Botana galan
LeChele P.

It was hard to choose which Mexican restaurant to eat at in the "little Mexico" area of Detroit. We picked Los Galanes because of their patio. The patio offered plentiful seating but the chairs were just cheap plastic and not the most comfortable. The service was polite and attentive but slow at times. We did visit during lunch time on a Friday so we expected delays. The foot traffic was pretty consistent and the salsa served at the table was flavorful with the right amount of spice, so we were hopeful that the food would be good as well. We ordered the enchiladas mole and botana. The mole was pretty decent, not too thick and was adequately seasoned but there wasn't nearly enough on the dish. The beans and rice were not to par with the mole, so those were left on the plate. The botana was beautiful but the flavor was lacking. There was no chorizo in the dish as described and there was just no flavor to be found. The dish was fixed by adding sour cream and lots of salsa. I'm not opposed to stopping in the area again but will look for other food options next time.

Cute spot; service was good food was not as good as I had hoped for. There are wayyy more decent spots in southwest Detroit for authentic Mexican food. This place miss the mark. Raised in Southwest Detroit! I will definitely not be back.

It is Cinco de Mayo and we are hammered. We are currently still in the restaurant, and the service has been wonderful. Everyone here is very sweet, but it's very busy so the attentiveness we would get on a normal night is a little bit lower than what we would typically expect. However, they were very quick with seating us, and even offered drinks in the line at the door, which is what an enticed us in the first place to come in. The drinks were Strong (ARE strong) but the food from start to finish has been less than what we were anticipating. to start, we got chips and queso. Of course this came with salsa, that was sweeter rather than spicy. Best part of the evening. The queso, was simply melted cheddar, which was disappointing because it was almost $13. I ordered the chicken flautas - they were good enough to finish, but nothing to brag about back home. The rice was flavorless, but the beans were great! (Its hard to mess up beans). Generally, the ambiance was good! Super quiet in comparison to the other bars popping off. But other than a strong pour, we have no reason to return. xav's Corner: Super drunk off the margs but the steak was mid, and they couldve put more on the 25$ steak ranchero, (was not worth it). The line was short for a reason. The pitcher did its job but tasted just alright.

Steak & Al Pastor tacos

Went here based on reviews, I'd consider this Tex-mex not authentic Mexican. I got the lunch special with two tacos (steak and al pastor), rice and beans. The al pastor taco along with the complimentary chips and salsa were ok. The other food items had no flavor. My friend got caldo de pollo. She said there wasn't much flavor to her food either. Our server was alright, took a while to initially check on us and same when we wanted to get the bill. The style looks like a typical "Mexican restaurant" and wasn't too loud till a table of 12 was seated by us.

Cool, relaxed ambiance and fun decor. Very spacious inside. Lots of seating and the tables are spaced out nicely. I felt like we had a lot of privacy. Clean bathrooms. Excellent service. Brian was very attentive and kind to my table. I enjoyed my cheese enchilada suizas. The green salsa was very good. I also enjoyed the red salsa that came with our homemade tortilla chips. Nice kick and flavor! The panchitos were a great appetizer. The house margarita was done well and I enjoyed my Havana rum drink. They have their own free parking lot, which is a nice perk. Fun place!

This feels so suburban. I wanted Mexican food. My husband got to pick which spot. We've never been here, so despite the lower Yelp ratings, I thought, why not? My parents loved what we brought them. My husband and I thought our picks were tastyish enough. Love from us, though? Eh. It was alright. Not terribly cheap. Gosh, I miss the old days when you got a bargain and much tastier food as a reward for hauling your ass into the city. Not anymore. It wasn't outrageously priced, but it wasn't any cheaper from outlying areas either. The dining experience could have been had in Canton or Northville or anywhere. There was nothing special. Nothing that wowed. No must-have dishes on the menu. It was just your ok run of the mill Mexican joint. Which is fine. Just not in Mexicantown.

We chose this place because I read the good reviews prior. It was fairly empty inside which surprised me for dinner time on a Thursday. Our waitress was kind and we ordered delicious margaritas while we waited for our other friends to show up. Everyone loved their choices. I had the beef chimichanga. It was ok, sort of bland but tolerable. Large portions so we all had boxes to go. I'm glad we tried this place but I'd definitely try somewhere new next time we're in the area.

First off we got right in on a Sunday , stopped in for a quick bite to eat after walking around Mexican Town . Got the small botana for lunch and split with my wife . Was tasty and full , peppers , olives, beans , avocado and onion ....the chips and salsa fresh as can be definitely my favorite place in Mexican Town

The food was so good, the server was friendly, and our food came out quickly. I will definitely be back if I'm ever in the area

Vegetable fajita without much pepper or onion

I wouldn't call this "authentic" Mexican, more like Mexican for a Midwest palette. I ordered a vegetable fajita expecting peppers and onions, and instead got a strange assortment of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cabbage, and the smallest bit of onion and peppers imaginable. I was flabbergasted. The vegetables weren't well seasoned either. I literally couldn't eat it. The service and atmosphere were good enough. I didn't have any issues there.

Stopped in today for some authentic Mexican food and was honestly disappointed. The decor is nice but restaurant smells like rusty pipes. The server was okay seemed alittle annoyed at beginning but lightened up by end. The food lacked flavor. Steak tasted like it was marinated in beer and threw on grill with no seasonings. Only good thing was the refried beans. Unfortunately won't be returning here unless they make some much needed improvements.

Not bad, food was average for that area but their dinner menu was overpriced. Better deals for basically the same food elsewhere.

Lots of tender chunks of flavorful beef swimming in a delicious broth with potato, carrots, onion and some kind of squash. It comes with rice and beans. I sometimes add that to my soup as well. Instead of crackers I use tortilla chips. The chicken soup is equally as good. I don't know why more Mexican restaurants don't offer this option. Mexican soup is much different than gringo soup. I cut everything up into tiny pieces. Mexican soup is entire carrots, a potato cut in half, half an onion. That said it totally works. I highly recommend the soup at Lupita's.

Heads up; it's cash only (atm with $3 fee in the building) and 1 bill per table. I ordered 5 quesadillas to sample the different meats. I'll go from best to worst. The cabeza was rich, but not too overpowering which I've experienced before. No fat either which was great. The asada had a nice flavor and was perfectly tender. The pollo was equally flavorful and tender. All 3 get an A grade. The carnitas was pretty good, but not as tender as the others. Solid B. Finally, the pastor was a bit underwhelming. Simply too saucy to fully enjoy it. A C grade on that. Only negative would be how greasy they were. The tortillas were absolutely drenched in grease which wasn't great. Overall, a solid experience. Wish I would've degreased the tortillas more.

I ordered a carnitas burrito, one of my favorites. The food took over 45 minutes to come after we ordered it. Our table ordered 5 tacos and a burrito.... 45 minutes is outrageous. Once it finally came, my burrito was about half the size of what it typically is (posted a photo of my last burrito from here for reference) Then, they cut the burrito and there were pieces of foil all in the burrito (pictured) really not okay. The worst part, there were three massive bones in my burrito!!!!! When I complained, they said that carnitas has bones in it... I've never had bones in my burrito. They asked if I wanted something else and I said I want the same burrito but without bones and they told me that if I got the same meat it would probably also have bones in it so they didn't remake it for me. If I bit down on it I could've broken my tooth or choked. Really really disappointed with my experience last night. I'll be back because this isn't "normal" for them, but I'm really disappointed. The manager ended up comping my burrito and explained to me that sometimes baby bones get through the meat when they're cooking it... you can see from the picture we're not talking about baby bones- these were three massive quarter size bones

I have been trying Mexican restaurants all over the U.S. and no where compares to vecino and to think I found my favorite in Detroit amazes me. It truly is worth every penny. For what to order: All their appetizers are great. We usually switch it up and are satisfied with each one that we've ordered. The Totopos with salsa are a must and their guac is great as well. For mains- the asada del día is our go to. It is always cooked to perfection and comes with fresh tortillas. And it is hard for me to come by a tortilla in the U.S. that I enjoy. But here, they are excellent. They import their corn from Mexico and you can tell. This is served with bone marrow and some garlic onion spread that goes great on the taco. For dessert- their tres leches is amazing. The coconut cream pairs so well with the cake. I could eat like 10 of them. As if it's not obvious at this point vecino is my favorite restaurant in Detroit and one of my tops in the world. I will not be surprised if they are the first ones in Detroit to secure the Michelin star

I felt a little out of place being here given just how trendy and super party-like atmosphere it all was haha! And in the months since I've come here, it remains a super popular spot to go to if you're looking for that extremely lively atmosphere! None of this takes away from the quality of their delicious food! We had incredible dishes and they clearly take a lot of pride in sourcing intentionally all their ingredients for their food, and the waitstaff did their best to intro us to everything, despite how overstimulatingly loud the environment was, so I only came away from each presentation with about half the information they wanted to convey. But all in all, the food was good across the board, and we tried a ton of different dishes. There weren't any that were overwhelming showstoppers that made me want to come back here again and again to try the rest of the menu though, so I left Vecino knowing that I wasn't going to return anytime soon. It's definitely for a specific mindset and type of celebratory occasion, which is often not the one I'm in when I'm going out to eat with friends.
