One of our favorite quick serve sit down restaurants in the area! While it's not fancy by any means, el patio serves delicious food and drinks at an affordable price. The Berkley location is very well decorated with high ceilings, booths, tables and bar seating. I love the barrel chairs at the tables. The complimentary (and usually hot/freshly made) chips and salsa make it to the table before we even sit down! Drinks are filled as soon as it's needed, and food comes out promptly. The combo meals are a great choice when you can't decide what to get. But personally I love the enchiladas supremas because it includes 4 enchiladas - 1 beef, 1 chicken, 1 cheese, and 1 bean. So good! I've also enjoyed taquitos, quesadillas, chicken soup, burritos and just about everything. I've never met an el patio meal I didn't enjoy. The servers are all kind and attentive. There's always someone there when you need something. ETA: tons of reviews say the food is poor quality. While it's not fancy... it's definitely still good. AND you get what you pay for... what fancy high end Mexican restaurant do you go to that has a full dinner for $8-12 plus free chips and salsa???

Burrito California (Chicken or Steak)

Yummy! Great wait time, kind servers, and big ass burrito. Do not underestimate the burrito california. Thing is the size of its namesake and is always fantastic. Love coming here with my family, have been many times. :)

Dined in on a Tuesday night after 530. Had my dinner & dessert done by 6p. I didn't even get to touch my book. I felt rushed but im sure that wasn't the intention. My food arrived in less time than it took me to look at the entire menu & decide. The menu has a lot. Tacos weren't piping hot, but just a little warmer than room temp. I ate 2/4 tacos & had 1 bite of the 3rd taco. They were good. The waiter was going to take my plate with my remaining tacos while I was drinking my water! I had to wave my hand (drinking water remember), & then he asked if i wanted a box. I replied yes, & ordered a sopapilla. Sopapilla came topped with whipped cream & a marachino cherry. (I don't like either.) So i just scooped them off with my knife. It was tasty. Once I completely ate the sopapilla, the bill was placed on my table & I was instructed to pay at the podium. I opened yelp & got as far as the previous paragraph when a bag was brought & kindly opened for me to place my box & salsa. I just felt like i needed to leave & get out of their way. NOTHING was in a rude manner! I want to make that clear. I'm not angry with my waiter or the restaurant. I'm just recounting my experience.

Always a great experience!! I'm ashamed that I'm just writing a review. Let's start with the amazing salsa and chips that get set on your table the moment you sit down and get refilled the whole meal. Lunch specials are amazing but the menu is one of the most reasonable of any restaurant even for dinner. The Texas margaritas are delicious -- my favorite is the mango! And the service is wonderful. So friendly and welcoming!!

Are you looking for authentic Mexican? Do you want something with high quality ingredients? Would you like new and exciting meals prepared by the chef? Well this is not the place for you. El Patio hits the mark with classic, non-offensive, and well-priced Mexican meals you would expect at On the Border or another run-of-the-mill chain.

While looking for some Mexican food nearby I came across this restaurant and decided to give it a try. Upon entering the restaurant, there was a lot of Mexican decor and music playing. The bar area was huge with TVs displayed. I decided to sit at the bar and I was promptly greeted by the bartender who took my food and drink order. Someone came by and dropped off chips and salsa while I waited for my food. I ordered a mango margarita, but the bartender got my order wrong and gave me a strawberry. The strawberry one was good and huge for a size medium. I ordered the chicken enchiladas which came with rice, guacamole, and tomatoes. I wasn't expecting the sauce on top of the enchiladas, but it was good a little salty for my taste. But no complaints on food wise. All the staff at the restaurant seemed very nice and the food came out quickly.

It was my first time visiting El Patio. First impression was not good. The Host/Bartender was extremely rude. We were meeting family and made a reservation however we didn't know the exact number of people in the party. I offered to call my boyfriend's mom to ask, but the host responded with a snippy answer of having a lot of parties and was not helpful. We eventually looked around and found our people. I was very put off by this interaction and don't think I'll be back based just on his attitude. Once seated we got chips and dip quickly. We ordered drink and they came super fast! Can't complain the frozen margarita was delicious. I was getting distracted by the servers fully sprinting around the restaurant. Not sure if there were some emergencies or what was going on. Our server however was great. For how big our group was he took all our orders and kept the drinks coming. The food was unfortunately underwhelming. We had chipped plates, toothpicks cooked in the enchiladas and very plain tasting food. At first we thought that everyone got toothpicks to hold the food together, but it was just my boyfriend... I had the most underwhelming guacamole and couldn't finish the cold quesadillas. Overall I do not believe I will be back to El Patio. I believe that with a new host and some more attention to detail in the kitchen this place could truly shine. Cheers to the servers, but I think I will choose elsewhere when looking for Mexican food.

They said this was "Nachos"

RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL, LOW QUALITY FOOD. I arrived at El Patio Mexican Restaurant in Berkley, MI (3/17/2025). It was not crowded at all. I approached the older man behind the counter and asked to place a carry out order. He replied "what do you want to order?" I ordered Nachos. I asked if I could order a side of avocado. He answered in a sarcastic tone, "what do you want? You either order it or you don't. Then he said, "I don't have avocado, I have guacamole". I said ok. I was asked "chicken, steak, or beef?" I chose "beef". I paid for my order & waited10 minutes. He brought my order to me. I looked in the bag to check my order expecting to see "Nachos" but there was only tortilla chips topped with old greasy beef. I did not see any cheese. I asked about cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, salsa, jalapeños. I was told, "you only ordered beef nachos. The cheese is on there". I asked if I could get a side of lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeños, cheese and sour cream? He replied, "you only ordered beef nachos". I asked for my money back and was told "no, I'm not going to give you money and waste the food". I asked for the toppings for the nachos in lieu of a refund. He replied, that will cost extra. I agreed to the cost. He took the bag to the kitchen. When he returned with my order, this (enclosed photo #1) is what I was presented with. He added green peppers and onions (most likely cut for fajitas). I asked about the other items mentioned above and he said, "it was extra". The same "extra" I agreed to previously. The beef smelled weird. The tortillas were oily, and there was oil pooled at the bottom of the container. I did get guacamole that I paid extra for. I left the restaurant and vowed to never return. Fortunately, I decided on another restaurant and ordered "NACHOS". I am so grateful for competent and caring restaurant owners who care about providing great service and quality foods. Nachos are not that difficult to make. El Patio Mexican Restaurant, DO BETTER! Never again.

Contrary to the name El Patio does not have a patio. However, the inside is very spacious and the service is great. As we were sitting down water, chips & salsa were placed in front of us. The chips were warm and crisp. The salsa was flavorful but it is not spicy at all. They offer regular margarita and Texas margaritas. Our server explained the TX margarita is top shelf tequila. I ordered a regular peach margarita and my cousin had a lime/mango margarita. Both came out fast and are strong. The only downside is the dinner combos can only be made with ground beef or shredded chicken. I really wanted a steak option but I went along with it. My meal had 1 taco, 1 burrito and 1 chalupa. I wasn't a fan of the shreddd chicken but the serving sizes are huge, the toppings are fresh and the prices are great. I will definitely be back.

It was good. Decent to good American/Mexican food for a decent value. Limited street parking, nearby easier street parking and a large shared lot behind. This is a former Irish bar that they cleverly converted to Mexican. Large menu. Okay staff. Not very quick. It is loud inside. If you want a lot of time to chat, and can deal with the noise, a good place.

The food was delicious and the service was very fast and the ambiance was nice and pleasant

Hot salsa to go. 16oz. It was full when I bought it, of course.

Very nice addition to Berkeley. Well run. Nice decor. Steak tacos al carbon are amazing. Love their hot salsa (arbol fire roasted base). This has some serious heat. Lightweights stay away. Margaritas are good. I favor the strawberry one on the rocks . Really nice to go version.

Muy Fantastica! They have only been open 6 weeks but I think they are doing a bang up job. All the people, from the hostess to the server were very pleasant and knowledgeable. I had burrito and taco's along with a small lime margarita. Everything was tasty and very fresh. My mom and brother loved their meals as well. The part I really enjoyed was they fun interior. It was so bright and festive it was difficult to leave with a bad mood ( I came in with one as I had a hard day). There were plenty of tables and booth that provided for comfortable seating. I liked the life-sized carvings where you could stand next to them and take cute photo's. Parking: Watch out when you park out front on 12 mile as you need to pay attention to the parking sign, better yet, just go around to the back where there is plenty of parking. We shall return.

There's a doorbell that goes off constantly, which could be a little much -- but it's part of the quirkiness here. Inside is bright, colorful, and very fun, though it can get a bit loud as tables fill up. I ordered the Chiles Rellenos Queso with a Classic Michelada, and my husband had the Tortas Ahogadas with a Paloma. Everything was delicious, the cheesy filled pepper was squeaky and came with tortillas to fill with rice and beans. It was satisfying and not overly filling, our table was clear of takeout boxes, but in saying that, we didn't have room for dessert. Service was friendly -- maybe not the quickest -- but I appreciated not feeling rushed or like they were trying to flip tables. It actually got busier the longer we stayed, even on a Wednesday night.

The people working here were so friendly and personable with literally everyone that walked in the door. The service was top notch. It is also the most adorable place giving vibes of Lamy's food counter at Henry Ford Museum. I loved all of the options on the menu and it was so hard just picking a couple items to try. We had chicken tacos. They were so good and so fresh, I loved the sauce on top. Honestly, I am not sure if it was cheese or a sour cream type mixture, but it was creamy and flavorful. I also had the torta which was absolutely incredible. It had the same chicken as the taco. The chicken was slow cooked or stewed and shredded and was so flavorful, like a homecooked chef's kiss. The bread was fresh. I loved the sauce poured over it, making it a dipped and soaked sandwich. The carrots and cilantro, sliced radishes and sliced fresh jalapenos added a level of crunch, freshness and deeper flavor profile. I would want to get this every time. We also tried their delicious "curly" fries, which were like julienned shoestring fries fired fresh. It seemed like every dish was made fresh and right in front of you. So worth it, plus the prices are great. I would love to try their fried chicken plate, their breakfast sandwiches, and their other desserts. We talked to the man behind the counter who seemed like maybe a manager. He gave us their famous chocolate chip cookie to try. It was fresh baked and delicious. I would love to take home more of those. It looked so simple but was better than many bakeries specializing in cookies alone. He also gave us an second order of fries to take home with my leftovers, just top notch kindness and service. This man told us that OWL owns other restaurants and we would probably like them. I am open to trying more of their group but I do want to return here. This is one of those diners you would find being profiled for best kept secret or gourmet home cooked foods under the guise of fast food.

I've had the torta, birria street tacos, and breakfast sandwiches, and I must say that all are SO yummy. While the street tacos are a bit small, they're still a great option for a quick pick-me-up! Service is a bit hands-off due to the space, but workers are attentive and welcoming.

Let's just say they definitely improved ! We got an order of chips and their seasonal salsa, which was roasted red pepper, and it was very flavorful and delicious. I got a hot honey burrito with beans and rice and my gf got birria tacos. Also not pictured is a marg. Hot honey burrito was a lot of food! The rice is okay, a little bland and clumps together, unlike traditional Mexican fluffy rice. Refried beans are fine. Burrito is very filled and was super sweet from the hot honey which made it a bit hard to finish, but definitely enough food, and I probably could have eaten half. Birria tacos were delish and the consumé was super rich. Margs come in different flavors but they all kinda taste the same to me so far, and they're strong. Maybe a bit too strong? Depends what your goal is with them. Service was good, a little slow for us being at the bar, but nothing to be concerned about. I had the birria tacos and I thought they were really good! The meat was super tender and the consommé was really flavorful and well seasoned, I've had some other places that were pretty watery. I think it is nice to dine in since they give you complimentary chips & salsa and huge bottles of salsa to put on your tacos. The waiters also kept checking on us which was nice. However, the place is not that big or fancy, so I understand why people might prefer taking out. My only complaint is that the waitress who took our order gave us bottled water when we asked to start with water while we were deciding what to order, and she charged us for the bottled waters later. I feel like it's common sense to give free tap water when a customer asks to start with water without specifically asking for bottled water. Despite that, I would still return. I might just skip the water or specify that I want tap water.
