I don't generally get sushi in Chinatown but I just happen to be in the area late (like just before 10pm) or shall I say late for dinner in post pandemic NYC and I was in need of getting some sushi to go. I've ordered a sushi platter it to go on two separate occasions. The first time was fairly standard for the price. A good value I would say. The second time I don't know if it was the timing or if I made friends in the establishment I was unaware but it was a great value. The cuts of fish were very sizeable and generous and made me wonder if there was a mistake in my order with how much sushi I received. The service was fairly quick. I called in my order and my food was ready was for pick up in about 15 minutes. I would say the place doesn't really have much in the way of ambiance but that's perfect for a to go sushi place if you think about as there can be more focus towards the actual product. Door rang exactly one minute after the predicted time. We ordered the Maki Boy Combo C-tuna, salmon, California Rolls for $15.95, Maki Boy Combo D-spicy kani, yellowtail jalapeno, salmon avocado for $17.95, 8 Piece Sashimi Appetizer ($11.95) and the Yellowtail Scallion Roll ($5.50). The Maki Boy Combos come with either a miso soup or salad ... we got one of each. The wasabi seems to have green food coloring added to it and the rolls in the Maki Boy Combo D were messily made (barely any rice on one side of the rolls). We were in Chinatown and really haven't had sushi since the outbreak. We decided to try this place out of spur. Got the party tray A platter which came with 6 rolls for $35. I think one of them was a California roll while the rest were eel with cucumber, spicy salmon, smoke salmon with creme cheese, salmon with avocado and lastly tempura. They were all pretty decent and was just average and wish the selections were more diverse than the regular well known rolls. Good thing is they do taste pretty fresh and presentation was great, but for today, I would give them a solid 3 stars. I believe there is a Yelp coupon offer which I failed to use. read more

Not one fly, not two flies, but THREE flies in our miso soup!!! I wish I was joking. Unfortunately, I'm not. We got the lunch special bento box ($14.95 + tax) that comes with shrimp and veggie tempura, rice, a California roll, shumai and miso soup. Typically you get your soup or salad first. Our waiter (the only good about this restaurant) must have forgotten. The presentation of the plate was messy from the get go, the portion was small, and nothing tasted fresh... We asked our waiter for the miso soup and it must have been sitting there in the back with all those flies swarming around it, when 3 of them decided to go for a swim. We went up to the guy to discreetly tell him, so he could fix whatever is going on back there. He apologized yet didn't discount our meal at all so we paid full price for a fly filled soup meal. Pictures are attached. Sigh. I don't know how the sanitation department gave them an A rating. I almost forgot, the place is cramped and uncomfortable. Ordered take-out of the Chirashi Lunch Special which is supposed to be 12 pieces of assorted sashimi over sushi rice. What I got was 10 pieces of assorted sashimi, 2 imitation crab sticks, 2 pieces of tamago (it even looks like they took one piece and just sliced it diagonally) and no shrimp. I didn't notice the shrimp was a thing until I looked over the pics from other folks. The fish tasted extra fishy, the tamago was rubbery and the rice tasted almost like normal white rice with rice seasoning sprinkled on top. Not worth it at all. read more

3.5 Stars I had a hankering for a chirashi bowl last Saturday night, and after calling another restaurant that required a 45 minute wait for takeout, I decided to give Bayard Sushi a try. The girl on the phone was pleasant and spoke very clearly. To my surprise, she told me the chirashi bowl would be ready in just 5 minutes. When I arrived at the restaurant, the food was ready and all the restaurant staff were very friendly. The restaurant is small and seems like they do a lot of takeout, but there are several tables that can seat smaller parties. The chirashi bowl was $24.99 including tax, which I thought was reasonable. It came with a miso soup as well. The quality of fish was decent; everything tasted fresh and I would say it's on par with other takeout sushi I've had. However, I was disappointed with the rice; it wasn't seasoned like sushi rice usually is. For the fast pickup time, ease of ordering, and overall decent and fairly priced takeout meal, I would give this place a 3.5. Not the best I've had, but I would order from here again if I wanted sushi in pinch. read more

I have a lot of qualms about this place. The first time I ordered, they gave me someone else's order and that was already annoying to deal with. Then, my actual order was missing a roll in which they offered to redeem in my next order. I decided to order here again and explained my situation with the free redeemable roll. The person on the phone was rude and after much difficulty finally was able to "redeem" my free roll. I pick up the food and I noticed they didn't discount me for the free roll... even after confirmation on the phone call. Luckily another person understood the situation and was able to fix it. Finally to the food... very mediocre or actually below that. My friends ordered Kani salad and they were completely dry with no type of sauce or dressing. I specifically requested no cucumbers in my shrimp tempura and to my horror, I bit into cucumbers. It even said "no cucumbers" on the receipt... I don't understand how one establishment can mess up on so many things in one order. I called them and they offered another free roll in which I denied because honestly, the food is not worth it at all. I requested a refund and they said to give them the roll back... uh it's okay I'll just take the L. It's not the best take-out sushi and it won't rock your world. 3 maki roll lunch special is $13.95 which seems to be on par with the pricing of other sushi places in the area. The rolls are pretty tiny, there's very little rice in it possibly to make the filling look bigger. The salmon avocado wasn't the freshest and the chunks of salmon was really inconsistent. Some were quite chewy. Some were too small for the roll, tiny bits and pieces. Most of the rolls looked okay on top but that's cause they pushed all the filling on top and there's nothing left on the bottom. The spicy salmon roll and shrimp avocado roll were equally cheap and mediocre. They are also a little stingy with the wasabi - there's not remotely enough wasabi to change the taste let along the color of the soy sauce. I ordered for pickup through yelp/grubhub. I've had bad experiences with restaurants not getting my order so I always call in advance. And lo and behold, the restaurant only found my order after I called. I wouldn't say it's the restaurant's fault since this seems to happen with a lot of the delivery websites. There should just be a better system overall. Would I order from them again? Probably not. I don't know why anyone would risk eating sketchy sushi rolls like this. I just wanted to grab a quick snack and figured this would be a great quick & light bite. boy was I WRONG. The Tuna that they are using is borderline rotten. Rice is all mushy, but I wasn't expecting good rice or seaweed. Just the average better than supermarket sushi would have been fine. I only ended up eating half before sending it to the garbage. I think it would have made me SICK, so I feel lucky. I still got a bad stomach with the little I ate.
