Been here twice in the past two months because it's a great spot for larger parties. Had the same meal. However the first time it was wayyyy better than the second. Not sure why but the meat was seasoned better. Maybe different chefs? That is why i have 4. Would highly recommend though!

I stopped in because I was in the area. I'm glad I did. The sportier was delicious. The server was very nice as well.

Had the shrimp fajitas and presentation was good but the shrimp had not taste or seasoning on it. They could have at least put some salt and pepper but nothing. Service was quick and waitress was nice. Also had a steak chimichangas which was also a mess. It looked more like the gave me grounded beef. Steak usually comes like strips or cubes and the taste was also very bland. The restaurant appeared to be clean.

I had my first ever coronarita here and it was so good and strong. I was scared because I don't like beer so I thought it was going to be a strong mixture of margarita and beer but it wasn't it was a perfect blend. Our server was nice and she took her time with us and vice versa. The salsa is hot so forewarning and then they had this green type of did but it tasted like avocado and queso and when you mixed it with the salsa it was heaven . I ordered three birria tacos with the consume. The consume was a little flavorless but with some lime instantly got better. My cousin ordered guacamole which was pretty good with some salt and lime as well

The best Mexican restaurant in Southwest Detroit. You find it off the corner of Springwells and Vernor. The food is very good best of all it has a very nice looking bar. This place is great for all sporting events especially boxing and at time Lions game. Don't worry about the wait staff trust me when I tell you the service here is 100% on your side the minute you walk in the door. My favorite here is the chicken and beef plate Mare y Tierra. Check out those charro beans they are to die for. The margaritas here will catch up with you if you have more than 2 . The beef or asada has a unique taste on its own. Before you try the others stop here first. That is all. Chief One reality of Yelp. Don't hit on a man's wife here and expect the husband not to find out. Then you will find out reality will reach out and touch you.

So where do I start?! I was hopping around in the Southwest area searching for the best quesabirrias and this location was the fourth on my list. Once I made it here, my search stopped. I was HOOKED like fish on bait. I continuously come back here and have brought and told, as of right now about 8 people about this place. ALL OF THEM are now hooked What a great friend/sister/cousin I am. So I've been here over 10 times and every time I've came, I've had great service, great food, great drinks, and I was in my happy happy joy mode. I've seen people talk about the cleanliness of the place and sometimes, yes, messes are left behind from previous parties and they didn't have the chance to get it cleaned up right away because of the amount of people coming in. You can pick where you wanna sit and once you do, get ready to unlock the party in your tastebuds. The beans are some of thee best that I've had. The oysters are delicious, the quesabirrias are amazing with the consome, the burritos are delicious, the fajitas are just delectable and I could go on and on. TACO TUESDAYS I'm always in here! Lol Well not every Tuesday but just about. This is one of my fav spots. My phone found some old photos of the food I've had here. But when I get here, my mind is on eating.... Not on taking pics. So I gotta get better at that. But if you are in the area, even if you are not.....make the drive anyway! Just do it! You won't be disappointed.

A review you want to read! My best friends grandmother took us to eat here over 15 years ago and I have been making the hour drive to eat here ever since! There's no better authentic food than this place, the service has NEVER let me down and the ambiance is my favorite part about the entire place. Most beautiful taqueria , the menu is huge and the portions are generous all while being so well price!! Make this place your go to spot

First time here and I definitely will be back. The tacos were packed and delicious! The dinner plate included beans, rice, salad, and grilled/roasted onions and peppers. My boyfriend ordered the fried snapper with the ranchero sauce and it was really good. A few other customers around us ordered it as well which attest to how good it is.

Cute little place with an authentic feel! Went with a friend and we sat in a booth. The table was oddly low so we towered over the table and it got to be a bit uncomfortable having to hunch over so much. They also had a very random music situation going on; out of nowhere, this man with a microphone was walking around the restaurant, reading lyrics off his phone and singing Mexican songs. He had a great voice, but it was kind of random and awkward, and it was super loud so it was hard for my friend and I to hear each other talk. Aside from these minor things, it was a great experience. We both ordered carne asada taco dinners, which came with beans and rice. It was delicious. We had strawberry margaritas that weren't very strong but tasted good nonetheless. The staff were all friendly and attentive. I will definitely be returning!

El Nacimiento is a smaller, well decorated mexican restaurant in southwest detroit, featuring a bar and daily happy hour prices. I've been here a couple times and first tried the chorizo tacos, then al pastor. Now, chorizo is usually my favorite meat to put in tacos, but at this restaurant I found it to be rather underwhelming. Despite it being oily, characteristic of chorizo, I still found the taste to be rather dry and not the strongest flavor. So last time I went I went for al pastor tacos instead and I would say this was definitely better than the chorizo! Well flavored, tasty, and a decent amount of meat put on the tacos. I also ordered margaritas both time I went here and I recommend this if you are a tequila fan and are okay with a less sweet margarita! I convinced my friend to get one and since she is not the biggest fan of the tequila flavor she did not enjoy it, but that's on her. Definitely expect a stronger drink with less sugar and juice added if you do order from the bar. Now, onto the service. Last time I went, although there were not many customers and several servers, it took quite a while of us sitting there to even get our order taken. Now, I was not in a rush or anything so I didn't mind this at first, but when I wanted to order another drink it definitely bothered me that I was not checked up on at all throughout the meal and could not get servers attention without audibly calling for them. I will say though, despite brief, the interactions I did have with the staff they were incredibly polite and friendly! Just would've preferred them to be more attentive. Note that this restaurant does have a parking lot & free chips and salsa for customers (and even made cute St patricks themed chips for the holiday!)

    Jenny P.

My experience was a lot better this time around! There was more flavor this time. I was able to tell already by the taste of the complimentary salsa! Service was faster, place was cleaner. Maybe the first time I went, they were short staff but they weren't as busy that time compared to my recent visit. I'm very happy I decided to try this place again. I keep thinking about their horchata. There menu is pretty extensive. I feel like there is something for everyone, even burgers and fries. So someone will definitely find something to eat! Also they have their own poke stop haha.

Very delicious quesabirria + al pastor and cabeza tacos

Lots of tender chunks of flavorful beef swimming in a delicious broth with potato, carrots, onion and some kind of squash. It comes with rice and beans. I sometimes add that to my soup as well. Instead of crackers I use tortilla chips. The chicken soup is equally as good. I don't know why more Mexican restaurants don't offer this option. Mexican soup is much different than gringo soup. I cut everything up into tiny pieces. Mexican soup is entire carrots, a potato cut in half, half an onion. That said it totally works. I highly recommend the soup at Lupita's.

Heads up; it's cash only (atm with $3 fee in the building) and 1 bill per table. I ordered 5 quesadillas to sample the different meats. I'll go from best to worst. The cabeza was rich, but not too overpowering which I've experienced before. No fat either which was great. The asada had a nice flavor and was perfectly tender. The pollo was equally flavorful and tender. All 3 get an A grade. The carnitas was pretty good, but not as tender as the others. Solid B. Finally, the pastor was a bit underwhelming. Simply too saucy to fully enjoy it. A C grade on that. Only negative would be how greasy they were. The tortillas were absolutely drenched in grease which wasn't great. Overall, a solid experience. Wish I would've degreased the tortillas more.

I came last night and it was really busy. I ordered a carnitas burrito, one of my favorites. The food took over 45 minutes to come after we ordered it. Our table ordered 5 tacos and a burrito.... 45 minutes is outrageous. Once it finally came, my burrito was about half the size of what it typically is (posted a photo of my last burrito from here for reference) Then, they cut the burrito and there were pieces of foil all in the burrito (pictured) really not okay. The worst part, there were three massive bones in my burrito!!!!! When I complained, they said that carnitas has bones in it... I've never had bones in my burrito. They asked if I wanted something else and I said I want the same burrito but without bones and they told me that if I got the same meat it would probably also have bones in it so they didn't remake it for me. If I bit down on it I could've broken my tooth or choked. Really really disappointed with my experience last night. I'll be back because this isn't "normal" for them, but I'm really disappointed. The manager ended up comping my burrito and explained to me that sometimes baby bones get through the meat when they're cooking it... you can see from the picture we're not talking about baby bones- these were three massive quarter size bones

I have been trying Mexican restaurants all over the U.S. and no where compares to vecino and to think I found my favorite in Detroit amazes me. It truly is worth every penny. For what to order: All their appetizers are great. We usually switch it up and are satisfied with each one that we've ordered. The Totopos with salsa are a must and their guac is great as well. For mains- the asada del día is our go to. It is always cooked to perfection and comes with fresh tortillas. And it is hard for me to come by a tortilla in the U.S. that I enjoy. But here, they are excellent. They import their corn from Mexico and you can tell. This is served with bone marrow and some garlic onion spread that goes great on the taco. For dessert- their tres leches is amazing. The coconut cream pairs so well with the cake. I could eat like 10 of them. As if it's not obvious at this point vecino is my favorite restaurant in Detroit and one of my tops in the world. I will not be surprised if they are the first ones in Detroit to secure the Michelin star

And in the months since I've come here, it remains a super popular spot to go to if you're looking for that extremely lively atmosphere! None of this takes away from the quality of their delicious food! We had incredible dishes and they clearly take a lot of pride in sourcing intentionally all their ingredients for their food, and the waitstaff did their best to intro us to everything, despite how overstimulatingly loud the environment was, so I only came away from each presentation with about half the information they wanted to convey. But all in all, the food was good across the board, and we tried a ton of different dishes. There weren't any that were overwhelming showstoppers that made me want to come back here again and again to try the rest of the menu though, so I left Vecino knowing that I wasn't going to return anytime soon. It's definitely for a specific mindset and type of celebratory occasion, which is often not the one I'm in when I'm going out to eat with friends.
