The last time I was in NYC I grabbed two omakase and one Everything don from Shinn East, so figured this time I might as well try their sister restaurant, Sanyuu West! They share a takeout menu and it's super easy to order--text what you want to the phone number on the website and pickup in ~20 minutes :). You pay on a handheld and they don't ask for tip for takeout. I love this process and truly wish more sushi restaurants in LA adopt the takeout box. The only one I know of is hefty but also $200 each lol, making Sanyuu's $69 omakase and $78 Everything don, not to mention the $30 giant salmon nigiri set, A STEAL! I enjoyed most of the pieces but I will say I don't like their amaebi or uni at all. I'm not sure what kind of uni is used here but it's the type with a very strong mineral flavor & aftertaste that I don't find enjoyable. We're spoiled by easy access to live spot prawns everywhere and fresh SB uni. Despite this, I wouldn't hesitate to come back if I lived in the city.
15 course omakase $87+tax= $95ish/person - This was last yr, so I don't remember the specifics, but some pieces like o-toro I def liked more than others. The charred fish was really good, love the smoky flavor. I don't remember disliking anything too much.
We were celebrating a birthday, did the Omakase, and made reservations before hand. Place was super cute and clean and the ambiance was amazing, it felt very personal with such a small group. Our chef was super attentive, he even noticed that I like to split my sushi in half so he started to cut my piece in half for me before serving it. He was super sweet. Tip: You even get a free sushi cake cake for your birthday to make sure you let them know on the reservation!
When my friend messaged me after work about going to an omakase place, I immediately started preparing myself for my wallet to cry. As I was ordering ramen to sustain myself for my inevitable future, she messaged me not to worry because this was a reasonably priced place. I thought she was joking because reasonably priced omakase has to either be an oxymoron or not high quality fish. Walking in the setting was like a traditional omakase. An intimate u shaped table where the sushi chef will place the food fresh off the board, but it still felt very cozy. Every dish put before me was uniquely flavored. However, the fresh, carefully prepared meat was a consistent factor. The service was warm and you can tell how much thought they put into both the dishes and your experience. If you want a great quality omakase for anything from a casual dinner to a date night without breaking the bank then this is the place to go.
Had 5pm reservations with my wife and it was an amazing experience! Our server Amy was super friendly and the chef was very funny. The food was so fresh and delicious! The sushi rice was the best we've ever tasted! It was a phenomenal experience and we will definitely be back soon. This is a must try!!! Also, their to go boxes are delicious! We took a box to go also!!!

You can find their takeout menu on their website and text the number listed to order. I ended up placing the order the night before for pickup the following evening and they were very accommodating. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. The omakase sets were $69 each and the salmon nigiri is $30. We liked the omakase sets but honestly the star of the show for us was the giant salmon nigiri which is unbeatable for the price. You get 8 huge nigiri with generous large pieces of salmon on each! I would come back over and over again for this. Pickup was easy and quick and the item was ready for me as promised. They also made sure to pack us adequate utensils and everything you need to enjoy the omakase at home including soy sauce. Definitely try this spot out if you're a sushi lover or love salmon!

Love Sanyuu! They recently raised the price to $87 pp but the quality is worth it. It's surprising but I start getting full around course 5 (out of 15). They only have a few small seatings per day with each about an hour. It's fine to get there a few minutes late and they'll just pace faster -- two chefs in the middle that can kind of serve the parties separately. Im gluten free which they accommodate, even providing GF soy sauce. Generally you can request to substitute certain fishes and they seem to have go-to backups. It's a very quiet and intimate setting so you can still have a convo without facing each other. Once went for a small celebration and at the end they gave us complimentary caviar hand rolls! Truly such kind people and tasty fish.
i got the salmon sushi set, which comes with 8 HUGE pieces of salmon nigiri. i'm blown away by how buttery soft the salmon pieces were, how well seasoned the sushi rice was, and (most importantly) how this whole set only costs $30. this was my first time ordering takeout from sanyuu west, but definitely not my last! note: you do have to order this ahead of time by texting the number listed on their website. i was able to place an order the night before & scheduled it for pick-up right when they opened at 5pm. very smooth process & you pay when you pick it up!
Came back after a few years and it still did not disappoint. The food was amazing. Every piece that was served was quality. The omakase experience was 15 courses. We didn't feel rushed and the service wasn't slow. You can also order from their take-out menu like the 9 piece salmon nigiri. Their Big Mac was amazing and felt like magic in my mouth. Overall a 10/10 experience and would come back to try their other specialty pieces.
I liked this place considering it's somewhat of a value omakase spot. For $87/15 pieces, it's pretty good. I think that it's among the top under $100 omakase in the city right now based on the quality of the fish and how many pieces you get. I thought their otoro and sea bream were quite good. I'd go back again!
Food was so amazing and a good omakase choice if you want something a bit cheaper but still want an experience. Service was awesome and always love watching the chefs prepare the sushi in front of you. Great vibes all around, would love to try their big salmon nigiri's to go!

After trying a dozen of sushi/omakase places in New York I can definitively the best I've had. The omakase at Sanyuu West is honestly unbeatable. Every single fish is very high quality I find many places like the skimp out on the less popular fish but not Sanyuu West. I think the omakase is also at a very good price for the quality and amount you get though I know it is more expensive than maybe the average omakase spot right now. I also find that other spots usually underdeliver. I wish I could save more detail but honestly I have nothing more to say other than the fact that Sanyuu Weat amazing. The restaurant itself is also more spacious than I expected. Besides the main bar there are two sitting areas near the window as well as seats lined up to the bathroom to make yourself comfortable two things that I think are a rare find now in many places. A lot of thought is put into this restaurant layout and I think you can tell. The service was also great I found myself never lacking in water or waiting too long for my next piece. In fact, I had started to apologize about drinking so much water because I felt like the hostess was constantly at my side refilling my cup and she just turned to me and said, "don't apologize. Drinking water is very important." So true!!!! I'm very picky abt my recommendations to friends, I'll review any place I go to and give my thoughts but a real recommendation? I only have around a dozen or so. And Sanyuu West is definitely now part of that dozen. read more

price - $87 per person pre tax food - 5/5 service - 5/5 ambiance - 5/5 I got the chance to try out Sanyuu West for my birthday and I had such an amazing time! from the moment I stepped into the restaurant, the waiters were super sweet and attentive to my friend and I. the courses kept coming out and each piece was super tender and bursting with flavor! my favorite was definitely the uni, toro, and wagyu on milk bread course! I love how the flavors mix so well together, I felt like I was in heaven! the service was amazing, like the never left my water cup empty!!! (props to them) the ambiance inside was also super calm and vibey. overall, I had such an amazing time and I would love to go again soon read more
Came for takeout and got the Salmon Set which includes 8 huuuuge salmon nigiri for $30. You'll definitely want to share this one. The slices aren't thin, delicate, and melt-in-your-mouth as one usually gets in a sit down; they are extra thick, and I had to really bite down on some of the pieces. The rice was nicely seasoned and was cooked well + portions are also big to match those thiccccc salmon slices. To be honest, I was getting a little nauseated after 5 pieces, haha~ They were definitely delicious but I'd probably just eat 3 or 4 pieces and share with a friend! It was easy to text the number on the website and coordinate a pickup time, and the staff was friendly when I arrived. The restaurant is a little hard to find as the windows are blinded and the sign is a piece of paper on the door. read more

Cozy omakase place were you sit at the bar, the experience was pretty fast pace but for the price of what you get it was pretty worth it : $78 for 15 pieces. The chefs were super nice and explained each piece well, and kinda chatted with us as well but their main focus was definitely pushing out the pieces. The service was super attentive as we had pretty quick refills on water/tea and were asked about any allergens, etc. Selection wise had a good amount of variety, and some pieces had some wow to it like adding chili crispy to a tuna nigiri! Came here because we wanted to try their huge salmon nigiri and we weren't disappointed! It was about $35 for the whole set. We accidentally came in during their lunch break believe it right before opening (5pm) but they still let us order for takeout! Very kind staff! As for the food, the rice was very yummy and the salmon was huge and supple. It was simple but very good and this set was enough for my bf and I to feel pretty satisfied. read more

Sanyuu West has been on my list of NYC restaurants to try for over a year! I first saw their viral, extravagant omakase take out boxes all over social media. I made reservations for two a few days before and they were easy to secure on RESY. The seating was intimate - 13 seats. I saw they were preparing the appetizers for the next group of 17. The nigiri started off light and it got more and more luxurious and rich through the meal. I really enjoyed the marinated salmon roe, sea bream and yellowtail! It was also fun to watch the chefs meticulously create each nigiri. The only omakase I've had in the city that I genuinely thought was worth it. The omakase is $78 PP and is a 60 minute experience. They don't skimp out on the amount of fish per roll and my favorites were the otoro and the toast with foie gras truffle uni bite but honestly I enjoyed almost all the bites. The only thing I will say is the appetizer was super whatever and the last piece, the "dessert" was just tamago which I didn't care for. I think if they replaced the dessert with something else it would make the omakase feel more complete. My husband and I were also celebrating our anniversary and they were super sweet and surprised us with a little sushi tower! I've been to more expensive omakase places and I felt the quality here was better. Definitely give it a try! read more

Sanyuu West delivered one of the best omakase experiences I've had in NYC. We were running a little late, and the chef graciously accommodated us, setting the tone for a welcoming evening. Every course was beautifully presented and incredibly fresh, with delicate textures and vibrant flavors that highlighted the quality of each ingredient. From the rich toro to the perfectly seasoned rice, each bite felt thoughtfully crafted. Another honorable mention was the salmon foie gras. It was such a killer combo. So much flavor! One of my favorite omakase places and never a wrong choice. The price and the amount of pieces you get along with the quality can't be beat. The place is pretty small and cozy just one large counter with people sitting along the sides of it. Service was average didn't get to really interact with the chefs as much as I would like but overall really good read more
New favorite Omakase in town. The seating is 1hr but didnt feel rushed. 15 courses for the price of $78/pp is very decent. and they didnt cut the quality of the pieces. they have some really premium pieces like uni toro toast , toro with foie gras. all the fish pieces are pretty generous portion and very flavorful and balanced. read more
This is my rating after considering everything only because I am a person who does not like sushi. Now many of you may say why would I ever take a recommendation from someone who doesn't enjoy sashimi. Well because I am the person who can detect even the slightest fishiness and I will tell you straight away if the fish was good or not One thing that I have to complain on is that our chef was not it. He not only rushed to put pieces on our dishes but a lot of our pieces either fell over or nearly fell off our plates. My piece of ikura spilled over because of the way he placed it on our dish. Not only that but I have never found myself reaching over just to take a bite of my piece. All of us nearly dropped every single piece because of the layout. Now to the important part the omakase. I will tell you there are better places with better pieces for a better/ same price. The pieces here are simple and nothing to rave about, most of the time we didn't even know what we were eating because our chef mumbled and the omakase menu was not even in order. The fish was decent, nothing too fishy except the uni. I never liked uni but this didn't do it for me. I did really enjoy all the tuna pieces we had, but that's about it read more
Overall: 5/5 Food: 5/5 - We came for the dinner omakase and all the pieces were great! All the fish tasted very fresh and every piece was flavorful and had no fishy aftertaste. The visuals were also great. Value: 4/5 - Standard for omakase but we all thought the quality was pretty good! Service: 4/5 - The employees were nice and we got water refills pretty regularly. It did seem like they wanted to get us out kinda fast but the ambiance otherwise was nice. The chef also didn't really talk much or explain the pieces like I have seen in other omakase places. Overall, this place was very good but not sure if I would come back simply because there are many sushi options in the city! We also found out that they are sisters with shinn west which is an omakase place we went to before. The menu was almost identical which is also why I think my party was not as amazed with this omakase experience. read more

This is definitely an omakase place I will be back at! Great bang for your buck, we paid about $90 for a 15 course menu. We were left feeling quite full and each piece was surprisingly good! We weren't disappointed at all. The fish portions are also generous. The interior is clean and has a slightly upscale vibe to it but not pretentious. Service is fast, we were in and out in about 75 minutes. Overall if you are looking for a good quality omakase place that won't break your bank, I would recommend coming to Sanyuu West. read more

Finally got to try this popular omakase spot and I really enjoyed it! $75 for 15 pieces. My favorite was the uni with salmon belly and caviar. I celebrated my anniversary here and they were sweet enough to provide extra poke fish at the end. Do be warned though, the dishes come out fast. They're not necessarily rushing anyone to finish eating but they are trying to keep the 1hr reservation limit. I know this might deter some people but it didn't really affect my experience. read more
It was okaaaaaaaay. After having omakase at places like sushi blossom and Shiki it's hard to compare. This place is not your typical intimate dinning omakase experience. Chefs were efficient and quick. No chit chat, just straight to serving. You can feel the pressure of getting in and out. Def a spot to eat quickly and leave. Sushi pieces were good but inconsistent in sizes. If you sit on the right you get a chef that serves 6 customers. If you sit on the left, you get a different chef serving 7 customers. You can tell there were some inconsistencies between how big each sushi pieces were between chef #1 was serving vs chef #2. Usually I'm pretty full after a 15 course omakase but I was still hungry. A couple of stars but most were okay. Not the worst but also not the best omakase experience in the city. Would I come back? If I was in the area, maybe. Would I take the subway to come here specifically? Not really However, I did like that they had the menu near by so you can follow along and know which fish you were eating! read more

Dungeon crab - refreshing appetizer Hamachi with chive- my favorite so flavorful Seabream Tuna with chive and daikon radish Medium fatty tuna with crunchy garlic- delicious O-toro fatty tuna with caviar- yummy Botan Ebola sweet shrimp- good but very wasabi flavor Hotate scallop with lemon juice and truffle sauce- VERY wasabi flavor Salmon roe- meh, quite salty Amberjack fresh ginger and chives- yummy Uni- yummy like butter Salmon with foie gras- delicious Unagi- good and standard. Large piece of eel Wagyu- good Toro hand roll- great taste and ending to the meal! Staff was extremely friendly and we were full at the end! Was definitely a great experience here. perfect ambiance and menu for an intimate special occasion dinner! i've been to their other concepts so this was a new, special treat. it has more chatter (obviously depends on the other patrons) and is more relaxed compared to other omakase experiences. some highlights were the scallop with lime and truffle salt, shrimp with yuzu tobiko, and sea bream. my only criticism was that the otoro piece would have been better untorched. the service was great as expected, and they even gave us a special extra course for our anniversary :) highly recommend! read more

My first time experiencing Omaske and I must say I'm hooked! I was able to get a last minute reservation to Sayuu West and I wasn't disappointed! For $78/person you get 15 pieces of sushi! Every piece was amazing and the staff were nice and attentive. The chef table isn't big but perfect size for Omaske! I will definitely be back and would recommend for date night or date with friends! read more

Are they still byob?
Unfortunately, no. They now serve alcohol. We brought a bottle of sake with us and they were unable to let us open it.
Can they accommodate a gluten allergy for the omakase?
Yes! they have gluten free soy sauce upon request.
