Came on a Friday lunchtime and there was no wait. Came for a quick lunch break. Solid sushi and tastes great for the price. Ordered the lunch special two rolls for $9.95 plus salad/miso soup, except we didn't receive the miso soup. The rolls were made to order so the sweet potato roll was fresh and crispy. It did take us 15 mins to be served which was a little inconvenient with our time crunch but I'm glad the sushi was made fresh.

Very interesting place that reminds me of a movie. Very much a green hole in the wall with an antiquated interior that cuts to the chase. Staff is attentive and food is made to order. Wait time for takeaway is less than 10 minutes. Rainbow roll was good. Definitely not too tier but definitely satisfied the craving. Fish tasted good and the portion was perfect. The wasabi was greener than the interior walls :). If I was passing by and craving cheap sushi. I would come here again

I was looking for low quality eats and so I thought about sushi. I was about to get whole food sushi which I enjoyed but I stumbled upon this place. They had a lunch deal for 9 bucks for 2 rollls. I chose spicy tuna and spicy salmon. This was a great deal. It was tasty and fast. No complaints

Here's the thing about Sushi 21. It doesn't try to be anything other than exactly what it is: a bare-bones, regular, reasonably priced sushi place. It's not fancy. It's not this week's trendiest spot, and it's not Nobu. Tonight, I was catching a movie with a friend, and he wanted to get a quick, inexpensive bite on our way. This did the trike and hit the spot. And to be honest, I've been on a Tekka Don (raw tuna over a bed of rice) for a few months. Now, I've paid $30 for this, and ordered from some of the best. And, I gotta say, the Tekka Don here for under $10, at first had me concerned. But it was fresh, and in some ways, better than ones I've paid a lot for. It was a nice dinner. No complaints.

I have been coming here for a few years now. I have seen the same people working here and they have always been wonderful! I'm surprised to see negative reviews! The service, and food is great! I mean, it's not Sushi Nakazawa with 4 $$$$. But come on. Besides the fact, I have always felt so comfortable in this place. Whenever I am craving some delicious affordable sushi, I always come to Sushi 21. The prices are great and I've never had a bad tasting meal. The sushi is exceptionally clean and flavorful. I usually order the sashimi and I am never disappointed. Their rice is always soft, fresh, and full of flavor. Plus, this little hidden nook is what this city is all about. I will forever continue to come back to this place!

Finished a Peloton session and decided to ruin it with sushi. They had a really inexpensive 3 roll lunch special that pigged out on. Surprisingly Good sushi and pretty rare to see sushi at that cost in Chelsea. Nonetheless no regards.

A great neighborhood takeout/delivery place. Sushi is always fresh and timely. The cook has been there for years and is very accomodating.

Sometimes cheap sushi is not worth it. Was running to the bathroom and the taste wasn't beyond either.

The atmosphere here was a bit more lively and crowded compared to the more relaxed vibe of the UWS spot. I enjoyed my meal even more this time around. I started with the beet salad, which was delicious and offered great value given the generous portion size. it featured sliced beets, arugula, goat cheese, and walnuts. I also had my eye on the hijiki soybean salad--which is a bit smaller and reportedly homemade--so I may try that next time, along with the warm mushroom salad which looked very tasty. The edamame was standard but served as a nice starter. For my main rolls, I chose the salmon avocado and the yellowtail scallion. Both were very fresh and definitely worth ordering again. The salmon avocado roll had a nice touch of sesame seeds on the rice, while the yellowtail scallion was prepared with the seaweed on the outside. My boyfriend's sushi entree looked excellent, so I am considering that or the sushi-sashimi combo for my next visit. The entrees provide a substantial amount of food, and I especially appreciate that they allow you to choose which roll comes with your meal.

The slices aren't thin, delicate, and melt-in-your-mouth as one usually gets in a sit down; they are extra thick, and I had to really bite down on some of the pieces. The rice was nicely seasoned and was cooked well + portions are also big to match those thiccccc salmon slices. To be honest, I was getting a little nauseated after 5 pieces, haha~ They were definitely delicious but I'd probably just eat 3 or 4 pieces and share with a friend! It was easy to text the number on the website and coordinate a pickup time, and the staff was friendly when I arrived. The restaurant is a little hard to find as the windows are blinded and the sign is a piece of paper on the door.

The katsu was very, very moist on the inside, with a crispy batter that was so light it was almost flavorless. I honestly couldn't really tell the difference between the tenderloin and pork loin. Overall the dish had a very light flavor and I added quite a bit of sauce and wasabi. Some of the less memorable dishes were the eggplant agebitashi and truffle rice. The eggplant agebitashi tasted like a cross between an eggplant parm and a bolognese. The truffle rice had a very strong truffle flavor that ended up overpowering everything else in the dish. I thought the slices of raw button mushrooms were a little strange. I really enjoyed the sabazushi. The pieces of mackerel were thick and carried a lot of that characteristic mackerel oily flavor, but the oiliness was cut by enough vinegar to balance everything out. The niku udon was also a surprise hit. The noodles were wide, flat, super slurpy, and the broth carried a deep umami flavor. Overall, I had a pretty solid experience here.

We were seated at the bar to get the full experience of the omaskase as that's what we were going to order that night. It was fairly busy that night and fairly small inside. The tables sit behind the sushi bar and are fairly close to it. We did the Sushiro Omakase which comes with a few appetizers to start with, some nigiri, a few handrolls, and dessert to finish it off. They also have a drink (alcohol and non-alcohol selection) to choose from. The fish quality for the most part was very good. My favorites were the chu toro, wagyu, and uni. The cod was pretty exceptional as well. As each piece came out the chef explained which each nigiri or handroll was made out of it or the type of fish. At times it was pretty hard to hear him since the chef was more soft spoken. There is another waiter that checks in on you and offers refills. We were pretty lucky that the chef gave us another handroll on the house. You can also order a la carte one your are done with the Omakase. Overall a great handroll and omakase. You can sit down and really take your time to enjoy the fish or be in and out. It's not an establishment that forces either. We never felt that rushed to leave once we were done. There are also some asian candies you can grab on the way out as well!
