As an LA transplant, this place reminds me of Marugame. They both focus on udon and service in a semi self-serve cafeteria line format. However Sanuki's udon was just alright; great for a quick meal but nothing to write home about. I got the beef udon to try something more classic. The udon was generally chewy, but I wish the soup was more seasoned. I also wish the beef slices were more marinated and hoped for it to be thinner. I do appreciate how they have unlimited self-serve tempura crunch topping and green onions! For the other side dishes, the tempura was solid as the shrimp was pretty juicy. The eggplant and enoki mushroom were also pretty standard. Dipping sauces and water/oolong tea are all self-serve. Prices were very reasonable for NYC. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was a good amount of tables and staff were polite.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] While in the same format as Marugame, the udon components could not compare. Overall still pretty decent for a casual lunch spot!

Cute and convenient especially if you go to NYU. Sort of a self serve bar for the appetizers and you can pick which udon you want. My meal came up to ~$15.

The staff was really friendly and they gave good beef portions for the beef udon, but I felt like the broth was bland and the chicken katsu was lukewarm and also soggy. I was a bit disappointed because I had this place saved on my list for so long and I came hungry too. The katsu sauce was very barbecue forward like A1 steak sauce which caught me off guard and wasn't my favorite. I gave them an extra star because they had complimentary onions, ginger, radish puree, and oolong tea. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself has a lot of seating and the natural lighting from the windows was a nice touch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I don't think I'll be coming back here, but I'm still glad I tried it out.

Very tasty fast-casual Japanese curry. The tempura shrimp were looking crispier than the katsu so I went shrimp and it was a solid choice. Sanuki Udon is a fine option if you're looking for a quick lunch around NYU.

Closer to 4.5 than 4 stars. What a customizable and relatively affordable udon option! Heard about this place online and decided to check it out when I was in the area. First you pick your udon dish, then can customize it as much as you want, especially with tempura sides. There's an area with drinks and for you to customize any sauces you want too. The udon noodles were a standout to me - very chewy. The broth and meat I found to be just ok - but for the price point really not so bad. I liked the tempura shrimp, veggies, and mochi. The imitation crab was just ok. Free oolong tea here as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall such a fun option in the area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It won't be the best quality food you've ever had, but this place understands that and isn't trying to be either,

I came when they first opened, and this time I was shocked to see some bowls, like pork cutlet curry and beef udon, are now actually $1 cheaper...like who does that nowadays?! Plus, they offer free unlimited oolong tea! Huge bang for your buck and perfect for students. What really surprised me was they actually make udon with Japanese-imported wheat flour! *Beef Udon $14.50 A hot bowl of soup udon hit so hard on a chilly, rainy day. The rich and savory broth felt like a warm hug. The beef slices were tender and not overly fatty, and the udon noodles were super springy and chewy which is clearly different from the cheap frozen one. *Pork Cutlet Curry Udon $15.95 If you're craving something more filling, the curry udon comes with slices of katsu pork cutlet. There was definitely more fried batter than actual pork, but it was still tasty and paired really well with the curry. *Tempura - Mochi $2.25, Zucchini with Cheese $1.85, Japanese Yam $1.85, Eggplant $1.85 Most of their tempura ranges from $1.85 to $2.95 (with the soft-boiled egg on the higher end). The veggie ones were nothing special, but the mochi tempura was surprisingly good. I thought it'd be stale and hard after sitting on the counter for a while, but it was the opposite--the mochi inside was still super stretchy and soft, with a nice seaweed flavor from the crispy batter.

We had good simple meal udon here they make it fresh! Chewy and delish. I had tonkatsu broth and asked for spicy and it delivered! Good chashu pork and nori melted well into the soup, tempura were self served but freshly fried and crab meat one was reallly good, the japanese yam was oily for me. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Good egg and table self seats.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Take your own chopsticks and pack away station. I liked the sweet fried tofu! Big piece and you can add others toppings with your choice from menu.

Sanuki Udon gets a solid 4 stars from me. The udon noodles themselves were amazing: super fresh, chewy, and clearly handmade. The portions were also really filling and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the atmosphere felt very authentic and cozy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The only reason it's not a full 5 stars for me is because some of the flavors were slightly bland and could've used a bit more seasoning or richness. Overall though, still a really enjoyable spot and definitely worth trying if you love fresh udon!

Ya know, I just really had a hankering for some tempura so I came by and picked up some kakiage, eggplant tempura, and kaarage to munch on. Super quick and easy to satiate my craving hehe

My partner was craving this when reminiscing on time spent in Japan, so we came to see how it compared. I love the cafeteria style, and I love getting to pick and choose my tempura sides. I got the curry udon, which was delicious, with shrimp and zucchini tempura. You can watch in a room to the side how they make their noodles in house, which is very cool. Each bowl is created for you, right in front of you, with homemade noodles! I had wished the lighting was a little softer to give it a home-ier feel (with comfort fried foods and soup, you get the vibe), but it is cafeteria style so I guess it makes sense why it isn't. I can imagine this is a common spot for NYU students, but I hope to go back often myself!

I love how it's a place of order, pay and sit anywhere type of establishment. My favorite is the beef udon noodle soup with shrimp tempera on the side. The batter is so light and crispy, I always get this side no matter what. They open at 11:30am and it gets crowded quick but also the turnaround for a seat is fast. The tables can be a bit too close together so getting to the seat by the window you gotta squeeze in without trying to hit someone's food next to you or you can sit at the high bar facing the window which I love. They have 2 unisex bathrooms available but you need a code to open it so ask the cashier. They have take out containers readily available for you to grab on your own if you don't finish your meal.

Got the curry and was very dissapointed. Curry was watered down af. Marugame would never. But i liked their tempura. The tempura mochi was interesting and delicious. The chew was yummy. The service is a quick grab a try and go down the line type of service. Very chill vibes and lots of seating. Mostly self serve experience after you get through the line and lots of NYU students as it borders the campus. Would recommend to try as we dont ha e Marugame in NYC and the experience and food is close/similar.

It's very much an average experience, the food is good and convenient at a affordable price point. There are many udon and rice options and the ability to customize your meal as there is a variety of tempura. Service is fast and you go through the line to order. There is a good amount of seating and is self serve. The pork udon is good, it comes with a large portion of noodles and the pork is like a thick pork belly that is tender.

The beef soup is clear and light and the noodles have a delightful texture, with a slight chew and good bounce. There's a good portion of braised beef as well. Tender but a bit fatty for my taste, but given the portion it's not going to kill you. Lamb burger ended up as overkill and will be consumed as leftovers but a quick sampling let me know that it's gamey and fatty with strong notes of cumin. Not a bad thing, but something to note for people that might not generally enjoy lamb or cumin. Black pepper beef rice bowl was solid too. Spice wise, you can calibrate accordingly but I'd recommended at least their regular spice level. Decent amount of tenderized but still chewy beef. Both dishes came with a salad of celery, carrot, cucumber, peanuts and seaweed strips in a light sauce. Couldn't quite figure out the sauce but it was lightly tart and refreshing. Space is clean and modern. Neutral wood, well lit. Service is friendly enough. If you dine in, you order at the kiosk and they'll deliver to your table.
