A takeout classic! You can't beat the 3 roll special. Never disappoints! Some of my go-tos are salmon avocado, spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura

First time I've eaten in the restaurant after ordering delivery for years. Larger portions than delivery and we found out we could customize the chirashi, which is cool. Lovely miso. Staff were fab!

The vibes here are really great - there's a lot of cool art and posters hanging from the walls. It's a bit expensive compared to some other sushi places I've eaten at, and the food is fine.

Solid spot for sushi rolls! We got 2 orders of the Any 3 Rolls and got to try the Spicy Salmon, Spicy Tuna, Yellowtail, Spicy Yellowtail, Salmon Avocado, and Eel Cucumber. Our favorites were the Yellowtail and Salmon Avocado. Very fresh fish and fast service! The only reason why I knocked off a star was I felt they could've done without the mixed in tempura crunch flakes in the Spicy rolls. But besides that, really good and I'd come back and try more (esp the specialty rolls!!)

Good spot for lunch. Food came out quick. Check was quick too. Will come back. Wish they did both soup and salad instead of either/or

I ordered takeout from Nara Sushi tonight for dinner and it was absolutely delicious! Definitely some of the best takeout sushi I've had in the city! The miso soup was great, and the three roll combo was so filling and great bang for your buck! I got a spicy tuna roll, a spicy crab roll, and a yellowtail jalapeño roll which were all so fresh! I love how little rice there was! I also got a seaweed salad but couldn't finish it as I was so full. This might be my new go-to for takeout sushi!

    Bad sushi

Just picked up my order. I ordered a tuna roll where Clearly it does not look fresh - I called the restaurant to where I was placed on hold 2x to hold while they were taking other orders & was not given the time of day, & was told it's fresh and it's ok. I was not given any options to pick up a new roll or refund for the one roll or even a single apology. I will no longer ever order from Nara after the horrible customer service and lack of respect for a customer. Would definitely not recommend this place & say to check out other sushi restaurants in the neighborhood.

Not bad at all, but this is very much a hole-in-the-wall neighborhood sushi spot that features a ton of signature rolls. Nothing fancy but I liked I could just walk in wearing leggings and basically a sweater that resembled a hotel robe. I went with the eel avocado roll and the Osaka roll with jalapeño, tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. The latter was a challenge in terms of eating it gracefully - do I unhinge my jaw and stuff the whole thing into my gob in one bite, or do I bite it in half and risk spilling everything? This may be classic overthinking. Anyway, everything tasted fresh and delicious, though a bit heavy-handed on the sauce. Service was friendly and came by often to check how we were doing/refill waters. I usually steer clear of raw fish on work trips but I'm happy to report that Nara didn't do me dirty the next day.

Quality fish. My favorite sushi spot in the area.. also just one of my favorite places to eat in this area period. Their non sushi choices are also tasty . Good lunch specials. I have also ordered the sushi for 2 and it was soooooo filling but worth! $68 I think? I also always take note of the taste of sushi restaurants miso soup and salad - I like theirs. The ambiance is so cute. The walls are decorated with many illustrations reminiscent of my childhood, like the characters from the Studio Ghilbi. They are always busy when I come but I have always has prompt service dining here. I haven't had to wait for a seat when I've gone with my partner. I recommend coming with no more than 4 people, it's a small seating area. Remember to use your check in reward - free edamame!

Me and my friends just come back from college for thanksgiving and wanted to go to the city and get some food. We decided that we were all craving sushi so we found this place called Nara Sushi. When I tell you this was the best decision we could have made. Walking in, it was small, but the decor was so cute and the lighting was great not too harsh on the eyes. The menu had so many options and would love to go back for the lunch deal because it seemed like a great offer! Service was quick and they were really kind always looking to refill our waters and asking how the food was. The FOOD, let me tell you about the food! It was probably the best sushi I ever ate. I ended choosing the Volcano role which was absolutely delicious and would go back just for that. My friends got other rolls that I tried and those were also really good but the Volcano Roll really was the best of the night. The pricing for my roll was $16.00 which was a bit pricy but so worth it! I really recommend going truly was great food and experience!

Hello my friends - I'm here to tell you all about my favorite sushi spot in NYC. I'm keenly aware of how many other choices we have in the city and how many michelin caliber locations are scattered throughout Manhattan. I don't care. I will frequent Nara Sushi for as long as they choose to grace the Financial District. Today was my 12th visit and it was as good as every time before it! Tucked away near the tip of the island, this humble sushi gem houses some of the highest quality fish that I've had in the area. The fish to rice ratio in each piece of maki is AT LEAST 2:1 (see photos) and the Special Rolls are total bangers! They'll even make custom rolls by request. Today's order featured my favorites (I was hungry and ordered half the entire menu) and I will explain to you in great detail how delectable these little morsels of seafood paradise tasted! Maki - 2x Alaska Rolls (salmon/avocado/cucumber) are my go-to. Crisp cucumber and delicious fattiness from the salmon. I also went with yellowtail/jalapeño and yellowtail/scallion. Leaner rolls with lots of crisp freshness from the greens. I finished with a custom eel/mango roll for some sweetness Nigiri - The quality of the ingredients shine here. I got 2x Uni Nigiri which was delivered that day!! As good as any 3 star michelin - I swear to god. Also had the Sweet Shrimp Nigiri and the squid, octopus, tuna, salmon and scallop. Each one was so so tasty. The scallop was particularly good. No fishiness in anything whatsoever. The rice tasted a little sweeter today Special Rolls Dragon Roll - All Time Favorite combination of avocado and eel smothered in eel sauce. Just a sweet, rich and decadent roll with generous portions and tasty eel Ninja Roll - Shrimp tempura wrapped in Eel and avocado. Basically the Dragon Roll stepped up a notch. Its a hearty roll for sure but adds extra texture and fattiness. Can't get enough of this one Shohoku Roll - Spicy Tuna with textured crunch plus avocado and fresh tuna on top. I prefer this combo vs just plain tuna or spicy tuna on its own in the maki. The restaurant is small, maybe 8 tables but it has a very homey/cozy atmosphere and the walls are decorated with all these great japanese cultural images/cartoons/manga that gave me flashbacks to my own childhood. Even the bathroom has a ton of nice artwork. Keep doing your thing Nara! You guys are crushing it ^^ - Loyal Customer

The udon is solid but I was a bit surprised that the udon is actually flat rather than round. It wasn't as chewy as I like but the texture was pretty good. I enjoyed dipping the noodles in the sesame sauce but I do think it needed something else, maybe a shoyu based sauce as well. The portion was huge I could barely finish it. My check also came with a frozen grape which I thought was a cute touch and a nice sweet treat after the meal! Such a great easy casual spot for noodles, especially if you're solo dining.

You can order a little and keep adding depending on how big or small each dish is. We came right at 5 pm when they opened. Their location is a little hidden, it's on the second floor above Soba Noodle Azuma on 55th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues, closer to 8th. You have to go up a stairwell on the side. Getting to the food, their focus is on meat, seafood and vegetable skewers though they also have a variety of appetizers, rice bowls and noodles, and dessert. The meats and veggies are grilled over charcoal while basted with "tare", a house-made sauce that adds a level of umami to the caramelized grill flavors. Recently I got a handful of skewers for takeout, including: - Ebi (shrimp) $8 x 2: the shrimp were cooked just right, tender and juicy, yum! - Hotate Eringi (scallop and oyster mushrooms) $8 x 2: the textures of the oyster mushrooms and scallop pieces complemented each other, and were kinda similar. Another tasty offering. - Negi pon (pork belly with scallions) $7: I'm not a huge fan of pork belly in general, though they grilled it well here and chopped scallions added a little spicy tickle. While not the cheapest for skewers that you can find, (and inflation hasn't helped,) their flavors are authentic and their quality and consistency is key here. I'm glad it's still here since there seems to be fewer and fewer good yakitori spots in Manhattan these days. They used to have another location in the city though I believe this closed pre-pandemic, however from their website they now have another location in Boston. This was also the sister restaurant to Ramen Totto which had four locations at one point though all have shuttered as well. Hope this location stays around for a long time!

Arguably some of the best pork, it's great to have the option if you're looking to heighten the experience. I love their pork katsu and go nuts over the chicken katsu curry. It came with cabbage (with a sesame ginger type dressing), daikon radish (with some type of sauce on top), and the standard sauce for the tonkatsu, along with some crushed sesame seed and hot mustard. I'd have to say...the tonkatsu was quite good....not quite as sublime as my favorite tonkatsu place in Tokyo...but still, very, very good. The dish also came with a bowl of miso soup (good, and not overly salty) and a bowl of white rice, which I considered the most disappointing part of the meal. The rice seemed a bit dried out...not moist.... All in all, an excellent meal. I'd definitely come back.
