Saw this on my Instagram and decided to check them out my anniversary. So glad we did the atmosphere was cozy/modern. Great for date night or to catch up with friends. Waitstaff was very attentive. Currently the place is Byob, while they wait to get their liquor license. Now for the food. We had the spicy tuna sandwich which was one of our favorites. It was fresh and flavorful. The Volcano Roll was a deconstructed roll with fried shrimp, avocado and cucumber. Loved the freshness and crunch, but could've done without some of the extra seeds and crisps. The Gomtang Ramyun Comfort had a bold beef flavor, the beef was nice and tender the dish was even better with the sauce added. Pork Katsu was Moist, crispy and delicious. It did have a citrus flavor which I wasn't expecting and would have enjoyed more without that seasoning. For dessert we got the Snow White. Beautiful presentation so refreshing. DO NOT SKIP! It's an Apple-shaped shaved ice with little bites of apple hidden inside. Was truly the perfect ending to a great meal. read more

LOVE Konban, was excited to try Konya! Was sadly disappointed :( We had a reservation for 7 and were immediately told they'd need the table back by 8:30. No problem. Upon being seated the hostess went to another table and told them they'd had 30 min left, when it was clear they didn't get their full meal yet. We experienced the same, she came over and told us we had 30 min left. Food service was a little slow overall and the last dishes didn't come out till we had 15 min left. Food wise: EHH WOULD SKIP: Jajang Prawns Gambas, def mini shrimp vibes, heavy on the gambas, just adding marketing buzz words with the prawns. No jajang flavor, it was unfortunately just giving salty, oily tar. We each had a bite and couldn't finish the rest. Galbi Gyoza, LOTS of flavor but not necessarily in a good way, there's a lot going on from the seasoning in the actual meat to the strong sauce flavor. The crunch on top was nice ~ maybe for some but overall flavor was just not it for us. GOOD: Corn ribs were basic but good, love these at konban, the lime and cheese dust pairs nicely. Mushroom risotto was nice, good smokey flavor on the mushrooms, risotto was mush, nice to call it a risotto, it was more like a paste but the mushrooms really save the dish. STAR OF THE SHOW FOR US. Pork tenderloin katsu was very tender and had a good crust. Basic, would be sad if they messed this up. Overall, fine. Would much rather head back to Konban and let Konya figure out the menu a bit more. read more

Konya is the newest sister restaurant to the popular Konban, which is reflected from the menu to the aesthetics of the space. It's a great way for the same dishes when in the Williamsburg area. To start off, we got a shooter of the Hojicha Yuzu Spirit and a mini tomato and cream cheese starter, which was refreshing. For our main dishes, we ordered a number of items between the two of us. Since they're on the smaller portions, it was not bad trying a number of items. The ones I had before were the Corn Ribs ($15) and Mazemen ($21), which were just as I remembered. We also ordered the Scallion Chicken ($19) and Tsukune ($14), which were solid. I wish there was more of the tsukune but less of the scallion chicken. All items were good, but only thing that I'd really come back for is the corn ribs. The seasoning on those are fingerlickin' good! Even though we were pretty full, we couldn't help but also get the Ube Tiramisu ($14). I like the idea and flavor was there, but something felt missing. Overall, Konya is so similar to Konban that I wouldn't go out of my way if you've already tried one or the other. Otherwise, beautiful restaurant with refined Japanese-Korean dishes. read more

Pleasantly surprised that the portion size felt slightly larger here than at Konban Kampachi Crudo (5/5): Loved this dish! Super fresh fish with a perfectly balanced, tangy sauce. Butter Scallop (4.5/5): Reordered this without realizing it, but actually enjoyed the flavor and texture at Konya more! Generally enjoyed Konya and the spacious and very sunny back patio. The lunch/snack we had was decent though this is on the higher end in terms of price. We ordered from the main menu and got the carrot bibimpap, pork loin katsu, and the tobiko clam ravioli. The plate portions left us wanting more! Konya is the sister restaurant of Konban in the city and knowing this, we were confident that their pork katsus were going to be perfectly cooked and out of this world. They were in fact, legit! We tried multiple items off their menu and every bite was better than the last. I have to highly recommend their katsu sando and mazemen. Great place for Japanese/Korean food but with a twist! Shared 5 dishes among three people and also tried two desserts. Would say it was the perfect amount of food. Started off with the shrimp yuzu salad, which was refreshing for spring. We also had the spicy tuna sandwich which comes with a spicy mayo that was good. It is essentially like a onigiri but in a rice sandwich form. We got the tenderloin katsu, which is good and just like the one you would get at konban, their sidter restaurant. The yaki chicken was very juicy and cooked to the perfect texture with some acidic vegetables. The risotto was a nice balance of cheesy with mushrooms and rounded everything out. For dessert, the ube tiramisu is good but did feel a bit too sweet the more you ate it, would definitely be a dessert to share. I did appreciate the fried sweet potato chip on top. The black sesame honey bread was the perfect sweetness and well done with the crunchy toast that would soften up with the ice cream. Service was great and fast. Especially loved the amuse bouche at the beginning with the hojicha yuzu cider and the tomato and cheese. Ambiance was great, very cute light wood elements that felt cozy. Sister restaurant to Konban, I was super excited to try Konya. We made a reservation for Saturday during lunch and thankfully they had plenty of reservations available. The interior is extremely cute. It has a warm, cozy feel with soft lighting, natural wood tones, and a lot of little decorative details that make the space feel thoughtfully put together. I really loved the ambience. We ordered a few dishes since the portions were on the smaller side: the corn ribs, pork loin katsu, chicken sandwich, galbi mandu and kampachi crudo. The kampachi crudo was slightly fishy, although still enjoyable overall. I wasn't too impressed with the corn ribs, I wish they were juicier and sweeter and was a bit disappointed that they weren't considering the price point. The chicken sandwich was probably my least favorite. It wasn't seasoned as well as I would have liked, I found it a little overwhelming. Would not recommend. The pork loin katsu was good though I wish the cut had a higher fat ratio, but I really liked how delicate and flaky the crust was. The pork itself was tender and juicy, and the contrast between the crisp crust and the soft meat was really well done. The galbi mandu was actually really delicious i really liked the sauce it came with, the meat was flavorful and i loved the contrast of the fried crisp on top. Service was fine but not particularly notable. I was expecting more attentive service, but there was nothing wrong with what was provided. Overall, I thought ambience was really cute and while the food was decent, I did feel like something was missing. Definitely think I prefer the sister restaurant Konban. read more

This place was OK - it's a spot I'd never put forth but if someone wanted to go, I wouldn't say no I wouldn't say it's BAD but it's not great either Here's what we got Galbi Mandu: 4/5 this and the bibimbap was the best two items of the bunch - flavorful and came with a gyoza lattice Carrot bibimbap: 4.5/5 this was surprisingly really flavorful esp with the gochujang - the only thing is, the menu said it comes with different carrot varieties but I didn't see anything Jjajjang shrimp: 2/5 this was really disappointing, esp bc I was most excited about this dish but it was an oily mess with no jjajjang flavor Clam ravioli: 3/5 ordered this other ppl had mentioned it was great but it was mediocre at best. None of the clams were inside the pasta and it was seriously whatever Sushi set: 4/5 came with 8(?) different fishes and was good sushi but nothing to write home about The restaurant itself is pretty small but cute and service was fine. Holy moly this was AMAZING! Every bite was better than the one before. My favorite was the scallops which came with the most heavenly sauce. The kale sops it up for the most delicious bite. I am VERY full. A good place to share a lot of things. And frankly not a fortune for all that we ate. YUM! read more

I came here with a friend for dinner and even though we came on a rainy tuesday night, it was packed so I would recommend making reservations. We shared a few dishes but I'd highly recommend the corn ribs and tsukune. Everything else was good but not blow your mind. Never got to taste a single bite of food here, and that's basically the whole plot of this review. They warned us upfront, no alcohol served, but there's a store next block for BYOB, very helpful, very Brooklyn (love it). So off we went and came back with a $60 bottle of white Burgundy, feeling like absolute wine adults. That's when we were informed there were no clean wine glasses available. We asked, if more might surface soon. We were told, flatly, they won't be available, no hedging, no "let me go check," just an instant, committed "nope" from someone who clearly had zero interest in walking to the back to verify. "Um, I don't want to drink this wine out of a water glass like I'm in a back alley," I thought to myself, but apparently my face was in subtitle mode to my thoughts, because my date started softly, repeatedly suggesting we could just leave, there are so many other restaurants around, no pressure, definitely not a man quietly trying to defuse a bomb before it went off at the table. Then a second server stepped in, actually apologized, actually went to check, and actually turned the whole thing around, which is the only reason this isn't a one star review. Credit where it's due, she saved this from becoming a total write off. We ended up paying for the sparkling water we'd ordered while holding the table and called it a night. Two stars for the concept, the BYOB honesty, and the neighborhood charm, plus a nod to the second server for damage control. Zero stars for whoever decided "nope" was an acceptable answer to "do you have any wine glasses in this entire building." Would love to come back and actually taste the food one day, ideally with glassware that's seen soap. read more

Just opened sister restaurant to Konban, Konya has a varied menu across fried food, fresh fish, pasta and more. The space is a bit smaller and more intimate. Menchi Katsu was delicious. It was nice and crispy but sat on a bed of sauce that really blended well, adding a touch of spicier and a light saltiness from the caviar. The kanpachi crudo was well made. Light flavors balanced the fish beautifully. Gambas were also quite delicious and a good twist on the classic dish. Adds almost a nice extra savory touch to the classic garlic and oil flavors. The kalgooksoo was the worst, I'd pass on this dish. It's not any better than what you can get at many Korean restaurants in the city and the light touch of caviar on top didn't change that. It's been a while since I've been truly impressed by a restaurant but every single dish I've tried at Konya was stellar! My friends and I made reservations at konya for a Saturday evening and I'm glad we did because they were quite busy and I saw them turn away a couple of parties when we arrived. We were a table of 4 so we were able to sample quite a few items from the menu. We tried the following: Seasonal premium sashimi, Kampachi crudo, tuna uni taku sari, Corn rib, Pork Loin Katsu, Jjajang prawn gambas, Butter scallop, Galbi mandu, Gomtang ramyun, Tobiko manila clam ravioli, and the Ube tiramisu. Everything was presented beautifully and it was so hard to decide which dish we liked the most. Stand outs include the kampachi crudo (fresh and balanced flavors), corn rib (so fun to eat), butter scallop (the sauce was to die for), galbi mandu (crispy top and very flavorful mandu, paired with great sauce) and the tobiko manila clam ravioli (light and loved the subtle hint of chrysanthemum). Went to Konya last week for date night and had a good time. They didn't have their liquor license yet so we had tea, am excited to return and try the full bar. We had ordered the tuna uni taku sari, edamame hummus, pork loin katsu, yaki chicken and the kalgooksoo pasta. Some dishes were phenomenal- tuna uni taki sari and edamame but some were misses- don't think I will be ordering the pasta again. My partner is not a huge fan of dessert but he inhaled and loved the ube tiramisu. It still feels like they are figuring stuff out and we can't wait to be back to see them become a WBurg staple. read more

We got a bunch of dishes to share. The portions are small, and on the pricier side, but the quality and taste of everything is great! We ordered the tuna uni taku sari, pork tenderloin katsu, jjajang prawn gambas, gomtang ramyun, snow white dessert, jasmine mule mocktail, and hibiscus greyhound mocktail. Visited Konya last night and left thoroughly impressed. This Korean-Japanese fusion spot in Brooklyn is the real deal. The food was the star of the evening. We ordered plenty of dishes to share, and nearly everything landed. The tuna sandwich is a must-order -- served between rice cakes instead of bread, it's a clever and delicious twist. The shrimp and corn were both excellent, and the pork loin was probably the best I've had anywhere. Save room for the ube cream dessert; it alone is worth the trip. My favorite new eats in Williamsburg! From the same owners of Konban, Konya definitely is on par if not better. I love the pork loin katsu, was so pleasantly surprised that it tasted even better than the katsu I had in Hawaii! The spicy tuna sandwich also was so nostalgic. I mean, what can go wrong with spicy tuna, seaweed and rice? Well, I shouldn't speak so soon. Because the one dish that I was a bit disappointed in was the tuna uni taku. The fish was not that fresh and the rice was undercooked. However, the clam agnolitti definitely made up for it. It was my favorite dish of the night. Scallops were good too although a bit hefty price tag; the sauce that came with it was crack. We sat at the bar and shout out to Matt, the bartender who provided us great service all night. We got a white wine which paired well with the food and their clarified pandan cocktail was a great nightcap. My girls and I are already planning our next visit back! read more
