I have been wanting to try this place for a while now. I was excited to hear it is Korean owned after noticing kimchi and some staple Korean dishes on the menu as well. I was craving and wanting some kimbap rolls but not after finding out they would be charging me the $10 per 8 piece roll when I don't eat beef. I can buy a fresh 9 piece roll from Kagopa for $3, that's insane and highway robbery to charge $10 for my specified roll. I notice they really get you with their specialty rolls and note there are several rolls where they only come as a 5 piece rolls too, the majority are 8 rolls. I ordered 2 house salads, Mexican roll, sweet potato roll and 3 Cali special rolls cream cheese ($1) and green onion ($.50) added to them. The interior looks rather rough and cheaply done, it doesn't look finished actually. Was told it would take 20 minutes for my carry out order and there's only one sushi chef working and it's a super small station and there was not one customer in the dining area either. Keeping an open mind until I try the food. The ginger dressing is mostly sweet, can't distinguish any ginger flavoring at all. The house salad isn't special at all. The California special roll is nice and creamy, fresh and delicious and so was the sweet potato roll with the addition of the cream cheese. My husband enjoyed his Mexican roll, nice touch with the jalapeño slice on top. I get that people come here for strictly the sushi, that's what they excel at for sure. I would agree their sushi was the best part of the meal luckily.

Perhaps the greatest find I've had in the last two years. I was in the mood for some sushi and yelped nearby places to midtown. Called and was promptly answered and placed my order. It was ready in 15 minutes. When I got back to the office to eat I was surprised about how much thought they put in a carry out order. The miso soup was wrapped in plastic so it was still hot when I got back to my office. The spring rolls and sushi were well packed and they gave you a small bag filled with your sauces. The food was delicious. The miso soup was filled with tofu and seaweed. My coworker raved about their special California roll and my avocado roll was fresh and delicious. Better yet all of it was affordable. Awesome service, awesome food And I've been back 3 times in a month.

Spicy salmon hand roll, Sunday morning rolls, yam yam rolls, and chicken teriyaki. I put some of it in one container to snack. ‍

This is the first time I've been here and I found them completely by accident! I do like they have a small lobby so not many people can come in. I ordered only five items on the menu that I wanted to try to determine if I was going to return in the future. I ordered the yam yam rolls, and the Sunday morning rolls they were cold but I didn't complain this time. I also ordered the seaweed salad and regular salad Firecracker we and this is awesome . I enjoyed my spicy salmon hand roll. The chicken teriyaki is okay but it's slightly dry but nothing I couldn't handle. Overall I will be returning to this location Little SaladSeaweed SaladYam Yam Roll

We were excited to see Fat Salmon was still doing their thing during the age of COVID. And doing it safely! We ordered some of the basics as well as a couple special rolls. They were quick, ready when I showed up, and tasted incredible. They also had some of the best prices for sushi I've seen in the area - rock on! Shout out to small business working their butts extra hard during these wild times! We appreciate you!! Thank you thank you!!

Another fantastic find of a restaurant in Detroit. I went here purely based off the reviews, and I'm glad I made the decision! I ordered food to go, and i was very pleasantly surprised. The food here is very good and at a reasonable price as well. The tempura rolls are phenomenal. Perfect crunchiness, and so much flavor bursting from each bite with all the different sauces and ingredients. I've realized I'm a big fan of tempura sushi, and this place does it very well. The staff was friendly when I picked up my food as well, and I look forward to trying different rolls here sometime in the future!

I like Fat Salmon Sushi. It's casual, the food is good, the prices are right, it's BYOB and unlike downtown you can get a table on Saturday night. If you aren't looking for a scene Fat Sushi is your spot. Bonus: the bathroom is clean and there is hand soap Recommendation: the ginger dressing is a little too sweet

This restaurant is open for carry out during COVID. I ordered a crunch roll, last Vegas roll, spicy salmon avocado roll, miso soup, and house salad. Every last bute was delicious! This sushi restaurant is also reasonably priced which is a huge selling point for me. I will absolutely be back.

I work in Hamtramck and while there are a lot of great places to get food around here, there isn't a lot of options for Asian take out. So I was happy to find out about this spot that has Japanese cuisine! I ordered the Chicken Fried Rice which was great! Really good quality ingredients and it wasn't like some kind of mediocre fried rice that you get at the mall food court. The portion size was also great and more than I was expecting - I love to have leftovers and I definitely had plenty! Looking forward to trying more off their menu in the future!

This is my #1 favorite sushi restaurant!! I would eat here every day if I could! The staff is so nice and the sushi is so fresh!! Highly recommend this place.

    $10 Bulgogi entree tasted great

I had higher expectations. The menu I realized had a limited selection of sushi rolls/ special rolls and sashimi. I ordered the shumai 6 piece appetizer and it visually did not look appetizing it literally tasted like it came from a frozen box. The spicy chicken wings tasted much better. Only one server was available helping 3 other tables. We ordered California Roll, spicy tuna and avocado roll were super small. My hand roll the spicy salmon which was $1 less had more fish and tasted great. Their bulgogi entree for $10 was delicious you had a choice of soup or salad and of course rice on the side. We ordered 2 specialty rolls: the joe Campau roll and the Bulgogi roll both did taste great. Here's the kicker I didn't mind waiting for napkins and forks I get there was 1 server but when you were charged .50 for a small amount of siracha that surprised me. The server didn't tell me there would be a charge. It's the service and the waiting and waiting that bothered me. Oh and they don't have soda machines you will receive cans (I didn't mind this at all) I don't think I'll be back yes it may seem cheaper but for the portion size it will adds up. - metered parking .25 = 1 hour.

I would give 0 stars if possible Called in to order hand rolls, and asked for no rice. They assured me they could do so, so we ordered 4 hand rolls no rice. Attached is a photo of what we got when we opened the container at home ..... this is a small square to go container for reference Literally the most sneaky and awful thing a restaurant has ever tried to pass off as okay. They charged $7 each for these ... This little box costed $30.... How could you sell this to a customer? Either say you can't do it or get it right. Shoving this in the to go bag and accepting our money was unprofessional and frankly absurd.

I ordered the fried chicken karate bowl and the chicken wasn't too dry, rice was cooked well and the kewpie sauce complemented the chicken. My friend loved her miso butter ramen. It was a huge portion and she couldn't eat it all. My only complaint is that the bathrooms could have used a touchup but everything else was great.

Hubby and I laughed at how many times we zipped past the restaurant without noticing it. My husband and I both ordered the Major Tom Khatsu, which has a coconut chicken broth base. The chicken katsu pieces were the perfect level of crispy without being heavily breaded. There was also a nice little kick to the dish, which made it so, so yummy. Our friends got the Shoyu ramen with pork belly, and the Corned Beef ramen. The Shoyu dish seemed to be more enjoyable. Though we stuck with water, cans of Faygo pop seemed to be the drink offerings - other than alcoholic beverages. Areas for improvement include the waiting. Johnny Noodle King is a small place, with a main dining area and then what seems to be a bar area attached. We initially waited by the door for our table along with another small group (we were a party of four). We were then asked to go to the bar area to wait so that it would clear the door, but found it interesting how we were asked to move but not the other group. Also, we were standing away from the doormat we were not obstructing anyone's movements. The wait was long, and we asked if we could order food to the bar area (as opposed to waiting for a table). We were told 'no', yet there was a table full of patrons who were eating. There was no notification system, so our friend had to keep going to the front to see if our table was ready. Don't get me wrong; 'hooray' to Johnny Noodle King for having such great business volume. However, they need a way to manage it so that people will not be put off. Once we were seated, we did have good service from our waitstaff, and the food was very good. My husband and I plan to return to explore more of the menu. Hopefully, we can pick a time of day when waiting won't be such a big issue.
