Delicious handrolls :) A good decent find. It's nice to sit and see our sushi chefs make them at bar seatings but I think I would prefer the tables since the rolls seems to come out faster for them... for reference it took between 15-20 min each time for a single roll to come out. Service was friendly just a bit slow imo :) note if you said no wasabi when initially ordering, make sure to mention it again with the chef a few times. They are overwhelmed with customers so could be forgetful. 2/5 of my rolls had wasabi when I specifically am not a fan of it. They were not remade when I mentioned it to the chef, so I just left it on the side. Bummer, it did ruin the taste of the roll for me though so I couldn't properly enjoy it. Otherwise, ambiance was clean and nice and they def try to seat you as fast as they can but reservation recommended.
My friend recommended this place for us to eat at while I was visiting. It was such a fun experience. We each got 5 different temaki rolls. I tried the toro and scallion, spicy tuna, yellowtail and scallion, salmon serrano, and the spicy lobster rolls. Everything was amazing! The server was very nice and helped us while ordering and the chefs prepared the temaki rolls in front of you! The corn ribs were delicious as well and the churros were great, though didn't have a super mochi texture feel. We were seated at the bar seating where you could see the chefs making the temaki rolls. We had a reservation and it came in handy as it got pretty busy when we were there for dinner time! Overall, would recommend -- a great place to try a variety of foods!
Got the signature set. I liked 2/5 of the hand rolls lol. It's cute for a girls night chit chat but I wouldn't go there again. Food taste was mid. Worth checking out for the experience but not very memorable. The Japanese potato salad is fire tho!!
Small little joint in the West Village. I was excited to try this restaurant after all of the rave reviews and popular TikTok videos, but in the end it was all definitely overhyped. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made through their website. DRINKS - Strawberry Sting 4/5 - Matcharita 4/5 FOOD - Wasabi cucumber tataki: 5/5 Not sure how but this was one of my favorite items on the menu. It was so freshing and that hint if wasabi really set it off. - Furikake fries 2/5: Fries were semi soggy and very bland. TEMAKI *I went with the single selection because I didn't care for any of their sets. - Toro scallion 3/5 - Salmon serrano 2/5 - Spicy tuna 3/5 - Yellowtail scallion 3/5 - Uni 4/5: A little on the fishy side. As with most things in NY, be prepared to spend. Our bill costs about $200 plus for 2 people and even with sharing last handroll.
Great sushi spot. Cute decor. Would definitely recommend making a reservation because it's small and super popular. Even on week days. The tofu one was delicious. The Serrano salmon was my favorite. It's a bit expensive though. Also they have a B health rating which doesn't sit well with me for a sushi spot. Service was good.
Great food and ambiance, but service was lacking a lot. Right off the bat when we sat down, our server was a bit rude and condescending. After we ordered, one of my friends asked for a fork and knife since they had dental surgery recently and was met with a dismissive tone. We had to remind him 3 times for the fork and knife, and ended up asking another server before my friend finally got it. We also had to remind him for multiple individual orders (miso soup, green tea) that were forgotten. On to the good: the food! Everything we had was delicious! No misses. Loved the mushroom dip and all of the temaki. The wooden boards and seaweed boxes were very intuitive to use. I had been here several years ago, when they were serving each temaki seaweed individually plastic wrapped, so it was really nice to see this sustainable alternative! Overall would recommend for the food, but hopefully you get a better server than the one we had!
Nami Nori has been on my list of places I wanted to try since I first stumbled upon them on Instagram. We came in on a Tuesday afternoon for a late lunch and it was everything I hoped for! The inside is clean and bright - lots of light colors to expand the space. Our server was excellent, explaining the menu to us to help us choose and offering her suggestions for appetizers. We got both of her picks - the wasabi cucumber tataki was crisp and refreshing! The spicy tuna dip was also excellent - some heat, but not overpowering. The tuna was so fresh. We tried 9 hand rolls. The tuna poke was my favorite, but truthfully they were all delicious so I'm not sure you could go wrong with any of them. We finished our meal with the mochurros which are a cross between mochi and churros, served with a homemade lemon curd. The churros were fresh and delicious, light and airy. The lemon curd was delicious, and a perfect compliment. Overall, this was an incredible meal and I will be back next time I'm in NYC!
Really happy with takeout dinner from here the other night although the rolls had a biit too much filling for my taste. All the seafood and veggies tasted super fresh and the hand-rolls were packaged impeccably. Each one was hand-wrapped and the order included instructions on how to remove the rolls from the wrap. Potato salad was booomb. Caviar service was super affordable and delicious alongside the airy crisps. Nothing really stood out and I didn't finish my BYO set because the portions were large but we enjoyed everything!
Made a reservation for the bar with a group of 4 friends around 1pm. We were quickly seated, and the staff explained the menu and recommended some appetizers since it was our first time here. We all made our own 5 piece sets and shared a mushroom dip appetizer. Since we sat at the bar, the sets were presented to us one piece at a time at a steady pace. My favorite bites were the x.o. scallop and the toro scallion. I also had the yellow tail scallion, salmon serrano, and the tuna poke. All of them had a great balance of flavors. The fish was all fresh and melted in your mouth soft. The tanginess of the x.o. scallop and the spiciness of the salmon serrano help enhance the favor of the temaki without overtaking the main protein. I really enjoyed every bite, and found the full meal to be a light and satisfying lunch.
Stopped in for lunch and was able to get a spot at the sushi counter. By the time I ordered the restaurant had filled up! Very busy, and for good reason. I ordered the classic set of hand rolls. Each was made to order and spaced out. I loved them all, except for the California roll. I'm just not a fan of the crab, more of a personal preference. My favorite was the yellowtail scallion. Everything was really really delicious and what a welcoming atmosphere.
I had a good impression from about 4 years ago, and revisiting this time for the #makefoodnotwastenyc campaign but also glad to find that they have a full vegan set available! The vegan rolls were good (allegedly much better than the normal set) but I did think it's too pricey for what it is and not enough surprise element. The kitchen seemed to be understaffed and hectic. It took a very long time for us to get each piece. Unlikely to go back again.
My friends and I walked into Nami Nori and were so surprised to find that they could seat us immediately at the bar. Shortly after, there was a crazy line of people waiting. It got better because after ordering the Signature hand roll set and some wine, my friends and I were obsessing at how flavorful each hand roll was! And we also didn't think we would get full, but these 5 hand rolls and a few appetizers definitely did the trick!! The flavor profiles were also so different from one another, so it made the experience very interesting without negotiating quality. The restaurant looked fairly new, clean, and up to date. It was PACKED and lively with a variety of table seating, and seats at the bar. I'm from California but when I come back, please believe I'm going to Nami Nori!!!
A colleage had a jaw dropping reaction when he found out that I had not been to Nami Nori and after dining at this place I totally understand why . Very chic cute restaurant in the west village that serve open roll sushi at the bar .We had the mushroom dip with fresh truffles which was an exciting start to the diner. I ordered the vegan starter kit in wich the tofu chimichuri was my most favourite followed by the avacado and sweet potato .Each roll is served one at a time . For dessert I got the churros they were fluffy airy melt in the mouth. The flavour of the matcha cheesecake was " tooo buttery " for my liking. The service was excellant .Our server answered all of our questions and gave recommendations too. The help in the staff was very attentive too. I will be visiting this restaurant one too many times I am certain.
What else can I say about this place? It is absolutely phenomenal. I mean, when I think about my Yelp reviews and my food reviews, I think I'm getting to a point where--no, I'm not saying I'm Michelin. No, I'm not saying I'm James Beard. But I damn sure am saying I'm Kendal Shell, and I deserve to put some praise on some of these restaurants. My word holds some damn weight in this food community. Well... at least with my homies, family and friends. But anyways, with that being said, I think it's officially time to introduce the Ken Certified List. And to make the Ken Certified List, you've got to earn a Ken Certified Star. We're keeping the star system. Michelin already did the hard work there--no sense in reinventing the wheel. Business majors, remember that: you don't always have to reinvent the wheel. Take that lesson for free. Now, back to the food. This place gets a Ken Certified Star. No debate. Hands down--pun absolutely intended--the best hand rolls I've ever had. I am writing this review from an Uber leaving the restaurant. I have literally been gone for less than four minutes and I'm already thinking about when I can go back. That's how good it was. Everything tasted unbelievably fresh. The rice was right. The textures were right. The temperatures were right. The balance of every roll was right. I would've thought I was in Tokyo. Now, pardon my ignorance because I don't even know if Tokyo is known specifically for hand rolls like this, but you get what the hell I'm saying. It tasted THAT fresh. And I'm honestly a little confused because I didn't even know you could make a hand roll taste this good. My flight went like this: Spicy Crab Dynamite First roll out of the gate, and immediately I knew we had a problem. The creamy crab mixture was perfectly spicy, perfectly seasoned and incredibly fresh. Rich without being heavy, with just enough heat to wake everything up without overpowering the crab. My immediate thought was: How the hell do we go up from here? There's no way the next one is better. Narrator: The next one was better. Scallop WHEW. Question answered quickly. Yes. Apparently, it does continue to get better. From a texture standpoint, this is damn near the definition of an A1 hand roll. The scallop was delicate, buttery and ridiculously fresh, and everything surrounding it complemented it instead of competing with it. Pound for pound, this might be one of the best hand rolls on Earth. And yes, I understand how ridiculous that statement is. I said what I said. Bravo. Lobster This was the one I had been waiting on. The lobster roll came out slightly warmer than the others, which caught me off guard for about half a second--and then I took a bite. Impeccable. The lobster still tasted sweet and fresh, and the warmth actually gave the roll a completely different personality from the first two. After hyping this one up in my head before it ever touched the table, somehow it still didn't disappoint. That's hard to do. Crispy Fish And finally, the closer. The crispy fish hand roll. Let me explain this one in terms everybody can understand: This was better than any crispy fish taco I've ever had. And I have eaten a LOT of great fish tacos. You essentially have a lot of the same flavor ideas--crispy fish, fresh greens, creamy sauce--but putting them into this perfectly constructed hand roll completely changed the experience. The crunch of the fish against the soft rice and crisp nori was already enough. Then the wasabi mayo came through with that little hit of heat, while the lettuce added freshness and crunch. Simple ingredients. Perfect execution. That might actually be the biggest compliment I can give this restaurant. Nothing felt like it was trying too hard. There weren't 47 ingredients fighting for attention. It was just incredibly fresh seafood, thoughtful combinations, great textures and damn near flawless execution. And that's when food gets special. This place has moved very swiftly into the conversation for my favorite restaurant in New York City. Honestly, it might already be there. Four hand rolls. Not one miss. I walked in wanting dinner and walked out questioning why I don't live closer to the Pacific Ocean. This restaurant has me considering moving to Asia to change my life. KEN CERTIFIED has been awarded to Nami Nori. And considering I invented the award about four minutes ago, I can confidently tell you this is one of the highest honors in food. read more

I got the spicy set from Nami Nori for takeout. The food itself was really good and I liked getting to try the different spicy hand rolls. The flavors were all really nice and everything tasted fresh. The presentation for takeout was also really cute and everything was packed up nicely. My biggest issue was definitely the price vs. the portion. The set was $46 for five hand rolls and I honestly didn't find it very filling for what I paid. I know this is more of a higher end sushi spot, but I still expected to feel like I got more food for that price. I'd order from here again if I was really craving it, but I don't think the value is there for me. read more

Fresh, creative, and truly unique sushi. The hand rolls were perfectly crisp with high-quality fish and thoughtful flavor combinations you don't find everywhere. Nami Nori is AMAZING. It's the perfect place to take your friends or family out for a nice dinner. Highly recommend their pick 5 Temaki option so you can try a little bit of everything. Their crab & salmon temakis were my absolute favorites. Their seafood quality is top notch and everything is perfectly seasoned. Their spicy tuna dip with rice chips was incredibly addicting as well. The service was lovely too! They are mindful and friendly. Overall, highly recommend Nami Nori to anyone. read more

Had a really nice lunch here! I didn't have a reservation but it was a wednesday afternoon post blizzard and they had room for me at the bar. I was dining alone so I couldn't get any appetizers but they sounded amazing. I opted to pick my own 5 temaki, which I would recommend over their starter sets. It's pricier, but there are just some stand outs that economically they couldn't have in the discounted sets. I'm spoiled with amazing seafood living in Maine, and the quality was totally up to par. Completely disagree with any review that mentions subpar quality. So my chosen set included: tuna avocado, coconut shrimp, spicy lobster, sweet potato, and toro scallion. My favorites were the toro and scallion, and the fish was just perfect. It's a classic combo and executed so well. It was the last thing they served to me, which I preferred. Didn't even get a picture, I was so pumped to have it. #2 was the coconut shrimp, it was amazing. I was so thankful for it because being gluten free I never get to have it. Or maybe #2 was the sweet potato tempura, another thing I can never order. It was really good, all I can say. If given the opportunity I think I could clear like 10 of them. The others were super fresh and delicious as well. The spicy lobster had crunchy potato pieces on top that really made it. Also had a strawberry sting, which was, again, so yummy. I can't wait to come back. The woman making the sushi was really nice. My server was nice too, it's a pretty hands off wait experience. read more

I had a great experience at Nami Nori a few days ago. I went on the weekend and highly recommend booking a reservation. Even for a weekend lunch, the restaurant was super packed. My friend and I ordered a variety of hand rolls with the stand outs being the Serrano salmon and the scallop hand rolls. Both of the rolls were packed with flavor and super flavorful. What kept me from giving Nami Nori 5 stars was a few things: 1. Service can be spotty at times. I totally get that the restaurant was packed but given that it is a smaller restaurant, I expected better service particularly at this price point. Who knows? Maybe this was just a one off. 2. Menu items weren't available. I loved my friend's Yuzu drink but found out that they were sold out of it. This was a bummer particularly since the restaurant recently opened when I arrived. 3. I have had better hand rolls at other NYC restaurants. These hand rolls weren't the best that I have had. I felt that the biggest challenge was that some of the hand rolls were too creative and took the flavor away from the fish. Overall, I still had a great experience at Nami Nori and would come back with friends. It just didn't cross my bar for a 5 star sushi spot. Maybe next time it'll be better. read more
Really delicious and creative temaki rolls. I especially enjoyed the crunchy rolls, which have delicate bits of puffed rice balls stuck to the nori. The spicy crab dynamite was very hot; just out of the broiler. Even the simple red crab California tasted very fresh and had a generous pile of snow crab on top. The Maitake truffle was the most unusual - almost meaty strips of mushroom with truffles. All the ones we tried were delicious and worth ordering again. We also enjoyed the seared shishito peppers with miso sauce, and the fresh crunchy pickled cucumber appetizers. It was fun to sit at the counter and watch the chefs working on your rolls. They timed it perfectly so everyone got a roll at the same time; and the seaweed was toasted nice and crunchy. We will definitely return to try more items on the menu! read more

This was such an amazing restaurant and experience. I am vegetarian and for years I feel like there hasn't been a good Temaki spot that has yummy vegetarian options. When I saw the menu at Nami Nori I was so happy. Ambiance: It's such a gorgeous restaurant with a boho chic vibe. Great spot for dates or even small groups. We sat at the counter and I'm so happy we did that because it was a lot of fun watching the chefs make the temaki. Food: We got the furikake fries and crispy rice chips with the mushroom drip from the kitchen. The fries were okay. The mushroom dip was amazing! It was so unique and I loved the mix of flavors. The crispy rice chips perfectly complemented the dip. Temaki - we got the vegan set which comes with avocado "toast", eggplant, tofu chimichurri, sweet potato tempura, and cucumber black sesame. We also added on the mitake truffle and the summer special spicy tomato temaki. Every single one was delicious. I loved the crunchy texture on the avocado toast and wish we could have added that to some of our other temaki. My person favorite was the tofu chimichurri and the spicy tomato. I loved the kick in the spicy tomato. I highly recommend all of the vegan temakis. Service: Service was excellent. Everyone there was so kind and patient and answered all of our questions and we were both new to the concept. They offered really good suggestions and feedback. Everyone was quick to refill our water and wine glasses. Price: It's fairly reasonably priced for the experience, quality of food, portion size, and uniqueness. Note: They require/strongly prefer you order at least 5 Temaki's per person. Thankfully they were willing to adjust on this as I don't eat as much as my husband and we also wanted to try some of the appetizers. I do wish that we could order any amount when ordering a la carte. I highly recommend this spot and hope to come back soon. read more
I've never really been a big sushi guy, but my girlfriend really wanted to try this place out. We sat at the counter and they have you pick out 5 sushi hand rolls each. Turns out, they're all very very good. I think my favorite was the coconut shrimp. The one that surprised me the most, however, was the salmon Serrano. It had a lot of kick and was really tasty. I think my least favorite of the group was the XO Scallop, but it was still tasty. If sushi is your thing, Nami Nori is a fun experience with a lot of different flavors and combinations to try. read more

The coconut shrimp hand roll was amazing! If I could have had just multiple of those I would have, but unfortunately for me it came towards the end of my hand roll sequence so I was too full by that point. I also tried the crab and lobster hand rolls. They were okay, but paled in my opinion to the shrimp roll. Service was amazing, they were very attentive to when we were done with the current roll. Nami Nori is a place that specializes in hand roll sushi. I decided to try their signature set. Their signature set composes of 5 roll: tuna, scallop, coconut shrimp, salmon, and cucumber. To be honest for being their signature set, I was disappointed with this one. I felt like a lot of the toppings overpowered the protein, and the cucumber is kind of a throwaway roll. I felt it was especially true for the salmon. The salmon roll is usually my favorite sushi, but I felt like there was too much ginger. A great handroll spot in West Village! The star of the show were actually the appetizers though, specifically the mushroom dip. I wasn't sure what I was expecting but it was delicious! Delicious place for sushi, first time at this location but I have previously tried the Brooklyn location. I love a temaki hand roll and the flexibility of ordering as much or as little as you're hungry for. This location is super cute, there's some little tables outside for patio seating and a few tables inside as well as counter seating. We started with the Tempura Misto of calamari, shrimp, onion, and zucchini with a yuzu aioli and Calabrian chili. Their tempura is very good, I like the variety and it doesn't feel like the fry is too overly heavy. Of the five hand rolls I ordered, the most exciting or new flavor combos I found included the Fried Oyster Temaki with green garlic hollandaise and ume pickled onion, the Aka Ebi with the yuzu kosho soy, and the Spicy Lobster with butter poached tobiko, shiso, and crispy potato. Service is always efficient, friendly, the rolls come out in a timely manner so it's a great place to grab a quick lunch or dinner if you're on a time crunch. I also was able to make a reservation in advance, which made it extra easy. It's definitely a restaurant I will continue to keep in my rotation because I always have such a positive and delicious experience. read more
Solo dined here and honestly, Nami Nori is one of my all-time favorite restaurants! I always make time to visit whenever I'm in NYC. It's the perfect spot for solo dining -- super welcoming vibe and easygoing atmosphere. Nami Nori had such fresh hand rolls! We started with one of their seasonal fall menu items and had the sweet potato and it was great. It was made with a really interested sauce that had a hint of wasabi in it. I had the signature set which came with 5 hand rolls and each piece was so fresh. My favorite was the coconut shrimp, but I also loved the lemon zest on the xo scallop. Vibes of this place was nice and they essentially make good use of the space and have two wide sushi bars with one other place for group seating. Service was also really kind here! read more
I've never been to a strictly hand roll bar but I throughly enjoyed this experience! Everything was great! The chef was amazing and so kind and educational! The rolls were so good! Again something I haven't experienced before is creativity with hand rolls and Nami Nori executed beautifully! My ONLY drawback with this place is it's small and packed. It didn't ruin the experience by any means but keep that in mind. If you like your space then for sure reserve a table instead of being seated at the sushi counter! read more

Wanted to try this since a lot of our friends have been and were posting about it. It is definitely very aesthetic inside. We were able to sit at the bar and see them make the rolls in front of us which was nice as part of the experience. The ingredients were also fresh and they put an interesting twist on traditional hand rolls to make them have their own unique spin to it. The only downside is that the price is on the higher end for the amount you get. However overall really good! read more

We were able to secure a reservation (for a deposit) for a Tuesday at 5pm. It was their last available reservation for that day so I suppose we got lucky! The restaurant specializes in hand rolls that cost anywhere from $7-15 each. However, if you get one of their pre-selected sets (5 rolls), each roll comes out cheaper. But do keep in mind that you probably won't enjoy EVERY roll in the mix, but hopefully there will be some that are especially to your liking. I got the cheapest set which came with an assortment of Tina, salmon, and a California roll. I liked maybe 3/5 rolls, with the worst being the California roll. If I were to come again, I'd suggest ordering 4 rolls that you know you will enjoy rather than trying to save money with 5 rolls that are only suboptimal. The interior was cute and zen, bathroom was gorgeous. Honestly, I expected the food to taste better considering this is a Michelin restaurant. Not sure if I would recommend to tourists visiting the city, but a good experience overall. Ooh our favorite dish was actually the tempura appetizer! Would highly recommend read more
Came here for lunch one Saturday and I loved it! The interior of the restaurant was bright, clean, and busy. And since the day that I came on was sunny, they opened up their patio and it was a great vibe to dine at for brunch. Service here was pretty quick and friendly. I got their spicy tuna dip and their signature temaki set. Everything was delicious. I loved their spicy tuna dip and it came with so much tuna (they had to give us more crackers to finish it). Each of the pieces in the temaki set was also delicious, and a favorite was the XO scallop and the cucumber black sesame (surprisingly). I would love to come back here some time and try their al carte menu! read more
