Corona day 6!!! My quest continues to support business in my area that are still open and I've never tried. Today's adventure is 44burrito. (Insert dramatic pause and music) I will admit I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to my Mexican food. Living on the west coast and having home made Mexican food made with love from Mexican friends is hard to top. I'll try to temper that for this review. Let's start with the chips and queso.the chips were fresh tasting and crisp. The queso just tasted like canned nacho cheese, nothing special. Bummer. This fried burrito... listen it's huge. I took a picture of it next to a 28 oz blender bottle for effect. Huuuuuuge. I ordered the one with double beef since it came with two meats. The only thing I would have liked to see here is the other ingredients spread throughout the burrito. As you can see from the pic it's about 1/4 to 1/2 gone and you don't see the rice, cheese or sour cream. The beef could use more "taco" seasoning flavor but I won't quibble over that. With all that said this review loses a star from me because of one thing. NO GUACAMOLE!!! Whaaaaaaaat???? I ordered on door dash and that is not shown on the menu at all. My feelings were soo hurt. That's the best part of Mexican to me, great homemade guac!! They will surely see me again.

    Steak Barria tacos with rice

I was really hungry excited when i saw this place pop up on google as being nearby. Food was hot and fresh but had no flavor/ customer service was good as well. Ordered the steak barria tacos. They are not steak btw...jus the standard beef used in barria tacos so that was misleading. Meal was $18 . I ate a taco and a couple spoons of rice to rid my hunger pains then tossed in the trash. Dipping stew on the side for the tacos taste like cinnamon water.

This review is for the food truck...stopped at the downtown truck in Detroit for lunch. There was a long line, which is a good sign. Once I ordered, the food came out fairly fast. I got the chicken nachos and a side of guacamole. The nachos were good, nice toppings and flavorful chicken. They could have used more cheese though. The guacamole had a nice little kick to it. My coworker got nachos as well. We ate at an outdoor table and at least five people asked what we had and if it was as good as it looked. We assured them it was worth the wait in line!

I don't know what this is supposed to be....

Ugh ... over $16 for a burrito bowl that I was told was the same as a nacho bowl ... but not in a nacho bowl. I would've had to buy chips to actually have a nacho bowl that's not really a nacho bowl. 2 oz of salsa was given and when I asked for extra I was told it was JUST $.50 which was unacceptable after paying over $16 for a nacho bowl that's not really a nacho bowl. I asked for guacamole...they didn't have any. I asked for a lime. I paid $.75 for a piece of a lime cut up. I was very excited to see nothing but Black women in this establishment and to learn it was Black owned. However................please....do better. Ps. This is NOT a nacho bowl!!!!!!! In response to the Tasha, the "manager".... First you are incorrect ... I didn't "design" my bowl the way you stated. I simply asked for no beans. That's it...that's all. So for no beans and a side of sour cream, jalapeños and a lime I paid an extra $3?! Your staff asked if I wanted sour cream and jalapeños on the side or on top so are you saying I was charged extra because it was on the side?! Absolutely ridiculous! Also let me advise you that your assumption of my entrepreneurial knowledge is incorrect as I owned a green smoothie business for years before choosing to go back to cooperate america so "ma'am" I do understand small business. In addition.... I was told by your staff this was worthless bowl of food was the same thing as a nacho bowl.... however we both know it is not! ANNNNND I didn't say "Black women ...do better." I said for this business to do better! Miss me with your response to these reviews....take the criticism and do fucking better! Cause if I had read your reviews BEFORE I donated money to you cause I didn't eat your worthless food... I would have kept driving down 8 mile. Best of luck to you...........you'll need it Response #2...... Tasha, I edited typos in my review ...not my review ..... please go manage your business because your business with me is done. Response #3 ... Jesus chile lissen... I asked about the prices. I asked about the nacho bowl. Your staff didn't say anything about an extra charge for putting items that come on the damn bowl on the side ...I have never in my life heard of that. I know the costs of small business however.... charging to put something that you would have put in the dish on the side is ridiculous and that's my opinion and you going back and forth with me won't change that. You're incorrect on most of what you say but you don't correct yourself nor apologize for yourself errors. You make a lot of assumptions in your feelings ...I get it tho this is your business your baby....BUT....going back and forth with your customers about THEIR experience with you doesn't serve you best. Everyone won't be happy and no ..... I didn't taste it first. My review was on the prices and the experience not the food. Nothing crazy about my statement.... however the constant back and forth you do... isn't a good look for you at all. And honestly because your business means more to you than this review means me... I had thought about removing my review but you wouldn't stop talking to me and the way you come at your customers with negative reviews is ridiculous. So again..... after all your constant responses to what I experienced with your business. My review still stands. Keep your blessings for yourself and your business. Have a good and productive day! My vibe is AMAZING!

10" Turkey burrito 2 soft tacos lunch meal $10.50

Ok for my second time going to 44-Burrito, again I wasn't that impressed. Let's start with the ordering experience at the counter. Now I get it the cashier was new and really looked out of her element but give me a break, she needed somebody else over her shoulder helping her out. I told her & pointed to the 4'x10' menu board on the wall and she still got the order wrong. I'm not sure how the new white tablet touch screen registers look from her view but I would think the menu should be on there plain as day, and she over charged me. Now for my meal experience. I ordered the 10" Turkey burrito lunch meal. I would have to say the burrito and the tacos were a total wash(bland) when it comes to flavor. For a Authentic Mexican cuisine restaurant in an predominantly urban neighborhood I would think the seasoning to the meat would have a burst of flavor...not! I'm a spicy food junky so you know when I was asked which only (2) salsas I wanted between mild and hot I chose hot. The hot salsa taste like extra-extra mild with a shot of water...the worst ever. I can honestly say after two visits I have definitely learned from my mistakes because I won't be returning.

Terrible dry lukewarm barely filled taco
    Chris L.

Wow holy crap that was terrible! It took 25 minutes for a small order to be ready despite only two people ahead of me that already ordered. My "authentic" Mexican tacos were filled with not even a teaspoon of dry rubbery lukewarm filling. They were a total joke. My burrito was better but nothing to write home about. The corn chips were massively stale. One was so bad it didn't even break when bit into I had to tear off a piece like corn flavored fruit roll up. Why can't we get decent Mexican outside of SW Detroit? *update* 44B you can not address negative reviews by posting a 5 star review of your own business. The fact that you tried that and went after another reviewer pretty much seals the deal that I want no further interaction with you or your business. Basic common sense applied here would have saved you from generating even more negative attention towards your business.

    Lynell L.

I like the food here the cashier was friendly the place was clean the price was right this was my second visit so it wasn't a fluke so I can see myself revisiting plus taco Tuesday $1.50 yeah !!!!!

Lots of tender chunks of flavorful beef swimming in a delicious broth with potato, carrots, onion and some kind of squash. It comes with rice and beans. I sometimes add that to my soup as well. Instead of crackers I use tortilla chips. The chicken soup is equally as good. I don't know why more Mexican restaurants don't offer this option. Mexican soup is much different than gringo soup. I cut everything up into tiny pieces. Mexican soup is entire carrots, a potato cut in half, half an onion. That said it totally works. I highly recommend the soup at Lupita's.

Heads up; it's cash only (atm with $3 fee in the building) and 1 bill per table. I ordered 5 quesadillas to sample the different meats. I'll go from best to worst. The cabeza was rich, but not too overpowering which I've experienced before. No fat either which was great. The asada had a nice flavor and was perfectly tender. The pollo was equally flavorful and tender. All 3 get an A grade. The carnitas was pretty good, but not as tender as the others. Solid B. Finally, the pastor was a bit underwhelming. Simply too saucy to fully enjoy it. A C grade on that. Only negative would be how greasy they were. The tortillas were absolutely drenched in grease which wasn't great. Overall, a solid experience. Wish I would've degreased the tortillas more.

I don't usually get alcoholic beverages, but I felt like one that night. I got a small Sangria. It was good, but I really wish it had been colder. For dinner, I got the #2 combination. (I always like combinations because I can never decide what to get.) It was HUGE! A nice, crispy chicken taco that was so full of stuff that I had to use a fork and knife (gasp! :o ), a beef chimichanga which I took home, beans and rice. And, it came with sour cream and guacamole hidden underneath. (I didn't actually see the guac until I was reheating the leftovers.) Everything tasted good, and it reheated nicely as well. The only thing that was a little off was that the server was very obviously unhappy that we all wanted separate checks.

I came last night and it was really busy. I ordered a carnitas burrito, one of my favorites. The food took over 45 minutes to come after we ordered it. Our table ordered 5 tacos and a burrito.... 45 minutes is outrageous. Once it finally came, my burrito was about half the size of what it typically is (posted a photo of my last burrito from here for reference) Then, they cut the burrito and there were pieces of foil all in the burrito (pictured) really not okay. The worst part, there were three massive bones in my burrito!!!!! When I complained, they said that carnitas has bones in it... I've never had bones in my burrito. They asked if I wanted something else and I said I want the same burrito but without bones and they told me that if I got the same meat it would probably also have bones in it so they didn't remake it for me. If I bit down on it I could've broken my tooth or choked. Really really disappointed with my experience last night. I'll be back because this isn't "normal" for them, but I'm really disappointed. The manager ended up comping my burrito and explained to me that sometimes baby bones get through the meat when they're cooking it... you can see from the picture we're not talking about baby bones- these were three massive quarter size bones

I have been trying Mexican restaurants all over the U.S. and no where compares to vecino and to think I found my favorite in Detroit amazes me. It truly is worth every penny. For what to order: All their appetizers are great. We usually switch it up and are satisfied with each one that we've ordered. The Totopos with salsa are a must and their guac is great as well. For mains- the asada del día is our go to. It is always cooked to perfection and comes with fresh tortillas. And it is hard for me to come by a tortilla in the U.S. that I enjoy. But here, they are excellent. They import their corn from Mexico and you can tell. This is served with bone marrow and some garlic onion spread that goes great on the taco. For dessert- their tres leches is amazing. The coconut cream pairs so well with the cake. I could eat like 10 of them. As if it's not obvious at this point vecino is my favorite restaurant in Detroit and one of my tops in the world. I will not be surprised if they are the first ones in Detroit to secure the Michelin star

And in the months since I've come here, it remains a super popular spot to go to if you're looking for that extremely lively atmosphere! None of this takes away from the quality of their delicious food! We had incredible dishes and they clearly take a lot of pride in sourcing intentionally all their ingredients for their food, and the waitstaff did their best to intro us to everything, despite how overstimulatingly loud the environment was, so I only came away from each presentation with about half the information they wanted to convey. But all in all, the food was good across the board, and we tried a ton of different dishes. There weren't any that were overwhelming showstoppers that made me want to come back here again and again to try the rest of the menu though, so I left Vecino knowing that I wasn't going to return anytime soon. It's definitely for a specific mindset and type of celebratory occasion, which is often not the one I'm in when I'm going out to eat with friends.

You order at the food truck, and they have an indoor seating area with tables if you want to eat on-site. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. The food here is amazing. The birria tacos were packed with flavor, and at $2.50 each, they're an unbeatable deal. But the real star for me was the burrito--this thing had to weigh at least a pound! The salsas are also delicious which is always a plus. I hope more people discover this gem because the food truly speaks for itself.
