery store is amazing. There are so many things inside there. So many snacks and treats that brings back your childhood. You can also buy ice cream, meats and other goodies. Be warned about the parking. The lot is very small so definitely just venture to the street. Overall just because I wasn't a fan, doesn't mean you wouldn't be. I still say give this place a try and have a big open mind. A nice authentic Mexican dinner on a cold Sunday night. I misinterpreted the stewed goat, being a goat stew - my mistake. It is wonderfully seasoned and tender. 5 stars for service. The lady servers and male bartender did an amazing job of keeping the customers feel welcomed and constantly asking how the food tastes and if something else is needed. I couldn't remember if music was playing but I couldn't hear any conversation from other tables. The dining hall decorated with colorful banderetas, day of the dead inspired paintings and dolls can be seen from the walls. A small bowl of crunchy chips with red tomato and onion salsa was served for free as appetizer. The entrees we ordered were served in a traditional Mexican bowl or plate. Surprisingly ironic that the rice is not proportion to the amount of meat ordered, so we had to order another side of rice, beans and a couple pieces of corn tortillas. 4 stars on the food but the fruit juices was the highlight of our visit. Highly recommend the melon and cucumber juice ... so worth the $5 per medium glass. Felt the sugar rush that I went frequently to the ladies room ‍ Love the crispy pork belly that they call chicharron. It is sold $15.99 per pound at their store but in the dining menu it is priced less than I expected and accompanied with slices of lime. Free limited parking in their front lot. Walked extra careful because the snow is piling us from the ground and at its lowest temperature. This is my 2nd Time to visit La Jalisciense and I couldn't forget how nice the table service is with Veronica and the other ladies. Check out was fast and yes they accept credit cards! Medium sized grocery in the other side of the building. Selling most of the things missed by Spanish speaking guests. There have a deli section, selling household items, spices, drinks and even party favor piñatas. Before leaving the premises, I suggest playing the claw machine for extra fun! read more

I've been to La Jalisciense (I live 5 minutes away), but I had never had their tacos before. Mine was fantastic and that's due to the well marinated Al Pastor in the taco. The Al Pastor was very flavorful; it wasn't just pork with a bit of seasoning. It was juicy and a little sweet and really made the Torta Other than the taco, I got my usual Birria de Chivo, which is, personally, my favorite item they offer. I rarely see this dish at other spots (and when they have it, it's with Lamb and you don't get much meat). It's a Goat Stew that just tastes incredible and refreshes you. While I wasn't using it for its medicinal qualities today, it is an excellent hangover cure, and is one of the most savory, comforting dishes you can eat. I love it. The last thing I love about La Jalisciense is the market that accompanies the restaurant. It is incredibly specialized with Hot Sauces, Meats and Chilies you wouldn't be able to find at many of the larger Grocery Stores in SW Detroit. They have incredibly well marbled Ribeye steaks, every flavor of El Yukatecko hot sauce, every flavor of Knorr Bouillon, and rare food like Pork Confit. It's awesome. Lastly, the interior of the market is incredibly bright and new. This is not a dingy spot at all, and is awesome for dates or to bring friends. First off service was pretty slow. We waited to place our order and about 35 mins for food. I asked to have green sauce instead of red on my eggs. They said no, then charged me $6 for sauce on the side. I orders flour tortillas and they brought corn. When I went to scrape the red sauce off my eggs, there was a hair baked I to the eggs. I could not wait another 35 mins for them to re-make so I asked for a refund. They put it on the bill anyway. Of course I asked them to fix the bill. The margarita was only fair. I just ate at La Jaliscience's food truck, and the food was fantastic! The truck is located on the west side of Randolph street, just north of Cadillac Square, in the parking lot behind 7-11. I ordered three steak tacos with beans and rice. The tacos were in soft corn tortillas, topped with cilantro and onions. They were served with lime slices and a picante sauce. Yum! The rice was flavored with red peppers and the beans were creamy. Service was quick and super friendly. Some of the best asada you can get in the area. Located in a market, La Jaliscience does not mess around. Very friendly staff and the wait time was very reasonable. The tortilla chips and guac were a bit different, but far from inedible. As for the main, I went with 2 steak quesadillas, 1 pastor quesadilla, and 1 cabeza quesadilla. I love cabeza, but this was a bit too strong for me (a good guac would have made this great). The steak and pastor were equal in terms of how good both tasted. Went to Mexicantown for lunch on Sunday following our visit to the Michigan Central station which is just right down the road. So glad we picked this place! They have a decent sized parking lot but we actually parked in the lot for the business next door because it was Sunday and they were closed. It was pretty busy at around 1pm but it was also Father's Day so it was expected! We were seated right away and we knew fairly quickly what we wanted so we ordered quick. Our server was efficient! They brought out free chips and salsa to start. The salsa had a bit of spice but it was so so good. We also all got Mexican cokes and they offered my Dad a free classic margarita for Father's Day! We all tried it and it was probably one of the better margaritas I have had. Very tasty. For my meal I got the taco dinner which comes with 3 tacos + rice and beans. I chose pastor for my protein. My dad got the same thing but with steak. My mom had a shrimp taco and a goat taco. We were all very pleased with our meals! Sooo yummy. There were some inconsistencies i.e. I got limes and my parents didn't or my dad got onions and peppers and I didn't. Not sure if this is based on the type of meat you get but just something I noticed. I did check in on yelp and they had a check in offer of 10% off your bill that I was able to use. La Jalisciense in Mexicantown has the best chicharrón in the metro area. I've been to other Mexican supermarkets and restaurants and it's just not the same. This chicharrón is served hot, crispy, but not super hard or chewy. There is a good amount of both fat and meat. The chicharrón at other places are usually too dry and hard. Besides the supermarket, I tried the restaurant for a Yelp event. I enjoyed the food and the variety of aguas frescas. read more

I think I might have had one issues with the service but that was because the server didn't understand us. She didn't speak good English and we couldn't understand her over her accent. One of my favorite Mexican food spots in Detroit. I love the street tacos and the Botana (Nachos). The service is always fast and friendly and we are usually seated within 5 minutes of arriving. The Decor is also really cute as it has a nice local restaurant feel with the ability to seat large parties. There is also a convenient walk-up ordering area for to-go orders and it is attached to a fun local store. Definitely a must-try. read more

Very interesting place. Having tried some of their food at a Yelp event and loving it. My husband was very excited to stop in for more Sopes. La Jalisciense is a market on one side and Restaurant area on the other. There's even outdoor dining. The shop has pretty much anything you would need. He decided to grab a carry out of Sopes.
