In my top 3 finds this year! We had a spectacular experience from start to finish. The Inside is full of life- colorful, bright, and cheery. The service was attentive, friendly, and generous. The waitress offered us samples of the Agua Fresca flavors so we could make our decision, which was so sweet! We ended up going with tamarind and pineapple. The food was outstanding: fresh, flavorful, crisp where it was supposed to be and soft where it was supposed to be. The Birria meat melted in your mouth! Everything was fun and flavorful without being over the top. The potato taco was really different- a bit like a spiced potato pancake inside a taco. All the tables were clean, as was the restroom. The other big thing is that it truly felt family owned- there was a sense of love and coziness in the air. This is the perfect oasis after a stop at the eastern market, or as a destination pick! The restaurant is a little small and unfortunately there's not a lot of seating during lunch but if you come when they open or after lunch, it's great. I love the outdoor seating. I was so excited to hear that Jose's Taco's opened a second location at Eastern Market, because their my favorite local Mexican food spot. I discovered their downtown location off Grand River by accident many years ago and have been a fan ever since. I was able to have breakfast here on Saturday morning after a day of shopping at the Market for flowers and such. They have a great menu, and it's really hard to go wrong with what they serve. I went with the Huervos Rancheros for breakfast and it was delicious. I was tempted to get their tacos but wanted to try something different on their menu. I was not disappointed! Prices here are fair and there's plenty of seating within. While it's not a fancy place, the foods good and that's what matters. Make sure to pay cash to save the extra fees on cards that I think they *might* charge if used. Also, their closed on Sunday's, so go sooner than later! read more

Family owned businesses are sometimes the worse. I just called because my husband's food was incorrect. He stated that she constantly corrected him when he placed his order, attempting to have him order something he did not. I was happy to see dining inside was allowed (during Covid), because it is a small establishment. In the small time we were there smashing our amazing lunch I noticed they ran through a lot of carry out orders. It was very organized, with two lines: one for order and one for pick up. It was a Tuesday lunch rush. The food was very good! I took advantage of the fresh squeezed watermelon juice, which was fantastic! I haven't had it since I stayed in San Francisco back in the 90's. Super refreshing! The street tacos were tender and tasty, the meat was cubed, and they were served on 6" tortillas, so they're a little larger than the usual street taco. The rice and beans were really good! The tacos were also served with a pile of sweet caramelized onions, which was a tasty surprise! This time I had the Wet burrito,shredded chicken,beans, melted cheese and ranchero sauce. This was incredible the flavors are taste bud knock out. The chicken was moist and tender. The ranchero was flavorful not spicy there as grilled onion on top to bring it home. I also had my favorite menu item grilled chicken taco with white onion and cilantro doesn't sound like much but the flavor combinations are incredible. Started with chips and salsa which are very good, the chips are not greasy at all the salsa mild. Tried the Hibiscus water that was very tasty not overly sweet. I'm so happy that Jose's Tacos has moved into the Eastern Market neighborhood. This area was starting to get a bit homogeneous. Jose's is a fantastic place for Mexican cuisine. My first visit was for a traditional pancake breakfast. It was just what I wanted. Next time, I stopped by for lunch break after market shopping. It was another perfect hit. A chance visit for dinner after work, the restaurant was open and as usual the food and service hit all the right spots. The menu has all the favorites, plus some - the sampler plates are my latest faves. If you're into pop Mexican music, dine in and enjoy the ambiance. During the nice weather, there are tables outdoors. So if you can't get over to Southwest Detroit but can make it to the market district, go ahead and hit up Jose's. read more
