Somtum corn salad
Francis S.

Went to Fish Cheeks for my birthday and it was such a cool experience. The restaurant looks so tiny from the outside but once inside it was very spacious and has a colorful decor/design. I loved the interior so much; it give the best ambiance. Our waitress was really nice and helped break down the menu for us. We decided to have the Selection number 2, that feeds two. For the starter, we got the Somtum Corn salad and Zabb Wings. The corn salad was fresh and spicy and the wings was fried to perfection.. and the seasoning was delicious. The main was Coconut Crab Curry, 30 Day Dry Aged Beef Kaprow and Fried Fish with Garden Herb Salad. The Coconut Crab Curry was one of the best dishes that night. sooo creamy and flavorful. The Fried Fish was also really good. By time the 30 Day Dry beef came out we were getting so full. At the end of the night they brought out sauteed cabbage, which was really good but a little too salty. Overall it was a 10/10 experience. From the food, service and vibes, it was a cool experience to have.

I was blown away by Fish Cheeks. It's been on my list for quite some time and I'm so happy i was able to snag an early dinner reservation. It's such a cute location and the service was pretty good. On resy, it says you have about 2 hours for the reservation but i never felt rushed during my dinner. Now the food?! SENSATIONAL. Highly highly recommend the Branzino because i was blown away by the flavors of it all. It was so moist and from the cilantro, the lime, the thai chili pepper....heated over an open flame, i was in heaven!! Such a highlight of my meal. I also had the zaab wings and they were so juicy, hot and had a crunchy skin (and i LOVE. A crunchy skin). I loved my dinner here and i cannot wait to go back!

Steamed Fish

Steamed Fish, Squid Ink Calamari, Pork Belly Chili Garlic & the Oysters were my favorites here! Loved the bright & punchy flavors of each dish and the delicious sauce served with the oysters (happy hour deal is solid) Thai iced tea was a bit too milky for my liking, and the green curry left a bit to be desired - would take it up a notch if there was some meat/protein in there! Great place to catch up with friends over tasty Thai food.

Steamed Fish with Thai Herbs - Must get and star of the show

This is definitely a treat and highlight everytime I visit and the food is consistent across multiple locations, I highly recommend making a reservation as it gets busy and it's recommended you share dishes family-style so you can try many different entrees! The must get dish is the Steamed Fish with Thai Herbs, flavorful and tender and the debone the fish for you which is so nice and the broth is very comforting. The rest of the dishes were flavorful and the coconut crab curry was also warm with a nice kick and they were generous with the crab but don't skip the fish!!! Definitely recommend stopping by!

Thai Seafood is not a cuisine I'm too familiar with, so I've been wanting to try Fish Cheeks for some time now (seeing it ranked on multiple "Top Thai" places in New York. I'm glad to say my experience trying Fish Cheeks in their Williamsburg location did not disappoint! Their menu is very extensive with a diverse selection of Thai Seafood dishes, but here's what we tried: Fried Fish with Garden Herb Salad ($40) - A whole fried rainbow trout, with cilantro, cashews, Thai chili, pineapple, and ginger. This was my favorite dish of the night - the flavor and texture of the fried trout combined with the Thai chili and other spices/salad ingredients created a unique sweet/savory/spicy flavor that was incredible. Would order this again. Coconut Crab Curry - Was very yummy, a nice blend of sweet and savory with the coconut flavor and crab meat. A unique Thai curry. Grilled Pork Cheeks - Marinated in fish sauce, the pork was high quality, tender, and flavorful. Next time I come back, I'd want to try the steamed fish with Thai herbs, Rawaaeng duck curry, and Zabb wings. The vibes are lively and beautifully decorated in Thai-inspired art, while also being modern. Definitely would come back!

Free chips and spicy sweet chili paste

5 stars! From the hostess to the wait staff, the support wait staff, and the kitchen. The space is bigger than it looks and very busy. I appreciate the tables are spaced out so you are not on top of each other. I imagine when it is busy busy this can be a problem. We were seated quickly because of our reservation. The complimentary chips and sticky spicy chili paste was great! Healthy funyons in my opinion. We started with the squid ink calamari. The flavor is so layered and sweeter than you would think. Calamari perfectly sautéed not chewy but a little... I had the scallops and every bite i consumed. Tender flavorful scallops in a sauce that i could eat with just rice. Because i did! My bestie had the whole fried fish. Perfect perfection with flavor, fried crispy and every bite was amazing. For dessert we had the sticky rice coconut ice cream wit jackfruit. It was good. Not amazing, good enough to eat again and the entire place i will revisit. A must eat for fishy people. Yes chicken and beef items, it's the fish that shines here!

Fish Cheeks is a quintessential Williamsburg restaurant, if you're looking for traditional Thai, this is not it. The menu is seafood forward. Walked in on a Saturday afternoon, the host was a little snotty when we told him we didn't have a reservation. There was no availability, I suggest making a reservation. When I checked Resy about two hours before I arrived, there were some openings, but by time I got there they were all gone. The restaurant is small, not group friendly. We sat at the bar, the bartender was very friendly & attentive. Cocktails- I ordered the tongue & cheek, which was fruity and refreshing. My friend had a bourbon cocktail that was made with duck fat! Both drinks were good. They have happy hour every day from 12 to 5. The oysters are also part of the happy hour, they were small and the sauce they were served with was very tasty. The mussel skewer appetizer was also very good, also served with a flavorful spicy peanut sauce. The zabb wings were fried to perfection, needed a little more flavor for me, I prefer saucy wings. For entrée, I had the crab curry and my friend had the beef kaprow. Both dishes were delicious, a shareable portion, but definitely not family style like the website describes. The curry was similar to a massaman curry with a little more spice, I like that the crab was served in lumps. The beef was very tasty, Each entrée was served with jasmine rice. The Thai iced tea was mediocre. Overall a great spot and a perfect location. Pricier than a typical Thai restaurant.

Food has great flavor and spice. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the dishes, but I highly recommend the whole steamed fish (bonus for being pretty much boneless). Fish cheeks also has a dedicated gluten free menu which is really nice. My only gripe would be that the seats are so close, it's very awkward getting in and out of your seat. Interior is decorated very nicely.

The vibe in the restaurant is very welcoming and quaint. Very colorful and we were seating by the front so we got good sunlight from the front window. The food here is very good. Coconut Crab Curry lives up to its reputation. Their Branzino is phenomenal. And the wings are seasoned to perfection. We even had some of their Pine Nut Ice Cream for desert with sticky rice which perfectly topped everything off.

We made a reservation and was promptly seated when we arrived in a quieter room in the back. And a reservation is highly recommended. We made a reservation a month in advance and the prime times were already booked. The entire staff was very attentive and we were given water and menus very quickly. Every time a dish came we were told what it was a quick summary on the ingredients, something I very much appreciated. Chips with jam(?): Sounds really weird but this little free appetizer was delicious. Pandan Lemongrass Ice Tea: It sounded really interesting and it tasted even more so. The lemongrass flavor was really strong and set up the flavor profile for the rest of the night. Grilled Pork Cheeks: Very tender and flavorful. The sauce has a little kick to it but the pork pieces were good enough on their own. Zabb Wings: Comes with 4 full wings, medium sized, spicy. A must get. They came out piping hot and with wipes for your fingers. Coconut Crab Curry: Very strong coconut flavor with clumps of crab meat. I have very low spice tolerance but with jasmine rice helped. It was one of those dishes where it was a tad too spicy for me but I didn't want to stop eating it. Beef Kaprow: Also accompanied by a bowl of jasmine rice and a fried duck egg. This was a bit salty and spicy, but again tempered by the neutral jasmine rice. Crab Aob Woonsen: Probably my favorite of the three main dishes (because it wasn't spicy) but a tad on the sweet side. Also has clumps of crab meat in it. Pandan Ice cream over sticky rice: Our favorite item of the night, and it wasn't even on the menu. We couldnt finish any of the main dishes but we asked the waiter if they had any dessert and this is the only dessert they serve. We love anything pandan so we were intrigued. The sticky rice was warm and sweet and slightly melted the pandan ice cream which made the dessert even creamier. Even if you need to save some tummy space and bring some food home, this is a must get.

I've had Fish Cheeks bookmarked for quite some time, and being that we were only about seven minutes away, we decided to finally give it a try. On a Friday night with no reservations available online, I fully expected it to be rough--but we went for it anyway. The moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by the hostess, who let us know they had one table for two available for an hour. We jumped at the opportunity. Once seated, we were gifted shrimp toast with a dip so delicious I honestly wished I could take a bottle home. The menu is extensive, but it happened to be Restaurant Week, and they were offering a three-course prix fixe for $60. Starter, entrée, and dessert--with all the heavy-hitter favorites included--an absolute no-brainer. For starters, we ordered the raw marinated crabs and the Zab Zab wings. The crabs packed a serious punch--spicy, bold, and incredibly refreshing, the kind of dish that leaves you wanting more. The wings were perfectly fried, dusted in seasoning, and insanely flavorful. I also have to point out that for a tasting menu, the portion sizes were shockingly generous--pretty damn impressive. For entrées, we chose the branzino, the crispy pork, and added the crab fried rice. The rice came out first and let me tell you--this is an absolute must-try. Light, perfectly cooked, and loaded with fresh lumps of crab meat, it was pure perfection. I genuinely couldn't stop eating it. The branzino was soft and buttery, paired with a sauce that elevated the dish beautifully. And the crispy pork? Hands down the best I've ever had. The crunch, the heat, the flavor--everything complemented each other perfectly and made it an unforgettable dish. By this point, the portions had defeated us, so we packed up what we couldn't finish--still knowing dessert was coming. Dessert was pandan ice cream over warm sticky rice, and I was instantly impressed. I only wish the portion was bigger because it was that good and left me wanting more. Overall, Fish Cheeks completely lived up to the hype. Incredible food, generous portions, amazing flavors, and an attentive, welcoming staff. A solid 10/10 experience--I will most definitely be back.

One of my top 5 restaurants in NYC! The steamed branzino was INSANE. So soft, so light and it comes in the tastiest broth. We ate the whole thing clean and its the best branzino ive ever had. Wings were flavorful too! The service was great. Super attentive and friendly. The inside space is busy at the front and has a bit more space in the back area. The restrooms are clean. Id highly recommend fish cheeks and it is one of my favorite NYC restaurants!

I've been eyeing this Thai it-spot for a while, so when a friend invited me to the newer Brooklyn location, I was quick to say yes. The ambience was more casual than I expected, though it was a Monday night, so that may have played a role. Our server was extremely kind and attentive when I mentioned that I don't tolerate spice well, he thoughtfully guided me toward dishes he felt would work best for me. The menu is very seafood-forward, though there are a few meat options as well, including the popular chicken wings, duck, and some pork dishes. I ordered the coconut crab curry, which unfortunately ended up being a bit too spicy for my taste, and the heat couldn't be adjusted. In general, many items on the menu lean spicy--even the morning glory vegetable side had noticeable heat. My friends shared the fried whole fluke, which is one of their signature dishes. Everything I tasted was good, but nothing stood out as exceptional for me. Prices were reasonable and not outrageous for the quality and location. If I were to return, I'd likely try the fried fish or the wings, though the overall spice level does limit my options. 3.5/5

Pad Kee Mao (aka Drunken Noodles), chicken $15.00 Stir-fried flat rice noodle, bamboo shoots, garlic, basil, fresh chili, onion, carrot, string bean, bell pepper, long hot chili The flat rice noodle quantity was sufficient, but minimal and there were too much onion, insufficient string bean, two paucity pieces of carrot. I dislike bamboo shoot which is not a standard ingredient for this particular entrée. I think the bamboo shoot tainted this entrée. I am a traditionalist conservative which bean sprouts is a good substitute variation for bamboo shoot vegetable including string bean. This entrée is my favorite default and as a caveat, if any Thai restaurant or cafe do not offer on their menu I refuse entry to patronize. This entrée enticed my interest and embedded the lunch meal menu for the reasonable price. I personally despise and do not consume spicy hot foods, but occasionally consume mild or very mild in the smallest measurement of the Scoville scale which I specifically requested, but received medium hot spicy. The waitress forewarned me the intense heat level on the Scoville scale as Thai cultural spicy with two or more bird's eye chilies for a high level of spiciness. The spiciness of chili peppers were, in my opinion, medium spicy. Despite the intense medium heat spiciness, the stir-fried noodles lacked flavor with, tender chicken, minimal vegetables, and Thai basil in a bland taste. I wish I chosen shrimp as the protein. Pad Kee Mao sustained my hunger pangs and ate my fill. When eating Thai intense heat spicy foods, I visualize to think of the TV segment "Niall Horan & James Corden Take On Hot Wings" on "The Late Late Show with James Corden" in March, 2020. High heat spicy foods! Thai ice tea, large $3.00 This was a delight and neutralized the heat spiciness because it contains milk. It was served chilled in a large highball glass. Samyan is a Thai cafe located in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, NYC and accessible via MTA NYC Transit C local train at Clinton-Washington subway station. This cafe is a independently owned and operated, thankfully. The waitress did check-in with me during my meal for attentive customer service. The atmospheric conditions were a simple small dine-in cafe. There were many paintings, portraits hanging on their walls of white subway tiles. Gold metallic metal chopsticks and fork are provided. If utensils are gold then the interior cafe should contain these "gaudy" feature extensive gold elements, including gilded moldings and furniture. Peony rose are very simply and made pretty table centerpiece decorations. Takeout menu and business cards are available for grabs. I did received my sales receipt. At the bottom of the sales receipt there is a suggested gratuity in intervals of 18%, 20% and 22% where customers do not have to perform math calculation. I paid $23.00 in cash as the waitress' informative knowledge of the ingredients and preparation of the heat level on the Scoville scale.

Call it suffering for beauty, in a culinary wrapper. Ugly Baby took this S&M theater to its logical conclusion in all regards: tuck it in an inaccessible corner of South Brooklyn; use tiny chairs and brusquely inform diners they have an hour start to finish at their table. The more inconvenient it was, the better. I held my applause after my single visit to Ugly Baby, which closed amidst wails and lamentation last year from people who liked rough treatment. But something drew me back to this reincarnation, started by the same people. Maybe, I thought, they'd found a way to bring us that magnetic authenticity, and hold the ball gags and chain flails? The answer is no. I should have known from the name alone: another mysterious two-word phrase (both of whose words again end in -y) that sounds like it could be an overly literal translation of some ineffable Thai concept. I should have known when it opened in the same godforsaken corner of ... what is that? Gowanus? I should have known from the protracted negotiations for a suitable table that followed when my husband, mom and I arrived punctually for our 5:30 reservation and were primly informed we'd be squeezing onto a two top, then were refused an obviously empty three-top ("it's reserved"....oh you mean by a party of three with a reservation like us?), and then grudgingly seated at a four-top, half of which was literally in the kitchen. I should have known after being apprised that "you have one hour at the table." I should have known when there were no appetizers or desserts, and only two vegetarian entrees. This is the same thing as before. We're so back, baby. The mushroom curry, with its single fire emoj, was nowhere near the spiciest thing on the menu, but gosh was it still spicy. How do they make food with such complex flavors that's still hot enough to have emanated from the bowels of hell? It has to be one of the best curries I've had. It's a talent, special even, but it could easily coexist without Hungry Thirsty's other downsides. But I think all those inconveniences and discomforts are the point. They serve to reinforce the specialness of the special parts, counterintuitively increasing your mental investment in internally extolling Hungry Thirsty's virtues. They are to each element what spice is to food: it hurts, and you're proud that it hurts. It all adds up to the second coming of Ugly Baby, and why wouldn't it? I'd never had Khao Soi before coming here and I was blown away. The chiangmai sausage is also delicious. The roasted duck curry boasts deep flavor while also maintaining the crispiest duck skin. For appetizers, we started with the crispy salmon belly bites and the moo ping. Frying salmon is risky, but the fattiness of the belly keeps it from drying out. The moo ping is nicely grilled and served with a sweet sauce. You just can't go wrong ordering meat on a stick. As an entree, I tried the Gaeng Awm Nur, a soup-like beef dish served with a side of sticky rice. Our server had been really nice and welcoming, so I felt ok asking how I should eat my meal. She advised that I make a ball of some sticky rice with my hand, mash it a bit, and then dip it into the soup. Thai food achievement unlocked! Now I know what to do next time I'm served sticky rice. There's so much on the menu it can be hard to choose. This is encouragement to go with someone else who enjoys food so you can choose things to share!
