No notes just perfect holy moly my favorite had to be the yellowtail, my BF loved the corn. I would highly recommend everything we ordered interior is beautiful, service is attentive

Wow this was an amazing meal. The katsu was so flaky but the meat was so juicy at the same time. I loved the corn ribs and mazemen flavor. I will be back and try the other menu items, I loved this so much

My friends and I had a meal here. We ordered the Tenderloin katsu, Eggplant agebitashi, Mackerel sushi, Mazemen, and Konbon Corn ice cream. The service was great and the dishes were delicious. However, the portion sizes are small. I would say it is tapas style. We left feeling hungry. They have one restroom on the main level and another one in the basement. Unfortunately, the workers mopped the floor in the basement and it was very wet and slippery when I got down there. I felt like the workers who mopped the floor should've stopped customers from going downstairs. The workers helped me up as they saw me fall on my side. I was gliding on the floor. I informed the waiter when I returned to the table and he asked if I were okay. Im fortunate that I am fine, but it might not have been that way. Please do not mop when customers are around or ensure customers are not entering the premise when it is wet.

So yummy and really friendly service. We did a last minute walkin before going to see a show and they accommodated us for an hour seating (more than enough time for us). Everything was so delicious, especially the eggplant standout! I don't typically order eggplant but these were amazing, with a really nice sweet glazed charred flavor. Of course we got the corn ice cream which did not disappoint. Enjoyed our cozy circular booth in the large back dining room.

Best katsu I've ever had! I was never crazy about katsu since I don't like the thick breading, but this katsu is not like anything I've had, breading is light and airy, flaky like a croissant. However besides the katsu and corn ribs, everything else was underwhelming and some were even considered bad. Overall score still a 4, since they do make really good katsu, and if we had just ordered that and the corn ribs (those were the only ones out of the ones we tried that were good) -mackerel sushi tasted too fishy, and it doesn't work in a roll -toro uni Shari: too much rice, and fish not the freshest. For how much it costs (33), def NOT worth - branzino / mushroom: one of the worst branzino I've had (overcooked and bland), mushroom is what boosted the overall score otherwise this would be a 2/10 if it's just the branzino - karage: dipping sauce was bomb, but texture felt a bit off (almost stale?), was not crispy like all the other karage I've had. In one hand I'm glad it's "healthier", since breading was thin, but it's night and day compared to the breading of the pork loin -corn ribs: solid, very good flavoring

My favorite spot of 2025 by far. Everything we ordered was so delicious. Perfect from the texture to the flavor. When you're seated, they give you a small shot glass of a yuzu drink and some fresh tomatoes with cream cheese. This starter is so simple yet so refreshing. The yuzu paired so well with the tomato and cream cheese flavors, and it was the perfect way to start off our meal. We got the katsu, niku udon, and mazeman. The katsu is probably the best I've ever had in the city. The breading was so crisp, yet still light, and the meat was incredibly tender. It comes with a truffle salt that adds the perfect flavor. The mazeman was also incredible. The noodles were so fresh and chewy, and the meat was so flavorful. The niku udon was also delicious! Everything from the cozy interior to the amazing dishes makes Konban a standout for me. I will be back again and again!

Wow what a beautiful restaurant with great ambiance. The wait staff here were super diligent and accommodating . All the food came out at a good pace, presented nicely and tasted delicious. Konban means corn in Japanese and the corn ribs were my favorite def didn't disappoint, so flavorful. The beef udon was super flavorful and the noodles had perfect texture. The toro uni dish was also very good and fresh. Another amazing dish we had was the ebi (shrimp ) tempura. Probably one of the best tempura fried ebi I've had in NY super flavorful and crunchy. We will be back

Corn ribs: amazing flavor. The cheese, lime, and other seasonings really come together to make the corn super flavorful. Cutting the corn in rib shaped pieces also makes the texture quite unique and enjoyable. It's definitely a bit expensive for just corn at $15 but it's also just so good. 5/5 Lunch set: during lunch, you can upgrade a katsu to a lunch set to get rice, miso soup, and cabbage/salad for an extra $11. This was pretty average tasting, the miso soup and salad were nothing special and likely not worth $11. 3/5 Mazemen: I believe this was a sesame butter based noodles dish; it was quite delicious, the flavors mesh together well to create a cohesive dish that tastes great. I do wish they would have increased the amount of noodles by about 50% since then it would be easier to split the dish and enjoy more bites. 4.5/5 Pork katsus: the tenderloin katsu was definitely better than the pork loin katsu, it was less fatty and more juicy which meant more flavor. Both katsus were great though, the breading was perfect in bringing out the flavors in the meat. Pork loin: 4.5/5. Tenderloin: 5/5. Try to reserve this place a few days in advance, it can be booked out quite fast. This place is great to bring one or a few friends for a nice casual lunch or dinner, it can be loud but you have plenty of space to eat comfortably and chat. 4.8/5

This was my second time (forgot to leave a review the first time) here. I got the tenderloin & brunch set which came with rice, cabbage, and miso soup. The katsu is not as good as I remembered. It tasted more irony than I remember. The katsu sauce didn't go well with it either. The miso soup was bland. The shredded cabbage was the star of the dish, but for $28 I didn't think it was worth it. My friend got the same as me and didn't touch her katsu after one piece. I can't remember if I got the pork loin ($19) the first time but maybe that was the difference. The tenderloin I got was ($17). The corn rib was definitely the star of our meal. The corn cheese powder coated it nicely. We got the wedding peach for dessert. It had a super sweet aftertaste that lingers. It was alright, I wouldn't get it again.

My husband and I had dinner at Konban a couple of weeks ago - our last meal before heading to the train station to go home. It also happened to be my birthday! Konban was a perfect place for an early dinner. I'll tell you why. We had a matinee in the theater district and a train around 6pm, so we needed a spot for dinner that would be open early (Konban opens at 5pm M-Th, but is open all day F-Su), would be a pretty quick meal, and was still an exciting meal for a dinner on my birthday. Konban met all these needs. We had an early reservation (4:45pm on a Sunday) and were seated immediately. The restaurant is comfortable but also elegant and gorgeous. The restaurant is a little hidden from the street - you walk down a path and then go down some stairs into the basement of the building - but then you walk in and there are glass windows facing into a rock-ground courtyard. The design is classically Japanese but also modern. The service was great throughout, and the meal (probably especially given the hour of our reservation - but we certainly weren't the only people eating) was very quick (perfect for us since we were in a bit of a hurry, but it would also be a great place to have a slower relaxing meal if you have the time). We shared four dishes, which was a great amount of food. We shared: Ebi katsu (king tiger shrimp, tonkatsu sauce, wasabi ranch, and truffle salt); Sabazushi/mackerel sushi (grated ginger, wasabi, shiso, and sushi rice); Konban corn rib (corn cheese powder and shio kombu); and Niku udon (dashi, beef, black garlic oil). I think it says a lot that we liked all the dishes and didn't agree on our favorite. They also have a great list of drink offerings. I had a sake, and my husband had a cocktail. Everything was well-cooked and delicious. The menu is traditional and simple and yet fun and interesting. The service was very good. And it's casual yet cool. Definitely a place I'd be happy to return if I need a dinner in the neighborhood.

Was invited to come to Konban for family dinner to celebrate a couple after their city hall wedding. We were a party of 6. Konban was near the Google main office in Chelsea. So when you walk by there around 5pm you'll see that a bunch of people are getting off of work during rush hour. Konban is not immediately identifiable from the street level. It's tucked in a small alley-way entrance. When you enter, you're immediately greeted by the staff. The greeting culture is very similar to the Gyuyaki, and the welcome rings down the hall as you stroll past a hall with a hallow space created by adjacent buildings. We were seated in the back. The atmosphere was intimate. The plates were simple but elegant. The staff were very attentive. As each plate was presented, the server explained what it was and the best ways to enjoy it. Only you're told you have an hour max at the restaurant. I loved the mushroom rice the best. It looked so simple and plain, one would think that it wouldn't taste good. But it was quite the opposite - it was very flavorful, fragrant with truffle oil. The corn ice-cream was a very interesting twist, made with actual corn and you can taste the corn husks. One complaint I have with these very niche, simple, and "elegant" way of eating is that it never feels like enough for a group of people. But one thing I also very appreciate about Konban, is that it slows you down. It asks you to appreciate the small things in front of you.

The soul cocktail- if you like strong ginger it's for you. Otherwise it was a bit strong of a ginger taste and it overpowers the matcha. The Amakane cocktail is perfect if you like stronger drinks, tasted more of the whisky and i didn't taste any notes of the hojicha tea, but the honeycomb is a nice addition to the drink. We got the menchi and tenderloin katsu. The tenderloin is so soft and is best paired with the truffle salt. The menchi has jalapeño, but it was not spicy as expected, rather subtle. It's better paired with the sauces for an enhanced flavor. But on its own it's not as flavorful as the description entails. The portions were on the smaller size. The konban corn ribs were full of flavor, it tasted similar to honey barbecue chips and we couldn't stop eating it. We were excited to try the koban corn ice cream but it didn't reach our expectations. It tastes like icy corn milk covered in corn infused chocolate. It was hard to cut, had to wait a bit for the dessert to melt. The ice cream had corn bits inside. The truffle rice was amazing. The mushrooms sautéed with the rice gave it a good salty flavor, while the mushrooms on top was a bit nutty, it just blended in well creating this umami flavor Highly recommended

This is a super cute contemporary Japanese restaurant that's famous for their katsu. Yes, it does live up to the hype. What we ordered: - Konban Corn Rib: Yum. It came out looking very dressed and packed with spices. The corn "fell off the bone" :) It was soft and easy to eat. We compared this to the taste of Cheetos. Very cheesy and addicting - Yellowtail Crudo: Refreshing and plated beautifully. The oranges were a great touch - Tenderloin: AMAZING. So crunchy and airy - Corn Ice Cream: Adorable but it was difficult to eat because the ice cream was very firm Overall, we liked our dining experience. The restaurant's vibe feels very intentional.

Half of their menu is vegan-friendly. Spoiler alert: they will open a permanent location in June/July! *Chicken Karaage*** This chicken karaage was TO DIE FOR -- the caramelized sugar lemon on the side took it to a whole new level. The boneless chicken was so tender and juicy with a thin deep-fried batter. The meat was extremely refreshing after squeezing the lemon and dipping in honey mustard sauce. * Handrolls - Salmon Yuzu, Tuna, Yellowtail** Y'all need to order their handrolls! The sashimi piece was thick and long enough to cover the vinegar rice. It would be a pain to pick which handroll I like more. They layered up the flavors of each piece with house sauces, shiso leaf, fried leek, avocado etc. Wish they would add a handroll set in the future. *Pork Cutlet Curry The curry was a blend of shredded meat, mashed potatoes, tomatoes and grapes (yes grapes!). The pork loin cutlets were crispy and not heavily breaded. The meat was a bit dry, yet it was cut in thin slices so it didn't bother me much. I found the multigrain rice even more enjoyable than white rice with its crunchiness. *Matcha Crème Brûlée** WE LOVED THIS. Matcha flavor is strong. The caramelized top and creamy matcha custard complemented really well. Trust me, their crème brûlée is the best dessert to finish off your meal. *Vegan Matcha Cheesecake This cheesecake was homey and light. Matcha flavor was tasteable but not very strong. The raspberry compote added a nice touch to it. I liked the crunchy biscuit layer on the bottom. *Yuzu White Peach Sparkling *Virgin Green Tea Mojito Their Japanese-inspired mocktails were great and not too sweet (very rare for mocktails). Very refreshing to drink along with your meal.

Starting off with the Agedashi Tofu: Three pieces of tofu in tsuyu sauce. Light and crispy, with a savory but not too salty broth. It came with fried enoki mushrooms. Some grated radish would've been a nice touch. Chicken Karaage: This was my personal favorite. The chicken pieces were tender and juicy, while crispy on the outside. The portion came with a decent amount of chicken which was shareable between three. Shoyu Ramen: Not a standout dish, but seeing as it's not specifically a ramen restaurant, it was standard! Not amazing but not bad. Pork Cutlet Curry: As someone who loves Japanese curry, this hit the spot! Warm flavorful curry with crispy tonkatsu. However, I think it would taste better served with fluffy white rice! Also I think it was served with a side of grapes which was seemed odd unless it's a new food trend I'm unaware of. Overall, would definitely come back! They seem to do fried foods well, hopefully they can introduce tempura or a katsu sando would be amazing.

The restaurant was full at the counter however only a few tables in the back. Our server was often always standing next to our table, attentive and observant with our needs. I really liked that we had the option to get as many omakases as we wanted and/or order as many a la carte menu items. Many Japanese omakase restaurants do not allow this! And I never understood this either. We ordered 3 omakases to share amongst 2 people, and then a ton of a la carte dishes to share. Which were such a beautiful compliment to our omakase dishes. We got the "O" which was a 9 course meal with some cooked and raw options. From the a la carte menu, we ordered the chicken karaage, agedashi tofu, hamachi kama, clay pot rice with salmon and roe, sukiyaki noodles, 2 different rolls (tuna and salmon) and of course the uni taster (which were 3 different kinds of sushi from California and 2 from Hokkaido). The agedashi tofu was the worst amongst our group for a weird texture, definitely did not feel like tofu. The best dishes were the uni taster, chicken karraage, and hamachi kama all from the a la carte menu. And from the omakase, definitely the sushi platter (which were 10 pieces of sushi) and the soba noodles were so amazing! The sushi rice here were so delicious!
