Have been here at least 6 times with parties of 10 or more and a few times more solo. Ambiance is great, the salsa that comes out first is incredible, and the servers are kind and fast. No one I have gone with has ever had an issue with their food, I have personally tried every taco and taco dinner combo on the menu and have yet to find one I don't like. The horchata here and the flan bring it up to 10/10 for me. Simply must try. Came here to watch World Cup games and discovered a nice Mexican restaurant. Lots of tvs, small bar area, good service. Waitress really was on top of it with water, drinks and food, all timely and served hot. Lots of booths along the walls and nice mix of seating for 2-4-6 people. Clean and very typical Mexican decor. Very nice and plenty of free parking. Relaxed atmosphere and good vibes. Food was good. Fajitas mixed and tacos of carne asada. Guacamole was chunky (how I like it) w/a little kick(how we ordered and how I like it). Chips were fresh and salsas were delicious with varying degrees of spiciness and flavor. Beer was cold (negra modelo) and margarita authentic (no mix). We saw plenty of other plates come out of the kitchen and it all looked good and smelled better. We will be back. I love Nacimiento! We most often come here for breakfast but we've ordered other things as well. I prefer huevos con chorizo from here though because most of the Mexican restaurants in Toledo don't offer it. Or it doesn't taste the same. I also love ordering coffee from here and sometimes will crave it. They brew their coffee with cinnamon sticks and it's delicious! Never had a bad experience. Service is always great. The chips and different salsas they bring with the chips are fantastic. The green/avocado one is definitely my favorite. read more

Got takeout for dinner and it was very good. I ordered the San Francisco burrito without pico. It was a good portion size and the asada was excellent. Great flavor and very tender. On its own, the burrito was a little dry. Guacamole would have really elevated this for me. However, the two salsas that came on the side were delicious and made up for the dryness. Both were slightly spicy (noticeable kick but nothing crazy) and really complimented the burrito quite nicely. All in all, a very solid burrito. read more

The first thing I would point out about El Nacimiento is its vibe. It's just an awesome, old-Detroit Mexican restaurant. It's bright and lively inside, which I really appreciated, because sometimes the Mexican spots in Southwest can be dark and somewhat formal (like Xochi) or like you're eating at a diner (Evie's). This is a spot where you can have a good time and not feel like you're standing out. I was there on a Tuesday night and it was hopping. I had a ton of fun and would happily bring a date or friends here. I got the Taco dinner with the Consome to dip the tacos in, and I really liked it. I appreciate that they have a lot exotic options to fill the tacos like Beef Tripe and Chitlins. Not many spots do this, but it's great if you're a little adventurous and want to try a wild card Taco. Tacos were good size (not huge) and they tasted great dipped in the Consome. My Lomo tacos were really good if you're a fan something with a kick. The Pastor tacos were very good, traditional tacos that anyone would feel comfortable eating. The service was awesome, and our waitress was great. Food came out quick and she was incredibly sweet for the entire visit. The only drawback would be it's a pretty decent ways from Downtown, so if you're going here before an event, leave some time. I had my first ever coronarita here and it was so good and strong. I was scared because I don't like beer so I thought it was going to be a strong mixture of margarita and beer but it wasn't it was a perfect blend. Our server was nice and she took her time with us and vice versa. The salsa is hot so forewarning and then they had this green type of did but it tasted like avocado and queso and when you mixed it with the salsa it was heaven . The best Mexican restaurant in Southwest Detroit. You find it off the corner of Springwells and Vernor. The food is very good best of all it has a very nice looking bar. This place is great for all sporting events especially boxing and at time Lions game. Don't worry about the wait staff trust me when I tell you the service here is 100% on your side the minute you walk in the door. My favorite here is the chicken and beef plate Mare y Tierra. Check out those charro beans they are to die for. The margaritas here will catch up with you if you have more than 2 . The beef or asada has a unique taste on its own. Cute little place with an authentic feel! Went with a friend and we sat in a booth. The table was oddly low so we towered over the table and it got to be a bit uncomfortable having to hunch over so much. They also had a very random music situation going on; out of nowhere, this man with a microphone was walking around the restaurant, reading lyrics off his phone and singing Mexican songs. He had a great voice, but it was kind of random and awkward, and it was super loud so it was hard for my friend and I to hear each other talk. Aside from these minor things, it was a great experience. We both ordered carne asada taco dinners, which came with beans and rice. It was delicious. We specifically chose to go to El Nacimiento last night because there was an offer via the Entertainment.com site. The food was very good and the atmosphere was nice. Before the bill was brought to the table, I handed the server the coupon and she looked confused. Came back a few minutes later and told me they aren't affiliated with Entertainment and do not accept these coupons. Clearly they were affiliated at one time since Entertainment doesn't just randomly make up deals for their business. The right thing to do would've been to at least offer a smaller discount and a apology. But they offered nothing. Businesses offer coupons to bring in customers and build good will. Refusing to accept them has an even worse effect. There are lots of choices for Mexican food in this area; El Nacimiento will no longer be one of our choices. read more

El Nacimiento is a smaller, well decorated mexican restaurant in southwest detroit, featuring a bar and daily happy hour prices. I've been here a couple times and first tried the chorizo tacos, then al pastor. Now, chorizo is usually my favorite meat to put in tacos, but at this restaurant I found it to be rather underwhelming. Despite it being oily, characteristic of chorizo, I still found the taste to be rather dry and not the strongest flavor. So last time I went I went for al pastor tacos instead and I would say this was definitely better than the chorizo! Well flavored, tasty, and a decent amount of meat put on the tacos. I also ordered margaritas both time I went here and I recommend this if you are a tequila fan and are okay with a less sweet margarita! I convinced my friend to get one and since she is not the biggest fan of the tequila flavor she did not enjoy it, but that's on her. Definitely expect a stronger drink with less sugar and juice added if you do order from the bar. Now, onto the service. Last time I went, although there were not many customers and several servers, it took quite a while of us sitting there to even get our order taken. Now, I was not in a rush or anything so I didn't mind this at first, but when I wanted to order another drink it definitely bothered me that I was not checked up on at all throughout the meal and could not get servers attention without audibly calling for them. I will say though, despite brief, the interactions I did have with the staff they were incredibly polite and friendly! Just would've preferred them to be more attentive. I came here because I was dropped off by an Uber not far and needed a place to get a few drinks to crunch some time. Not gonna lie, the ambiance is nice, and I could tell just by the salsa alone that I would be coming back to get some food. AMAZING SERVICE! The person taking care of me was super nice and attentive. The only issue was I got two margaritas and they were the weakest drinks I ever had. I even got a second one to give it another chance and it was basically just sipping mixers. Honestly, I was drinking before I got there too and was drinking the whole time I was there. By the time I left for some reason it seemed like the drinks had so little alcohol I was able to sober up completely. Recently I took care of a patient at the hospital, a Hispanic gentleman from SW Detroit who also happened to be a chef (not at this restaurant). Of course, I asked for his opinion on Mexican restaurants in the area, and this place was his #1 recommendation as the being the best. I'm glad that I listened to him. Omg. I've eaten at many Mexican restaurants in my lifetime, and I can honestly say that this was the best Mexican food that I've ever had. The flavors! Everything was so flavorful and fresh - and if you like cilantro (I love cilantro), you will love it here. This isn't a fancy place, it's located in the industrial area of SW Detroit - you could smell Zug Island in the air, but they have a very nice, large, and secure parking lot in back. Walk in, and we quickly realized that we were the only "gringos" in the place - a good sign - and we were seated immediately on a Saturday night. Ordered the house margarita ($6) which was a great price, and delicious with the spiced salt on the rim of the glass. My boys were both excited that Mexican sodas are offered on the menu, too. They also bring an assortment of salsas with chips to the table - a mildy spiced green salsa, a hot salsa, and a smoky chipotle salsa - all were very flavorful. We also ordered the guacamole dip, which you can order with "everything", and it was loaded with onions, tomatoes, and cilantro. It was fabulous. I ordered two chile rellenos, and I couldn't finish them - they were big peppers (and very spicy, yum!) and loaded with cheese. My boys had a chimichanga dinner and an enchilada dinner, and I've never seen these two kids swoon like they did over food like they did at this place. Mom win :) And the prices were incredibly reasonable - a guacamole app, four sodas, one margarita, one beer, and three entrees for a little over $50. Can't beat that. Loved this place. read more

Food was disgusting. Steak burrito was made with the frozen STEAKUMS brand meat for philly cheesesteaks. Its was old as well. Everything they gave me tasted spoiled & super old. My drink was even nasty. Also the waiter literally leaned over the table and looked in my wallet to see how much money I had after asking me if I wanted to tip on my card or in cash. Very forceful.
