Fruit roll cake - delicious like a light pound cake
    Ginny C.

There are a ton of ramen reviews so this review is for the dessert. I ordered the fruit roll cake and omg it was the best roll cake I've ever had! It's the roll cake I've always wanted but never had .. until now! The cake is more of a light pound cake texture versus spongey which is what I like. It also comes with a strawberry compote which was a nice touch. Service here is also amazing!! Smaller store than the other location but it was such a nice cozy atmosphere. Would recommend :)

Great udon spot. Udon comes out piping hot and fresh. I got the seasonal mushroom. One of the mushrooms had strange skin texture that I didn't like at all. The service was very friendly. Would definitely recommend making a reservation even on a week day.

Hands Down the Best Udon in the U.S.! I've had my fair share of udon across the country but I can confidently say that Raku is in a league of its own. It is arguably the best udon spot in the United States. Broth & Noodles: There is absolutely nothing to complain about here. The broth is deep and flavorful and the texture of the noodles is perfect--great "chew" and consistency. It's clear they take their craft seriously. The Poached Egg: I loved that they serve the poached egg (onsen tamago) on the side. It gives you the flexibility to enjoy the pure broth first before adding that creamy richness to the meal. The One Regret: The only downside to my visit was that the Saba Sushi was already SOLD OUT. I've heard amazing things about it, so it was a bit disappointing to miss out this time.

First time trying Raku. This spot was previously all over my feed. So I'm glad I finally got to try it. Get a resy before going. It's quite busy and the staff are constantly moving. We got really lucky. they had one table available, but it was reserved for a later time slot. If we wanted to be seated, we had to finish our food before the next resy, which we were fine with. We were glad to be seated right away. Known for their udon, so ofc we got some. We ordered: Appetizer: Ankimo (Monkfish Liver) (it's def an acquired taste) Gyoza (Pork) (you can never go wrong with gyozas) Yaki Nasu (deep fried eggplant, spicy miso pork, quail egg) (very different from what I imagined it to be.) Entree: Yasai Kakiage Udon (Vegetable Tempura Hot Udon) Buta Shabu (pork belly, cucumber, shiro goma, daikon sprout) Since this spot is known for their udon. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the broth was very flavorful. But don't forget to try out their appetizers too! They have a lot of great appetizers. Heard they had a lot of great desserts. Unfortunately, we were quite stuffed that day and couldn't squeeze it in.

Raku East Village was excellent! The starters were great; the chicken tatsuta-age was especially tasty and came with a tangy sauce. Pork gyoza were full of flavor and a nice texture that was somewhere between chewy and crispy. The udon was so impressive, I would have been happy just drinking the broth. The udon noodles were perfectly prepared, and the tempura that came with my dish added a nice element to the meal. Prices were super reasonable for fantastic food, definitely a great spot to check out!

Came here for dinner on a rainy weeknight and it was quite busy. We were only able to get a seat for two by the high table as the inner sit down tables were full. The service and waiter were super attentive and always checked on us for questions and concerns about our seating and menu items. We ordered the Kamonan (Duck) udon and the Kani Ankake (snow crab in thick egg soup). Both were quite delicious. The egg soup was really tasty, it reminded me of an egg drop soup but the flavor and umami were top notch. Along with our udons, we also got the karage fried chicken and tofu.

Comfort Japanese food. We stopped by for a quick bite while waiting for another dinner reservation actually (and to get out of the rain). But this place hit the spot! We were quite content, despite it being a quick stop. Service was superb. The handmade udon noodles were a bit hit!

My friend said this is her favorite place to eat in NYC, so I had to give it a try while visiting! The restaurant doesn't have many seats, so my friend made reservations in advance. I ordered the sansai bukkake, which came with vegetables, fried mushrooms, nameko mushrooms, daikon, umeboshi, and a poached egg. I loved all the different textures in this dish - crunchy, slimy, and the firm noodles. I'm a huge mushroom fan, so I loved the nameko mushrooms. Service was quick and friendly. I would definitely recommend coming here if you're craving ramen!

The food was great, but the appetizers were the star of the show. The fried chicken and tofu were complex and umami. Docking one star because we were seated by the door on stools, and it was very tight. There was definitely little room for our coats or bags. The real issue was the heating blasting in our faces. Not sure now the other tables felt, but it seems like they had the heat pointed in one area only and it was the seats near the door. It made the eating experience extremely uncomfortably!

After hearing great things about this place, I decided to deal with the wait time and the crowd to try this place. Tried the niku hot udon, the ebiten hot udon and had a soba pudding for dessert. I found everything to be overpriced for what was offered. Although the noodle texture was very bouncy and chewy, the dish itself it was not worth the price paid. Service was attentive and as for the ambiance, I cannot say anything as we sat in the outdoor dining area.

Came to Raku with a friend and we both went for the Niku Udon Spicy ($29 total with the $1 spicy option). The bowl comes loaded with beef short ribs, honeycomb tripe, and tendo -- a rich, hearty mix that makes it feel like more than just a noodle dish. The udon itself was perfectly chewy, and the broth had a deep, savory flavor with the spicy kick we were looking for. The beef short ribs were tender, the tripe added great texture, and the portion was generous enough to be filling without overdoing it. At $29 a bowl it's definitely on the pricier side, but the quality of the ingredients and the comfort of the dish make it worth it. Cozy, flavorful, and exactly the kind of spot you want on a cool NYC evening.

I've heard amazing things about the udon here from multiple friends, and while the udon was good I felt like it didn't quite meet my expectations. I tried the agedashi tofu for my appetizer and I loved how soft it was. The other parts that I didn't like as much were the gingeriness, the slight fishiness of the soy sauce, and how the batter was kind of coarse. Not my favorite agedashi tofu but I can tell this was crafted really well in house. 3.65 stars. For my udon, I got the yasai kakiage with the vegetarian broth. I really enjoyed how lightly battered and crisp the tempura was and the way it brought out the natural flavors of the vegetables. The udon broth had a slight salt and sweetness and had a really clean and clear flavor palette, which is great when you don't want something heavy. However, the vegetarian broth was a $2 substitute which I think is absurd. 3.9 stars. Food was good but it was really hot the day I came here and hot udon wasn't the best idea, so I wish I tried the cold udon. I'd be willing to come back to try it.

    Erica K.

One of my favorite (only udon spot actually) in the city that I can get behind! We ordered: Yasai Kakiage Curry Beef Udon All locations for the most part are tight and bumper to bumper, however the food and quality itself speak volumes and are worthwhile the wait. Although, the times I've arrived to Raku I haven't had to wait that long, so anything too long ~1 hour, I would not be able to justify; recommend booking ahead via Resy. Whether it's a cold, icy winter or humid summer, Raku is my reliable source for a nice, cozy meal!

    Can I make reservations?

    I don't think so, it's waitlist only.

Are they still forcing vax info?

    No they aren't

    Gluten free noodles available?

Do they use whole wheat udon noodles?

I don't believe so. Looks like they use the same udon noodles for all the dishes.

Is the udon bought or made by themselves?

    Made in house!

Is it difficult to park a car around there?

Would not suggest driving if coming from the city anyways since parking can be expensive. But not impossible

    Any heat for outdoor dining?

I believe they have the space heaters! They've created more covering compared to last time- so much cuter and sturdier

    Is there a vegetarian udon?

The dipping udon is just the noodles dipped with sauce - they give you an egg but you don't have to put it in! Zaru, Hiyashi, Oroshi, yamakake And kamaage can all be prepared vegetarian by request.

Hi, what broth is used? Is there broth available that is not pork or beef?

They use a dashi broth base for most. They currently have plenty of non pork/beef, vegan and vegetarian options for appetizers and udon.

Do they use different udon noodles for the tantan vs the niku?

    Just one type of udon

Even before the food arrives, the restaurant leaves a strong impression with its stunning Japanese-inspired interior. The space is beautifully designed, blending warmth and elegance in a way that feels both inviting and refined. From the soft lighting to the natural wood accents and thoughtfully arranged decor, everything about the atmosphere feels intentional. It captures the intimate charm of a traditional izakaya while still feeling modern and stylish, making it a wonderful setting for anything from a casual dinner to a more special night out. The food more than lived up to the beauty of the space. One of the first highlights was the salmon onigiri, a dish that proved how satisfying simplicity can be when it is done well. The rice was soft, fresh, and perfectly formed, holding together without feeling too compact, while the salmon added a savory richness that made each bite feel comforting and flavorful. It was balanced, delicate, and deeply satisfying in a way that made it memorable despite its simplicity. The seared salmon salad was another standout. The salmon itself was beautifully prepared, with a lightly seared exterior that gave it a subtle crispness, while the inside remained tender, buttery, and smooth. That contrast in texture made the dish especially enjoyable. Paired with the freshness of the salad, it felt light and refreshing, yet still substantial enough to feel like more than just a side dish. It was a dish that managed to feel both clean and indulgent at the same time. The grilled squid was particularly impressive and easily one of the most memorable items of the meal. Squid can often be difficult to get right, as it can become rubbery or overly chewy if even slightly overcooked, but that was absolutely not the case here. The texture was spectacular--tender, delicate, and pleasantly springy without any toughness. Each bite had a light smokiness from the grill that added depth, while the squid itself retained its natural sweetness. It was expertly prepared and showcased a level of precision that really stood out. For the main courses, both the Tonkatsu Ramen and the Black Pepper Ramen delivered distinct experiences, each with its own appeal. The Tonkatsu Ramen was deeply comforting and satisfying, with a broth that had a rich, velvety texture and a full-bodied depth that coated the palate beautifully. It felt smooth, hearty, and luxurious without being too heavy. The noodles had an ideal texture as well--firm enough to provide a satisfying bite, yet soft enough to soak up the broth and integrate perfectly into the dish. Altogether, it was a bowl that felt warming, balanced, and incredibly comforting. The Black Pepper Ramen, on the other hand, brought a bolder and more assertive flavor profile. The broth had a smooth, glossy texture, and the noodles again had a pleasing chew that gave the dish structure and substance. The black pepper added an unmistakable warmth and aromatic intensity that made the ramen stand out immediately. It was flavorful and memorable, though the pepper was slightly overwhelming at times. A bit less black pepper would have allowed the other flavors in the broth to come through more clearly and created a more balanced bowl. Even so, the ramen was still enjoyable, especially for those who appreciate strong, pepper-forward flavors. Overall, Izakaya Fuku is a restaurant that succeeds on every level. The stunning Japanese interior creates an atmosphere that feels both immersive and elegant, while the food reflects a real attention to detail in both flavor and texture. From the comforting salmon onigiri, to the fresh and beautifully prepared seared salmon salad, to the expertly grilled squid with its exceptional texture, and finally the rich and satisfying ramen dishes, every part of the meal felt carefully executed. It is a place that offers not just excellent food, but a complete dining experience, and it is well worth visiting for anyone looking for standout Japanese cuisine in New York.

First - Tonkotsu (pork) ramen was perfectly balanced. The broth was deeply flavorful but not heavy, almost like an 80/20 hybrid of tonkotsu and shoyu (soy sauce) ramen. Noodles were springy and not overcooked, and the roasted pork had a slightly smoky flavor and was flavorful itself, not just protein and texture like many other ramen joints. We also had the edamame appetizer - super flavorful and addictive, and we wound up ordering a second one (for our party of four) after devouring the first one. Now here's why it's my favorite ramen restaurant- my favorite dessert is banana pudding, and Tonchin's signature Tokyo banana dessert is an elevated banana pudding that makes magnolia bakery look like amateur hour. Plenty of fresh banana and a carmelized banana on the side with a balanced pudding that's not too heavy - this is peak banana pudding. So it has my favorite ramen and favorite dessert. But can it do better? Yes. It can also have...my second favorite dessert! Tonchin has excellent shave ice desserts that reminded me of Korean bingsu. We had the strawberry and it was fresh, bright and had lots of strawberry flavor. Delightful. Service was excellent and the ambiance of the space is dark and elevated. Couldn't decipher distinctly from other top notch ramen so it wasn't knock your socks off. From now on I'll order the base dish when I go places so I can judge better. The gyoza was cooked very nicely, came sizzling and the bun with meat was a little ugly, it looked boiled and unappetizing. The taste was just okay. The topping on it was notable. The waitress didn't help us at all when ordering. We weren't bowled over with the food, although it was noted the meat in the ramen was high level. It hit the spot but I will try other places in the search for our "return forever" ramen place.

I'd have to say...the tonkatsu was quite good....not quite as sublime as my favorite tonkatsu place in Tokyo...but still, very, very good. Their location is a little hidden, it's on the second floor above Soba Noodle Azuma on 55th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues, closer to 8th. You have to go up a stairwell on the side. Getting to the food, their focus is on meat, seafood and vegetable skewers though they also have a variety of appetizers, rice bowls and noodles, and dessert. The meats and veggies are grilled over charcoal while basted with "tare", a house-made sauce that adds a level of umami to the caramelized grill flavors. Recently I got a handful of skewers for takeout, including: - Ebi (shrimp) $8 x 2: the shrimp were cooked just right, tender and juicy, yum! - Hotate Eringi (scallop and oyster mushrooms) $8 x 2: the textures of the oyster mushrooms and scallop pieces complemented each other, and were kinda similar. Another tasty offering. - Negi pon (pork belly with scallions) $7: I'm not a huge fan of pork belly in general, though they grilled it well here and chopped scallions added a little spicy tickle. While not the cheapest for skewers that you can find, (and inflation hasn't helped,) their flavors are authentic and their quality and consistency is key here. I'm glad it's still here since there seems to be fewer and fewer good yakitori spots in Manhattan these days. They used to have another location in the city though I believe this closed pre-pandemic, however from their website they now have another location in Boston. This was also the sister restaurant to Ramen Totto which had four locations at one point though all have shuttered as well. Hope this location stays around for a long time!

The service was excellent, and the owner was incredibly friendly, taking the time to give us a detailed introduction to the story and origins of French Ramen. We ordered the Special Combo, and the moment it arrived, my eyes lit up. The plating was a beautiful blend of French and Japanese influences--elegant, refined, and perfectly aligned with my taste. Seeing such thoughtfully presented dishes instantly elevated the entire dining experience. It truly lives up to the name "French Ramen." The Lobster Ramen had an incredibly rich, naturally sweet, and flavorful broth. The noodles were perfectly springy with a satisfying texture (wide noodles, similar to fettuccine). The Crab Ramen with Truffle featured a deeply aromatic broth with a pronounced truffle flavor, paired with classic Japanese-style ramen noodles that were equally enjoyable. The Spicy Salmon Ramen also came with wide noodles (similar to fettuccine), which I personally loved since I prefer a chewier texture. The broth was more on the mild side compared to the other dishes, but still enjoyable. Across all dishes, the seafood was fresh, beautifully presented, and of high quality. The attention to detail in both presentation and flavor made the experience feel refined and special--it was truly a joy to dine here. We were also treated to a glass of red wine by the owner, which added an extra touch of warmth and hospitality and perfectly complemented the "French" aspect of the experience. The fried chicken wings were crispy, hot, and delicious. The fried salmon rice was also excellent--the fish was perfectly crispy, and the rice was flavorful and well-seasoned. For dessert, we were served assorted mochi ice cream along with a rich terrine de chocolat. From start to finish, the meal was both visually stunning and delicious. It was a truly delightful dining experience. My entire family gives it 5 stars! I will definitely be returning to Salmon Noodle 3.0 and highly recommend it. If you love French cuisine, this is a must-try. It's also perfect for a romantic date night. French Ramen offers a unique and refreshing twist that's absolutely worth experiencing. P.S. The owner mentioned they are planning to introduce a French-style teppanyaki menu. I'm not sure whether it will be traditional or with a French twist, but my family and I are very excited and look forward to making a reservation to try it.

Potato beef salad - felt too heavy and thick, not impressed with the flavor…read more Truffle crab ramen with soft shell crab - tasted interesting in the beginning, but half way through it started to taste boring and too heavy/salty. The sides didn't really add much to it. The sauce on the bowl seemed pointless and just gets in the way. Noodles texture was perfect. Modern comfortable interior. Service was great.
