This place is a classic. My family has been coming here for decades. The decor is colorful, the staff is attentive, and the food is very good. We always have a great time here. Large free parking lot outside. I love the hot homemade tortilla chips, right out the oven. The flaming cheese is delicious. We love this for an appetizer. Meat, cheese and a special sauce, what's not to love. My mom loves the quesadillas. I really enjoyed my carne asada and it came with fresh guacamole, salad, and warm tortillas. I really like their refried beans too. Very creamy. The rice is okay. They have a full bar and yummy margaritas. Excellent service. Fun ambiance. It gets very busy on weekend evenings. Sometimes you have to wait a while. My mom and I came here around 4:00pm on Friday and we beat the rush. It was lovely.

I've been coming to Xochimilco's since childhood and not much has changed which is a good thing. The food, service, and ambience has remained untouched since the 1980s. From those first bites of the crispy light chips to their delicious homemade salsa it's always worth a trip to Southwest Detroit's Mexicantown. This last trip was on Tigers Opening Day. Luckily our group got there just before the crowds showed up after the game. Promptly seated we had a basket of those delicious chips in front of us quickly and a margarita followed. After careful deliberation we settled with combo plates. I chose combo #1 which came with 2 crispy beef tacos, cheese enchilada, 1 flauta, and a bean and cheese tostada. Of course I opted for cheese on top of everything ($1 extra but definitely worth it). Portions are huge and you'll probably have enough to take home for another meal. While the prices have gone up it is still very reasonable for all the food you get. I'm glad Xochimilco is just as I remember from childhood. I'm already looking forward to a return visit when the Mexican food cravings hit!

This is a classic staple in Detroit. If you're looking for some great burritos, enchiladas, nachos, etc, this is your place! The deep fried flour chicken tacos and cheese enchiladas were awesome. The tacos carbon were way too pricey for the amount of meat you get. Overall the visit was good. I could come here just for the chips and salsa honestly, they are really good! The service was great and the ambience is a vibe.

Stopped by Xochimilco in Detroit and was not disappointed. I got the frijoles y queso burritos and a cold Sol beer--simple, but so good. The burritos were loaded with creamy beans and melted cheese, wrapped up in a soft tortilla that hit the spot. Nothing fancy, just comforting, flavorful, and filling. The Sol was the perfect pairing--light, crisp, and refreshing enough to cut through the richness of the burritos. The vibe inside is classic and cozy, with that old-school charm that makes you feel right at home. Service was fast and friendly, and everything came out hot and fresh. Definitely coming back--next time I might branch out, but honestly, the burritos were too good not to get again. This is hands-down my favorite spot to get authentic Mexican food in Detroit.

The food here is excellent -- my mother has been coming here on and off for 50 years! And they didn't given me any issues with my Service Dog which I greatly appreciated. It was kind of a noisy place, so if you have guests with hearing issues this may not be the best option. It is very dim with pretty twinkle lighting. Food -- my husband ordered Combination #1 and absolutely loved it. I ordered the chicken burritos and the beans were smokey and the burritos weren't packed with unnecessary ingredients. My sister ordered the chicken chimichangas and they were so crunchy, but thin and the fried bits aren't overpowering. My mother ordered the cheese enchiladas and they came out screaming hot! Absolutely zero complaints or critiques on the food. Service -- our server brought our food to us, but seemed like he had somewhere else better to be and didn't seem to know the menu very well, particularly when I went to order dessert (sopaipilla) Bathrooms -- they were handicap accessible, however the toilet in the ladies' room was clogged and looked as if it had been that way for several people -- I alerted staff and they did close the bathroom promptly.

Have not been here in many years and was a bit disappointed with my dinner based on my high expectations. Chips and salsa were as good as ever and are some of the best I have had in the area buy my "go to" Botana seemed a bit pedestrian to me and did not meet my high expectations based on many previous visits in the past. Maybe an off nite for the cooks or maybe my tastes have changed over the years but seemed very average to me.

One of the best Mexican places I have ever tried in America! So authentic, warming and delicious! Came here for my first time in Michigan and it's absolutely amazing. Recommendations: try the chicken fajitas or the combinated one! And off course modelo beer! Cheers the entree they give at the beginning it's awesome! Love the sauces so organic and fresh everything

I haven't been to Xochimilco in years, mostly because of the time I went and ordered tacos and they told me they didn't have onion and cilantro and instead the tacos were basically just Taco Bell tacos-- and mediocre ones at that. But this review is being posted because they keep ignoring our requests to stop parking their giant luxury truck on the sidewalk. There is some tremendous entitlement in thinking you can just block an extra foot of the sidewalk with your $80,000 car and not suffer any consequences because why would we ever write tickets here. If you love Roma, Texas so much, why don't you move there instead of blocking our sidewalks here in Detroit?

No cheese enchilada (following a, "yes it comes with cheese" conversation. Smh!
    Kimberly W.

Cheese!? If cheese is extra say that when asked. I have came to this restaurant for decades and I never paid for cheese on an enchilada; but understanding the current times I know prices have gone up and I'm 100 percent okay with paying for the price of what I order when going out to a restaurant. I politely asked the hostess is cheese included with an enchilada ( as it has been in the past) the hostess tells me that the cheese is included. I get to my destination and cheese was not included (see picture) it is sad. I am pleased to pay for my order, tip the hostess and or waitress. Update: I call and give my complaint. The first party I spoke to made light of my concern then simply transferred me to another party that had NO idea what was the nature of my call. I explain my concern to the party that stated their name was Emilio; they stated that "some" people don't want cheese on an enchilada. I advised him that I had a cheese conversation about the cheese on my enchilada and it was NEVER requested to be no cheese. This party didn't apologize or show any issue with the incorrect order. He did say I could bring the food back and he would have it remade properly as ordered or "work something out". No concern for my travel time, my time, or gas. But...nproblem bringing the order back but is the order being reused or simply thrown away once viewed? I can't see what is being done in the back. My concern is to bring it back are you sending out food to different patrons that return the food due to incorrect orders. No thanks or the remake I will politely request a refund. I'm returning the food two days later and we shall she how it goes. Keeping all posted as this issue is developing.

Lots of tender chunks of flavorful beef swimming in a delicious broth with potato, carrots, onion and some kind of squash. It comes with rice and beans. I sometimes add that to my soup as well. Instead of crackers I use tortilla chips. The chicken soup is equally as good. I don't know why more Mexican restaurants don't offer this option. Mexican soup is much different than gringo soup. I cut everything up into tiny pieces. Mexican soup is entire carrots, a potato cut in half, half an onion. That said it totally works. I highly recommend the soup at Lupita's.

Heads up; it's cash only (atm with $3 fee in the building) and 1 bill per table. I ordered 5 quesadillas to sample the different meats. I'll go from best to worst. The cabeza was rich, but not too overpowering which I've experienced before. No fat either which was great. The asada had a nice flavor and was perfectly tender. The pollo was equally flavorful and tender. All 3 get an A grade. The carnitas was pretty good, but not as tender as the others. Solid B. Finally, the pastor was a bit underwhelming. Simply too saucy to fully enjoy it. A C grade on that. Only negative would be how greasy they were. The tortillas were absolutely drenched in grease which wasn't great. Overall, a solid experience. Wish I would've degreased the tortillas more.

I came last night and it was really busy. I ordered a carnitas burrito, one of my favorites. The food took over 45 minutes to come after we ordered it. Our table ordered 5 tacos and a burrito.... 45 minutes is outrageous. Once it finally came, my burrito was about half the size of what it typically is (posted a photo of my last burrito from here for reference) Then, they cut the burrito and there were pieces of foil all in the burrito (pictured) really not okay. The worst part, there were three massive bones in my burrito!!!!! When I complained, they said that carnitas has bones in it... I've never had bones in my burrito. They asked if I wanted something else and I said I want the same burrito but without bones and they told me that if I got the same meat it would probably also have bones in it so they didn't remake it for me. If I bit down on it I could've broken my tooth or choked. Really really disappointed with my experience last night. I'll be back because this isn't "normal" for them, but I'm really disappointed. The manager ended up comping my burrito and explained to me that sometimes baby bones get through the meat when they're cooking it... you can see from the picture we're not talking about baby bones- these were three massive quarter size bones

I have been trying Mexican restaurants all over the U.S. and no where compares to vecino and to think I found my favorite in Detroit amazes me. It truly is worth every penny. For what to order: All their appetizers are great. We usually switch it up and are satisfied with each one that we've ordered. The Totopos with salsa are a must and their guac is great as well. For mains- the asada del día is our go to. It is always cooked to perfection and comes with fresh tortillas. And it is hard for me to come by a tortilla in the U.S. that I enjoy. But here, they are excellent. They import their corn from Mexico and you can tell. This is served with bone marrow and some garlic onion spread that goes great on the taco. For dessert- their tres leches is amazing. The coconut cream pairs so well with the cake. I could eat like 10 of them. As if it's not obvious at this point vecino is my favorite restaurant in Detroit and one of my tops in the world. And in the months since I've come here, it remains a super popular spot to go to if you're looking for that extremely lively atmosphere! None of this takes away from the quality of their delicious food! We had incredible dishes and they clearly take a lot of pride in sourcing intentionally all their ingredients for their food, and the waitstaff did their best to intro us to everything, despite how overstimulatingly loud the environment was, so I only came away from each presentation with about half the information they wanted to convey. But all in all, the food was good across the board, and we tried a ton of different dishes. There weren't any that were overwhelming showstoppers that made me want to come back here again and again to try the rest of the menu though, so I left Vecino knowing that I wasn't going to return anytime soon.
