Nonono is a pretty solid spot to grab some skewers and small plates to share with a group! It's pretty spacious inside with two floors so they can accommodate larger groups and the staff were all super nice. For food, I tried the eggplant, salmon salad, and a variety of skewers. I really recommend the eggplant as it has a super creamy texture with a ton of flavor and a bit of crunchiness from the nuts they put on top of it! The skewers were also really good with the eel being my favorite. The salmon salad portion size was a bit small and the dressing was a bit overpowering. They have a pretty large menu so i'll definitely stop by again in the future to try some other dishes!
Wow! This makes you feel like you've been transported straight to Tyoko! The place is roomy, homey, and beautiful. They have spots to sit that are traditional and quaint. The restrooms are beautiful and small! The food was all so well cooked and delicious. You can order small portions of food like 4 pieces of Shiitake ($4 for four) mushrooms or shishito peppers. They have little skewers of beef or chicken. There's even a salmon option. All of them were cooked perfectly. We got the ramen for my little girl- she loved it. We got fried rice, sushi, etc. it was all beautifully cooked and reasonably priced for NY. The service was fit for our conversation. We were catching up and enjoying the vibes.
The creamy udon was insanely good. I come back for this dish and this dish only. Everything else was good, but the udon is what made this place really worth it. It's smaller portions so I do think this place is more suitable for 2 people over bigger parties. Service was ok. Sat on quickly, the server got us what we needed but wasn't as attentive compared to other places I have been. They made sure we had everything so I still left happy. Ambiance was really cool. Two floors, clean, and spacious.
The skewers were delicious! The selection is amazing - we had chicken ovaries, chicken hearts, chicken livers, cow tongue and the usual! I enjoyed the vibe and the energy of this place! The servers are so nice, knowledgeable, and patient! The drinks were all right but I should have gotten the sake instead as the cocktails were not strong enough for me.
Took a chance and walked in for dinner. Sat at the counter, and it worked out great. Their yakitori was yummy and very they had a good selection. Ramen was tasty, broth was clean and flavorful. Nice vibes and staff were friendly. Sometimes you find gems when not planned.
Amazing meal! Loved the vibe and servers were so friendly and helpful. Prompt service and everything tasted so good. Got a bunch of skewers and left so full and happy. Highly recommend!

I only ordered takeout so this review is for the food only. nonono first caught my eye in 2023 for the funny looking name as I was browsing Google Maps for nearby restaurants. I ate a boatload of carbs (pizza :D) one day and desperately wanted some protein for dinner so I wound up ordering a bunch of yakitori. Everything sounded good, there's quite a selection of chicken parts, with more limited beef, fish, pork, and veggie options. The food was simple but cooked well and very flavorful, even for the "boring" cuts of chicken like tenderloin and breast. My favorite wound up being the breast with skin because even though the skin wasn't crispy, it balanced out the lean meat with a pleasantly rich fattiness. I really want to dine in next time I'm in NYC.

We were able to try a little bit of everything, and honestly everything was super fresh. I really enjoyed snacking on the edamame in between the food, as it's a classic. The dons were all super flavorful and the sashimi was fresh and succulent. I particularly enjoyed the Asari buttered with toast, as it was something I wasn't used to eating, but it was nice and soft and aromatic.
This restaurant was so delicious and such a vibe. This place was hidden in a corner and I'm so glad we checked it out. There was an upstairs eating area as well as seats on the first floor. We ordered a variety of dishes and the Karage and ramen were my favorite. They also had fun drink options to choose from. Service was great and food was delicious :)
On a sweltering summer day, we found ourselves at nonono on Madison and East 30th for lunch. The cool air conditioning and urban shiek welcomed us in, and we ordered and got our food very quickly. We started with a wasabi tuna roll, with a little spice to activate our taste buds, then we all shared a Yasai Udon - deep, umami flavors - a Shoyu Chintan experience set with brothy ramen and perfectly cooked knobs of chicken and strips of beef on sticks, and a Yakitori Teishoku, kabobs and assorted sides combined for a fun and varied meal. We downed the food almost as quickly as it arrived. This is a great little restaurant. If you're looking for authentic, traditional Japanese place, this is the one to try.
Two of us came here for an early dinner tonight and had a great experience. Everyone on staff was lovely, friendly, and attentive. Nice atmosphere, although I'm guessing that later in the evening it might get a bit loud. And most importantly, the food was really good! I had the cod cream udon and I absolutely loved it. My companion had small plates: eggplant dengaku, a tofu skewer, and an eggplant skewer. They were delicious as well. The prices seemed reasonable for the excellent quality of the food. Highly recommend.
The service here is great and the workers are friendly. This place is modern, clean and has a decent amount of seating. There's an upstairs and downstairs floor. I recommend making reservations. The tori tantan ramen was flavorful and had a strong nutty flavor. The skewers were delicious, especially the short rib. The cod roe cream udon was really saucy and enjoyable. The Suishingen tasted light and wasn't too sweet. Definitely would come back here.

Had a really enjoyable meal at NONONO! It's a great spot for Japanese food with a nice variety of sushi, ramen and small plates, so it's perfect for ordering a few different things and sharing. We started with the Mix Tartare, where the combination of tuna, salmon and yellowtail was fresh and flavorful, and the crispy wonton chips added the perfect crunch. The Truffle Kani Roll was a favorite -- creamy and flavorful with avocado, plenty of crab on top, and a subtle truffle flavor. It was a little different from the sushi rolls we usually order and definitely worth trying. We also had the shrimp katsu, which was perfectly crispy on the outside with big, juicy pieces of shrimp inside. The creamy dipping sauce paired really well with it. For ramen, we tried the Shoyu Ramen, which was warm and comforting with a flavorful broth, tender chashu, bamboo shoots, scallions and a soft-boiled egg. It was a nice addition to all the smaller dishes we shared. Overall, everything tasted fresh, was beautifully presented, and we really enjoyed being able to try a variety of dishes. A great Japanese spot in NYC that I'd happily come back to! read more
nonono served up some solid izakaya food including a wide variety of yakitori and other fun bites! My favorite dish of the meal was their cod cream noodle. As a fan of all fish roe and especially mentaiko, the cream and fish roe balance was well done. Loved the addition of shiso leaves to add a bit of herbaciousness to cut the richness of the cream. The udon was nicely cooked al dente and remained chewy throughout. Yakitori options range from chicken, beef, and veggie options. The chicken meatball was flavorful. Although I wish the chicken thigh and beef tongue were a little more tender, I did like their seasoning. The enoki pork wrap came with a soy/ginger sauce which served as a nice appetizer. Their smooth chawanmushi featured additional ikura and seaweed which amplified the umaminess; however because of the steam/heat, kinda overcooked the ikura a little bit, so be sure to eat it quick! The tartare combined a bunch of different fresh fish with some tamago and tossed in a light soy sauce. I liked how the wasabi wasn't too strong or overpowering but still present enough to preserve the freshness of the fish. The corn ribs were good but nothing crazy or different from other places. The space is cute and cozy with lots of natural lighting. They have two floors, an area with bar seating, and upstairs with more tables/nook area for more privacy. Staff were polite. Food came out quick on a weekend. read more
Came here with a reservation for 4 on a saturday at 12:15 PM, but it was relatively empty so we probably didn't need one. It was cute interior with lots of natural lighting, and the waiters were quick to take our orders and bring us our food. We ordered several different skewers, a mushroom dish, an eggplant dish, cod cream udon, and the oyako roll. They unfortunately didn't have some of the skewers we wanted to try, but tried the eel, short rib, chicken knee cartilage, beef tongue, and chicken heart. My personal favorite skewer was the eel. The mushroom dish didn't really stand out to me, and I found the sauce a little too flavorful. But we all agreed our favorite small plate was the deep fried eggplant. The oyako roll was also pretty standard, but the cod cream udon was delicious. It was creamy without being too heavy, and had great flavors and a good amount of veggies and pork. read more

When I went here the first time I didn't like it too much but I gave it another chance and the second time around it was actually really good. The cod cream udon was a real standout to me personally, I haven't had a dish like that in a while. The Izakaya was good & better than the items I had last time, granted that was years ago. Honestly more of a 2.5 if I'm being frank so this is me being generous. It's usually a wait with no resy but that's fine. The last time we were here prob 6 months ago, food and service was p good. But this time...things went downhill. The cod roe pasta was bland and nothing outstanding. The skewers were fine but took forever to come out. In fact, our food came so slow that 2 different servers including our own assigned waitress asked if they could clear our table and one time she took away all our utensils and napkins before learning from us that we are stil missing 3 items! Crazy...I have no words but other than I kmow you're busy but please find a way to fix this service. Lastly we tried to order dessert. We asked for a regular hokkaido milk soft serve and within 5 min asked to change to matcha parfait (which uses hokkaido milk soft serve as a base). Server said too late. They make it v fast but lol the dessert took some time to come out so I suspect they def could've changed it. Would NOT be coming back in a while! The icecream was tasty though - best part of the meal! read more

I definitely think we ordered the wrong things, bc we unfortunately didnt like half the dishes. We ordered the cod roe cream udon, kani fried rice, tantan men, and short rib yakitori. I wouldnt order the fried rice or tantan men again. The rice tasted pretty standard and the tantan men was imo overly salty. Maybe we just have a lower salt tolerance, but me and my friends kept drinking water after eating the tantan men. The yakitori was delicious though. Meat was juicy and sweet I wish i ordered more! I'd come back here solely for the cod cream udon. It was so so umami and everything is paired so perfectly. Even after we finished, we couldnt help but finish the sauce. It was truly so delicious. Staff were quick to attend to our needs, and youll need a resy. The place is quite small but we still managed to do a walk in, but was seated on along the window/ bar area. Def wanna try some other dishes tho! read more
Wanted a quick pick me up after a meal, and we were seated right away. The restaurant is really cute, featuring two floors, and the restrooms have sliding doors. The food itself was really delicious. I enjoyed the yakitori. I ordered the chicken, heart, liver, and gizzards. Everything was cooked to perfection. The service was pretty good overall, I have no complaints. A solid place! Came here on a Friday evening with family for the very first time. We were seated upstairs towards the back - it was a nice and cosy spot. Ordered a bunch of yakitoris. The chicken ones were very good. The kids loved the DiY hand roll - it was tasty and also fun for them! They had matcha parfait on the menu for dessert. It came with their own home made matcha jellies which was very good. Glad I was able to check out this restaurant after all these years. read more

This was a somewhat casual Japanese restaurant, a stone's throw away from the chaos of Herald Square. We popped in for lunch. It's a two floor joint but the most scenic seating is on the bottom level. For mains, we ordered the Cod Cream Ramen and the Sashimi Teishoku. The Cod Cream Ramen is the dish that keeps me from giving this place five stars. It was texturally great with heavy cream galore but did not have the punch from similar versions of this I've had in the past. The Sashimi Teishoku was truly a five star dish. The fish quality was MUCH higher than expected. For dessert, our only choice was the Suishingen, a "rain drop pudding served with soy bean powder and brown sugar sauce." Sometimes less choice is better. The look was unique. It was firmer compared to something like jello and the brown sugar sauce and soy bean powder made for a familiar yet welcome Asian flavor. Service was appropriate to the casual nature of the restaurant. Would I come here again? if I was in neighborhood, absolutely. read more

YesYesYes Without a doubt, this place has some great quality food. No corners are cut to deliver these dishes. I ordered the chicken thigh and the chicken oyster yakitori. Don't bother with the thigh. The chicken oyster just tastes so much more moist. My kid ate two skewers on her own, so we had to order another dish. I also did not think the angus prime kalbi for $17 was worth it. I would have just gotten more chicken oyster. COD CREAM UDON $18 - this was very creamy, but not my favorite. Great for those who like creamy pastas. Sukiyaki Udon $24 - good umami flavor, especially with the runny egg, I would definitely order this again. Yasai Udon (VT) $16 - this one is more of a soup, more mild than the sukyaki udon, but still very flavorful and tasty. PUMPKIN TEMPURA $8 - fried very well I would definitely come back to try their other dishes. Probably would order less. I over-ordered and over-ate at this meal! read more

I made reservations to come here on a Saturday and I was not disappointed at all! Every single dish that I ordered was awesome - not one complaint at all! On top of it all, the service was excellent, we were tended to and always had our water cups refilled without needing to ask. This is a fairly large restaurant and so it can be a little bit loud depending on the crowd! Angus Prime Kalbi - the flavors are so good, so delicious, and tender - I wish we ordered more of these! Ji-do-ri Kara Age - perfectly crispy fried chicken bites. Wagyu Diced Steak - this was the best beef dish we had here. Shrimp Katsu - crispy and flakey and perfect shrimp flavor. Oyako Roll - this was such a good and refreshing roll. Kani Fried Rice - who doesn't love a fried rice and with snow crab? Sold. This was a nice rice dish to include in our meal. Matcha Parfait - a great dessert to round out the meal. I'll say that though that the matcha flavor kind of lacks in this. It's more so of a vanilla based ice cream with some matcha chocolate? (hardened matcha) that is drizzled on top of the ice cream. Still though, it was delicious! read more

Service was very good when we were there for dinner, but we made a reservation for 6:30 and were not told there's a time limit at any time, until when we tried to order a second round of drinks and food. It was then we were told there's another reservation for our table in 40 minutes so we would have to finish and pack and go within that time frame. This izakaya spot in Midtown offers a variety of Japanese dishes, from noodle dishes to sushi to skewers. They have two levels here, so there's plenty of seating, but try to grab a reservation before going if you can! Service here is pretty good. I got a couple of their cocktails, skewers, sashimi set, karaage, and ramen. Everything was delicious. The sashimi was so fresh and the cuts were very thick. The skewers were packed full of flavor and good portions. The karaage was also good portions and both crispy but juicy. And, the ramen was rich and had generous cuts of meat (you can also choose between chicken and pork!). Overall, a good izakaya spot and I would definitely come back. read more
With a plethora of options to choose from, the theme of the meal for us was yakitori for the night and a little something something. Upon entry, we were seated upstairs and here's what we ordered: - Edamame (5/5) - simple done right - Tamago with Bacon on a stick - egg cooked to perfection - Chicken Sausage Yakitori - supremely flavorful - Angus Prime Kalbi - good - Pork Ribs - really good - Creamy Cod Udon - great The service was prompt but we weren't rished, and the meal was great. In Korean town! Honestly, I don't remember ever being called that back in the days for me kinda was part of the fashion district. Anyway, we planned on going to a restaurant just on that block but while waiting "online" & our turn to get in, we couldn't for it was 3 of us yes that's right! We walked in around dinner on a Wednesday night with no reservation and were seated quickly. The menu is extensive but not overwhelming and we ordered quite a few small plates to share between the two of us. Some memorable highlights included: Kani fried rice - Super buttery and had a good amount of crab Shoyu ramen - I was really excited to try this and it did not disappoint! Definitely one of my favorite dishes that we ordered. The broth had a rich caramel color and was deeply savory/umami. The noodles were perfectly cooked as well. Yaki corn - This was tasty and fun to eat. Had a nice char to it as well Tsukune - This was one of my favorite yakitori item that we ordered. So tender and flavorful Our waiter was so chill and was so welcoming. I can't wait to come back to try the rest of the menu. read more
Nonono used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Unfortunately last time we went, we got unlucky enough to visit on the first day of their new menu. This new menu was much smaller than their previous one, and removed many of the more unique skewers we used to love. Dishes like the scallop uni, eel, gizzard skewers, heart , tail, cartilage , and many more they previously had were all removed. It felt like they went with a safer menu that took away from what made this place special. I also used to really look forward to desserts after eating here, but they removed the more unique Kuro Goma and sushigen , and replaced them with soft serve options. The one positive is that there were more udon options than before, and the udon we had was still good. But aside from this, this new change felt like a huge let down for everyone in our group from what we experienced previously . read more

A large group of us came here for dinner. We were seated downstairs and there are hooks on the wall to hang up our jackets. The area was a little cold but upstairs was a lot warmer. The bathrooms are also upstairs. There is a lot of seating. Decor was also good! The creamy udon was a bit too creamy/cheesy for my liking. The pumpkin tempera app and eggplant was really good. read more

They accept walk-ins. Probably make a reservation if you don't want to wait though, especially during busy hours.

I don't think there are gluten free options as far as I know. To confirm you'll have to call the restaurant.

There was not a separate GF menu when I went but there were many, many GF options. Careful with the sauces but not a hard issue if you've been around the block before and/or have a knowledgeable server.

It's a casual joint. If you want to dress up you won't stick out per say. I saw a table of women dressed up for GNO and a table clearly on a date. It's not like dressing up and going to a dive bar. You'll be fine however you dress. Hope that helps.
